Hey, I’m both indian and english and identify as this and (light skin) brown. I’ve struggled with my identity for SO long, and still am. I just don’t know where I fit in especially as a half asian (I hate the term half... you can’t be half indian, sure half brown but half indian??????? Makes zero sense to me I’m both I’m just light brown) How do you deal with this? Like I’m so self conscious especially currently as race is such a large topic as of current.

hey if you’d rather not say half this and half that then don’t. i’m just learning this myself. i now say that i’m 100% this, 100% that, etc. and if people are like “y0u cAnT bE 200%” and give you issues, keep it moving.

you are what you are. you can only define that for yourself. some simply see it as being one part mom and one part dad. that’s fine. some don’t. like in relationships, you are a whole looking for another whole person, not a half. after all, no matter who we date, it’s going to be an interracial relationship. we’re like yins and yangs. life is a balancing act and is more fulfilling when we embrace our dualities. we scare people because we represent so many things by ourselves, just being ourselves.

Naomi Osaka is a #mixedrace professional tennis player who represents Japan. Shes ranked No. 1 & is the first #Asian player to hold the top ranking in singles. Shes a 3 time Grand Slam singles champion & reigning champion at the US Open. She has 6 WTA titles & won her first 2 Grand Slam singles titles back-to-back making her the first player to do so since Jennifer Capriati in 2001. She was born in Osaka, Japan. Her mom is from Hokkaido, her dad is from Haiti. She has an older sister, Mari. They both kept their mothers name due to the Japanese Family Registration Law. Their parents met in Hokkaido & dated in secret. In Japan, she is referred to as a #hāfu, meaning #halfJapanese. But her #Japanese grandparents didnt accept her parents relationship so her parents moved from Hokkaido to Osaka, where she & her sister were born. As a result, her mother was separated from her family for nearly 15 years but have since reunited. Naomi identifies as #mixed. “My dads #Haitian, so I grew up in a Haitian household in New York & lived with my grandma; my moms Japanese & I grew up with the Japanese culture too so I don’t necessarily feel like I’m American. I wouldn’t know what that feels like. I love everything about Japanese & Haitian culture. If you’ve ever met a Haitian person, they are really positive & if you’re friends with them, then they will do anything for you. Thats a really good trait. Shes considered the #LebronJames of tennis in Japan & pushes Japans expectations of what it means to be Japanese.
