Today on "no one could have prepared me for being a witch and a dragon"
for those seeing this somewhere other than the otherkin tag, I am a dragonkin witch and I work with Hades.
Me: "Idk I've always pictured Persephone as having [hair color]." (I get the DISTINCT vibe from Hades that I'm very wrong, to the point of it being comical)
My mom: "I.... I just got a very distinct 'Fucking dragons, colorblind' from him. Like dragons are weird about colors. Like.... maybe they don't see the same color spectrum or something?"
Me, gasping: "WAIT LIKE SHRIMP COLORS??????? Maybe dragons see shrimp colors!"
After some debate, it was essentially confirmed- although my mom burst into laughter after she asked why Hades was implying my face blindness was also dragon-related and got back "I DON'T KNOW I'M NOT A DRAGON."
Bonus tidbit-
Me, softly after getting really strong vibes of excitement after marshmallows are mentioned: "Do you.... want... a marshmallow, Hades????" (for context, his tastes are a lot more refined so this was WILDLY out of the blue. He is very salty that this has given us such a specific view of him, since "what, do you think I'm ABOVE a marshmallow??????")

Every day I'm alive is a devotional act of amazing strength šŸ’Ŗ
My best devotional act for all the deities I work with is to stay alive and well. I promised that I would heal and move onwards. This is just how simple and joyful devotional acts are.
I am still alive in a good state and healing after depression.
This is the best devotional act I could've done.

When you step into sunlight, you honor Apollo. When you admire the moon, you honor Artemis. When you admire cloud shapes, you honor Hera. When you smell petrichor, you honor Zeus. When you laugh at a joke, you honor Hermes. When your body twitches to dance at a particularly upbeat music, you honor Dinoysus. When you enjoy the first bite of your breakfast, you honor Demeter. When you choose your peace over any conflict, you honor Athena. When you warm yourself up by sheltering yourself in blanket, you honor Hestia. When you listen to Ocean sounds, you honor Poseidon. When you smell flowers, you honor Persephone. When you admire the coolness of first day of Autumn, you honor Hades. When you wear your favourite jewellery, you honor Hephaestus. When you smile, you honor Aphrodite. When you exercise, you honor Ares. When you light a torch in a dark room, you honor Hekate.
Your body is a shrine to Gods, your being an act of devotion for them. You, by yourself, are enough for them.

HOW THE MOON SIGNS ACT WHEN THEY LOVE YOU pt. 2
Tumblr media
cancer moon/4h
ultimate cuddlers!!!
this is really biased and feral but i feel like people are here for the tea??
although i think they can be extremely sweet and loving, my opinion remains the same: not all cancers are to be trusted. i think itā€™s heavenly to be in their good graces, but i also feel like the closer you get, the harder it becomes to be genuinely accepted by them. that is, of course, if they donā€™t see you as fully deserving of their love. i have yet to be in a relationship with a cancer sun/moon that gives me their full trust. i always feel like theyā€™re frugal with their love towards me. their intentions seem a little hmmm unclear? like they will not speak up about something they donā€™t accept about you but slowly, in their hearts, they turn away from you??
i am of course speaking solely from my experience. moon is at home in cancer, embodying the archetype of Demeter ā€” the goddess of fertility. when Demeter gets back her beloved daughter, she blesses the whole earth with months of fertile spring. however, when things donā€™t go her way and Persephone returns to Hades, everyone has to suffer from her sadness during the barren winter months.
if they perceive you as a really worthy partner, they will spoil you with affection. nevertheless, iā€™d rather not get the short end of their stick!
leo moon/5h
leos have this innate need to feel proud of their lovers. potential partners should possess the it factor about them, da special sparkle. this also applies to their friends! it makes sense, as the sun in them shines so bright, they want their people to illuminate as brightly.
i believe their standards are even higher than virgosā€™ or capricornsā€™ and itā€™s not talked about enough! leos will not engage with just anyone! they have this splash of royalty in them, they can sense a weak self-esteem from a mile.
they want to be able to talk and talk and boast about you. and they want you to make them feel like the only girl in the world.
but hereā€™s the clue. if they feel like youā€™ve become too boring, their loyalty wonā€™t let them break up with you but slowly the flames stop burning. iā€™ve seen this happen in a leo moon-taurus moon relationship which makes sense, as taurus prefers persistent, daily acts of service that build a steady, reliable love over time, whereas leo lives for the drama, for the promise of an eternal love, big displays of affection, achieving greatness together.
iā€™m so sorry if this sounds harsh. i find leo placements to be lovely, all the people i hold dearest to me have them (itā€™s my descendant sign!). theyā€™re so so open and warm, nearly everything is easy with them.
scorpio moon/8h
i need a scorpio moon friend right. now.
they seem like small, adorable babies who will give up everything for the true, devoted love. their feelingsā€™ depth knows no bounds. extremely loyal, obsessive in the best way possible, what they seek in the other person is a safe haven to hide all their emotions in.
theyā€™re portrayed as very secretive and closed off, even manipulative, but inside they are dying to show somebody their real self. because yeah, behind the darkness there is a small sleepy kitten i feel like.
also hereā€™s the thing: they didnā€™t choose the darkness, it chose them. their intensity is draining for you, but itā€™s them who have to deal with it non stop. their emotions are turbulent and itā€™s often hard to be peaceful, but if youā€™re willing to accept them as they are and share your own darkest vulnerabilities, theyā€™re yours forever.
Tumblr media
aquarius moon/11h
these natives are the best of friends that you could ever wish for! theyā€™re extremely invested in their friend groups, always making sure to initiate contact and check in. they need this as much as they need to breathe and eat! as we know, aquarius is traditionally ruled by saturn, so maybe thatā€™s why they act like glue, keeping their friendships alive, not letting the bonds fall apart as they often sadly do without proper nourishing!
in this situation though, a hierarchy is formed and, sorry to inform the hoes, you come after bros :((.
these guys can be so unpredictable with their feelings i guess thereā€™s no formula on how to get them. i would say befriend them first and then be eccentric enough to still spark the electric interest, the one that they seek in potential partners.
whatā€™s worth noting is the fact that aquarius is a fixed sign, so whatever their quirks may be, they ultimately are loyal and devoted. they are a great paradox and even if they seem detached, they pay attention to their surroundings. whom they need is a persona as big as theirs, someone that shares their passion for the world and everything it has to offer, preferably concerned with big ideas and humanitarian causes. they notice magic in the mundane so their spouse needs to be special as well! when they find you and you find them, you become their person.
the bond they create with lovers might seem unusual to those of more traditional views. aquarius natives need their time away and a lot of solo time to detach and recharge. however, in turn, they will blow your mind with extraordinary thoughts and you will never look at life the same!

VEILING
Veiling is a practice with both ancient and modern roots. While veiling was not universally practiced by all ancient Greeks, it held symbolic and practical significance in certain contexts, particularly in relation to specific Gods, rituals, and social customs.
As someone who practices veiling more often than not, I wanted to discuss the history behind it as pertaining to the religion, and show you some examples of different veils you can use.
Historical Veiling in Ancient Greece
In ancient Greece, veiling was not just religious but was linked to societal norms regarding gender, respect, and propriety. It was common for women to veil their heads when outside the home, though men could veil as well.
Veiling also had a ritual function in religious ceremonies. Priestesses often veiled during rituals or temple service as a sign of reverence and purity when approaching the Gods. In some festivals, such as those dedicated to Demeter or Hestia, veiling was particularly significant, reflecting the Goddessesā€™ connection to the home, modesty, and fertility.
In modern times, we can veil during rituals or daily life as a way to express reverence for the Gods, especially when in prayer.
The reasons for veiling vary among practitioners and may include:
1. Honoring Tradition: Veiling can be used as a way of honoring ancient customs, particularly when engaging in things regarding Hestia, Demeter, or Persephone.
2. Ritual Purity: Veiling can be used as a means of maintaining ritual purity, particularly when one wishes to separate the mundane from the sacred.
3. Modesty and Respect: Veiling can also reflect a personal choice to express modesty or respect, particularly in the presence of deities or during rituals dedicated to chthonic Gods.
Different Forms of Veiling in Modern Practice
Full Veil (Himation-style): The veil covers the head and sometimes drapes over the shoulders.
Tumblr media
Partial Veiling: This veil covers just the top of the head or wearing a scarf. This can be a less formal or everyday expression of devotion, often used in daily prayers or minor rituals.
Tumblr media
Face Veiling: In some instances, particularly in rituals involving the chthonic deities, one may veil their faces in addition to their heads. Sometimes known as Tegidion, This is done to show humility or to protect oneself spiritually when interacting with Gods associated with death or the afterlife, like Hades or Persephone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
God-Specific Veiling
Veiling can be done as a specific act of devotion to certain Gods. For example:
- Hestia (Goddess of the hearth)
- Demeter and Persephone (Goddesses of agriculture and the underworld)
- Hekate (Goddess of witchcraft, crossroads, and the underworld)
As always, I can discuss this more in depth if anyone would like :)

Priest & Priestesshood
The terms priest, priestess, high priest, and high priestess get tossed around a lot, especially in the hellenism community. But oftentimes, there is very little context or explanation on what it means to be the priest/priestess of a god. I think understanding these terms, their duties, and some very frequent misconceptions are once again an important part of this cared for religion. Because despite what many may tend to treat it as hellenic polytheism is a religion. Not one I would consider organized religion today, but a very real and alive religion and should be treated as such.
Naturally this isn't to say you have to strictly adhere to hellenism, your practice and worships will always be your own. But it is an important thing to remember when dealing with the concept of priest/priestesshood.
As usual, this is my own understanding and research of the topic, always be sure to do your own when needed and double check sources! Additionally, from here out I will exclusively be saying "priestess" and "priestesshood" as I am studying and training to be one, but for the most part (excluding the history) it will also apply to priest/priesthood within the modern day religion.
Tumblr media
Ancient Priestesshood
When we talk about modern-day hellenic priestesshood, we can't entirely look at it in its original form in ancient Greece. Back then, priestesshood was a temple station that could be bought by well-off families or something young girls were born into. Girls as young as 7 could be taken into temples on the path of priestesshood, and as they grew older, their ranks/titles within the temple would grow with them. With that said, for the most part priestesses bought their way into the station, having come from financially well-off families. Priestesshood could be seen as an "escape" from the patriarchal household society held at the time, often giving these women significant importance above men. Although how accurate this is, we don't fully know, as young girls would also have been born into a family and encouraged to perform priestly activities at a young age.
These were in the days when our temples stood high and mighty, and the unfortunate truth is that's simply not the case today. That said, hellenism has survived the ages, and we've adopted modern ways of worship, and therefore, priestesshood should be looked at in a similar fashion.
Tumblr media
Priestesshood Today
As we today have learned to adapt our worships to modern times while keeping the essence of the gods' importance, priestesshood today has also adapted. While the grand temples from those days are mostly in ruins, we have found ways to construct them in online spaces, and when able, in real life, planned services and congregation. So what does a priestess of a hellenic god do today?
To become the priestess of a god is something I would consider a "full-time devotee." Someone whose life is tasked with acts of devotion in that god's name and honor. A priestess of Aphrodite might become one of her sacred whores or a matchmaker, a priestess of Demeter may live rurally and grow crops to provide and offer, a priestess of Hades may become a death worker (PLEASE heavily research that topic itself if it is a path you choose as not everyone can become one and it is considered a closed practice by degrees) or a baneful worker, etc. Regardless of the gods, a priestess would typically perform duties that align with that god's attributes and associations. It is a dedication to serving that god and performing acts in their name and honor. Priestesshood is a commitment to that god.
Tumblr media
How Do You Become a Priestess?
This can be a difficult question to answer. As stated before, priestesshood could be bought or be something you were raised into. However, in our modern day, that's no longer the case. From what I've researched, priestesshood can be obtained through two methods.
Mentorship under an established priestess
An invitation from the god
Mentorship would entail finding a god's priestess and them taking you under their wing and training you personally. Many times, the mentorship will be something paid for, but will give you someone experienced and a solid learning foundation in your future training. Naturally, you should vet the priestess beforehand and ensure they are someone trustworthy and knowledgeable. There are many people who will falsely claim priestesshood, so ensure this is someone truthful in their dedication.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, someone can personally be invited by their god into priestesshood. This in itself can hold a myriad of difficulties, such as initial uncertainty. A lot of divination or fact-checking would be required as well as checking in with that god themself. Another difficulty would be the need to do training on your own. There is no step by step guide for priestesshood for each and every god, and the chances of finding a genuine one for your deity is slim. Training solo would mean researching and practicing on your own, with a great deal of trial and error and constant check-ins with your god.
My path to priestesshood started from an invitation from Hermes, and it took a lot of communication and readings with him to gain true confidence in the decision. It can be confusing, and navigating the path alone can be incredibly scary and difficult.
Tumblr media
Can You Become a High Priestess?
A high priestess is a vastly higher title than a normal priestess, and one that, in my opinion, very few can hold. A high priestess's entire life would be spent dedicating themself to that god, continuously in prayer and doing their duties. This is a 24/7 commitment and a lot of the time entails leaving your worldy self behind (including families, friends, ect) to live in dedication for their god. They channel the very essence of their god.
A high priestess is far more than a title, it is the pinnacle of dedication to a god and is not an easy title to obtain. A high priestess's life would entirely belong to that god, and they would spend every possible moment of it channeling the essence of that god through prayers and worship and dedicating acts for the community they have.
It is not a role just anyone can take on, and I highly advise much deeper research into the understanding of that role and what it means/entails.
Tumblr media
Common Questions and Misconceptions
So a priestess is just a normal follower?
Not particularly. A priestess would be required to do their devotional duties that align with their station. Priestesses would be leaders, conducting rituals and serving as a conduit for their god. There is a difference between devotional acts and devotional duties, the fine line being whether these devotions were optional or not.
I've only been working with [insert god] for a short amount of time, can I become a priestess?
The gods don't care about how long you've been in service to them. What they look at is devotion and knowledge. So long as you're willing to put in the work and truly dedicated yourself to the role, it doesn't matter if you've been a devotee for 5 years or 5 days. That said, please make sure this is a path you truly wish to walk. It is a very serious role, and the gods won't take kindly to it being treated like a game or an experiment.
I'm still a minor, can I become a priestess?
While in ancient times priestesses would be trained as young as 7, they wouldn't be considered priestesses until they reached the marriage age of 14. So by account, yes, absolutely. But I think it's important to spend your younger years truly studying and gaining knowledge and experience with your god and being certain that this is a path you wish to take. Don't be swayed by social media and other's recounting. Take your time.
But [insert creator] said they're a high priestess!
Are they always on social media? Are they constantly posting? Do they have a large online presence that they manage on their own? Then chances are, they're not a high priestess. A high priestess has no time for these things unless someone else is managing it for them to show what the life of a high priestess is like.
Would a high priestess be an oracle?
While a high priestess can be an oracle and vice versa, the two are not inherently synonymous. I'll make a long post on oracles once I've researched them more but from my current understanding, yes and no.

i saw someone talking about mundane devotion (i forgot their tumblr, sorry) but it's so true. devotional acts don't have to be something huge, and neither do offerings.
something i like to do for a devotion for hades is using a mint toothpaste, or washing my hair with a mint shampoo & conditioner. devotion doesn't need to look like doing a huge ritual, it can look like anything you do that reminds you of them! if you do something in their honor, that's what truly counts. this is especially good to remember if you're still in the broom closet but want to still worship or work with a deity.
