Nesta did not even accept Cassian's gift, and Cassian threw it away showing the tension and angst in their relationship.

On the other hand, Elain and Aelin BOTH accepted the gift (ring and necklace) and after certain things happening RETURNED IT. Rejecting the men, See the difference? (tsk tsk never beating the lack of reading comprehension allegations, are you?)

Does this singular event show how badly e/riel has sunk? No, it is the this and many other scenes that cement it.

But the fact that Maas has previously used "returning" pieces of jewelry to show that this couple isn't endgame just shows one of MANY parallels to e/riel not being endgame and gwynriel/elucien being endgame.

And my little post must've reminded you how doomed your ship is don't worry but showing this level of insecurity is cringy so pls do yourself a favor and don't.

This gem was left in a comment section on a post I was interacting with. I think it nails down Azriel’s character 100%. It’s just wild to ask “If Azriel only wants a mate, then why is he going after Elain when she already has a mate?” as if digging a little deeper into his character won’t give you the obvious answer.

“His belief that Elain is the key to replicating his brothers' happiness stems from his childhood trauma. The severe abandonment and brutal abuse he suffered has haunted him his entire existence. He's watching his brothers build lives with their mates and his loneliness is crippling. He says he's just as evil/bad as the Asteri. He probably hates torturing people but will do whatever to serve his court in order to be useful, no matter the cost to himself. He has no regard for his safety or his life. He has no idea what real love is. He does not believe anyone can look at all of him, see all he has done and love him. I can't wait for his healing journey. I know it will be raw and painful but beautiful.”

Let’s unpack a little:

- He sees Elain as the obvious choice. She’s the third sister, he’s the third brother. It fits. She’s beautiful. She seems to be attracted to him as well, so he wonders why she wasn’t given to him. He sees how his brothers have made a life and found hapiness with their mates, and he thinks getting one of his own will fix the loneliness he’s feeling right now. He thinks a mate will make him deserving of good things, as if self worth could come from somewhere outside of himself. Elain is just a fixation, the solution to his problem. But even in his head, he can’t tell us a single thing he likes about Elain and her character, other than her beauty. He cannot tell us if he loves her or why. It’s not even about him not planning beyond the lusty thoughts of Elain, it’s that he cannot explain why he likes her; and Rhys saw right through it. It was never love, just an unhealthy obssession, like the Tylenol powder.

- All he knows is abandonement, so in his own mind there must be something wrong with him and that’s why no one ever wanted him. He believes he’s not worthy of anything, so he fixes his attention on women who are unavailable to bypass the inevitable rejection he “knows” is coming. It’s easier like this.

- His hero complex comes into play here too. He’s the one always throwing himself head first into danger to make the people around him need him so he can feel useful, loved, and like he belongs. Elain’s rescue might have given him the idea that he’s meant to over protect Elain. And by protecting Elain and attaching himself to her, he now fits into the 3 brothers/3 sisters theory he has in his head.

- He has no idea what true love is. He has never experienced it…he never let anyone in, not even his brothers. Yes, they grew up together and all, but all of them always remark how closed off Azriel is, and no one has ever made him talk about his true feelings just because “he doesn’t want to”. With Elain, it’s the same. They talk about nothing important (when they do talk), but nothing in depth. It’s easy, comfortable, he doesn’t have to dig deep and it mantains his status quo. But sadly, this isn’t how Sarah writes her endgame couples.

Azriel’s healing journey must be uncomfortable for him. He won’t heal from his traumas unless he deals with all these issues head on, ripping off the bandaid. And his relationship with Elain isn’t pointing in this direction.

His journey is taking him on another path, dealing with his past, his feelings, his family, his heritage, his place in the IC. It will be rough, difficult and raw…but that’s what will make it even more beautiful indeed.

I’d like to say two things to that.

1. We’re in Cassians POV, not Gwyns. We don’t know it that was the reason why Gwyn was acting that way, it was Cassians interpretation. Unless we’re in Gwyns head, or Gwyn said Az made her uncomfortable, I take that statement with a grain of salt.

2. Even if Cassian was right; and Az made Gwyn uncomfortable, I think it’s safe to say it was only the first time they met. If Az made her uncomfortable, why would she banter/flirt with him. If she was uncomfortable she wouldn’t do that.

Also you say As didn’t give a fuck when gwyn was taken. Make you’re the one who needs to read the books cause 1. His siphons flared like flames 2. His shadows darkened and 3. He stuttered.

Az and Emerie never banter. If it meant nothing, why is it only Az and Gwyn? Why not Az and Emerie? Why not Gwyn and Cassian?

How did azriel display mate behavior when saving gwyn?

First, let’s look at this text from Helion when talking to Feyre:

“What happened?"

Helion didn't break my stare. "I tore the beasts apart with my bare hands."

A chill slid down my spine. "Why?"

He could have ended it a thousand other ways. Easier ways.

Cleaner ways.

Rhys went feral when he killed the Ravens, which was his mate instinct. In this scene, we see that Helion also went feral and slaughtered the beasts with his bare hands to safe LoA. This leads many to believe Helion and LoA are also mates. But it also directly parralels to Azriels reaction when he found Gwyn”

Quote: “Azriel slaughtered all of them within moments. He didn’t hesitate”

And I know many e/riels try to argue that of course he had to kill them to save Gwyn. But in the same book we learn that Az always leaves 2 people alive to interrogate. So it is out of his “usual” behavior to kill them all. We’ve never seen Az like that before. Not even when he saved Elain. He was calm then, could think clearly and didn’t have that feral instinct. After saving Elain, he displayed exactly the same behavior as before when saving Briar. He didn’t act out of character. Azriel has a savior complex and always throws himself in danger to save anyone. But he didn’t kill every soldier without thinking to get to them. That’s the difference. With Gwyn, he acted out of character. With Gwyn he went out of his usual “pattern” of leaving two soldiers to interrogate.

Also, Azriel wrapped Gwyn in his cloak, which is a direct parralel to Lucien wrapping Elain in his cloak. I’m not saying it’s mate behavior to wrap someone in your cloak, but it is an interesting parralel.

She’s not uncomfortable around Az. She teases him and challenges him. And….Gwyn annoying? That’s your opinion but Azriel found her charming, so…better luck next time. He smiled and she calmed him down. The image of her joy is still in his chest :)

Can an e/riel pls explain how will Elain defeat Koschei and revive the Dusk Court and go to Ramiel and develop her romance with Azriel and reject Lucien and deal with the political implications of the rejection or a potential blood duel between them all in one book? Or is Vassa going to defeat Koschei? The notion that the last book will be multipov isn't happening bc SJM has confirmed that herself. I'm literally so confused on how they think this will play out.

I just saw an E/riel TikTok about how Elain doesn’t want Lucien and one of the comments was like: Elain wants those shadows. And I’m just like ???

It’s so funny cause Elain doesn’t want shadows and the shadows don’t want Elain. Elain wants sunshine and the shadows hide from Elain. Don’t act to be pro Elain and then change her entire personality. I swear these people only self insert and don’t analyse characters.
