My Great Aunt's Molasses Cookies - 5/5

I actually made a metric ton of cookies this month, but this was the one two batches I made by myself. This one comes straight from the fam, so I have to type out the recipe (spoilers, it seems suspiciously like the recipe on the molasses jar, but it is slightly different).

INGREDIENTS 3/4c shortening 1c sugar 1/4c molasses (we get mild) 1 egg 1/2 tsp cloves (we don't use them bc my mom hates them) 1/2 tsp ginger 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp salt 2 tsp baking soda 2c flour extra sugar for rolling

DIRECTIONS • Preheat the oven to 375ºF

• Mix shortening and sugar; add molasses and mix.

• Put egg in a separate bowl and put the dry spices into the egg. Mix together and then blend them in with the rest. (author's note: I don't really know why we do this bc mixing the spices with the egg is hard and you have to really scrape it out of the second bowl, but who am I to judge)

• Add in the flour and baking soda. (author's note: I mix these and the salt separately, like you would a normal cookie recipe, then add them gradually)

• Use a small cookie scoop to make the balls and roll in sugar.

• Bake on ungreased sheet at 375 degrees for 8-10 mins. They need to look done but not necessarily brown. Makes approx. 3 doz

NOTE: The first batch was made subbing in butter for shortening. I added ~1/2tsp of corn starch just to see what would happen, but they still spread considerably. They're much chewier than the shortening version though. Next time I might try using slightly less molasses or adding a little more flour to offset the extra liquid from the butter.

ANOTHER NOTE: The shortening cookies do come out a little crunchier, but you can do the trick where you put them in a container with a fresh slice of bread for a day or so to soften them up.

Anyway, we love these cookies. My mom makes them all the time because they make a lot, they're pretty easy, and they taste really good. Plus, they're usually something that you wouldn't see when you'd expect cookies!

Make this for yourself or make a bunch for gifts!

Prep: 5 mins - EASY

1 cup of dark brown sugar

1/4 coconut solid oil

1 Tablespoon blackstrap molasses (FACT: molasses contains lactic acid and can help treat acne, eczema and rosacea. It also has anti aging antioxidants and it sooths skin!) So yeah...use it!

1 teaspoon cinnamon, dried ground ginger and 1/3 teaspoons of dried ground cloves.

Option: a teaspoon of vanilla

Mix all well in a bowl then transfer to mason jars. Add labels that say put on damp skin and scrub lightly. Wash off.

Also - warn them that they will smell like a snack so they might have to sing "catch me if you can I'm the gingerbread man" or replace with correct name :)

This doesn't have much to do with your Ocs but, which of the canon characters are your favorites? PS: How does the Trio deal with Splendid?(You know, the guy is super strong omg)

I’ve answered the first part of this question so many times already so I’m gonna skip that, I hope you don’t mind TTwTT

So for the most they don’t really deal with Splendid. Splendid is what they consider a “catalyst” resident. So, while he can be killed, it is quite a task to do. He can, however, be very useful as a tool for extracting blood in mass quantities. Just a sprinkle of bad luck mixed in with his already existing carelessness and a simple heroic mission becomes a lucrative blood bath.

Nergal though does acknowledge that Splendid has the potential to be a viable threat, so he refuses to let himself be seen by him. The less Splendid knows the better. Lucky for the trio, if the trouble is not standing right there in front of him (or getting in the way of his chores) he doesn’t seem to notice or care to notice.

Out of sight, out of mind n all.

Now as for how they feel about him, that’s a little different.

They are aware of him at least.

BEYOND + Love: My favourite unnecessarily depressing headcanon that I just LOVE to contemplate and that I've written a fic for at one time as well is that A and B were LOVERS, and that B partially went bad because of what happened to A at Wammy's... ohhh the melodramatic angst, like he'd have to have seen A's short lifespan the entire time they were together, too.... bwahhhh

BEYOND + Crying: The way B is characterized in the novel, I feel like he's somebody who literally hasn't cried in years and years, and may even think he's forgotten altogether how to do it. I also feel like he'd be the type to cry more over stuff like a sappy scene in an anime he really loves than something more obviously tragic...

BEYOND + Laughter: Whenever I write B in fics I usually never write him laughing for real, or barely even smiling either. I feel like he's very expressive and dramatic, but not in that kind of way? He reacts strongly to things with his words and body language, but he's not the type to genuinely crack up at a joke, unless it's one of his obviously fake over-the-top laughs. I feel as though his emotional reactions to things are always a little bit uncanny and unusual, and usually put other people ill-at-ease... [headcanon asks]

Round 3 Writings

After the complications of the last experiment, Cyril- took accountability. While he hasn't had it in him yet to see Roman himself after taking him to the medical wing, he did let Pip know that he was injured and where to find him. More worried than angry over what little the elf could reveal to them, Pip made sure to be at Roman's side. A bit of role reversal happens where Roman was asleep in the medical wing when they arrived, maybe passed out? It sounded serious, and from the extent of injuries, Pip could only imagine what happened. Sitting by his side until he woke up, they greeted him gently. They are aware from previous talks with Cyril and Roman they can't REALLY tell them what happened- seems to be a common thing here but they made sure the time jumper knew they were there to support him, much like he was for them, promising to offer entertainment if they could. I have varying ideas of how something like this could go. Roman enjoys Pip's company but putting on the fake smile and saying he is all right is harder as time goes on, slowly pulling away from them as they fall deeper into their own thoughts and worries. Or he does that to start, knowing the danger he could be in and potentially put them in, and in efforts of protecting them, tries to shut them out- but as stated many times before, Pip is quite persuasive, slowly making progress with Roman to stay close, showing him they aren't going to just leave him cause things get difficult- they're friends, right? Roman has been there during some of the most insane and scary moments in their life at this point, and they wish to offer the same level of care in return. Taking the hand of his good arm, they offer reassurance and stability.

Ever since the incident in the library, anytime Cyril and his academic rival would be there together they insisted on it- so long as the workload wasn't too heavy or serious of course. If it was possible to spare a hand, they would take his and happily continue writing whatever notes they needed for their next research topic. It was a welcome distraction for the elf but led to other thoughts and problems in his head he was too scared to voice. Whenever he seemed stuck in those thoughts though, they would squeeze his hand, pulling him out of it to glance over at the human who was still reading whatever book they were on in their elemental research. He didn't know just how much the other really knew about what was going on inside or if he was giving signs of distress, but Cyril appreciated the gesture and would give a small one in return before looking back to his own papers. When they were here together like this, it could put him at ease, just enjoying the quiet turning of pages or the scratching of pen on paper. When they aren't being shameless at the library, they walk closer together when around the institute or out to the café to get a caffeine fix or food that doesn't come in a wrapper. Going to Ellis' shop to be away from their peers prying eyes (and Cyril's sanity) just to talk freely without the weight of projects or other people on them. That isn't to say it was peaceful when he met up with his Papa for tea or lunch lately though, teasing him about making things official and having them come by to have dinner together sometime for all four of them. He's seen them around each other more and more lately and was relentless now in wanting to make sure his son lives a full and happy life. Red faced and frustrated with the topic still being brought up he thanked Reuban for the tea before leaving, grumbling to himself about how both of them are going to be his demise one day.

Sawashiro had joined the yakuza in order to reunite with the son he abandoned son Masato Arakawa, that much was clear. However, apparently he'd done too fine of a job gaining the senior Arakawa's trust and respect in the process: what would seem like a dream and perfect opportunity to some could only promise an awkward evening for Sawashiro as he was given the important task of babysitting Masato. By himself. When he had no experience whatsoever with children on his own.

But if Arakawa appeared to have enough faith in him, then what reason did he have to doubt himself? Plenty, really.
