so if you romance and ascend astarion you can kick him in the balls when he tries to turn you and it’s just very funny, he’s so pissy about it. so much for the most powerful vampire of all time or whatever, he stamps around like a toddler and then leaves forever

#the thing about IPL is that‚ at least as far as i see it‚ they've essentially been propagating and encouraging an auteur myth regarding him #which is nothing new or unique to them; i think that people (audiences) naturally want to ascribe some Great Man Theory to everything #it's hard to conceptualize the fact that almost anything that comes from a ''studio'' will be the product of collaboration #people naturally want to personify things and attach a human face to what they like #and studios (whether game or whatever else) will indulge this by generally seeming to pick one or maybe two people (often men)#to essentially be the main ''face'' or ''spokesperson'' for the product. it's branding.#and it has an effect even if people obviously are aware that someone isnt the ONLY person who's hands touch a work #i see it in the way people take this very personal parasocial tone in how they talk about the creators they like #which is just a subset of the problem of parasociality in general but in this case i mean how they basically put these people on a pedestal #because they seem them as singularly responsible for creating Thing They Liked because of the aforementioned spokesmanship #i've seen it in how people talk about (and talk to) j sawyer and chris avellone as if they're singularly responsible for fallout #anthony burch and borderlands 2. christian linke and arcane #robert kurvitz and disco elysium (but to be very clear im not saying that makes cutting him out of his own intellectual property acceptable #fucking i don't know.... jeff kaplan and overwatch lmao #and very much with dybowski and pathologic. like the kind of memes i saw people make about him and the personal way they'd refer to him #BUT that pretty much all stopped after 2021 or so at least in the fandom spaces i saw #because i suppose people realized that whether those rumors and allegations were true or not that they did not really know this person #no matter how much they liked ''his'' game. and that he might not be a good person at all.#which is good. i think people should take that kind of ambivalence by default instead of getting parasocially attached to anyone #especially to one lead figure out of an entire studio #and then winding up distraught and disappointed when it turns out their fave did something bad #like be distraught for victims sure. but don't tell yourself you understand this person because their fiction spoke to you #and you won't wind up feeling personally betrayed.#i'm rambling big time but basically i hope people start taking this view more #because among other things. putting these people on pedestals and singling them out as auteurs gives them social power #which allows some of them to engage in the awful behavior that leaves fans feeling betrayed in the first place #and i hope that studios and creators stop leaning into it too #if it really is true that dybowski is barely involved with the IP anymore then IPL should say that.#don't prop him up as the face just because he's the one everyone knows #maybe they think it'll get backlash if anyone but him is said to be writing the game because of how much they leaned into him as the auteur

Reading Turning (I'm on ch. 131) and I'm so damn curious who Nahan actually is and what's his deal like how he knew so much and so detailed and he got to both the Hartan and the Apeto households earlier than the Cavalry did.

Also, I enjoy the Commander being a cryptic mess and Yuder being oblivious as hell.

i feel like there is so much to be said about drizzt do’urden’s religious views and how he’s a stand-in for culturally christian atheists. he grew up in a corrupt religious society and has religious trauma, so as a result he views all religion as bad. at first it seems like he’s going to have a “pagan finds jesus” story but he eventually rejects mielikki too, and imo, it always felt out of character that he followed her in the first place so i wasn’t surprised when he changed his mind. he was looking for a name to label his preexisting system of ideals, which feels very much like christians who claim “all that matters is that you live by the bible and live in a godly manner”. many religions are about teachings and traditions as much as they are about “just being a good person and following god’s vibes” (which i feel like is INCREDIBLY standard in american protestantism)

i think a lot of it comes down to the fact that the forgotten realms (and a lot of fantasy tbh) treats the gods as just Very Powerful People instead of the forces of nature personified (and again this is to be expected from a christian culture, where jesus was Just A Guy)

#ik i don’t really post about dnd lore bc most of it sucks ass and i prefer to ignore it lmao #only a very large sum of money could get me to reread those books tho lmao #it’s to be expected that they would apply morality to the gods when dnd has a morality system yk #it doesn’t work imo. but the way they approach religion feels like it was written by someone who is not religious and doesn’t rly understand #it’s the latent catholicism talking but religions aren’t synonymous with moral systems #it’s ethical guidance for sure but more than that #it’s belief AND practice AND also faith that you can’t know everything #the latter is kind of off the table in a world where the gods tangibly exist bc then it just becomes #‘the king is so powerful and better than you and has many secrets that he keeps for your protection’#in this type of religious system it makes all clerics seem like sycophants or fools #and yet we also have drizzt who says the gods and their worship are pointless #(which is why i never really bought that he was bought into mielikki)#if you want to make a criticism about systems of power. most fantasy still has kings and queens #been thinkin about drizzt and the drow a lot lately after one of my side moots and i were talking lol #and just how. utterly garbage the official lore is. from all aspects #mine #dnd

90s run PAD has this rlly annoying trend where he very often write a female character being in love w miguel and suddenly her entire character shrinks down to the scope of what drama this provokes and it's near continually in service to the narratives of men (Gabriel and Miguel interpersonal drama for example). even when there are actually interesting things to be mined from this angle like w lyla its like. this is a pattern w you dude.

I'm actually appalled at how much naruto shippuden filler I've skipped before. Like the prior two arcs were whatever. Kind of interesting, gave some extra perspectives on a few characters, but Eh

This third one, though. It's really going into Utakata to the point where I'm like. I can't believe I've always skipped this??? It's so interesting!!!! I really do hope that Naruto gets to learn he's a jinchuuriki too, bc even tho he's gonna get slurped up by that statue too, for Right Now at least, there's another jinchuuriki here. And Naruto has only met one before now (since he hasn't met Killer Bee yet). I think he deserves to get to know his fellow jinchuuriki.

#i am trying really hard to keep them at arms length because I haven't decided between leliana and zevran #yet somehow I accidentally started a romance with alistair which I didn't even notice until he pulled out the rose #i am convinced it started because my warden told him she likes him for himself not his blood #which is a perfectly normal thing to say given that's a thing he seems insecure about and she genuinely likes him *but not as love interest #at least that's where I needed to reload to because I felt too bad to shoot him down lmao #also it would be mildly weird because in my mind that warden sees alistair more as a sibling she really wants to give a pep talk to #and square up with anyone that's rude to him #anyway #my point stands because I have to make an active effort with leliana to not lead her on #and to be fair I'm not trying that hard to stop with with zevran but also his approval is so easy to get up as well #morrigan might break that pattern #i wouldnt know because for some reason she's straight #and I made a female warden because my inky is a dude and I can't have everyone powerful be a dude yk as much as I love cas

If Ais potentially finds MC at the beginning and brings them to Kuras, I wonder if Kuras directs patients that are beyond his abilities to the Seaspring as a last resort as their final choice...
