My sister made me a tea pet and I'm so happy! It's so fucking cute

I was a huge fan of the velveteen rabbit as a little kid. The idea that love makes things Real really resonated with tiny me. And the idea that tea pets gain a soul over time from being used and being fed tea reminded me. So my sister made my a little bunny!

Hello! I really like your work in introducing different binaries to view male androphilia other than masc and fem (like wen-wu). I wanted to ask that since wen often outranked wu back then, was wen type masculinity associated with topping or bottoming more? I actually like this binary the most as it talks about presentation while keeping in mind at the core this is about men/masculinities without necessarily implying into receiving and giving dynamics but I wanted to know if I am wrong about this

Some things about wen-wu: Just like balance of yin and yang, it was introduced into modern scholarship about gender especially Chinese masculinity in response to the orientalist takes that otherized and often portrayed Asian men as inferior, closer to women in terms of status, when compared to colonial masculinity.

A blend of wen and wu characteristics are emphasized in each individual for a well-rounded personality. Popular example from danmei is Hua Cheng from Tian Guan Ci Fu coming on top after battling both wen and wu factions of heaven. Often, capable emperors and modern politicians are described as exhibiting perfect balance of wen and wu. Wen and wu can be employed to create contrast between characters like Shi Qiang and Wang Miao representing wen and wu respectively in Three-Body (2023).

I don't know if there are any straight forward in associated with topping or bottoming. One thing I know from Passions of the Cut Sleeve: The Male Homosexual Tradition in China by Bret Hinsch is that rank often determined who topped and who bottomed. To be on top meant to be on top. Rank and seniority depends on age too. This is what was (allegedly) exported to Japan and became the basis for nenja x wakashu dynamics [which later gave birth to the seme/uke dynamics in Japan and its international variations in other BL producing nations (more on this in the links given at the top of this post)]. There are hierarchies/pecking order within military and scholarly settings, just as elsewhere, with clear seniority among members.

Sworn-brotherhood also had elder brother/younger brother ordering.

Other than stories of emperors and male favorites upon whom (and their family) the former lavishly bestowed the highest titles (ministerial, civil services, military, peerage, etc.), there are also tales of love between scholars like “Shared Pillow Tree" about Pan Zhang & Wang Zhongxian. As for love between men in military, (among others) there is Emperor Wen of Chen and Han Zigao who met and fell in love when the former was merely a general.

Works that survive in history seldom talk about common people's lives. Above all else, the chances of finding explicit depiction of physical dynamics is also very rare, even when it is about popular figures in history.

I think there is some scope for discussion on how these depictions have fared historical with respect to BL (such as with shadeism/colorism) as @linlin1905 pointed out in this conversation.
