Fact: Goomboss, or King Goomba, is a large Goomba who rules over Goombas of Bowser’s Minions.

As the Goombas were originally ruled by Princess Peach in the Mushroom Kingdom, Bowser made him the Goomba King using the Star Rod. He was likely a normal Goomba before this.

Question. Are there friendly versions of goombas, koopas, etc in your Mario AU?

Absolutely! :3

I've talked a little about my interpretation of the koopas in this post, and I believe I've mentioned the bob-ombs a little while back as well.^^

But to briefly summarize the idea, I like to imagine that all and any species that doesn't live in the Dark Lands under Bowser's reign is actually quite peaceful and pretty friendly! Having free will and no pressure to fight for a frightful King would show immediately in their much mellower and meeker temperament. Even some Boos are completely benign in my version, though they're admittedly rare. Most of them are either annoyingly mischievous, deceptive or downright malevolent (as seen in canon). xP 🫣👻

The Goom Buffoons are bringing their clown act to Super Mario Spikers! Their weird playstyle of hiding inside a clown shoe may not get the best results but it CERTAINLY gets the best laughs!

A reason why I love the Mario fandom: They can do a video using scraps of lore to connect Goombas to the Tower of Babel and they can make it work on a thematic level.

(Channel is Mario Unhinged, a newish one but highly underrated IMO)

Goombas Bite And Bunt

There is apparently an old interview with Miyamoto that talks about how when you bump into a Goomba in Super Mario Bros. and take damage, you are being bitten by the Goomba. The reason you don't see it is because of sprite limitation. The reason other games don't show it is basically they simply didn't animate it, and nobody was enforcing the depiction of this. However, there is some media that does depict this.

In Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, one of the attacks Goombas use is to bite you. While not canon to the games there is a scene in The Super Mario Bros. Movie where Goomba is biting on another Goomba, a reference to this characteristic. Finally most recently in Super Mario Bros. Wonder when you run into Goombas an animation of them biting you plays.

Also, Goombas don't just try to bite Mario and friends, Goombas also charge at you as well. This can be seen in any 3D Mario game, and even in Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser. Bowser's Minions actually calls attention to this. Captain Goomba: "I'm used to fighting Mario! For now...I'll just keep bashing!"

This is also why hypotheses that have Mario as evil and Goombas as completely harmless don't work, it contradicts was is established in canon.
