Seojin glances behind him right before the live starts. He takes all of it in. Happy birthday strewn across the wall in silver balloon letters; there's another in the shape of an electric guitar and one of an infuriatingly cute tiger. All of it is stuck above black and crimson streamers that shimmer when he moves too quickly. Surreal. He checks the date on his watch. December 1st. Really?

When Seojin joined the company for his first go around, he was 17 years old — painfully naive and reckless. Then again at 21, matured by his stint in the military. Now he is 26. Saying it out loud makes saliva build on his tongue and the words stick. He can hardly believe it. And aside from some brief mocking for debuting so late, Seojin is here — a member of V&A. ( Even if being an idol was the last thing he wanted to do. )

When the live starts and people rush in, he is given a separate phone to monitor the chat. It startles him — how fast the words go by — and he glances up at the camera with furrowed brows and intentionally befuddled expression. "Everyone~" He starts out, sing-songing the word like a certain famous meme. "I missed you so much. Did you miss me, too?" Grinning, he watches the reactions, unable to stop himself from chuckling at himself. Is this what a few hours of sleep for the past week will do to a man?

"Okay. Send me some questions. I'll answer them for the first part. Then, I have a surprise for you all."

He props the phone up and crosses his arms as he watches the chat slow down before a flood of questions come in. He scrolls through and picks a few that stick out to him.

"'Can you rank the songs from the album?' I guess I can since it's out now. Super, Breathing and Boom Boom Bass... Those three are top, no question. I even got a little jealous of Agito," he pauses and glances down. "What about the rest? Okay, alright. Then Chill, just because Yushin and Jiho wrote it... Dear Eclipse, 2x, God of Music even if it's fresh, I liked working on the song... then last is Jackpot and Lovers or Enemies. They're not... really my style. Especially the last one." And that's all he would say about that; the last thing he needed is the company on his neck already.

"'What aspirations (personal or for V&A) do you have for the next year?' Oh, there's another similar that says 'what’s something you want to achieve in your career in the new year?' I'll answer them both," his head tilts as he thinks. "My goal is to write more songs. I'd like to see how much I can do for other groups, too, but mostly I wanna have more input with the songs we get and write more songs with the guys. I think it'll be fun. Also, my goal is to sing for an OST... do a band performance. Go on as many variety shows as humanly possible. I'm feeling really ambitious, guys."

"'What was your favorite performance to watch at this year's MAMA?'" he smirks and laughs to himself. "Well, because I know a certain someone was really jealous and my phone got flooded after it happened... it had to be G-Dragon's. When the Big Bang songs started, everyone lost their minds and didnt care about image so much to have to fun. It was like a concert instead of an end of year show. I liked it a lot."

"'Please rank the V&A members according to who will cry if you go to a haunted house. Happy birthday, Seojin-nim!' Thank you, taerigrammed-nim," he pauses to think about the ranking and laughs. "Well, obviously least likely to cry is me. Akio would just be excited. Haru and Jiho would be fine. Minjun and Yoojoon, I'm not sure but they would prolly be chill. I think Junkyu would get jumpy and... honestly, it would make me wanna scare him. Then, Yeonwoo... I think he gets scared but would try to be nice to the ghosts. Yushin would defnitely cry on my shoulder and cling to me, for sure though... Are you watching? I know you would!"

"Okay, guys. That's it for now... Wish I had more time. I was getting immersed. It felt nice to just play guitar and sing. Maybe I'll do a longer live doing the same thing. If the company lets me!" His eyes boldly meet with his manager's from across the room. He grins. "Alright. I'll see you all soon, right? Listen to the album well. Or else!"

"'Aeygo please?'" Seojin pauses, leaning back in his chair. "No. 'Will you marry me?' No, I'm married to Yeonwoo. And don't even think of asking him." He answers a few more questions in this manner, giving cheeky responses he is well aware the fans will find amusing and endearing enough to clip on social media.

Eventually, the manager steps in with a guitar for Seojin. It is red and white, a Fender, much like his representative emoji. He glances up at Kyuhwan from his seat. "Hyung?" he waits until he stops and turns back before grinning. "Thank you~" and then laughs at the man's reaction to his sudden affection.

"Alright. Now, the moment I've been waiting for! Give me requests. I'll try to sing or play something for you... If I don't know it well... Well, I'll make it work," he drapes the guitar over his lap and tests the strings to make sure they're in tune. "It's on an amp, so tell me if it's too loud."

While the requests start to flood in, Seojin begins playing a riff and softly singing to a song that has him laughing just a few lines in. Something requested by his fellow group mate, Junkyu. Seojin assumed it to have been a joke when he asked him if he would cover Sex Bomb by Tom Jones. He'd never heard the song before but put in a bit of effort, stopping short of getting past the chorus before he strained his throat from laughter.

"I want the manager to choose two for me from the comments," he strums another song Akio mentioned off hand the other day, Kiseki by GReeeeN. Although his Japanese could use some obvious work, he managed to memorize some of it, mumbling the other parts he didn't know as well. He stops only when Kyuhwan hands him a selection that has Seojin surprised. "Hey... Fly by Epik High!? You want me to try rapping?"

Despite his complaint, he does put forth the effort just for the fan ( and his manager ), mumbling and playing his guitar most of the way through it. "Compliments only," he asserts when he finishes, looking for the next one. "The next one he picked is One Thing by One Direction. I don't actually know this song... but I will try just for you who picked it." And so he does... again, despite his limited knowledge of the song. He makes sure to "Sorry if it wasn't perfect. I'll ask for suggestions ahead of time next time so I can practice more of the songs you like."

"Hm, I saw someone say Cry for Love. Shin sunbaenim's song. Ah, you must have been at the cafe a couple years ago when I sang it, right? Or maybe not~ I'll sing it again but... in a cooler way this time." After singing the challenging song, he leans toward the phone to look at the chat. "Oh, Die With a Smile seems to be a popular choice. I do that one. I think it'll sound good with the guitar?" He allows himself to become immersed in the song, ending with a short, sentimental solo.

A bit too immersed, perhaps, as he doesn't seem to have noticed the manager slipping out of the room and coming back. "I should probably end it on something that's kinda cheery, right? Since it's winter and it snowed. First Snow?" But as he begins to play the opening part, the lights dim and an approaching flame drifts through the darkness. It all blurs together, the candles on the cake. It is their time to sing to him. He tries to fight his dropping smile. All of this. The chat messages, the words on the cake sent before him, the cheers he would hear in the next coming days. Something stings behind his eyes.

well part of me understands why he might be like that, and then part of me feels like he’s sometimes a little too dramatic. I’m not 100% caught up so I hope you’re referring to when he was completely against the two of them dating and did everything to prevent them from doing so. he clearly understands that junki is a really great person, he’s warm and sincere but then he’s also like... his best friend. he’s probably heard of his past stories with his ex-girlfriends, done some fucked up things with him, heard some fucked up things from him so why he was reluctant to let them date is justified. not to mention, junki himself was also pretty hesitant on dating her because he basically saw her grow up. when donggu chases seojin out to see what she’s doing, insists she bring her “boyfriends” over and stopped talking to and basically tried to cut off all relationships with the two of them was when it was slightly overboard. he was scared that in the scenario where they broke up he’d lose junki but obviously they have a stronger foundation than that. I guess seojin and junki should’ve been upfront about it early on too because if you truly liked each other you’d want donggu’s blessing even if it meant junki might get whipped lmaoooooo

Eu Hyo-min, an entrepreneur who built the Unification Church finances

Park Chong-Hwa: “I want to explain about Eu Hyo-min. He was another person who contributed to the development of the Unification Church. In the early years the economic circumstances were extremely difficult. At the time Eu Hyo-min had the idea of making and selling bromide photographs to sustain the lives of the members.

In addition, he invented an air rifle “which could use buckshot” (see Chapter 7). It was decided to build an economic foundation for the Unification Church by manufacturing and selling the gun. This gradually developed and the “Tong-il Industrial Co., Ltd.” was established. Kim In-chul was appointed as the representative director. Eu Hyo-min was only given the position of assembly manager. [Eu Hyo-min said he “was not eligible to hold a firearm manufacturing permit” because he had a criminal record following the Ewha University sex scandal of 1955 when he had been jailed.]

However, Eu Hyo-min, who was the most important contributor, was given only a thousand shares, and the patent for the invention of air gun was put in the name of Sun Myung Moon. After Eu Hyo-min left the job of manager to his successor, Baek Gu-pyeon, he was in charge of out-sourcing at the Yehwa (예화) air-gun factory at Eulji-no.

Eu Hyo-min had to submit all his receipts to the company for every single thing he spent, down to 30 won for a cup of tea. He was under serious surveillance, which must have been on Sun Myung Moon’s instructions. It may have been a plan in preparation for driving him out of the Unification Church at a later date, just as had happened to me.

Finally, Eu Hyo-min broke with the Unification Church and left in 1972.

After I, Pak Chong-hwa, left, Eu Hyo-min became the secretary to Sun Myung Moon. He was the second person after me to leave the church after having worked very hard like Moon’s shadow.

I, Pak Chong-hwa, was the very first secretary, and was betrayed by Sun Myung Moon in this way. Eu Hyo-min was the second secretary who left because his life became too difficult, and Song Do-wook, the third secretary, and Eu Hyo-won, who gave distinguished service to the church with his wisdom, have both died. It is thought-provoking to look at these facts and consider if this was the plan of God, or the plan of Sun Myung Moon.

The time from 1953, when I was with Sun Myung Moon, until I went to the Seojin mine in 1956 was when we faced the hardest time in the development of the Unification Church. Back then there were no relatives of Sun Myung Moon in the church organization. Later Moon Seong-kyun, Moon Yong-seon [and Moon Seung-ryong] came in, and as the economic foundation of the Unification Church grew, almost all of the management positions came to be held by relatives of Sun Myung Moon.

In fact, it is Sun Myung Moon himself who knows best that he himself is not the second coming messiah. I came to think that he was implementing a plan to secure his future life base by handing the assets of Unification Church to his relatives whom he could trust.

In MBC Every One ‘I’m Trot Singer,’ which was broadcast on the 12th, the second contest order of seven talented singers was decided.

Then Jang-gu, Park Seo-jin, appeared. Park Seojin chose Bangsil’s ‘first car’. Park Seo-jin, who met the arranger before the stage, said, “I wanted to feel like rock,” and began to practice the ensemble.

Park Seo-jin said, “I’m going to show off the performance of the jang performance. I danced twice and three times and it moved by itself.”
