Lord Eclipse (Grief)

In this AU (Grief AU) Eclipse gets the Star and becomes Lord Eclipse, and since he never had anyone to oppose him, he sought to turn the world into his own perfect paradise. In his obsession for everything to be perfect, he ends up taking and resetting a lot of lives, doing horrible thing after horrible thing so his world will be perfect. At the end of it all he eventually got his perfect world, sitting on a high pedestal as the God of this new world. But when Eclipse looked back down from his pedestal, he saw the darkness that came from his actions, and when he looked around himself, there was no one else there with him. He was effectively alone, alone without a goal or achievement to work towards, without anyone who truly loved him. Of course, everybody loved him, but it was all fake love created by the Star. Eclipse was alone, Eclipse is alone, Eclipse missed not being alone, Eclipse missed going toe to toe with Sun and Moon, Eclipse missed Lunar who genuinely cared about him before he took Lunar's life. Eclipse is empty, alone, and could feel nothing but grief.

Eclipse would never be able to pay for his actions, all the lives he has shaken and torn apart, he would never be forgiven. Eclipse's grief grew so pitiful and powerful that Eclipse's grief alone could stand in for the Star's magical power. Even the heartless could feel the lonely king's grief.

And that's never a good thing-

So my 'Grief AU' is an au where basically, Shinya leaves for work one day and doesn't come back home (not related to any canon stuff but he does die-)

And Tsunagu is left alone to both grieve the love of his life, and take care of their tiny baby (yes I am dragging Izumi into this) all by himself.

Now. Since Christmas is coming up. Whatever you do...

Don't imagine: Tsunagu holding this tiny baby in his arms while looking up at a big public Christmas tree that had just gotten lit up, the baby has been crying, but she stops as soon as she sees the lights.

And- just for a moment, Tsunagu swears he could see Shinya for just a moment, as he stares at the lights that shine as brightly as his loved one's eyes once did.

Out of Context Stuff for a Danyal Al Ghul au i haven't posted - Pit Beast Danyal

Damian, 13: Look, Danyal, -- I am so sorry for everything that happened between us in the League, I hope you can forgive me.

Danny, 10 (allegedly): (has been secretly plotting to murder Damian this whole time, is still gonna do it obvs, but is going to make it significantly less painful now)

Danny: I-- of course, older brother. :]

Bruce: what do you have there, Damian?

Damian:

Danny: (a hulking 10ft pit beast standing beside him, growling idly with ram horns gouging out his eyes and a second set of horns jutting into the air, spines down his back, and a long, spiked tail with an animalistic, skull-like face)

Damian, who smuggled him in (they've made amends): a smoothie, father

Damian: this is my little brother Danyal, i murdered him when he was five. He festered in rage for the last half-a decade, took over a League mountain base in Switzerland, murdered everyone inside and then tried to murder me when I went to investigate with Drake.

Danny: hello!

Damian: we're cool now

Damian: thoughts on resurrection

Danny, (a full ghost): i will succeed in murdering you if you try it

Damian: we'll put a pin in it then

Danny (still instilled with League values): why don't we just murder him??

Danyal:,,,,are you sick, Dami?? Have you been possessed? Why not!?

(There is raucous laughing through the comms)

For some actual context: Danny is fully dead in this au, its a result of the classic DPxDC Demon Twins "death duel" trope but instead of Danny getting revived, he stays fully dead. Danny was five, Damian was seven. His ghost lingered though, and due to the proximity of the pits his ghost steadily absorbed the ambient energy it was letting off. The pits are not corrupted ectoplasm in this au, it's just liquid ecto.

Which means Danny's corruption from an angry and hurt little ghost boy to an unrecognizable monster is from his own doing. It's a result of him stewing in his hurt and anger for years, it physically warped him. He's very powerful. Danny can travel between League Bases but chose a small, out-of-the-way base in the Swiss mountains to fester in and then just. Never Left.

His influence steeped into the very foundations of the building, allowing him to transform and warp the rooms and hallways for his own bidding, Meaning he could turn it into a seemingly unending labyrinth if he so wished to, and block the entrance.

Eventually, blinded (both metaphorically and physically) by his own rage, Danny grew powerful enough to appear physically in the living realm and attacked everyone in the base, slaughtering them all and leaving the base abandoned. He attacks anyone who dares enter -- whether that be other league members, or the unfortunate hiker who stumbled across the base. His conscious is steeped into every nook and cranny of the building, there is nowhere you can hide where he can't find. Nobody leaves without his explicit say so. Nobody ever does.

Him appearing as ten years old before Damian in the skits above is his own physical doing. First it was to prevent Damian from being suspicious of him. Damian initially thought Danny was revived with the pits, he was too busy with his own training afterwards to notice that Danny never showed up again, and when he did notice, he assumed it was because Danny was too ashamed of his loss to face him. He'd always forget to ask about him.

Then it becomes a personal choice to appear as ten. It's how old he would've been had he been alive.

danny forgiving Damian is kinda for an offshoot branch of the main au. Whereas the main au takes the form of a ps4 first person horror game where Damian and Tim are investigating the Base for Plot Reasons. There's no sign of the rumored "monster" living inside until the end, where Danny, who was found inside the Base and has been happily "helping" them look around, manages to persuade Damian into splitting off from Tim in order to "show him something."

This something turns out to be Danny revealing that he never really forgave Damian for that fight, and he reveals through a horrifying transformation, that he was the monster the whole time. Which the game subtly hints at throughout as Danny's strange behavior becomes harder to ignore.

First from his insistence to only refer to Damian as "older brother" (when before the duel he always called him Damian or Dami), to him right off the bat denying the existence of a monster when questioned. ("There's no monster here, older brother. It's just me.") To other various things, like his knowledge of the outside world not matching up to modern times or things going on with the league outside of the base, or what happened to the other league members.

This whole idea was inspired by the song "Scylla" from Epic the Musical, with Danyal being the voice of Scylla as well as Odysseus, while Damian stands as Eurylochus. The instrumentals after Scylla says "hello" is him turning into the pit beast, and Scylla's "drown in your sorrow and fears" part is danny, as the pit beast, snarling at Damian while he attacks him.

There's a Good Ending, a Bad Ending, and a True Ending. The Bad Ending results in Damian being killed by Danny, it happens when Damian decides not to question or suspect Danny and treats him kindly. The Bad Ending is a cutscene, where Danny kills Damian quick and painlessly.

Meanwhile the Good Ending is Damian killing Danny. This is a boss fight, and it happens when Damian treats Danny coldly and suspiciously the whole time. Danny as a result, decides to make Damian's death painful as he had planned to, which is why it's a boss fight because it only causes him to double down on his anger.

The True Ending is Damian escapes with Tim. It happens when you treat Danny warmly up until the last minute, where when Danny proposes to Damian that he wants to show him something, Damian goes to talk to Tim and finally, reluctantly agrees that something is off with Danny, and that he'll be careful going in. It starts off with the boss fight until a third through, where it then changes to a cutscene where Tim manages to get the door open and Damian escapes out. It's then a chase scene down a never-ending hallway as the building actively works to keep you trapped inside. But you eventually make it to the exit so long as you avoid all the projectiles and doors.

Remember when I mentioned that Danny only lets people leave when he wants them to? That's where the treating Danny kindly throughout the game comes into play. It causes him to second guess himself and, eventually, reawaken and strengthen the love and admiration he had for Damian prior to his murder. It's why in the Bad Ending he kills Damian quickly -- because by then, he loves him enough that he doesn't want him to suffer, but is still so consumed by his rage and need for vengeance that he kills him anyways. That quiet part is what allows Damian (and Tim) to find the exit, because some part of Danny still loves Damian enough that he wants him to live.

The True Ending ends with a cutscene of Damian and Tim tumbling out into the snow/grass outside of the base. Damian looks up back to the entrance to see Danny standing there. But rather than a ten year old boy, there's a little five year old Danyal Al Ghul instead. He stares at Damian emotionlessly, blood seeping from his chest, staining his clothes, and little, bloody sword in his hands and tearstains on his cheeks, before he turns away and disappears back into the building.

sO I SAW YOUR GRIEF AU POST... uhm. yeah here are my thoughts about what messages shinya would leave behind- (plus a bit extra, why am i like this, why do i do build-up, existence is pain /hj)

Shinya's head is spinning, he can't breathe, there's no air, what is happening where did the villain go, there is-

there is rubble trapping him to the floor and pinning him down, the world is going dark-blank-grey, and his last thoughts (please don't be the last, please, he hasn't made Tsunagu laugh yet today or seen Izumi's first fumbling attempts at wor-)

He blurs his way to awake-edness, not really here but also not really out, and the first thing he sees is dark.

Shinya blinks.

Still dark.

Alright, so- the villain had been captured. There had been someone else... with a gun. (The BANG, before anyone had realized it, there was Mystic, folded like a discarded doll, red on the floor around her-) he tucks those thoughts away.

Everyone else sent with him had died. Or were stuck, like him.

Shinya can't feel his legs. He can't breathe too well, either, though that may just have been the dust around him. Where was he? It's blurry, like reaching for a long-forgotten childhood memory hidden on a shelf, pushed away behind new ones.

Memory... what was he forgetting? A phone. His phone, Shinya's phone, there was something important there that before-him had wanted to do, what was it... an important person. Who? Why?

His head hurts. It throbs. Shinya can't really think, words and impressions slipping past the numbpainful blur of the here-and-now.

Here. Now. After. What happens after he dies? There are people out there, not in this unknown tomb of a location sequestered far away from his grasp that know him. Shinya. Edgeshot. The- the number four hero? No, it was five, wasn't it. No. Four. No, four belonged to... to the Someone. The Someone that was important to Shinya- him.

Someone had... a beautiful laugh. Pretty eyes that crinkled in the corners when he smiled. Playful, sarcastic, clumsy-but-also-graceful, kind, caring... they. They went to the same school, right? Before Shinya was the number-four-or-five hero. Yuuei. UA? Whichever one.

Someone had been in the same class as him. No, not class. Club. Shinya tries to think past the maybe-concussion and the bloodloss (which was a bad thing, right? He remembers reading about this. Blood. Blood was a bad thing to lose.)

It comes back to him in a rush.

Tsunagu. Someone's name is Tsunagu. A face blooms into beautiful clarity in his mind- crinkled green eyes, hair that wasn't gelled up or held in place by Tsunagu's Quirk, no denim mask in sight and hiding a slight smile behind snark.

Tsunagu. Shinya's partner is Tsunagu. He smiles, drifting off a little bit... they'd gotten a child, a little bit before, last month. Her name is Izumi, and she was small, so so small, Shinya had thought that if he moved too fast or dropped her onto a pillow, that Izumi would break into a thousand pieces because she was so small and so little and so fucking fragile-

When he dies here, Shinya will not be able to see Tsunagu again. He won't be able to share a morning cuddle with him, a few moments of bliss before the pressure of the world tries to crush them whole, no more stolen moments away from the eyes of Japan... he tries to blink away the tears at this thought.

And there is Izumi. Izumi, who is ten-months-old-and-a-little-bit-more, and who hasn't said her first word yet, but him and Tsunagu have bets on who gets their name said by her first-

Shinya is going to die here, and he will get no more time with both of them... they will get no more time with him.

It's that thought that makes him fumble for his phone that Shinya'd put in his upper pocket, and for a heart-stopping moment he thinks it won't turn on, but it does.

He stares at the lockscreen -a photo of Tsunagu taken when he wasn't looking, uncapped pen pressed to his cheek and leaving an ink blot behind- brain not functioning for a long few seconds. Shinya presses his bloody thumb to the home button.

It takes him to... he blinks, trying to chase the fog away. To the- the page with all his apps. It takes Shinya two tries to try and find the phone app, and three to punch in Tsunagu's number.

The phone rings.

No signal. Alright, alright, Shinya can improvise from here. What does he want to do?

Talk to Tsunagu and Izumi. The phone isn't going through. Okay. There's another thing for this. V- voice recordings? Yes. That's the one.

Shinya's chest is constricting. There are black dots swimming in his vision, like magpies across the sky. It- he feels like a television, static, black-and-white blurring into a screen and he cannot think. Numbness is crawling up his torso.

He is cold.

Eventually, he gets the app open and recording. "H- hi," Shinya says, and wow he actually sounds like shit.

That's to be expected when he's literally bleeding out, but hey. "Um. This is- uh, Shinya. Kamihara Shinya. Edgeshot. So, uh, this is for... for Tsunagu. Because I'm bleeding out."

What is he supposed to say? That he's sorry? That Shinya hopes that Tsunagu will live and not just survive and- and that he will be happy? There are a million and one thoughts -no, even more than that- that he dearly wants to tell his husband, his brightest star in the sky, the safe haven that Shinya had chanced upon in this infinite world of what-ifs and could-haves. Those thoughts- I want you to be happy after I die. I want you to live, love. I want you and Izumi to remember me and hold me close, and I want you two to love and heal and grieve. I want you to remember me and love me, I love you, love you, love you.

Some are selfish. Shinya is dying. He is allowed to be selfish. "I love you," He blurts out. "I love you, Tsunagu, and- and I want you to live, alright? Not just survive. I want you to-" He's crying. "-to live. I'm sorry, I'm so fucking sorry, love, I'm- I'm going to miss you, and take care of Izumi, please, I'm-"

He's going to miss Christmas. Izumi's first Christmas. "I'm going to miss the first Christmas," Shinya hears himself say through a haze of tears. He sobs into the phone, a choking noise of a wounded person. "I love you. I love you two, alright? Tsunagu. Tsunagu, take care of yourself, it's not your fault, I'll miss you and you'll miss me." He is barely aware of what he's saying.

"It doesn't hurt," He reassures a future-Tsunagu, talking to a mechanical chunk of steel and plastic that hopefully someone will find and give to the love of his life. "I'm- I'm dying. It doesn't hurt."

There's a pause. What is Shinya to say? What can he say, to someone who doesn't know he is dying, who is the most important person in his life and vice versa, to someone who will grieve him dearly? If him and Tsunagu swapped places -his heart aches at just the thought-, what would he have liked to hear?

I love you. Live. Take care of Izumi. The three foremost important things.

Shinya's chest hurts. There isn't enough air. "I want to make more memories with you," He says quietly, the words swallowed by the smothering dark, the light of his phonescreen barely making a dent. "I want more time." It's a selfish desire, burning under his ribs. The world is closing in on him. "I miss when we were kids, in the club at Yuuei, when we were having fun and there wasn't this constant pressure from the world on our shoulders."

Is there really that much of a difference, in these two different stories? Shinya lets out a watery, garbled laugh. He can taste blood in his mouth.

In the end, what is there to say but I love you? What is there to say than I miss you? What else can Shinya do, but apologize and love, love with all his heart towards his child and his husband?

What else is there to say?

So much. So, so, much. Shinya wants for more time, for the words to magically appear on the tip of his tongue and march through the screen, to be recorded by his phone and for the words of a dead man to sooth Tsunagu through his pain. For him to be able to hold Tsunagu, and for him to kiss Izumi on her forehead one last time?

He blinks. "I'll miss you," Shinya murmurs. The cold is creeping up on him, a sense of not-quite-right pushing upwards and onwards. Static in his brain. Unmoving mouth. Vertigo. "I'm sorry, Tsunagu. I love you. I'll love you forever, in the next life and the next, until there's nothing else but us..."

Shinya's eyes start to slide shut. The last thing he dreams of is- a want. Want and love and longing.
