i am always thinking about the katniss and haymitch parallels like.......they both grew up in the seam. they were both reaped at 16, and by then both had no father, a single mother, and a younger sibling. it's not a stretch to imagine that haymitch felt the same responsibility to take care of his family that katniss did. he must've taken tesserae at least once. maybe he even picked up his knife skills from hunting or butchering animals to feed his family, just like she did. he tells katniss there used to be more whippings in district 12 - and that the person caring for the wounded was her mother - maybe he was breaking the rules just as frequently as she was. they were both rebels from the beginning. he survived his games by using the capitol's forcefield to rob them of a true final confrontation, she used the nightlock to rob them of a victor. they were both 16 years old.

Day 5 of hayffie week is Pretend/accidental relationship which gives me an excuse to get that one out of the hoard because I liked it a lot. Modern au, blind date setting with a twist.

Effie was annoyed long before she reached the restaurant. She didn’t want to do this. Not only didn’t she want to do this but the restaurant she hadn’t wanted to argue on was really out of her way, well away from the center of the city she preferred and, from outside, honestly looked like a hole in the wall. It was mostly offices around there, very… middle-class.

That was why, she reminded herself, she had sworn to herself years ago that she would stop agreeing to those stupid blind dates her mother set her up on. Because it never worked, it was always painfully boring when it wasn’t plain awkward and she hated every minute of it.

And yet every time she found herself agreeing to them if only to make the look of disappointment vanish from her face.

I think I just had a great idea…

Bailey Bass as Haymitch’s unnamed girlfriend🤯:

She’d be 15-17 I’d say and Bailey would definitely be able to play that age. In interview with a Vampire we saw she could do a Louisiana accent, she could definitely pull off a southern accent. I also imagine her being from the Seam so definitely non of that fairer type complexion, but also there is such a beauty about her. I could see her being a diamond in the rough, Haymitch’s hidden gem that he keeps all to himself. Ughhh I’m gonna make myself cry😭 I’d just love to see her POV whilst he’s on the games and her just having to watch at home, her banging on the TV because the signal keeps cutting out.

I also imagine her being a happy yet in calming way type of person, similar to Tsireya. But she can have a temper like Claudia, and also like Claudia she can have that calm and intellectual type of anger. It would be amazing to see Bailey in this role and I know it probably won’t happen but it’d be cool. What do you think her name would be since we have so many unnamed characters 💀

I also imagine her to be somewhat like Katniss to a certain extent, hence why Haymitch became so attached to her. She could be a daughter of Tam Amber💀💀💀

okay some thoughts about Sunrise on the Reaping, because if I don’t say anything I might go insane….

Another thing I’m interested in speculation-wise is how Haymitch’s character will be handled. I like to think THG series has great and well-written characters because they have flaws.

I think fandom and our own biases kind of form rose-colored glasses of certain characters, which is understandable.

And Haymitch is arguably more of the (book) fandom’s golden boy than canon-golden-boy Peeta.

But like, I’ve seen a lot of posts during my time being really into THG, and something that’s stuck with me is the idea that Katniss is not very likable. This was before Tbosas came out but this is even more so true for Coriolanus!

They’re both from a limited perspective, so we get to read all the messy thoughts, the unpleasant and angry ones. They do fucked up things and it’s so great to read.

But now with Haymitch being the confirmed protagonist (💖💖💖), it makes me think of what we’ll see him do. The thoughts he’ll have.

I jokingly typed somewhere “what if she [Suzanne Collins] makes him [Haymitch] a cheater or smth 😭” (idk if this was to a friend, a tumblr draft I never posted, or like just somewhere on my phone or smth) and I wasn’t being serious but the initial worry was still there: “what if my favorite character does something that makes me think differently/more negatively about them?” I’m not actually “worried” about this for SotR, but it’s still something I think about.

This also applies to Maysilee and every other character we know of in SotR. It also ties into the unfortunate reality of SotR being the headcanon destroyer 💀

There are so many what-if’s that come to mind with Sunrise on the Reaping,

Again, I’m not actually too concerned (at least I’m trying not to be?) that SotR will ruin Haymitch or the entire way I view Panem, but I’m interested to hear what others have to say. Because I’ve pretty much seen this sentiment before ever since SotR was announced.
