you know that study about "Dissociative features related to imaginary companions in the assessment of childhood adversity and dissociation" is really funny to think about because when i was a kid i couldnt bring myself to eat animal shaped food like gummy worms because my brain would personify them as if they had thoughts and feelings. I guess it's nice to know that I wasn't just crazy, just neurodivergent lol

What’s your core memory of watching the Lord of the Rings films for the first time because I will never forget how my extremely South Asian dad — during the emotionally climatic scene where Arwen is riding to the Havens and sees a vision of her son — paused, pointed, and said “Mashallah, Sister Arwen has accepted the hijab, alhamdulillah, praise be to god” and giggled for a good five minutes 😭

do yall ever think about bruce/batman!clone danny standing in front of his bathroom mirror after finding out he was a clone and silently tracing his face. The slope of his jaw and point of his chin. The high angle of his cheekbones and the shape of his eyes, the curve of his brow bones and the shape of his nose. The volume of his hair and the way it curls and gets fluffy when it gets too long.

His hair is black the same way a crow's wing is black. His dad's hair is black the same way a black bear's fur is black. His dad's eyes are blue like the ocean is blue. Danny's eyes are blue the same way a glacier is blue.

His dad has a square jaw and straight flat hair, and he tans and gets a face full of freckles when he's out in the sun for too long. Danny burns like a lobster and his face remains untouched. Danny has a sharp jaw and tall cheekbones, and Sam says when he's not smiling there's almost something regal about him. You would never call Jack Fenton "regal" when he's not smiling.

Sam says when he's not smiling he looks scary the same way a stone statue is. Jack Fenton when he's not smiling looks scary the same way that german shepherd staring at you across the street is.

Do you ever think he grew up wondering if he was adopted. Because of course, he has black hair and blue eyes like his dad. But having the same color doesn't make you someone's child.

Or, worse, things he's heard from the other kids and the other parents and even some of his teachers growing up; that he was the product of an affair. And that his dad was just too stupid to notice. And Danny would defend his parents until the day he died, because Jack Fenton wasn't an idiot and Maddie Fenton wasn't a cheater.

But doubt comes in with fickle tongue. his parents swear up and down that he is their child when he asks about either. That Danny just had his grandparents' features, but he was their son and they loved him.

But Danny doesn't look like either of his parents. His mom's eyes are blue like an aquamarine and Jazz's too. And they burn like lobsters in the sun too, but Jazz gets freckles on her face and so does Maddie. And as Danny grows up he doesn't bulk up or get stocky like his dad did, and when he hits puberty he doesn't shoot up like a tree like Jack Fenton did.

He stays small, and they say he's a late bloomer (and he is), or that he just has his mom's height. But he's fast and has good stamina, and some days it feels like he's built entirely different from his family. That the things they went through growing up just didn't apply to him. Jack and Maddie Fenton both had acne and breakouts when they hit puberty, and Jazz inherits it and he's seen the amount of skincare products she keeps on her side of the bathroom.

And then he hits puberty and breaks out maybe once or twice, but his skin stays clear for the most part and the problems and changes his dad went through just don't happen to him.

And the truth is worse than all of the lies.

How horrifying.

want to know something, septa mordane? an actual armorer's apprentice doesn't share your stupid opinion. and sure, he's a child and you're a corpse, but i'm pretty sure that gendry is absolutely correct here.

Lady Catelyn always wanted her to be like Sansa, to sing and dance and sew and mind her courtesies. Just thinking of it made Arya try to comb her hair with her fingers, but it was all tangles and mats, and all she did was tear some out. "I ruined that gown that Lady Smallwood gave me, and I don't sew so good." She chewed her lip. "I don't sew very well, I mean. Septa Mordane used to say I had a blacksmith's hands." Gendry hooted. "Those soft little things?" he called out. "You couldn't even hold a hammer."

(i mean, arya is stubborn enough to actually go and try to hold a hammer on her own, if she wanted to, but this was just an old woman being cruel to a child)

love the sweet ‘Alfred was unspokenly Bruce’s father but they both knew it’ sentiment we get in comics and cartoons but i love the dynamic between them in TB’22 where Bruce seemed ungrateful and a brat and Alfred refused to acknowledge that he should have been a parent for so long

let them be bad for each other (before they learn to be good for each other). they can be flawed. as a treat.

maybe Bruce can be a little ungrateful and demanding and maybe even manipulative. let him snap at Alfred and get under his skin and push and push and push Alfred away when he tries to give advice or help because Bruce thinks he knows better, and because he’s comfortable enough with Alfred to be a jerk in the way he can’t with everyone else. let him lash out because he has no one, and he doesn’t know how to have someone. let him lash out because he thinks if he can’t see Alfred as anything more than “just kinda there and sometimes kinda helpful” he won’t be hurt when Alfred inevitably leaves him, too.

and let Alfred dig back. let him try to avoid the harsh reality that Bruce’s poor decisions and attitude just might be a result of his failure to be there in a way that Bruce needed. let him shrug and tell himself ‘why would it reflect on me? i’m not the boy’s father, and quite frankly, I wouldn’t want to be.’ until he eases himself in to not feeling guilty about how Bruce turned out so fucked up. let him grapple with the guilt of pretending like he isn’t passive, only honest, when he’s telling himself that Bruce is going to do what he wants to anyways, so there’s no point in putting a stop to it.

let them find it easier to say “I don’t like you” and “you get on my nerves” and “you’re not my father/son” because maybe it will hurt less if they try to detach themselves emotionally. if they trick themselves into believing that they don’t care that much, maybe it will hurt less when Bruce gets himself killed, or when Alfred is too old to keep going.

let them realize that both of them put up walls to protect themselves, but maybe they feel the only way to tear down those walls is to fire shots at one another until the walls crumble. let them get worse because neither wants to cave first and say “hey i actually care about you and your well being.”

“you piss me off” is just so much easier, anyways.

and THEN. let them learn how to let each other in after Alfred almost dies. let Alfred realize his mistake in being neglectful and shrugging off responsibility because he’s ’not the boy’s father’, and promise to do better by Bruce so Bruce doesn’t push him away again. and let Bruce realize he acts the way he does because he’s afraid of losing the only person he has, and thinks he can stop the pain before it starts by shutting Alfred out.

and then they can heal from it and stop being assholes to each other. but only after they can admit what they did wrong and apologize.

DPXDC Prompt #58

Gotham is a city with a lot of ambient ectoplasm, enough that the Fentons move here instead of Amity Park. Danny being a pretty smart kid being the son of 2 scientists gets a scholarship to Gotham academy where he makes friends with Tim and Damian. Well the 2 were only doing it at first because they wanted to keep an eye on them scientists rarely didn’t become rouges in Batman’s gallery so can you really blame them for being cautious?

Danny is telling them about the portal that they were trying to build and how it wasn’t working and how Danny felt guilty about it. The 3 venture down there when the parents are gone and Danny wearing his hazmat goes into the portal while the other 2 watch on. Danny trips and no one’s having a good time.

They decided to take Danny to Wayne manor until they can figure out what exactly happened to him, unfortunately Danny’s new powers act up and he winds up phasing through the floor into the basement… or more accurately the Bat cave.
