Dans le sang - commentaire

Après avoir écrit La fin d'un rêve (donc, aux alentours de 2016), j'avais pour projet de faire d'autres écrits sur Shura. Dans le sang a été la première chose, avec une réécriture de Conquête, qui m'est venue à l'esprit.

Bon, au jour d'aujourd'hui, nous sommes en 2024. Ça m'a demandé presque 8 ans à écrire cet OS. Truc de fou quand on y pense...

Je voulais que Saizo est un rôle à jouer, mais j'ai eu du mal à décidé le point de vue que je voulais prendre. Corrin ? Shura ? Saizo ? À un moment j'ai même envisagé Kotaro. Puis tout ça a été mis au placard, ma réécriture n'avançant pas, et tout le fandom de FE:Fates en entier. Ce qu'on me proposait ne m'intéressait pas. Il y a bien PetiteDaisy sur ffnet propose des choses sympathiques, et il y a la très bonne réinterprétation (et non réécriture) de Conquête par Gabybou26, mais en plus de devoir retourner sur ce site qui pue la vieille chaussette (on va pas se mentir qu'il y a une raison pour laquelle tout le monde part sur AO3 en dehors des problèmes de censure), il n'y avait pas grand chose pour moi à mettre sous la dent. Et même la fanfic de Gabybou26, j'avoue que j'ai lâché car j'attendais une réécriture, bien qu'elle m'avait mis en garde qu'il s'agissait davantage d'une appropriation (et d'un embellissement à la limite) plus que de quitter la trame principale...

Des réécritures de Fire Emblem Fates, il y en a. Des pelletés. Des dizaine au moins dédiés rien qu'à ça. Et c'est super, il y en a... presque pour tous les goûts. Elles restent souvent sur des sentiers battues de ce que j'ai pu lire en terme de couple (Azurrin, toujours et encore plus d'Azurrin...) et Shura reste dans l'ombre dans la quasi-totalités que j'ai lu. Sauf que pas de pot, bien qu'il y a PLEIN de personnages dans Fire Emblem Fates que j'apprécie, j'aime tellement Shura que je ne veux lire que sur lui, n'écrire que lui - bref, le classique brain rot sévère des famille, surtout quand tout le monde l'ignore (ou pire, fait des blagues dignes du fandom de FMA(B) au recyclage rincée. Vous savez de quoi je parle).

Bref, je m'égare. Bien que j'ai encore relevé des coquilles en me relisant, dans l'ensemble, je suis assez fière de cet OS. J'aurai souhaité que l'affrontement entre Shura et Kotaro soit plus long. J'ai encore des difficultés à faire des descriptions d'action...

Le personnage de Saizo a une relation compliquée avec moi : je le comprend très bien, écrire sur lui me vient naturellement mais c'est aussi un personnage que je n'apprécie pas vraiment. C'était un bon exercice, je pense, d'écrire sur une personnalité aussi bornée, étroite d'esprit et arrêté dans ses idées. Il a un très gros potentiel tragique.

Kotaro est pour sa part un méchant assez caricatural, mais sa simplicité le rend aussi très facile à écrire.

Bien que j'ai repris certaines phrases importantes des échanges canons, je voulais me laisser une marge d'interprétation. Je m'étais posée la question de si je reprenais complètement le canon avec Corrin qui va chercher Kagero dans les cachots (et qui l'insulte gratuitement une fois libérée mdr OK) , mais finalement, la fin c'est écrite d'elle-même. Que ce soit clair par ailleurs : Shura n'attendait pas à une réponse de Kotaro : son message avait pour seul objectif de cracher sur son égo.

Evidemment, je ne pouvais pas m'empêcher de mettre un peu de Shurrin, hein, on change pas une équipe qui gagne. Mais je ne me suis pas permise de le classer en ship : la relation qu'ils entretiennent dans cet OS est amicale tout au mieux mais surtout professionnelle en tant que vassal et seigneur. Je suis d'ailleurs la seule à penser que Shura devient techniquement le vassal de Corrin dans Conquête ? Les autres voies, je dis pas, il semble être un soldat random, mais ici ça m'a toujours paru explicite qu'il devenait son vassal, sa 'responsabilité' pour l'avoir gracié.

Encore une fois, je m'égare. Je crois que j'ai fais le tour pour cet OS de toute manière.

“Wait, actually? You don’t think people think you’re pretty?”

You don’t even know how the conversation ended up on this topic. Sitting at the balcony catching up with Trent after you moved away. Now, he’s a big shot footballer and you’re working to get your degree.

Fifteen year old you guys would be proud.

You shook your head, it's not a new thought for you, “Nah, but that’s okay though. I think I’m pretty, but I don’t know if I am someone’s hallway crush or people just look at me and think — Wow, pretty.”

This is the type of stuff that you only spill on your diary, but it’s Trent, and he knows more about you than you do yourself.

It’s not something new you have come to terms with, after seeing most of your friends' getting crushes, getting hit on, going on dates and having relationships except you, you have made peace with it.

Trent’s forehead creases, as if the statement offended him more than you, “That’s crazy, tha’” Trent could not believe what you just said. You? Not pretty? Are you insane?

Turning your head to face him, you warmly smiled, “Don’t pretend, T.” and when you look at Trent, taking in his features, now this is pretty. “You’re pretty. People think you’re pretty.”

You didn’t know why you decided to say that. Maybe because the moonlight illuminates his skin and eyes, making him shine a little bit brighter. Butterflies swarm your belly, as your hand sweats.

Trent’s cheeks went warm, he thinks he’s the luckiest person ever to get compliment from you. His heart aches for you, but he decided to focus on the task at hand first.

"That's stupid." he spat out, making your eyebrows shoot up.

You lightly chuckled, "Excuse you? I just gave you a compliment."

"Not that." he sighed, turning his body around so that it would be face to face with yours. You noticed the disturbed look in his eyes, as you straightened your back before meeting his gaze.

"It's not that serious T, I'm fine." you assured him, an awkward laugh bubbling out. This took a serious turn, and you have no idea why.

"Do you remember James? In 8th grade?"

You furrowed your eyebrows, "The one that gave me chocolate? Yeah, what about him?"

He took a deep breath, "He said, and I quote, that when you laugh, he can honestly melt because you look so pretty.”

"We were kids, sometimes kids just say stuff-"

"And I agreed with him, and I said that making you laugh is probably one of the most rewarding things I can do because I love seeing you smile so much. You look so pretty when you laugh like nobody's around."

Your heart stuttered, but before you said anything else he continued, "And remember the girl that you worked with at the cafe down the road? The one with curly hair?"

You nodded your head.

"When I was waiting for you to finish your shift, she noticed how much I was looking at you, and she said that she gets it, and that it's sometimes hard to focus on making the drinks because you would look so pretty smiling while taking people's orders."

You cleared your throat, “That’s- That’s very nice of her.” avoiding the words that makes you question you and Trent’s friendship.

His tongue pokes out to lick his lips, making your eyes focus on it, “Sometimes I look at you and I go blank because of how pretty you are.”

What the fuck? What the fuck, what the fuck, what the fuck.

Your eyes searched for his, but he pointedly avoided it, choosing to stare down on his hands.

After finishing the story, Trent bellowed out a laugh, "You know how many people ask me for your number because they think that you're pretty?" he paused, "But they backed away because they 'know' that you're already someone's because of how I look at you."

Your mouth gaped open and close like a fish, slowly processing everything that he's telling you. "What?"

"They said that I look at you like I was smitten. Like I was in love." you were sure your pulse stopped for a second, hearing the guy that you had a crush on for years saying stuff you hear in songs.

Trent’s mouth was faster than his brain, he really should have stopped talking, but he couldn't. All of his words were all vomiting out of his mouth. He could feel his heart beating out of his chest.

"And then I said that if I was going to fall in love with anyone that I'd want it to be you."

Je comprends que ce soit difficile, 30 ans c'est un cap dans l'approche culturelle...

Mais au fond, est-ce vraiment important ?

Est-ce que ton corps est en bonne santé ? Ou tout au moins, suffisamment pour te permettre de continuer à vivre correctement ? As-tu l'impression qu'il a vraiment vieilli ? Que peux-tu faire pour le préserver ? Es-tu heureux/se, ou tout au moins satisfait/e de ta vie actuelle ? Sinon, que peux-tu faire pour aller dans le chemin de vie que tu souhaites aller ?

Vieillir, c'est difficile et effrayant. Pour plein de choses différentes : peur de ne plus être dans le coup, de perdre sa fraicheur, de sentir ses capacités diminuées, de devenir "moche"... et de ne plus être "jeune" !

Mais ce qu'il faut, c'est essayer de vivre sa vie avec le moins de regrets possibles.

Quand j'ai passé mes vingt-cinq ans (donc pas tout à fait 30 ans), ça m'a fait un choc aussi sur le moment, et après je me suis rendue compte que ça ne changeait pas grand chose. Je vais continuer à viser mes objectifs de vie, ce qui, je crois, me rendra heureuse et satisfaite de mon existence. Je vais continuer à prendre soin de mon corps le plus possible.

J'espère que ça te donnera un bout de réponse et te permettra de voir les choses sur un autre angle. Trente ans sur Terre, c'est beaucoup, certes, mais il te reste d'autant plus de choses à découvrir dans le futur ! ;)

Je vais avoir 30 ans dans quelques mois et ça me fait très bizarre. Je n'ai pas l'impression d'être à 30 ans M-3. J'ai l'impression d'avoir 25 ans grand max.

Je me demandais si vous voudriez bien partager comment vous vivez l'approche de la trentaine, ou comment vous vivez le fait d'avoir plus de 30 ans, parce que moi je le vis très mal.

Ever After High OCs let’s gooo!!1!

Madra Chulainn, the Daughter of Cú Chulainn.

Okay so first things first, me making her is dooming EAH!Ulster to go to war every generation so. Keep that in mind

Her time as an EAH student is a mix of during and after her training with the next Scathach, her first two years would be during it and her last two would be after.

That does mean during her final years she could possibly be married to the next Emer.

Let me try to explain her family because it gets weird. She’s not technically the daughter of Cú Chulainn. The last Cú Chulainn, let’s call him Gadhar, would’ve died young and way before she’d be born. Her mother is Gadhar’s Emer figure, but her technical father is Lugh, following the story of Lugh magically putting a baby in Cú Chulainn’s mother’s womb without actually having sex with her. So her mother was the previous generation’s Emer, her technical father is the god Lugh, and Gadhar Chulainn is her already-dead stepdad and technical half-brother through Lugh. However, in the story Cú Chulainn is not only Lugh’s son but also an incarnation of Lugh, meaning Cú is an aspect of Lugh himself. So Madra is both Lugh’s technical daughter and an aspect of Lugh himself, and Gadhar is her already-dead stepdad, technical half-brother, and also a past incarnation of herself. Also, she has like way too many foster parents.

This does make her a demigod of sorts.

The fact that she’s a girl does make people be extremely doubtful if she’s capable of being the next Cú Chulainn, but no one can really deny she’s supposed to be Cú Chulainn because of the whole, y’know, Lugh thing.

Much like Cú Chulainn himself, Madra got the name Madra Chulainn after acting as a guard dog for the Culann house. Her name before that was Síthmaíth.

Madra is freakishly strong. To give an example, in the story Cú once broke about seventeen chariots because they could not withstand his strength.

Madra does go into a ríastrad/battle frenzy like Cú did. This has banned her from the Bookball team.

Madra cannot refuse food given to her by a girl. If she does she’ll become physically weaker.

She weirdly acts like a dog at times despite not actually even being part dog.

She has a loud personality and she’s very active. She also gets very violent when shocked or just caught off guard. She’s definitely broken someone’s nose when they surprised her. She’s also prone to fits of anger and gets irritated very easily.

She plays Camogie and wants to introduce it to Ever After High.

Her pet is an Irish Wolfhound named Dorcha.

Madra would like to Rebel against destiny but she doesn’t think she can. She’s been fated to everlasting fame but dying young ever since she was a child, and once she graduates Ulster will go to war with Connacht because of the next Medb, and Madra will have to fight because otherwise Ulster doesn’t stand a chance. She doesn’t think she can stop the war from happening so she doesn’t think she has a choice other than living out her story. Not only that, she worries that if she doesn’t go through with her story she’d be going directly against the will of her gods, especially Lugh, and she knows that eventually The Morrígan will seek her out, so to her it’s better if she just goes through with her destiny instead of trying to fight against it.

She’s roommates with Momoko. The two do them get along relatively fine, but they’re not particularly close.

Momoko Hana, the Daughter of Momotaro

Momoko attends Ever After High as part of an exchange program. She used to go to a school in East Asia.

In between the years Momoko attended Ever After High, she would complete her destiny during the summer, as Momotaro is typically depicted as a teenager when he sets out on his expedition.

People were shocked that she was a girl, but like Madra her destiny can’t be denied because of her unique birth, coming out of a giant peach.

Momoko struggles to understand people. She wants to make people happy but she’s really bad at conflict resolution, especially since her main method is just giving people Kibi dangos.

Momoko is one of the few girls to be taking Heroics classes. Other girls in the class would be Madra and Jillian.

Momoko is extremely skilled with weaponry, especially sharp ones such as knives and swords. She’d be able to cut down a tree in just a few swings.

Momoko, surprisingly, does not dislike the Oni.

Momoko has spoken with her gods before.

Momoko believes it is impossible to go against destiny and that even the act of going against the set stories is the work of destiny itself.

A lot of people, both Royals and Rebels, are annoyed by Momoko because she kind of refuses to look at destiny at a deeper level. She’s very dismissive of the conflict and sees herself as above it, thinking of it as a silly Ever After thing that’ll blow over at some point. She gets proven wrong about this pretty quickly though.

Momoko doesn’t see the word of the Grimm family as absolute law, since she is not from a place where they have influence over the native fairy tales.

Momoko’s only respect for Milton Grimm comes from the fact that he’s an authority figure. If they were on equal standing she would absolutely destroy him.

Momoko has three animal companions. A monkey, a pheasant, and a dog named Nashi, Yuzu, and Ume respectively. They’re not pets, being capable of speech and human level intelligence, and they live with Momoko in her dorm room. They do not get along with each other.

Along with being skilled in martial arts and weaponry, she also like the theatre and acting.

When Momoko first came to Ever After High, one of the biggest culture shocks she experienced was the fact that she was important. Obviously in Japan the story of Momotaro is extremely popular and influential, so Momoko was a highly respected figure in her homeland. In Ever After though? Very little people knew of the Momotaro story. She thinks it’s unfair, since Ever After’s stories are also very popular in Japan but not the vice versa. It wouldn’t bother her so much if it weren’t for the fact that some students are very dismissive of her influence and importance in her homeland, since she’s not a famous figure in Ever After.

She’s roommates with Madra. Their dorm is as clean as a dorm housing four animals and Madra can be.

Lucia Wick, the Niece of Lucignolo

Starting with the obvious. The reason she’s to niece of Lucignolo instead of daughter is because the Lucignolo from the generation before went missing after turning into a donkey, so it was his sister that had to continue the story.

Lucia is a childhood friend of Cedar. According to the story the two of them should be best friends so they were often paired together whenever they were younger. Despite this the two of them never really clicked with each other.

Since Lucia was expected to be a troublemaker, the adults in her life didn’t define the boundaries of what’s right or wrong as much as they did with other children.

A good portion of her time at Ever After High consists of taking detention.

I’ve recently been imagining her with a New Yorker accent.

Sometimes, Lucia’s ears will turn into donkey ears. This mostly happens when she sneezes but it can be triggered by other things.

Lucia is afraid of her destiny because of the uncertainty around it. Her uncle went missing after being turned into a donkey and this is a pattern with the Lucignolo destiny. Most of them went missing and of those who were found, most of them would end up dying as donkeys. Of all the Lucignolos from way back to the 1880s, Lucia only knows of one that was saved and transformed back. It’s because of this uncertainty and not-very-good chances that Lucia aligns herself with the Rebel cause.

Her fear of her destiny began around the time she was a preteen-tween, when she was starting to actually comprehend it, and because of this she started to distance herself from Cedar, hoping to delay her ending for as much as possible. During her first year of Ever After High she actively avoided Cedar. However, she also feels partially guilty that perhaps she’s also delayed Cedar’s story. Almost every Pinocchio became a human when they were young so Lucia worries that her trying to escape her story might have messed up with Cedar’s.

She’s really into embroidery and textile arts.

She also likes using incenses.

She’s very clever and quick-witted.

Lucia likes causing mischief around the school, especially towards the professors but also just to anyone who annoys her.

She has a pet salamander called Matchstick

It’s very hard to convince her to do something that she wouldn’t derive personal enjoyment from. Because of this she often never does her school work or assignments.

Lucia doesn’t think she has many friends, despite hanging out with a lot of people, because she has pretty high standards.

She’s roommates with Hannah. She thinks Hannah is very bothersome, especially with her music. She’d considers Hannah her best friend.

Hannah Hedgehog, the Daughter of Hans My Hedgehog

She’s the same age as the others, she’s just short.

Don’t draw attention to the fact that’s she’s short, even in a joking manner. It really pisses her off.

Hannah doesn’t shift between her humanoid form and an animal farm, like Bunny or Duchess. She’s stuck in her hybrid form.

Hannah does curl into herself when scared, angry, or just upset.

As hedgehogs are nocturnal, Hannah has a more erratic sleep schedule than others.

Hedgehogs hibernate for six months starting in October/November. During that time Hannah sleeps most of the day and only gets up for classes.

Hannah is firmly a Rebel and has a genuine disliking towards the Royals.

Hannah spends most of her time in the woods.

She plays the bagpipes.

Hannah chooses to rebel, despite having a typical happy ending, is because she disagrees with the ending itself. In the end of the story, Hans would be rid of his hedgehog half and live on as a human man, finally being accepted. Hannah doesn’t want to give up a part of herself simply so others would see her as an equal. She’d rather have people treat her respectfully the way she is.

Hans My Hedgehog’s parents treated him awful and unfortunately, that is the same for Hannah. Her parents are ashamed of her being half hedgehog, despite her father himself having been half hedgehog in the past. They make her sleep by the stove and neglect her.

During the time she attends Ever After High, she isn’t living with her parents. In the Hans My Hedgehog story, Hans left to live alone in the woods when he was eight, so when Hannah was young her parents forced her out so she would follow her story.

She has a pet rooster called Rusty.

Hannah hates being treated differently in any way for being half hedgehog. Obviously she doesn’t like being treated unkindly like her parents and a lot of others have, but she also doesn’t like how a lot of people in Ever After High treat her, where it’s in the opposite direction and they’re infantilising her.

Because she tries so hard to be seen as equal to others, she hates asking for help since she sees it as a weakness on her part.

She’s roommates with Lucia. She thinks Lucia is irritating, especially when she’s using incense. She’d consider Lucia her closest companion.

Hear me out. It's the "I don't like to share." Val has made it v clear she doesn't like the thought of sharing mc with Hana and clear bc of her own fears and anxiety surrounding her relationship with mc who remembers nothing about their life together.

and the "what about antionette?" "It's different I don't have feelings for her." Hana feels like the antionette to val bc, and these are just my thoughts from reading, we can see that val does care for Hana to some degree but never to the degree that she does with mc. Or maybe she does and just hides it to keep from getting attached like she was with mc and keeping Hana safe from being another one of the councils victims 🤔

And lastly the "that's bc you TOOK my life" is really getting my brain going. Especially since we see mc begin to question whether or not she wanted this life. Like, the potential behind it is putting me through the wall rn

Anyways you don't have to respond to any of this I just wanted to yap and share these thoughts bc BOY does blood choke get me thinking

hehehe yes i do think Valentina can be quite similar to Lestat in some aspects, particularly with her relationship with mc.

and you're right, she does care about Hana... in her own fucked up way. she keeps her more at a distance than she ever did mc because of that loss, which she is still mourning (even now with the mc back. she's not the mc she remembers) and she just was never able to open herself up completely to Hana. Valentina has treated both Hana and the mc terribly in the past (and the mc, at least, treated her just as bad, too, while Hana more or less just took it silently). she does care about Hana, but with the mc-shaped hole in her chest, she isn't sure how to express it, and now that the mc is back, she feels conflicted about her feelings & wants to show her devotion solely to the mc. and obviously she will get jealous of Hana (or Clear) because unless the mc brings it up, she won't share. exactly because of her anxieties (the loss of memories and how that may lead to mc choosing someone else completely) and she's actually fearful that the mc may judge her or be angry herself about Valentina's relationship with Hana (the mc was a jealous person in her past life). obviously their relationship was never Perfect, but Valentina is definitely being crueler to Hana than she ever has been before, almost like she's "showing off" for the mc, and even trying to drive Hana away. (you can potentially call her out on this in the next chapter)

and because of this Hana is realizing that even though she took the abuse and was always there for Valentina, it doesn't matter; mc is back and that's all Valentina cares about. (even if it's not necessarily 100% true-- to Hana, all she feels is that she's being discarded). that's what prompts her confrontation/conversation with the mc in ch3.

going forward there's a chance for this to change, depending on how the mc approaches the two. even if you're not romancing Hana in the poly there are still opportunities to include her (or exclude her, if you want. you can explore that route, too) and with the mc back, Valentina can potentially open herself up more to Hana than she was able to before, platonically or romantically, with mc's urging.

honestly i feel that Hana was more directly inspired by aspects of Claudia's character than Valentina with Lestat (they just happen to be similarly obsessed with mc/Louis respectively). and while i don't necessarily like to say one choice is "bad" i will say being cruel to Hana does have consequences. but i'm still writing it because i want that to be an option to explore specifically with Hana's character, and i don't necessarily want it to feel like a punishment to the player, but this game isn't exactly a feel-good game, and i do plan to make it hurt. lol

and as for your last point... yes it IS interesting. we'll probably never know if the mc was really consenting at that time (can any human really consent when eternal life is beyond their scope of understanding?) and it just adds another fuzzy layer to the messy onion that is her relationship with Valentina.

If you have time I remember seeing Trent do an interview I can’t remember with who and he said “absolutely pineapple belongs on pizza” but like imagine he had an Italian girlfriend and he makes her go on a rant about how terrible it is and he betrayed her for even thinking that and mid rant she might even switch to speaking in Italian and this also happening in front of the boys as well and they are cracking up (hope this isn’t to much apologies 😬😂)

“Baby-“

“No! I don’t even want to talk to you anymore!”

“What the hell is going on?” Curtis had just came out of the bathroom when he heard yours and Trent’s voice arguing with each other.

He was getting worried, but he could also hear the boys laughing loudly in the living room. So he wasn’t really sure what to think.

Mo shrugged his shoulders, a confusing smile on his lips, “I think they are fighting about, pizza?”

Curtis titled his head to the side, “Huh?”

“You betrayed me. Pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza!”

Curtis nodded his head finally understanding the situation, “Ohhh, I see.” he chuckled.

The boys’ eyes all widen when they heard you switch to speak in your native language. Robbo already pulling out his phone and searching for his google translator. They were all very invested in this.

Trent was looking at you with a smirk, eyes all hodded and you hated how hot looked. “Don’t look at me like that, I know what you’re doing!”

He shrugged his shoulders, a deep laugh vibrating through his chest, “Don’t know what you’re talking about sweetheart.” he did a once over of you, taking you in from head to toe.

Your whole body became warm, “I’m not going to forget about this Trent.”

“But-“

“Nope.”

I'm catching up on the last 4 episodes of HOTE (I am always waiting for @isaksbestpillow's subs 'cause this story is too precious to have it be misinterpreted by bad Gaga subtitles).

I am so fascinated by both of the characters. They're so traumatized and yet there's this hint of hope that can be built upon. They're trying to find something healthy among all the cruelty of their life. Their relationship is at times incredibly toxic and yet it is the best thing that happened to either of them. They're so desperately trying to cling to the bit of good that's there. I do not know whether it will end well but I am fascinated by the characters and the story being constructed here.
