[image description: three banners comprising five heart shapes made of five rows of crosses, akin to cross stitch. Each row is four crosses high. A single cross fills the space between the hearts, separating each from the next, while a row of crosses high extends across the banner above and below the hearts. The banners are coloured, respectively, to match three different pride flags: aromantic spectrum (green/light green/lemon/teal/dark teal), neu aro (green/light green/white/brownish mauve/darker brownish mauve) and non-sam aro (dark cyan/cyan/white/light green/green). Each banner is shown in two versions: one with a gradient background in matching flag colours, the other with a transparent background.]

My zine, 'Label Coining as an Artform', is finally done! Transcript/Image ID underneath (warning: it's long). Printed version in a reblog.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image ID: A series of pages in a zine. The text is handwritten, and all figures described are simplified stick figures.
Page 1: ‘LABEL COINING as an ARTFORM in large text. Below is the multicolored MOGAI wheel, with three figures taking pieces of the colors and using them for art: sculpting, cutting a piece of paper, and painting. Below is ‘a MOGAI (& LIOM!) zine by Elliot/Hesper aka @ crowdsourcedgender on tumblr. Under the text are five pride flags: aro-spec, veldian, alterhuman, xenoman, and schooldoodlic.
Page 2: ‘Label Coining’ in large pink text. ‘(in this context) is the act of creating a word (and usually flag) for a certain experience!’. Next to this text is a figure filled in with pink with a speech bubble full of pink shapes, talking to someone using a cane holding out a hand and expressing a question mark. Below reads ‘generally a queer experience, but does often include or incorporate disability, neurodivergence etc.’ A figure asks ‘Why?’ and the text reads ‘I would say these are the ‘core tenets’:’. In a cloud next to this text is a blue and purple pride flag with purple text reading: ‘like this cool prosopagnosia flag I made!’.
The bottom half of the page is split into two columns: ‘Understanding’ and ‘Community’. The first column has a purple arm amputee explaining a purple rectangle to another purple person who is thinking ‘that’s me!!’. Next to them another purple person is explaining the same rectangle to a blank person, who has a purple-filled thought bubble with a white exclamation mark. Underneath the drawing is text surrounded by question marks: ‘Labels help people understand what they are experiencing, and communicate this to others. It’s easier to explain something when it’s already been written down!” The second column has a purple person holding a purple umbrella. They are waving to a purple person in a wheelchair. A purple person is leading another one to the group. Underneath the drawing is text surrounded by connected dots: ‘People can unite under a shared label whether this group is big or small! Whether for practical purposes (like advice) or just for fun, having people like you is nice.
Page 3: ‘And these are just as important as ever! But I’ve noticed what I like to call COINING for the sake of CREATION’. This last phrase is in large, dark and light blue text. Two sun symbols are on either side. Below is the text: ‘Vexillology is very clearly an artform, but label coining has become something more (not to mention that not all new labels have flags!). It’s composed of multiple skills has become more than the sum of its parts. Any art captures an experience, but label coining is much more explicit about it. And not just people’s experience of their identity! Part of the art of label coining is incorporating other concepts too, e.g. Schooldoodlic A gender related to doodling on school work papers and/or your homework. By spirits-gender-coining on Tumblr.’ The text about Schooldoodlic is small and light teal. Next to the text is its flag.
Page 4: ‘Elements of Label Coining’. The text on this page is separated into four green boxes.
‘Naming: Coming up with the actual word can be tricky. Generally, labels with lots of elements get more leeway with length. It’s important to check that a label isn’t already a word as well.’ Next to this text is more rough, dark green text reading ‘Premade suffixes + prefixes help! And latin (for some languages) as it’s possible to intuit meaning!’ Around the text is a few examples: ‘-vesil’ ‘-musica’ ‘an-’ ‘quoi-’
‘Flag making: Also known as vexillology, this is a pretty big deal. It’s also the most fun for me! You develop a really good sense of color from spending so much recoloring the same three stripes.’ Next to the text is 6 versions of the same pride flag, each with slightly different colors, with a 7th final version with a symbol.
‘Symbol making: Most flags don’t have symbols, but they’re good for groups of labels under a certain umbrella, or just if you have a really good idea.’ Next to this is rough, dark green text reading: ‘I drew three semirealistic flowers for a flag and ended up only using one’ with sad face. Under it is a drawing of a daisy, a pink coneflower, and lavender, which is circled.
‘Descriptions/formatting: Explanations can be artistic in their own right, and formatting is fun to mess with: many people have their own style. Make sure it’s accessible: add image IDs and plain text where applicable. There are a lot of good resources online!’ In dark green text is the phrase ‘Accessibility over Aesthetics’ with an image of a key on top and sparkles below.
Underneath the boxes in light green text is ‘Note: in the right context, any of these can be optional!’
Page 5: ‘If it wasn’t clear, I think this is AWESOME’. Awesome is in large text with yellow radiating lines. Underneath is ‘I’m a MOGAI coiner myself (generally) with about 65 coins at time of drawing. Using something I made, I wanted to demonstrate what a label coining might look like!’ Underneath is four versions of the same pride flag as well as a description, with ‘flag!’ ‘stripe meanings (I don’t normally do these)’ ‘symbol’ ‘name’ ‘pre-existing format’ and ‘experience’ labelled. The description reads ‘[Image ID was here] Human non-conforming (HNC). Human non-conforming (HNC, similar to gender non-conforming) is an umbrella label encompassing all identities and subcultures that somehow incorporate nonhuman elements in any way.’
Page 6: ‘The thing I love most about the label coining community is just that- the community! The way coiners and users interact, as well as how coiners can work together, is wonderful. There are 5 large words each with an associated doodle.
‘Requesting’: A figure leaning on forearm crutches has a speech bubble with yellow shapes exploding out of it. Another figure is taking shapes down from the bubble and forming it into a ball.
‘Collecting’: A figure is pulling a yellow cart with a large cloth bag labelled ‘LABELS’. They have stars in their eyes, and are looking at another person who is gesturing to a yellow rectangle.
‘Collaborating’: Two figures, one with orange speech and one with yellow speech and an AAC tablet are discussing, with many shapes and lines intermingling to make a fragmented rectangle.
‘Combining’: A figure in a grey hijab pulls down a lever. They are standing next to a large blender mixing orange and yellow liquids. On either side is bright yellow lightning.
‘Redesiging’: A small star with four radial lines coming out of it becomes more and more complex, indicated by black arrows.
Under the words is the text: ‘I’ve never participated, but there’s this amazing event called: COINFIGHT. Hosted by @ kiruliom on Tumblr. It’s inspired by artfight, and it involves coining labels for other people- but competitive-ish!’ Coinfight is in large, text with a crescent moon with stars at the top right corner, and a star at the bottom left.
Page 7: ‘I don’t think there’s anything like finding a label that finally fits you, or hearing that something you made did that for someone else.’ Under is a figure looking at an orange flower with light lines, then forming elements of the flower into a bubble, then showing an orange rectangle to another figure, with orange tendrils reaching towards them, forming the shape of a heart. Below is the text ‘There are a lot of things like pouring out your heart- or just having fun- while making or collecting label. I coin in the same mind I sketch and color and shade.’ On each side is a pen drawing an orange figure with a red shirt, and a tablet with an orange and red flag. Under this is ‘Label coining is an artform both like and unlike any other, and I’m proud to participate in it. I hope that if you want to, you can join me. And if that’s not your thing- thanks for reading!’ There is a drawing of a figure with dark grey wings holding up two fingers. Next is a ‘<2’ heart and ‘elliot’ as a signature. In smaller text next to these is ‘Thank you to the creators whose work is featured in this zine! Credit on the next page. Remember to keep this wonderful community and artform accessible to all!’
Page 8: ‘Credit’: This section has a pride flag next to each label. ‘Aromantic-spectum, @ theflagarchive on Tumblr. Turian, @ kenochoric on Tumblr. Schooldoodlic, @ spirits-gender-coining on Tumblr. Xenoman, @ ryanyflags on Tumblr. MOGAI symbol, Pride-Flags on DeviantArt. Alterhuman, @ vaestra on Tumblr. (the flag on pg. 4 is Wildflowergender). ‘About making this zine’: ‘I really, really regret handwriting this. Drawing over Helvetica Neue for so long might change my actual handwriting, [more rough:] which looks like this! According to Artstudio Pro, I took 14 hours! I barely planned this before starting, the color wheel theme and the people doodles. /End ID]

local libraries <2
was at mine to return a book I had finished (your wish is my command by Deena Mohamed, an Egyptian graphic novel about a version of our world where you can buy wishes) and looking around for more books because library
picked up a couple more and went to the teen section because that's a good place to find queer books that aren't too long or full of sex scenes and whatnot and in the window they had this
Tumblr media
image description: a sign in a window that says protect trans kids on top of a trans flag. the sign is reversed because it was taken from inside /end id
which just melts my heart, all is well in the library
they have pride flags in the other window and I was back round that way a little later and took a photo of them, noticing that some were upside down
Tumblr media
image description: a 12 pane window with small paper pride flags blue tacked to 9 of the panes. from left to right, top to bottom they are:
the intersex flag: yellow with a purple ring in the centre
pan: pink, yellow, and blue horizontal stripes. this flag is upside down, so blue is on top
aro: dark green, light green, white, grey, and black horizontal stripes. this is upside down, so black is on top
bi: pink, purple, and blue horizontal stripes, with the purple stripe being thinner than the pink and blue
trans: light blue, light pink and white horizontal stripes in the order blue, pink, white, pink, blue
ace: black, grey, white, and purple horizontal stripes. this flag is upside down, so the purple is on top
gay: the ocean gay flag which is horizontal stripes of 3 shades of teal getting lighter towards the middle, white, and 3 shades of blue getting darker towards the bottom. this flag is upside down so that the blue is on top
enby: yellow, white, purple, and black horizontal stripes
lesbian: the sunset lesbian flag which is horizontal stripes of 3 shades of orange getting lighter towards the middle, white, and 3 shades of pink/magenta that get darker towards the bottom
on the bottom 3 panes there are also some origami butterflies in the trans colours /end id
I went in and told one of the librarians that some of the flags were upside down and she fixed the ocean one and got a couple of the boys sitting in the area to get the aro, ace and pan ones because they were taller
also it's not visible in the first photo but there's a little progress flag in that window too
happy happy times, support trans youth and your local library

The first 30 pride cefusas. Possibly I should have kept a small flag in each to show what the flag looks like but it's too late for that now lol.
Please send me more pride flags so I can color pick them from my phone. you can put them in a post and @ me if you want
some of the colors I tried to adjust a bit to make them less eye-burning.
These are all public domain, you can use them for anything you want. Including just slapping it on top of the original flag to use as a mascot :)
Please consider donating to a Palestinian relief fund if you want to say thanks. And for every $10 you donate, you can send me a color scheme or theme of your choice, and I'll make a public domain character based on that! It can be another cefusa, a dragon, a quadrupedal cat, an anthro cat, a werewolf, a unicorn, a bat person, and more!
I have 6 more to post so far but 30's the limit of images in a single post. So they'll all be tagged as "Pride cefusa"
If at least $100 are donated with proof sent to me, which doesn't all need to be one person, I will make a side blog dedicated to posting these and give them each their own individual posts for people to reblog!

Tumblr media
Bisexual fact:
Overall, 4% of U.S. adults say they identify as bisexual, according to an August 2023 survey by the Center. Younger adults are more likely than older Americans to describe themselves as bisexual. the term bisexual was used in Dutch for the first time in 1877, to refer to a hermaphrodite who had their sexual career as both a heterosexual woman and a heterosexual man. Later, the term bisexuality is used to represent both the double sexual-object choice and androgyny.
Tumblr media
Aromantic fact:
Aromantic people can also form non-romantic relationships of all types, as well as being able to enjoy sexual relationships. They may also choose to have children, and studies indicate that aromantic individuals are no less likely to have children than alloromantic individuals. One of the earliest uses of the modern term "aromantic" dates back to 2005. The early online community around aromanticism formed on the Asexual Visibility and Education Network (AVEN), an online community around asexuality, and social media platforms such as tumblr.
Tumblr media
Progress fact:
a reinterpretation of multiple iterations of the pride flag. The original 'rainbow flag' was created by Gilbert Baker in 1978 to celebrate members of the gay and lesbian political movement. It comprised eight coloured stripes stacked on top of each other to evoke a rainbow, a symbol of hope. Daniel Quasar (xe/xyr pronouns) is the creator of the Progress Pride flag, a combination of the original Pride flag by Gilbert Baker, the Trans Pride flag by Monica Helms in 1999, the More Color, More Pride flag introduced by Amber Hikes in 2017, and a black stripe from the Victory Over AIDS flag, inspired by Sergeant Leonard Matlovich, to represent those lost during the AIDS crisis. This flag design “forces the viewer to confront
Tumblr media
Aro/ace fact:
Aromantic asexual people are colloquially known as "aro-ace" or "aroace". Aromantic individuals are also able to experience platonic love and may have committed friendships, and some form intimate non-romantic partnerships called "queerplatonic relationships". the early 2000s as a way for individuals to explore and understand their experiences of limited or absent sexual and romantic attractions.
Tumblr media
Agender fact:
agender" was actually on the Internet! It was born in the year 2000, on an Internet forum called UseNet. In a chat room discussion entitled alt. messianic, a user posted the following: “God is amorphous, agender, so image can't be a physical or gender or sexual thing.” Agender is a term used by individuals who do not identify with any specific gender or who experience a lack of gender altogether. Agender people have a sense that their gender identity is completely neutral, or does not exist at all. They may use words like "genderless" and "gender free" to describe themselves.
Tumblr media
Trigender fact:
In Ancient Greece, Phrygia, and the Roman Republic and Empire, Cybele and Attis were worshiped by galli priests (documented from around 200 BCE to around 300 CE) who wore feminine clothes, referred to themselves as women, and often castrated themselves, and have therefore been seen as early transgender figures. The exact origin of the term "trigender" is unknown, but it has been mentioned as early as 1998. The prefix tri- means three, so "trigender" literally means "three gender".
Tumblr media
Gay fact:
2400 BCE, are speculated to have been gay based on a representation of them embracing nose-to-nose in their shared tomb, though critics say that they were likely brothers. In 1978 Harvey Milk became the first openly gay man elected to public office in the United States, and the first openly gay or lesbian person to be elected to public office in California, when he won a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. "The green (Community) and teal (Joy) in the flag represent Nature. I thought this was important because love between men is often seen as “unnatural” in the eyes of society and in religion. Furthermore, gay men have historically used green flowers and plants (Carnations, hyacinths, etc.) to symbolize our love, reinforcing our connection with Nature. The white stripe is adopted from the Trans Pride flag because trans, nb, and GNC men are often erased or talked over and need explicit representation.
Tumblr media
Pansexual fact:
the hybrid words pansexual and pansexualism were first attested in 1914 (spelled pan-sexualism), coined by opponents of Sigmund Freud to denote the idea "that the sex instinct plays the primary part in all human activity, mental and physical". created to differentiate between the bisexuality flag, which also has three horizontal bars. It was created on the internet sometime around 2010, and has gained popularity since then. The Pansexual symbol combines the male, female, and transgender symbols into one, new, P-shaped symbol representing pansexuality.
Tumblr media
Demigirl fact:
The earliest demigirl flag was created on April 15th, 2014 by Tumblr user kyriefortune. The second demigirl flag was created on August 24th, 2015 by pride-flags based on Willow's demiguy flag. Another flag was posted on the same day by pride-flags also based on Willow's demiguy flag. A gender identity term for someone who was assigned female at birth but does not fully identify with being a woman, socially or mentally. transgender pride-flag, retaining the central white & pink stripes representing enbies & women, but with 4 added horizontal stripes of different shades of grey to signify a disconnect and/or uncertainty associated with this gender-identity.
Hope you all had a great pride month. Can’t wait to do more of them.
What pride art should I do next year?

Lovelustic Aro Flag!! 💞
Finally got around to making a flag for this term I coined!! (Coining post linked above)
The pink shades are inspired by the hot pink sex stripe on the Gilbert Baker pride flag and the colors on the hypersexual flag, as some Lovelustic experiences are connected to experiencing hypersexuality. The pink shades also represent love and/or romance if one finds that applicable to them. The green and teals represent aromanticism and arospec (the arospec flag has teal shades on it)

Simplified versions:

9-stripe

[image description: six cartoon-style bunting graphics, featuring six pride flags hanging from a brown rope. The flags are rectangular, finishing in a chevron shape, and have rows of brown stitching across the top of the flag and along the bottom of the chevron. The first three flags in each image have the topmost stripes facing the left; the second three flags are flipped, so all topmost edges face away from the centre of the bunting.
Each banner starts with the yellow/gold allo-aro flag on the left and alternates with an aromantic spectrum identity flag. From top to bottom, the banners include: asensual (black/grey/white/periwinkle blue), aroflux (red-pink/coral/light olive/bright lime/green), arospecgender (green/light green/teal/dark teal/white), demi-recipromantic (dark pink/light pink/white/mint green/green/mint green/white/light grey/black), loveless arogender (green/dark grey/grey/light green/white), sequenceromantic (red/lighter red/pink/green).]
Allo-Aro Bunting - Aromantic (and A-Spec) Edition
I wanted to make banners that celebrate the many possible identities encompassed by the “aro” in “allo-aro”!
Flags: Asensual, Aroflux, Arospecgender, Demi-Recipromantic, Loveless Arogender, Sequenceromantic.

Yellow: pissing on social binary norms Green: how sick you're gonna make conservatives feel Red: the blood of your enemies
Okay but for real though here's the color meanings:
Yellow: the nonbinary flag, neutrality of gender, subverting the binary Green: the aromantic flag, growth, healing, healthy non-sexual and non-romantic relationships Red: tertiary attraction, boldness of identity, aromantic and asexual love

Each banner starts with the yellow/gold allo-aro flag on the left and alternates with an aromantic or aplatonic spectrum identity flag. From top to bottom, the banners include: aego-fictoromantic (dark green/green/grey/black/grey/green/dark green with black-outlined pink circle), aspectusromantic (green/pink/off-white/black/off-white/pink/green), cassromantic (black/olive/peach/pink), frayromantic (blue/cyan/green/white/grey), loveless aplatonic (dark to light indigo/lime/lemon/lime/light to dark indigo), penthoromantic (light grey/grey/light teal/teal/mint green/teal/light teal/grey/light grey).]
Allo-Aro Bunting - Aromantic (and Aplatonic) Spectrum Edition
I wanted to make banners that celebrate the many possible identities encompassed by the “aro” in “allo-aro”!
Flags: Aego-Fictoromantic, Aspectusromantic, Cassromantic, Frayromantic, Loveless Aplatonic, Penthoromantic.
Flag creator posts can be found, tagged by identity, at @aroflagarchive.

Happy Pride to all non-SAM aros and non-SAM aces!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(ID: Left: the non-SAM aro pride flag. Five stripes, from top to bottom: dark blue, light blue, white, light green, and dark green. Right: the non-SAM ace flag. Five stripes, top to bottom: dark purple, light purple, white, light teal, and dark teal.)
Non-SAM aro - An aromantic person who does not use the split attraction model. They are only aro and do not identify with an allosexual or asexual identity. This may be because they cannot differentiate between types of attraction, feel as though their aromantic identity is most important, or because they do not find sexuality labels useful or relevant.
Non-SAM ace - An asexual person who does not use the split attraction model. They are only ace and do not identify with an alloromantic or aromantic identity. This may be because they cannot differentiate between types of attraction, feel as though their asexual identity is most important, or because they do not find romantic labels useful or relevant.

[ID Start: art of nine juice boxes colored similar to pride flags. Each box has a little banner with a heart over it and the saying "it's okay" written in it. Directly under that is a wedge shape with the identity name that corresponds with its color theme. Top row is a purple box for Ace, a mix between the progress flag and Gilbert Baker's flag box for Queer, and a green box for Aro. Second row is a teal and blue box for Gay; an orange and pink box for Lesbian; and a blue, pink, and purple box for Bi. Third row is a blue, pink, and yellow box for Pan; a white, blue and pink box for Trans, and a black and white box for the straight ally. Artist's signature is top left, under the ace juice box. /End ID.]

[ID: Edits of Vee from The Owl House edited against aro-spec pride flags. Vee is partically shapeshifted in Luz's form, and wearing a green cat cap and large yellow sunglasses to hide her basilisk ears and eyes. She also has cream colored spots on her face, hands, and ankles. She's wearing a blue jacket over a yellow shirt. The first image has her against the orange and blue aro-ace flag, the second is her against the teal aromantic spectrum flag, and the third is her against the green aromantic pride flag. End ID]
