Kurt Hummel has a shot at being Captain for the Slytherin Quidditch team if only he agrees to take Hufflepuff's star Keeper out of the picture before the first big game. Of course, what he doesn't know - and would if he'd only watch a film (*any* romantic film, really) - is that it's probably the worst idea anyone has ever had for way too many reasons.

And as luck would have it, Blaine Anderson has overcome many obstacles in his life, only to come out on top, but one he has never managed to get past...? His completely hopeless crush on Kurt Hummel.

in this essay i will explore how in a marauders x glee au, sue sylvester would be professor mcgonagall :)

both sue and mcgonagall are sharp-tongued, strong willed, passionate characters. i propose that mcgonagall and sue are the same character in (very) different fonts.

okay, so, the first time we are introduced to sue sylvester in glee, she is coaching the cheerios (‘you think this is hard? try being water boarded, that’s hard. you’re sloppy! sloppy babies!’). sue loves her cheerios. they are her whole life. she gets them to nationals i think 5 consecutive years in a row. she wants the cheerios to win.

now. who is another teacher who is deeply passionate for a school sport’s team, to the extent that she’s willing to waive a centuries’ old rule to allow an eleven year old boy to join the team because he’s good enough to help her team win? mcgonagall. look me in the eye and tell me that that is not something sue sylvester would do. you can’t. mcgonagall watches every game, she was on the quidditch team herself back in her school years, and she enables lee jordan’s commentary, despite its vulgarity. she wants gryffindor to win.

something else to note is that sue does not initially hate will sch*e or the glee club. like. at all. the only reason she interferes at first is because the glee club threatens her cheerios budget. that is, sue interferes when she is directly involved. sue then, after this threat, takes a disliking to wills and begins insulting him. (‘oh hey will, i thought i smelled failure’)

in the order of the phoenix, mcgonagall begins to have a (noticeable) disliking for umbridge when she sits in mcgonagall’s class and threatens her teaching credibility (and is thus directly involved). so she then insults umbridge (smth smth harry’s grades in dada have been good when taught by a ‘competent teacher’) and responds to harry yelling at umbridge with positive reinforcement (‘have a biscuit, potter’).

the comparison above demonstrates that sue and mcgonagall need a catalyst to spark their dislike of someone, and their catalysts and consequent actions are very similar.

there are definitely parallels between sue and mcgonagall. does mcgonagall go around pushing students down the stairs or destroying offices when she doesn’t get her way? not that we’ve seen. but she does, occasionally, offer sound advice. and so does sue! in her own way!

there’s that moment in season one with kurt, where he’s having an identity crisis, and in her own sue sylvester way, she almost gives good advice: ‘that’s the problem with your generation, you’re obsessed with labels. so you like show tunes! that doesn’t make you gay. it just means you’re awful. you know, there’s only one person in this world who can tell you what you are.’ ‘me.’ ‘no. me. sue sylvester.’ and up until the last bit, sue has a point!

and if you’re looking for a more serious argument about sue, may i direct your attention to the grilled cheesus episode. here, kurt’s, one of the glee kids, dad has a heart attack. kurt is atheist and asked the glee club to respect his beliefs and not pray for him and his dad through religious music in front of him. you’ll never guess what the glee club do (they disrespect kurt’s wishes repeatedly and even go into kurt’s dad’s hospital room to pray without asking kurt but i digress). and the teacher that gave kurt the opportunity to complain to the school faculty for the glee club imposing religion in a nondenominational school was sue. sue is showing kurt a duty of care where mr sch*e, emma pillsbury, and principal figgins, fail.

yes, sue saw it as an opportunity to attack the glee club, but she also has a poignant scene where she discusses her own relationship with faith. when talking to emma pillsbury, who attacks sue for getting kurt to complain about the unasked for religiousness, it’s sue that points out emma’s, and the glee kids’ hypocrisy.

sue: asking someone to believe in a fantasy, however comforting, isn’t a moral thing to do. it’s cruel

emma: if that’s what you believe then fine. just don’t go around (something along the lines of pushing it down other peoples throats)

sue: as long as you do the same. that boy could lose his father at any moment.

the glee kids make comments about kurt’s lack of faith & disrespect his lack of faith, and then get frustrated and upset when kurt asks them to stop praying at him. mercedes even asks kurt to go to her church with her. like. ???? (this episode is wild i urge you to watch it right now)

my point is, is this is the kind of behaviour we can expect to see from mcgonagall. in goblet of fire, she’s protective of harry and is one of the only people who don’t want to let him compete. ‘potter is a boy, not a piece of meat!’ it’s mcgonagall that helps harry get to dumbledore’s office when he has a nightmare about arthur weasley in ootp. it’s mcgonagall showing a duty of care where every other teacher fails.

also i feel like if mcgonagall were to wear muggle clothes it would be an adidas tracksuit

Throwing my two cents into the Kurt Hummel hogwarts house debate...

I’ve always treated the house one is sorted into as the house whos characteristics the child values the most. Hence Harry asking for Gryffindor (thus proving he valued bravery more) and Draco (who isn’t particularly cunning or ambitious) who values Slytherin as that is what he has always been told is supreme. And the most obvious example being Hermione with her literal quote in book one about how knowledge is not as valuable as bravery in her eyes.

Slytherin, my own house, is what for a long time I believed Kurt was. But then I started writing this post. Kurt is very ambitions and cunning, however his value on those traits? Very little. In fact I would go as far to say his values would place him in Hufflepuff before Slytherin. Kurt sees how Rachel and Santana (both absolutely Slytherin no arguments) treat others around them and doesn’t always agree or like it. When Blaine tells the warblers that Kurt will be the duet partner without audition Kurt immediately asks about others having a chance. No Slytherin would do that. Kurt may love Rachel but when he is fighting her it’s usually over her ambition going too far. In Audition he and Mercedes are horrified by how Rachel scares off sunshine. He doesn’t value the deviousness of her plan even to object to the content of it. Kurt hated how Sebastian acted and treated others around him (very unslytherin of him because us Slytherins can appreciate our enemies plans even when we hate them so much) and even refuses to take action with Santana.

Kurt is so so brave. He faces that school and everyone who has hurt him every day with determination. And he doesn’t just value bravery in others, he expects it. During prom Queen he expects Dave to use the opportunity to come out because that’s what he would have done. He never really understands that his level of bravery is not common. Until Blaine showed up he had trouble finding someone who would be “just as brave as you are” (Burt Hummel Duets). He stands up to authority (Britney/Brittany, Bad Reputation, and others) and is somewhat disappointed when others around him don’t do the same. Not to mention the chivalry demonstrated by letting Sebatian off the hook. If you look at most of the series he seems like a cut and dry Gryffindor.

However I acknowledge that no one is a cut and dry anything. Kurt is ambitious, but he refuses to even put his ambitions above his family (Wheels). I think Kurt would be a particularly tough placement for the hat. I could go even as far as to say a hatstall. You can legitimately make an argument for any of the houses. But I do think that “Better be... GRYFFINDOR!”

You requested asks and here’s one I argue passionately about my friends with: what Hogwarts house do you think Kurt would be sorted into? (Feel free time do other glee characters too!)

Ooh ok, so for me the obvious choices are Slytherin and Gryffindor. (As a Slytherin I’m tempted to bring him over to the not-so-dark-side and call it a day but i wont) 

I feel like he could be a minor hat stall, i mean he’s brave, but he’s also ambitious. (Since those are really the main traits) i mean he auditioned for NYADA, didn’t get in, and was determined to audition again, he didn’t let that one setback rule his life. 

But, he is also very brave, standing up to Karosky, all of the other fuckers who made his life a living hell, endured so much crap through out his life, and kept a brave face. 

Looking at it all I’m kinda torn, my first instinct is to always put him in slytherin-which isn’t my go to for everyone. (Side note, i think I’m changing my own mind on this) but lets look at one more thing, the slushee in Micheal. 

No slytherin would back down from taking that evidence to the police, i mean it. I am one, i know what I’m talking about lmao. That screams Gryffindor to me, trying to “teach them a lesson” or some crap, no, let him be kicked out, he earned it. FUCK NOW I DONT EVEN KNOW

I’m team Gryffindor. :)

I see the argument that he’s a Slytherin, and I wouldn’t even necessarily argue that his traites are more Gryffindor than Slytherin; it’s a really close call and I see both sides...

HOWEVER.

I’m team Gryffindor because I think it comes down to his values, and I think that Kurt has shown us that, ultimately, his values align with Gryffindor more than they do with Slytherin. And that’s why I think Kurt Hummel is a Gryffindor.

For what it’s worth, this is coming from someone who is a Hufflepuff despite seeming like I should be a Ravenclaw (I have actually gotten into arguments with my friends about this because they’re all convinced I should be Ravenclaw - but I’m not).

Why Kurt Hummel is a slytherin

I’m really passionate about the subject so I decided I had to get it out of my system. I think that Kurt Hummel is a slytherin and I will fight anyone who disagrees. So, you might ask me, “Why do you think Kurt is a slytherin?“

Well, let’s look at what a slytherin really is. As described on Harry Potter wiki, “Slytherins tend to be ambitious, shrewd, cunning, strong leaders, and achievement-oriented. They are often self-assured and confident of their own competence and can be very loyal. The qualities valued included cleverness, resourcefulness, determination, and a certain disregard for the rules. They also have highly developed senses of self-preservation. This means that Slytherins tend to hesitate before acting, so as to weigh all possible outcomes before deciding exactly what should be done.“

1. Ambitious, Confident

Kurt is most definitely ambitious, we get to see that from the beginning. In the second episode as he’s being thrown into a dumpster, he says “One day you will all work for me,” and if that isn’t ambition and confidence, I don’t know what is. He knows his worth, though he isn’t vocal about it, he always walks with his head held high. He auditions for the role of kicker, in a football team full of jocks ready to kill him. Despite not being popular McKinley High, he still decided to run for class president. He applied to one university. Just one. And the hardest one to get into, for god’s sake. And he kept trying after he didn’t get in.

2. Shrewd, Cunning

Kurt is one of the wittiest characters on the show, it’s one of the biggest things that make Kurt Kurt. He could almost be described as sneaky, good examples being bringing Burt and Carole together just to get closer to Finn, giving Rachel an anti-makeover to make Finn dislike her, flunking that high F to save his dad.

3. Self-preservation

Now this one is really The slytherin trait. Cunning and smart slytherins are not ones to act without thinking, or having a plan in mind. They always pick their battles depending on the possible outcomes, gains or losses. In Kurt we can see that trait when he chooses to ignore the bullying. Kurt has shown that he has a sharp tongue and could easily reply to the bullies, yet he chooses to self-preserve by ignoring them.

But this almost sounds like a gryffindor. What’s the difference between the houses?

That is true, gryffindor and slytherin may seem very similar, but there are differences. The goals of the houses are practically the same, but the difference is in how they choose to approach them. Both are extremely ambitious, confident, and really dedicated which partly fuels the rivalry seen between the houses.

Let’s place a gryffindor and a slythering into a hypothetical situation; three bullies called your loved one a bad name. While gryffindors might dive headfirst into a fight to defend their their friend or family member, they may be ignoring the fact that they just attacked three people and they have only a history book for a weapon, oh god, oh fu-   Slytherins on the other hand will assess the situation, and seemingly back off (self-preserving), but the bullies will remember them when they find a swarm of angry wasps in their dormitory. How did that happen? No-one knows.

I could also compare Rachel (a gryffindor) and Kurt. Rachel is very ambitious and confident, so is Kurt, but the characters are very different. Why so? They approach their similar goals and ambitions from completely different angles. While Rachel physically fights the glee club for every solo, Kurt is more subtle about it, take diva-off for example. He also acknowledges that Rachel is good, and despite hating her tells Mr. Schue to give her solos, because his goal is winning the competition, not how they win the competition. When Rachel has a crush she goes straight for Finn, while Kurt plots different ways to get closer to him. Rachel goes after Carmen Tibideaux until she gives her a second chance to audition. Kurt on the other hand, having nailed his audition and not gotten in, decides to not harass Carmen and pursue his other passion, fashion, by applying for Vogue internship. He later does get into NYADA.

Here you can see how their goals are clearly the same, and they do achieve them, but in polar opposite ways. Kurt more subtly and Rachel with bravery, courage, and sometimes lack of survival instinct. A good comparing is; “A slytherin will pick the lock, a gryffindor will kick down the door“

TLDR: kurt is sneaky so he’s slytherin and rachel is brave but a little dumb so she’s gryffindor

Why Kurt Hummel is a Gryffindor

This is a reaction post to @klainetrashnumberone’s post on why she thinks Kurt is a Slytherin. 

(Disclaimer: I’m personally not a very big fan of Slytherin house. I think it really depends on your own experiences with the houses where you sort your favourite characters. I am also really not trying to offend anyone else with other beliefs) 

I think there are good arguments to defend both houses. I get where you are coming from when you say Kurt is a Slytherin. But!!! Though all the reasons why you think Kurt is a Slytherin do fit his personality, they are not his most dominant characteristics. Yes, he is sneaky and cunning and ambitious and all those things. I would never say he isn't. But the main reason why I see him as a Gryffindor and not as a Slytherin is because morally he would always go for for the good for most people and not just for himself and the people close to him. 

Slytherins are more likely to dismiss others feelings to achieve their goals. Kurt isn’t like this. He is the most selfless person in the world. He will never do something if it’d mean hurting someone else. He also would never think less of a person for being less cool or poor or anything. (The blood purity part of Slytherin house bothers me) 

Take Santana for instance. A true Slytherin. Her and Kurt have very similar traits in their personality. However! Santana is loyal to few people that have earned her trust. Her sense of what’s right is more limited to her direct environment. She is willing to put herself first in situations.

Yes, Kurt is loyal to his loved ones, but it doesn’t end there. Kurt wants whats right for everyone. Take his strong fight against bullying when he ran for class president for example. He has a fundamental sense of what is right.

Slytherins are more likely to do something for their own good and not take someone else’s feelings in consideration. Kurt always thinks of how his actions would effect others. 

Also, you say he always thinks before he acts. He doesn’t jump right into things. Well, when he is put under pressure he can jump into things head first without thinking about it because he feels its the right thing to do. Take “Bash” for example. I have never seen a more Gryffindor thing in my life. He sees something that isn’t right so he just acts. Another moment you or choosing “not the boy next door” as his audition song. 

Yes Kurt makes snarky comments, but so does Harry. 

Your sense of humor or quips don’t put you in a certain house. The way you treat the people around you, your moral compass and the intentions/motivations to your actions do.
