Linktober Day 29, Aquatic/Water
Sometimes I forget about how dark Twilight Princess actually gets. And then I remember their Zoras, where the very pretty queen was murdered to send a political message, all of the people in the domain were turned into one big ice cube, the pretty queen's son passes out from a lack of water miles away from his home, all while the Zora at lake Hylia are stranded downstream panicking over the decreasing water level. Thats some Game of Thrones level of dark drama in a children's game. I love it.

I do love thinking about how the Tales of Exandria: Bright Queen comics interact with campaign 3 in terms of timeline. All we know about the comics is that they occur in 855 PD, except that... there are a good nine-ish different years covered, and virtually none of them are consecutive (and some of them require significant gaps). Lolth is very much present in the earliest portion of it, which spans enough years for a child to be conceived, born, and grow to be, I dunno, four or five-ish?, so at the earliest could've concluded within the past two years.
However, the first part could also conclude after the campaign, and in fact it's possible that that is the portion occurring in 855 PD, which suggests that the ultimate plan for the end of the campaign is not to kill all the gods (or alternatively sets up CR to really lean into the time-honored comic approach of 'fuck it, separate timelines' lol). But for now, let's presume the former, and go back to the situation in which the first part has already finished, preserving the continuity of the overall timeline.
The subsequent part, which follows an adolescent drow, implied to have been killed at the culmination of the first section, being guided through anamnesis, does not feature the explicit presence of Lolth. It does include corruption that she has personally caused—and this section, because the adolescent is somewhere over twelve, must take place after the campaign ends. So even if Lolth were to be killed during the campaign, this suggests that her influence is not then gone from the world. We could also take it as a confirmation that Lolth does survive the current plot, as we know that the gods' influence does decrease when they are severely wounded, as that of Lolth herself did when she was banished to the Abyss during the Calamity, though this is not a given.
Nevertheless, if we take the continuity of the comics and the campaigns as generally in alignment, then even if the most drastic action—shy of Predathos consuming Exandria—occurs and Predathos is freed and the gods devoured, we can say with some confidence that it does not eliminate the tangible influence of the gods upon Exandria.

controversial opinion but inej ghafa is literally terrifying and (obviously) such a queen.
like she literally held a stadwatch guard at knifepoint after creeping up on him and whispered (I don’t remember the exact quote) “I like it when men beg, but nows not the time” like??? Queen?????
And the end of the crooked kingdom where she cuts pekka rollins after threatening him, and switched alby’s toy lion with a crow?? Fucking terrifying?????
My love for inej knows no bounds and she is undeniably a powerful and scary woman

(with every disclaimer that Harris/Walz is far from perfect and while I feel better voting for this ticket than Biden, there's still more I want to see from them on several things but especially Gaza)
One thing that I keep feeling but am like....scared??? to say out loud after 2016 (and how close 2020 was lbr) is that there aren't just the happier vibes of a Dem ticket finally learning how to go on the offense, it almost feels like a total flip of where it's been since hell...2014???
The "you're being a fuckin gross weirdo" has been picking up in leftist spaces for a bit (I want to make a tally of how many commentators have joked that they should get royalties for saying it before Walz) but I never would have expected it to reach mainstream Dem messaging and for that to explosively flip the culture war vibes (so far. Man does it say a lot that I keep feeling the need to add caution into everything lmaooooo).
Harris/Walz seem to have managed the thing Democrats have struggled with since even the Obama years: messaging. And it's wild??? They figured out how to smack down culture war shit without ignoring it and without validating it with a full argument. You're being weird. Mind your own damn business.
And with that, now the wider social framing feels like the social progressives from the center to the left are on the offense. Now it's THEM who have internet brain rot weirdo vibes. Now the reactionaries are crying and being sensitive and throwing tantrums. They were before! But it feels like it's finally not being taken seriously. Now the center to left is making memes launching their ticket based on Vibes! Do you know how wild it is for the meme-vibes ticket to not be the other guy???
The backlash to the backlash feels like it's starting and I'm under no illusions that "oh sweet we won lmao we are so back" but man it feels nice to be on the side pointing and going "y'all are being fuckin weirdos."
(Knowing how to deflate a bully is definitely something Walz picked up from being a coach and teacher, but the "you're weird" and "mind your own business" are so word-for-word from how I've seen trans rights activists starting to hit back that I do wonder if he's gotten tips from his GenZ kids. He has said before that his stances on gun control changed bc his daughter talked to him and he's mentioned before that he listens to his kids a lot. So....I do wonder.)

People who don't like Usopp's current/initial Elbaf fit in 1127 are entitled to their opinion but that couldn't be me.
Yeah the fake beard is silly, and he'll probably loose that, but the big poofy adorable striped pants / overalls??? His Asterix type swag?? For shame? Is he not moe?
Big poofy pants are ALWAYS the right answer.

Man that DLC's final boss has got me feeling kinda fucked. I'm kinda depressed about it now that I'm done. Everything else is, was, so good. But I do not like that plot development. I honestly think it is bad. Why did they choose not to foreshadow this in literally any way? Why did Miquella attempt to resurrect Godwyn at all in the first place, then? Practice? Was this really what was originally planned? There's no actual evidence to the contrary so you gotta assume it must've been.
So yeowch...
#sote spoilers#elden ring#tlgtw ooc#literally actually nothing from the base game is resolved. Except where the Land of the Numen were.#That in itself is fine tho--actually. It's clearly a statement: Marika's hair talisman from Shaman Village confirms this for me.#Some things are lost to history or just plain out of reach. And there's nothing anyone can do about it.#We'll never ACTUALLY know who the Gloam-Eyed Queen was--just that all signs pointed to Miquella.#But there's no way to confirm it: Nobody's alive to tell the tale.#So like. THAT part. The extancy of all those unanswered questions. I actually am not gonna lie I kinda really like that. Despite everything#But I think Radahn Consort of Miquella is fucking terrible. “Miquella saw how kind Radahn was” I'm sorry HOW kind was Radahn?#The fucking infinite warmonger who literally explicitly made himself a copy of Godfrey?#There are literally ZERO examples of Radahn being kind in any way. Outside of having one (1) pet horse.#It should've been Godwyn. I'm not even kidding. Godwyn at least is someone who has explicitly succeeded in diplomacy.#Since he befriended his mortal enemy Fortissax and spared the Ancient Dragons by creating the Dragon Cult.#THAT'S something you could point to as an example of kindness. Especially since that's Godfrey's direct heir.#WHAT the FUCK does RADAHN do?????#He doesn't do anything!!! He just kills people!!#We never even get to see what weapon Godwyn used to use!#I don't like it. I think it is not very good.#Rest of the DLC is astounding but how can it all lead up to that? Ah...#Nothing like I had imaged: There's a lot I have to figure out now.

"It is, of course, possible that these Spaniards lied, or dressed up the truth, to protect their beloved princess. It is also possible that they did not. Either way, they were no more or less likely to be lying than the witnesses in England. That makes their testimony as valid as that of those who claimed to have met an ebullient Arthur demanding beer to quench the thirst of a night of hard love-making. Their words add, if not a definitive tilt, then some extra grains of sand to one side of the moral balance on which Catherine is habitually weighed. That balance measures whether she was the pious victim of a cruel, selfish husband or a consummate liar hiding behind an apparently saintly exterior. Judgements of her have swung backwards and forwards from one extreme to the other over the centuries – and still divide people today. [...] Catherine can, of course, be measured on many more scales than just that which deems her either truthful or deceiving. The most important traits of her character have, in fact, little to do with honesty or falsehood. What really matters about her is the strength of that character. A protected childhood amid a family of intense, self-demanding Spanish women does much to explain where this came from. Catherine grew up to become a woman of deep, even exaggerated, intensity. The complex and unhappy early English years, with their constant illnesses, eating problems and stern written instructions from the pope to avoid the self-harm of excessive fasting, give the first few clues to that nature. These were the reactions of a young, perfectionist woman who found herself lonely, lost and unloved in a foreign land. That same intensity and perfectionism explain, too, both her success and popularity as a queen consort and her final embrace of potential martyrdom."
-Giles Tremlett, Catherine of Aragon: Henry's Spanish Queen

an actual wide variety of bodytypes
80s fashion, alt looks, & mullets
feral women doing sports and violence aka my favourite kind of feminism
