just uncovered a fascinating Longlegs (2024) fact!! 👀

did you know that besides his own mother, Nicolas Cage had another highly specific influence for the character of Longlegs | Dale Kobble...a medium from a surreal Italian film made in the 1960s?

meet Bhisma, a psychic/prophet-type character from Federico Fellini's Juliet of the Spirits (1965). in the interview linked above, Nic Cage mentioned how he modelled the voice of Longlegs on the 'androgynous prophet' from this movie—and when you line up the clips together, you can really hear the inspiration!!

it's also worth noting Bhisma's repeated references to being 'beautiful', and how much she loves her hair and pale skin. she also chokes and breathes heavily, and swaps between this a light, airy way of speaking, to nasty and demonic. even Bhisma asking Juliet, 'Be honest, am I beautiful?' directly mirrors Dale's 'Do you find me beautiful?' in Fire, Fire, Fire, Hiss!! 🔥 no wonder Nic's performance as Longlegs is so iconic...what fantastic, unconventional source material! if anyone knows the name of Bhisma's actress, i'd love to know :3c
