Today's repostober is this hug between my friend @deerkick's character Sol and mine Lorelyn. They had such an emotionally charged start to their relationship in season 1 of my DnD/Good Society game.

Of a Game of Croquet
A view of the outfit I designed for Arturo for the latest in-game day we played for our Good Society campaign~
Due to the inherently magic nature of the environment our game exists in, his mallet reflects his character, hence the smoke!

I love Brennan but the pedestal fandom has him on feels both unearned and uncomfortable. For lots of reasons. But the main one is that I feel like there could be more interesting conversations about the relative strengths and weaknesses of D20 seasons if people were more willing to acknowledge his flaws as a GM and storyteller

Have you played GOOD SOCIETY ?
By Storybrewers
Tumblr media
Jane Austen-style regency romance roleplay, this game has no dice and can be played without a GM. It is structured in a cycle featuring roleplay sections and epistolary sections, with a focus on social interaction and excellent use of safety tools embedded throughout.

PALLAS comes soon!
So I recently looked at the first gdoc i made for this game and it was made on 8th november 2021, but we're getting achingly close to release so I thought it was worth doing some Posts to generate some small amount of Social Media Hype.
I am always thinking about non-violence in TTRPGs, and around autumn 2021 I had recently played a lot of Heart and Good Society, and we were chatting about Fallouts in the resistance system in Roll+Bond, and thus this game was birthed as an unholy fusion of those two games! Too many resistance games are just about Punching and stuff, so let's try something new. The name PALLAS just kinda came to me one day, unsure where exactly from... I ended up talking to my pal Alice a bunch about it all and so she came on as co-writer!
So this list of inspirations has grown a bit over the last almost three years but I think it's very fun! and felt like a good starting point to talk about the game. I'm hoping to commit to writing a bit about the design decisions as we finish off the ashcan version of Pallas, people have enjoyed it in playtesting but would love people to have a look at our weird surrealist comedy of manners RPG.

Castles in the Air is LIVE on Kickstarter
Tumblr media
The wait is over; we're live! Castles in the Air (CitA) is a tabletop RPG written by me and inspired by the novels of Louisa May Alcott and L.M. Montgomery. Based on the award-winning Good Society system, CitA tells stories similar to those in Little Women and Anne of Green Gables. Set in the late 19th century, it follows a group of children who grow up together and remain connected even as they head their separate ways. It’s a game about their dreams, cares and struggles, their personal growth and failings and above all else, what they mean to each other as years pass.
Intrigued? Please check out the Kickstarter to learn more and consider backing. If you can't or don't wish to back, reblogging this post or sharing it with friends off of Tumblr who you think might be interested is still a huge help! This game has been four years in the making, and I'm really excited to share it with all of you.

All the rewatches of A Court of Fey & Flowers in the world could not have prepared me for how fun the epistolary phase in Good Society is when you actually get to play it in real time
The letters that my players have sent so far have ranged from one-word, catty little notes to absolutely exquisite ones that read as if they've been plucked right out of an Austen novel, and it's divine
(Shoutout to @thunderandsage for the line "Here, we may delight in the shadows a multitude of dimensions cast," because it's gonna stick in my brain forever)

Major Characters, and their Connections: from a birthday-themed magical Good Society game we're playing! Broke out some characters from a past dnd game that we miss dearly, and gave them some fun regency hijinks to dance around in.
The top row is the three main characters-- Dalton, Eddy, and Wylloe. Below them on the left are their respective love interests, and on the right, a member from each of their families. More info and image description in the alt text! But feel free to ask about any of these characters, I love them.

If I wanted to run a roleplay heavy fantasy political thriller story in a ttrpg, what game systems should I use? Looking for any and all recommendations.

I've been into reading TTRPG books lately (I backed both Queerz and Fight With Spirit and highly enjoyed both; very much looking forward to the Queer physical edition arriving possibly later this month!!); there's something about the mix of world-building narrative, mechanical structure, and imagination-prompting that just makes them very easy and satisfying to read, like all the best traits of fiction and non-fiction mixed together.
I'm reaching the end of Legend of the Five Rings am am looking for more to read, so I'm looking very intently at drivethrurpg's GM's Day sale.......
Unfortunately none of the L5R supplements are on sale, but I'm definitely picking up Masks: A New Generation (I don't have strong feelings about the genre but I *loved* Avatar Legends!) and the Mythic Game Master Emulator (solo RPGs fascinate me and I'd love a chance to use some of my personally made characters!)
And then I'd like to get one or two more, but I just can't choose between Interstitial: Our Hearts Entwined, Nobilis, and 1001 Nights... They all have their pros and cons for right now, but getting them all would mean spending $65 on PDFs and I don't really think I can justify that right now... :'D

Had a really great first session of a hybrid Good Society and Teens in Space game last night.
Our GM pitched this to us as Regency in Space! with more emphasis on the regency than the in space. We are using some handpicked species from Teens in Space, and the stat mechanics with some tweaks. He designed character sheets to blend the two systems and everything.
And last night was really fun. Super different structurally from D&D, with everything being much more player-led. Our GM's role was basically to give us the setting we were in, roleplay as NPCs, and call for rolls on the rare occasion it was needed (I think I rolled like 3 times in 3 hours) (and I failed every time). There's a real sense that everyone has their own agenda in play, and I love getting to explore a game where the players aren't all on the same 'side'.
And it sounds like it's not a super heavy lift on our GM's part for planning, either -- he had plans for the session that mysteriously disappeared from his files so he had to re-build the scenario at the last minute, and the system was really forgiving of that. I think the most work was in figuring out how to hybridize the systems, but that's been working out really well so far.
It's been really cool so far and I'm excited to see what comes of it!
