After catching up on Misfits and Magic 2 just in time for the Finale, I have to say: I can understand the early criticisms I heard about it not feeling as funny and feel good as the first season, but some fans Definitely just wanted to have their Harry Potter cake and eat it too. Not everybody, but some of y'all just wanted "Ethically Sourced Harry Potter" when the creators themselves felt continuing to pay homage, even in parody/satire, wasn't ethical.

There's been a glaring double standard regarding this election.

Ever since Trump rode down the kitchy golden escalator nine years ago he's been getting media mulligans for his behavior and extremist mindset. Being a sexual predator and Hitler fanboy are just dismissed as "Trump being Trump".

Meanwhile, some claim that Kamala Harris is unknown despite being in public service for two decades – as opposed to zero time for Trump before he was sworn in back in 2016.

Trump is being graded on a HŪGE curve while Kamala is being judged by standards which pre-date the era of grade inflation.

The performance art that is MisMags discourse right now makes me feel incredibly alienated, and as a queer artist, frustrated and angry. I'm sorry that I grew up an autistic outcast who enjoyed fantasy and therefore engaged with the biggest internationally accessible fantasy escapism series because I happened to be a child at the time. I'm sorry that, as a transgender intersex adult, I feel complicated about my relationship to my childhood interests. I'm sorry that I realized only as an adult with experience and perspective how these things harmed me and others in spite of the positives they gave me in my vulnerable and lonely childhood. I'm sorry that clearly, Aabria and the Magical Misfits feel the same, wanted to explore that feeling, created their own world based on critique which they want to explore further, and are able to create an art piece to share about it. I'm sorry that not everyone is as willing to let JKR be granted ownership of a genre and setting of tropes (magical boarding schools) which she capitalized on, that existed before her, and deserves to exist after her, and I'm sorry that in order to deny her undue ownership of others labor, her work requires acknowledgement through criticism.

You can and should just not watch it. The transphobia towards Erika is unwarranted, and hurts every Trans fan of D20, especially those of us who do have these complicated relationships towards the Harry Potter universe. Humans are allowed complicated relationships with traumatic events and systems. That's literally a CONSTANT theme being discussed in D20 is these complex dynamics.

I'm starting Misfits and Magic for the first time! First thoughts:

-on another episode I'll have to pause and READ everything in these opening credits!

-you just know Erika's character does the xXxBrokenDreamsxXx style. It's soooo 2000s!

-the "lucky break" is bowling logic for dice.

-Whitney's "private schools are weird as hell" is such a hilarious reaction that feels so real.

-The irony of Dream being all "I'm different from everybody else and unique," while I'm like, "Girl, you are a decade away from having an Evanescence poster like all the other baby goths from my day."

-Also, I love her parents.

-The mere fact that Sam is an influencer makes me want to hate her, but Danielle is very cheery, so maybe I shouldn't be quick to judge.

-Thank you, Lou, for asking, "wtf is a muckbomb?" Because I had NO IDEA.

I'm rewatching Mamma Mia 2, and:

I want at least half of young Donna's wardrobe (namely the turquoise hat, the denim jacket with a star and that colorful jacket she wore in Paris)

I love that they keep saying about Rosie that she's strong (which she is), and at the same time, Harry keeps saying about himself that he's spontaneous (which he isn't).

Also, Hugh Skinner as young Harry is just perfect.
