#Repost @barackobama ・・・ This was back in 2011, when I was visiting the tiny town of Moneygall, the place where my great-great-great grandfather, a shoemaker named Falmouth Kearney, lived his early life. I marveled as I walked around on the same old floorboards that he did, then I had the privilege to address the people of Ireland on College Green. For me, this photo pretty much sums up their joyful spirit; a warmth and generosity that stay with me to this day. Happy St. Patrick’s Day—on this day, it’ll always be O’Bama. #StPatricksDay #mixedboys #obama https://www.instagram.com/p/BvHyw5Ll89M/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=12ezjedzy3pry

St. Patty's day
Shoutout to the non white-passing mixed folk of Irish descent who might face a day full of identity erasure!
From a Japanese Scots-Irish Girl (who’s settling with green because she can’t find anything orange to wear)

We're celebrating @meghan & her return to instagram & @netflix this month as our #newprofilepic!
Rachel Meghan Markle was born on August 4, 1981, in Canoga Park, LA, California. She identifies as #mixedrace; "My dad is #white & my mom is #AfricanAmerican. I'm half #Black & half White." Her parents – the former makeup artist Doria Ragland (born 1956) & Thomas Markle Sr. (born 1944), a television lighting director & director of photography– separated when she was 2 years old & divorced 4 years later.
She has a close relationship with her mother. Until age 9, both parents contributed to raising her; then, her father was left in charge of caring for her (while her mother pursued a career) so Meghan lived with him full-time before attending university at age 18. Markle Sr. worked as a director of photography & lighting for General Hospital & Married... with Children, & Meghan occasionally visited the set as a child.
She attended Hollywood Little Red Schoolhouse & at age 11, she & her classmates wrote to Procter & Gamble to gender-neutralize a dishwashing soap commercial on national television & was featured on Nickelodeon. In 1999, she was admitted to Northwestern University (NU) where she joined Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. In 2003, she earned her bachelor's with a double major in theater & international studies from Northwestern's School of Communication.
She had some difficulty getting roles early in her career due to being "ethnically ambiguous" because "I wasn't black enough for the black roles & I wasn't white enough for the white ones." Her first on-screen appearance was a small role as a nurse on the daytime soap opera General Hospital, a show for which her father served as a lighting director. She had small guest roles on Century City (2004), The War at Home (2006), CSI: NY (2006), between 2006 & 2007, she worked as a "briefcase girl" on 34 episodes of the game show Deal or No Deal, Fringe (2008). She appeared in small roles in the films Get Him to the Greek, Remember Me, The Candidate & Horrible Bosses. She got her big break in July 2011 when she joined the cast of Suits.
In 2016, Meghan met Harry & the rest is truly history! 🇺🇸🇬🇧

February 2025's #newprofilepic winner is @kalikaroseart & for the first time an artist's work is the one being featured! 🖼️
Here's her artist statement: "What Are You?” is a deeply personal self-portrait that confronts my experience of #growingupbiracial. The textured black paint forming the question “What are you?” mirrors the inquiry that has shaped much of my identity—one that is as dehumanizing as it is dismissive. In this painting, my hand covers my mouth, symbolizing the silence I felt forced into, unable to claim belonging in any racial group. This work encapsulates the isolation, identity confusion & alienation I experienced as someone who has faced rejection from both Black & White communities. It reflects the unspoken reality of being caught between identities, navigating a world that demands definition yet offers no space for complexity. The muted tones & the physical act of silencing serve as a visual narrative of feeling unheard & unseen."
“What Are You?” is more than a recounting of my personal pain—it is an act of reclamation. By putting my story onto the canvas, I aim to break the silence that has long surrounded my identity & invite dialogue about race, belonging & the spaces in between. This painting is a declaration of presence & a reminder that identity is not defined by the limitations others impose."
My website is kalikaroseart.com. I’m mixed with #Black & #White.
#Beingmixed has given me the gift of perspective. Straddling different worlds has taught me to see beyond labels, stereotypes & boundaries. It’s given me a unique ability to understand people from all walks of life, to see beauty in differences & to love without limitation. I’ve learned to embrace complexity, celebrate diversity & value authenticity. My identity isn’t confined to 1 box—it’s a rich tapestry woven from many threads, each offering me a new lens through which to see the world. What I love most is how being mixed has made me truly open-minded. It’s opened my heart to everyone, showing me that we all carry stories worth hearing & lives worth loving. My experiences have shaped me into someone who thrives in connection, understanding & empathy—that is a gift I wouldn’t trade for anything. 🏴🏳️🇺🇸

so a few years ago, around the time that solange’s seat at the table album came out, i sat down (virtually) with @mixedpodcast. having a seat at the table speaks a lot to some mixed people, especially the lunch table in school. most kids have issues with having someone to sit with, while we have on top of that have issues with feeling we had no place in the cafeteria at all.
what inspired this post was my version. i was a loner, the few friends i did have didn’t have the same lunch period as me so i literally had no one to sit with. i didn’t want people seeing me sitting alone but i also didn’t want to be turned down if i asked.
im standing there, nervous, where do i go? who do i belong with? i decided to sit next to people that i had a class or two with and go from there. it came down to two tables, the black girls or the white girls. all just acquaintances. if i sat with the black girls would they let me? but some were friends with the ones who bullied me so i wasn’t sure what they thought of me or whose side they were on…at the white table, another girl sat down with them. her name was jennifer & she lived in the same neighborhood as me but we weren’t close. but i knew what side she was on so i felt that was the logical choice. i knew her better out of everyone. i glanced at the other table one more time & noticed a couple girls were staring, probably because i was the only one in the middle of the room standing up. i had to move quick lol. it took forever it felt & then i noticed they had no empty chairs once i arrived. uh oh, but finally i asked hey do you mind if i sit with you? jennifer & all the girls said yes, smiled & scooched over to give me space.
this may seem silly to some but this was a very hard moment for me. one i’ll never forget. i turn around to find a empty chair & notice the two girls whispering to each other, looking my way & making that look im used to seeing. disapproval. my heart dropped. i couldn’t eat i felt i made the wrong choice but jennifer & the girls welcomed me & that’s all i wanted.
anyone else have this experience? vent below👇 & know i feel your teenaged angst ♥️#mixedgirlproblems (at The Lunch Table) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKHm6lhFi-q/?igshid=1ii05xcsnogu0

Growing up Latine American: Hispanic/Latine Heritage Month
(DISCLAIMER: I use the term Latine as a gender neutral term, not Latinx. Part of this is because it can actually be said in Spanish and part of it is just that it’s how identify as a nonbinary person :) )
As I’m sure most of you know, it is Hispanic Heritage Month. There’s controversy about whether it should be Latine Heritage month or not, but honestly, I am not here to argue about that. I prefer to call it Latine Heritage Month.
With it being our heritage month, I’ve had a lot on my mind regarding my identity as a Mexican American. that I think may ring true for a lot of others as well.

Congratulations to @manalochelsea! Chelsea makes history as the first #Black & #Filipino-American representative of the #Philippines for Miss Universe! 👑
Following the theme of "Love For All," delegates shared their thoughts on the kind of love that makes a woman both inspiring & transformational. ❤️‍🔥
Chelsea Anne Manalo — born on October 14, 1999 under the astrological sign Libra — is 25 years old. ♎️
She is a proud #FilipinoAmerican Bulakenya who was raised in Meycauayan City, Bulacan. She was born in the Philippines to a Black American father & a Filipino mother, who separated in 2000. Following the divorce, her mother remarried a Filipino man. In 2004, she reconnected with her biological father in the United States, where she completed her grade school education. 🇵🇭🇺🇸
Before graduating from a tourism college, she expressed deep passion for music, dancing & modeling. Her journey into the world of beauty pageants began during high school. 🎵💃🏿💋
Chelsea is a professional model who has been gracing the cover of magazines, starring in commercials & print ads since 2013 at the age of 14. In 2021, she became a @benchbodyph endorser. 👠
Outside of high school, Chelsea's major debut into the pageant scene was through #MissWorldPhilippines 2017, she competed against 34 other candidates & made the Top 15. 💅🏿
On February 17, 2024, she was officially appointed Miss Universe Bulacan 2024. She also earned the title "Bulacan Barbie." Her advocacy reads: "Championing Indigenous Youth Education." Her advocacy aims to provide opportunities for #indigenousyouth to access quality education & unlock their full potential. 👯‍♀️
"As a woman of color, I've always faced challenges in my life. I was told that beauty has standards actually. But I have listened to always believe in my mother, to always believe in yourself, uphold the vows that you have in yourself. Because of that, I am already influencing a lot of women who are facing me right now as a transformational woman. I have here 52 other delegates with me who have helped me become the woman I am today." 👸🏾
As fellow #BlackFilipina #Saweetie would say: "IKDR!" Congratulations Chelsea! 🏴🇵🇭🇺🇸

Today years old learning that #KerryWashington is in fact mixed race!
Kerry Marisa Washington is an #American actress, producer, and director. She gained wide public recognition for starring as crisis management expert Olivia Pope in the ABC drama series Scandal. For her role, she was twice nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and once for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Drama. Time magazine included her in its Time 100 list of most influential people in 2014. In 2018, Forbes named her the 8th highest-paid tv actress. She’s won a Primetime Emmy Award and 5 NAACP Image Awards, including The President’s Award. President Obama is a huge fan of hers.
She was born in the Bronx. Her father is #Black and her mother is mixed. “My mom comes from a #mixedrace background but from #Jamaica, so she is partly #English and #Scottish and #NativeAmerican, but also descended from #African slaves in the Caribbean. My dad’s family is four or five generations Brooklyn-based, but before that from South Carolina, and we are not sure which members of his family were slaves and which were free blacks.” Former US Secretary of State Colin Powell is her cousin.
“I was really lucky to be raised by a woman who taught me that what was inside was much more important than what was outside.”
Another fun fact is that she can dance. "I’ve been taking dance for a long time, since I was a little girl. I had this very inspiring teacher named Larry Maldonado, for anybody from my neighborhood in the Bronx, he was our role model. And he had an awesome substitute teacher named Jennifer, who would sometimes step in and teach. But, then she left to move to Los Angeles and be on the TV show In Living Color. So, yes, I learned to dance from JLo!” 🇯🇲🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇺🇸 #mixedgirl #til https://www.instagram.com/p/CVJY2VOlWyf/?utm_medium=tumblr
