Yes, Gregory can be ruthless, but you’re trying to tell me the same kid who risked his life to get Freddy (who he had only known for a few hours) would willingly try to kill Cassie (who seems to be his only friend?) I know people will try to point to the ‘GGY’ story, but please remember he was possessed by Glitchtrap in that (Like how Vanessa was).

Personally, I think the mimic took over his voice at the end like this thread said but that brings the question as to why. Well, as we’ve seen, the animatronics (At least Roxy) want Gregory, not Cassie. What’s the easiest way to get Gregory back?

Trapping his friend at the Pizzaplex.

Plus, it helps the Mimic to ruin Cassie’s trust in Gregory. Trick her so much, how can she tell if/when Gregory does come to help her, it’s really him? Is it the real Gregory, or another trick? How can Cassie trust him after everything the Mimic put her through? How can she trust her own eyes after the VANNI mask?

just realised a neat thing.

so, the beta kids' respective denizens are typheus for john, cetus for rose (not technically explicitly confirmed but cetus is her browser so its basically confirmed), hephaestus for dave and echidna for jade.

dave and jade have, at some point, obtained weapons from their denizens; davesprite gives john the code for fear no anvil, hephaestus's hammer, and jade has the quills of echidna at some point because they're a part of the bunny's arsenal. obviously, these match the strife specibi for the other two kids, with the quills being needlekind.

ahab's crosshairs is a reference to captain ahab from moby dick, who was killed by the titular whale. the constellation commonly associated with cetus is the whale. it's therefore not out of the question that at the very least something similar could be obtained if rose ever actually interacted with her denizen. and ahab's crosshairs is riflekind, the specibi for jade.

so in theory, the denizens give out weapons suitable for other players, and typheus could probably give john a sword (that would inevitably get broken via shenanigans) to suit dave's bladekind

alright, so the security monitor thing has a dead catnap on top of it. This symbolism leads me to believe that it's probably related to the prototype, furthering its appearance as an 'all-seeing eye' in the facility.

Playtime is either a shell company for the company denoted by the square, or the square is the true 'flower' we're meant to find - Playtime's true logo.

when Yarnaby's head splits open, the two sides of his mouth resemble two hemispheres of a brain.

it seems my lobotomy headcanon wasn't too far off. It just wasn't done to Sawyer.

The ARG website is called 'icepick'. We come to see that Quinn was a mentally disturbed orphan and, in becoming Yarnaby, had his mental acuity severely limited.

This imagery is big - Yarnaby's brain splits as he opens his mouth to attack. Yarnaby's brain splits as he takes the stance of what he has become: a monster.

In the ARG, we see that Yarnaby is lost and dejected without the presence of Sawyer, his 'master'. I still hold onto some little hope that Sawyer will somehow be alive in Ch.4, but it seems a likely narrative point that The Prototype will be able to control Yarnaby by mimicking his long-gone 'master's' voice.

Imagine that you were a post-human, animalistic being, groomed for one purpose: to care only about one man. That man is, quote, "removed", and you are left lost and aimless. Then, a divine mechanical being you cannot comprehend speaks to you in his voice.

I think that Yarnaby will believe, or choose to believe, that Sawyer is truly commanding him.

We still have no definitive proof one way or the other on who the player is. How wild would it be if we played as Sawyer. Probably unlikely considering how Poppy addresses us in Ch.3 ("to get revenge on the monsters who've tortured you!"), but how cool of a narrative would it be if Yarnaby's allegiance has so fully swayed to the Prototype's version of Sawyer, that when his master returns, he follows the Prototype's command to attack.

Hell. Maybe that could be how Sawyer dies in the HoJ. He abandons Yarnaby and the Prototype comforts him by speaking to him in Sawyer's voice. Then when he takes control in the HoJ, orders him to kill Sawyer when Sawyer retreats back to his 'bodyguard' for protection from the monsters he's created.

i know we didn't see any of the funny spider lady, but this upd8 had something even better: the Patreon stories are being integrated.

i don't post much about it because there's been nothing to post about, but i am so mentally ill about The Influencers you have no idea.

anyway i have a working theory about how they matter. looking at the page numbers for HSBC vs original Homestuck, we're just after [S] Dave: Ascend right now. we're getting close to what was the end to Act 2 originally, and i know i remember someone on the team saying we're approaching the end of this act but i can't remember for the fucking life of me where. but what did we get in Act 3 of Homestuck? the trolls. however, we only really got the three "patron trolls" (also Tavros sometimes)

Imode and Silas have relationships, however small, with Harry and Tavvy respectively, which would i guess leave Avril to Vrissy. i believe that they will be their "patrons" (pun intended), guiding them on their journey, perhaps more directly than just facilitating the story and fixing plot holes.

Yiffy doesn't get one because she doesn't need one. She's Yiffany goddamn Longstocking fucking Lalonde-Harley. she got that dog in her.

classpect titles: identity vs. the narrative

right. here’s something i’ve been meaning to talk about for a while. the assignment of classpect titles.

before i start, i want to make something clear: i’m not here to tell anyone how to identify. i am of the opinion that everyone knows themselves best. i’m not here to tell anyone how to classpect: this is a wacky business filled to the brim with speculation. this is merely an account of my views and opinions.

the classpecting community at large, here on tumblr at least, is very concerned with one’s personality when assigning classpect titles. this approach also necessitates a focus on both class and aspect in tandem; making sense as one full concept, a one and done thing, rather than two components of a title. a title, not a name.

a prince of heart is one who destroys heart. therefore the prince must destroy heart. he cannot engage in destructive behaviour, fall into that class’ archetypal pitfalls and climb its archetypal highs, and also have an arc concerned with identity, see the world in those terms at the same time. he must always be a [destroyer of heart].

it all ends up rather stereotypical; a prince destroys, therefore the prince is bad. a knight protects, therefore the knight is good.

i find it more constructive to look at classes as archetypes, because at their origin, this is what they are. patterns of behaviour one repeats again and again, falls back on when they are at their wits’ end. this is where the narrative view of classpects comes in.

class represents the hero’s internal processes. their values. a sort of concise list of their greatest faults and greatest strengths, like horoscopes in the newspaper. made to be generic. made for the hero to grow with and past them. it makes sense then why most prefer to classpect based on personality: it is easier to look at yourself as a list of traits than it is to look at yourself as a history, a narrative path you’ve walked. actually, that brings me to a good metaphor: your class is your shoes. the trail you walk. your aspect is the scenery.

classpecting from a narrative angle requires a shift in perspective, and acknowledging one stark difference between the hero title of myself and say, the hero title of jake english. we are both hope players, yet one of us is a person. the other is a character. the title system in homestuck is made around characters. the game is deliberately set up to help its players grow, and in doing that sets them on a path loosely defined by their title. people are a bit more complicated.

seeing yourself as a character isn’t easy. it’s almost impossible. characterhood is objective; personhood is not. in a story, we see its characters’ entire arcs in one line, we can clearly identify the inflection points in their stories and which themes repeat again and again. but as people our lives are ongoing; we are not afforded the same omnipotence, the ability to see time all at once.

class is incredibly hard to determine because of this. aspect is a bit easier. it is the themes that repeat again and again in our lives, a backdrop for all else to happen. it is a lens through which we see and understand the world. a light player might see their world as a story. a heart player might see the world as a tangle of identities rubbing up against and affecting each other. the possibilities are as endless as paradox space, which is to say not at all or quite a lot, depending on how you look at things. and how big you are in the scheme of them.

of course some measure of both narrative and personality classpecting must be employed for the most accurate outcome to be produced. one cannot look at the forest’s reflection in the lake and claim to know the beasts within. one cannot build a house with only bricks. but a healthy harmony should be strived towards in order for the result to be most accurate.
