Ghouls night out
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wei wuxian#lan wangji#Scopophobia#Don't be mean Lan Wangji - the dead girl aesthetic is a curated one. Support women's rights to look dead!#I have been waiting for this scene for ages...the ghost girl entourage is such a good look for WWX.#And by gods does the audio drama actually do something interesting with one of them.#Namely that we actually get to see WWX talk with them and learn about who they were and what they left behind.#I love necromancer characters but it's way too common for them to be like “Go! Ghost no.145!” like they're a pokemon#and not...you know...someone who had a whole life that they left behind.#I love me a necromancer who has an awareness to whose soul/body they are using. It adds a lot of flavour!#MDZS is a little hit or miss with this. I think the fans do a lot of the work with making Mo Xuanyu a bigger character.#Yi City has this in spades. Even though we don't individually get character backstories#We get many painful reminders about how these 'corpses' were people.#We also get a few lines about how WWX used whatever corpses he could get his hands on (including grandparents - Woof!)#MDZS often (but not always) likes to remind us that every sacrifice and every ghost was a person.#It is so close to nailing the landing regarding the deconstruction of the necromancer character.#Anyhow. You may have noticed the uptick in quality in the last two comics. Rule of three means next one is going to be a treat B*)#See you all very soon!

Since teaching really does seem to be Lan Qiren’s passion I like to think about a modern Lan Qiren who is really good about pursuing possible diagnoses and treatment of learning/developmental disabilities of children entrusted to his care.

by wordsonpage (@ronniexian)
T, 2k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: "Wei Ying, Wei Ying, you are a menace." "Oh, yeah," Wei Wuxian plays along. "And what are you gonna do about it, Hanguang-jun?" Changed for the Better
by tigerlilly3224
M, 4k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: “T-They have busy lives. It’s hard for them to step away.” Wei Wuxian didn’t usually stutter. He was tripping over his words. Trying to justify the accusations faster than his mouth can form the sounds. His brain brought up the long prepared list of why the Jiang’s did and always would come first. Lan Wangji narrowed his gaze. “You lower your own worth for their sake. You told me you wrote wrong answers on assignments so you wouldn't get a better grade than Jiang Cheng. You are your own person Wei Ying and you live as if you take up too much space. I want -“ {aka. college roommates wangxian learn to navigate their lives and heal each other along the way ✨🫶} ** on page panic attack, past referenced/implied emotional child abuse & neglect // rating due to topics both mentioned & implied but there is no spice here just feels

Having one soulmate in this life is enough
by secretninjagirl (@shawoloser)
M, 1k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: “Wei Ying, come to bed,” he says. His eyes are still so soft, and his voice is so warm. “Yes,” Wei Wuxian says, wondering if his voice sounds as unsteady as he feels. He doesn’t know what this means, but he’s powerless to resist his soulmate. He will take whatever Lan Wangji is willing to give him. ------ A "missing scene" of sorts from episode 43 of The Untamed. The pan out over the Jingshi with their song playing felt very much to me like a subtextual sex scene. So I wrote that hypothetical scene.
~*~
🔒 For good
by apathyinreverie (@apathyinreverie)
M, 6k, Wangxian & Xiyao | Kay's Rec
Summary: Wangji should have seen this coming. (Kind of mafia AU. Where the Jins are their usual treacherous selves but Wei Ying is perfectly capable of getting revenge. Which they absolutely deserve. For having made his Lan Zhan so much as frown.)
~*~
🔒 Bright the Day We Met
by ereshai (@ereshai)
G, 1k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: Xichen wasn’t even sure Wangji was open to finding his soulmate. The mechanism of soulmate matching was inexact and open to misinterpretation. It was very frustrating. Wangji had always preferred certainty.

M, 54k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: One of the fragments of Wei Wuxian's soul, splintered during the first siege of the Burial Mounds, uses the energy released by the Yin Tiger Tally and flees backwards through time to another moment where Wei Wuxian was close to death – after the fall of Lotus Pier, at the hands of Jiang Wanyin. Knowing how his first life will end, Wei Wuxian decides to hide his survival, and leave the cultivation world behind.

Tell Me To Stay
by YilingSani (@yiling-sani)
G, 14k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: With heavy steps, Wei Ying walks back to the living room and plops down on the sofa again. His silver eyes travel around the room for a while, mind flooded by memories of sunny mornings, meals and cosy evenings together and all the surfaces they fucked each other on. Then they stop at the door of Lan Zhan's study. If he walked out right now... If Lan Zhan walked out right now and spoke to him, Wei Ying would throw the backpack away, hold his boyfriend close and never let him go. He begs. He begs it would happen. He begs Lan Zhan to somehow feel how much on the edge Wei Ying is balancing right now. "Please," he whispers - the tightening feeling in his throat is slowly choking him while the silver eyes threaten to fill with tears. "Please, Lan Zhan."
~*~
Heart of hearts
by apathyinreverie (@apathyinreverie)
M, WIP, Series, 40k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: It won't be until several days later that Wangji will know to be grateful for Jiang Wanyin’s insistence to split up in their search. (Or, JC and LWJ spend those months searching separately and LWJ ends up finding Wei Ying a little earlier. Wei Ying who doesn’t remember anything beyond his own name. So, LWJ takes his chance and takes Wei Ying home. To Gusu.)
~*~
💙🔒 your heart is mine to fortify
by sunflowersfield
G, 2k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: A few mornings later, Wei Ying stares up at his ceiling and listens to the wind blowing through the willow tree outside his window. It is 4:15 a.m. and he is wide awake once more. For a while, the howling wind is the only sound he hears, and then, there is movement from somewhere below him. The opening and closing of cabinet doors. Light footsteps tapping on a hardwood floor. The clanging of metal against glass. Lan Zhan has arrived at the bakery. Wei Ying allows himself to be swept away by the symphony of sounds that Lan Zhan unknowingly creates as he begins his day. His breathing slows, and his body relaxes bit by bit. He imagines that he is listening to a lullaby written just for him. And just like a lullaby, the symphony guides him back to sleep. Or: Wei Ying lives in the apartment above Lan Zhan's bakery. Or part 2: Wei Ying learns how to accept Lan Zhan's help.

Brand New Moves
by tawaen
T, 7k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: In the most ambitious heist ever planned, Team Rocket attempts to steal two legendary Pokémon – one from the Burial Mounds Gym Leader, Wei Ying; and one from the Snow White Pavilion Gym Leader, Lan Zhan. These two former rivals are paired up to battle against one another for the first time since becoming Gym Leaders! Will they be able to defeat Team Rocket? Or will they loose their composure and their Pokémon? (Just joking, Wei Ying and Lan Zhan never even notice Team Rocket. They only have eyes for each other!)
~*~
marital customs
by shijieswife
M, WIP, 2k, Wangxian | Kay's Rec
Summary: Cangse, with the growing up on a mountain under the hand of an immortal cultivator who had not descended in several hundred years, often has not a clue, about a single one of the customs down the mountain. She has very little idea of customs, or respect for them, despite her decades living down from the mountain. And this, unlike other things, is something Changze has no experience in either - the art of dealing with suitors for your first born child’s hand.

So I have finished MDZS book one and I want to highlight some iconic moments, in no particular order
- "Wei Wuqian" way to call a man broke in front of his crush
- Just the waiter in general, he is such a dramatic gossip
- NIE HUAISANG AS A WHOLE (I love him so much, selfless baby who needs protecting. Fuck the slander, I love him)
- Wei Wuxian thinking Lan Wangji was possessed because he wasn't rising to Wei Wuxian's torment anymore
- Mo Xuanyu's makeup- iconic
-APPLE MY BABY
- Lan Wangji pulling his sword on Wei Wuxian for daring to show him porn
- Nie Huaisang being upset the porn was destroyed
- Just the friendship dynamic between WWX, NHS, and JC in the flashback (I so hope it stays like that /s)
- Drunk Lan Wangji, perfect in every detail except his boots being on the wrong feet
- Wei Wuxian pretending he couldn't play the flute- leading to music so bad Lan Qiren wakes up to scold him
- WEN NING, I LOVE YOU
- Wei Wuxian playing up at the mere mention of 'cut sleeve'
- "Why would Wei Wuxian want a gay donkey riding mad man?" (Paraphrased of course)
- Nie Mingjue fucking exploding (RIP my pretty man, you will be missed)
- Lan Xichen is so pretty and I'm glad Wei Wuxian agrees
- On a similar note- Wei Wuxian agreeing that Lan Xichen is the prettier one because he smiles more
- "Look at the the way [Lan Wangji] is glaring, you'd think I was putting my arms around his wife" BITCH YOU ARE
- Wei Wuxian watching excitedly for Lan Wangji’s reaction to the alcohol
- “Wei Wuxian didn’t know whether to laugh or cry” OH GOD, NOT ANOTHER ONE
- THE FACE WASHING SCENE!!!
- “Do you like rabbits?” “Yes” (My boyfriend and I quote this all the time lmao)
- “what about this one?” “Mine” Then paired with wwx cockblocking himself…no he is not talking about Bichen
- Calling the severed corpse “good buddy” because they didn’t know his name (idk, this just gets me)
- Wei Wuxian talking about how well defined the fucking half-corpse of good buddy is. Then giving him a couple of slaps on his abs
(This certainly isn't a full list, these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head lmao)

f i n a l l y finished reading the novel (a stream of random crazy thoughts, sorry not sorry.) And I’d say that, as for me, it’s way, way better than the untamed that just feels like its vanilla version, to be honest (though I don’t mean that it’s completely bad.) I liked that I finally understood more details I missed out or did not know about earlier. I liked the author’s style and humour, the thing that even secondary characters seem unforgettable, and also the thing that there are no fully good or bad characters, i.e. everyone has the traits that you can love or hate.
of course, I like wangxian in my own way, and after reading, I got a weird thought like these two could actually be each other’s somewhat reflection. Though Lan Wangji looked like an example of “perfection”, still and cold, he seemed to wanting to do something reckless or something beyond his principles, while Wei Wuxian, being that one epitome of a mess, had thoughts about just having a peaceful life (that would include LWJ.) And I actually liked LWJ as a character himself, i.e. even out of wangxian, as I liked him in all its adaptations. He seems to be deeper than just a human version of an iceberg (a special “I feel you bro” moment when he gets drunk, as, for certain reasons, I’m pretty sure it would be exactly me if I drank, though I’m not into it at all.)
it was a surprise for me to actually love the yi city plot, it could really be good even as a separate story. A more surprise for me was to like Xue Yang, who managed to become one of my favourite characters. He’s a bitch, but an interesting bitch. I can’t help but love the antagonists in this story.
I felt sorry for my baby Wen Ning who was punched/slapped/thrown away almost every freaking time he appeared in a scene, god. And I was glad that, in the end, he did decide to choose something for himself and it’s not just following WWX.
But.
Jiang Cheng will remain my very favourite character in the story. He literally seems one of the most realistic characters to me, who’s not perfect (and no one can be perfect actually), who is fucked up enough, but who’s also able to care about the ones he appreciates, and I liked this imperfection (or maybe it’s also a response of my inner self, who knows.) There were the moments when I couldn’t agree with his actions, but I also think he did not deserve any of that hell happened to him, to his family, to their Sect, and I felt sorry for him. And his line with WWX will stay the most hurtful to me. And as much as I like WWX as well and could understand his actions and motives when he wanted to save the ones who helped him, I won’t fully understand his decision just, eventually, to leave the person who was his family; to leave in the moment when he needed him the most in a very difficult period. Despite their disagreements and difficulties they had between each other. I guess it’s a clear example of what happens when you don’t talk to a person to solve whatever you two need to solve. And it’s very sad.
Actually, there are more thoughts in my mind, and they could be sorted, but when I write, most of the thoughts fly away.

Fic Finder
~*~
1. Hi! Can you help me look for this fic (cause its been months since the last time I read it) wherein WWX is LWJ’s husband and he is teaching in gusu wearing gusulan robes? I remember students likes wwx that one sect leader went to Cloud Recesses to insult wwx for seducing his son.
Btw, the fic includes photos of WWX wearing gusulan (white robes) (I think they got the image where Xiao Zhan was Shi Ying)
~*~
2. Hi! Can you help me find these 2 fics. Thank you very much
A) Twitter thread fic wherein nyancheng went to book signing of his fav author zewujun.  I remember after the book signing, lxc reach out his hand for handshake and when they shakehands, bolts were felt and they went into heat/rut. Apparently they are soulmates. Nyancheng was embarrassed because his ears and tails pop out due to heat. (I actually forgot lxc animal trait)
B) Modern Au where in wwx is in the airport with police and ambulance because apparently wwx plane went missing for 13 years (???). The people in the plane (including wwx) thought that they have been in the plane for few hours but outside the plane, its been years. Wwx didn’t even aged up while his family (including lwj) aged up
2B)
看客散去唯你我不忘 | the world forgets but i still remember you by prettyxianxian (T, 11k, wangxian, modern, manifest au, flashbacks, multiple POV, angst w happy ending, hurt/comfort, everyone lives au, insecurities, JC & WWX reconciliation, good parent YZY & JFM)
~*~
3. Hey! I hope you guys are doing great and resting in the midst of everything in life and updating this blog as well. Unfortunately, I fear I'm here to add to your burdens 😅
So I was looking for this fic. I remember it being set in the Canon era where Wei Wuxian is just extremely intelligent, and he goes on this  whole tirade about how he came to the conclusion concerning the waterborne abyss witht the use of talismanic theory in the library while Lan Wangji makes the charcoal for him to write and at the end Wangji is just so fascinated by Wuxian while the latter is like, "sorry for unloading that whole thing on you" kind of vibe.
I can't seem to remember what the name is. I was looking for it in my history, and it's just so difficult when it's just that kne scene you remember. Do you suppose you could help my misery. Thank you in advance. @poetic-writes
FOUND? 🧡 Stunted, Starving Juvenility by TomatenMark (E, 663k, WangXian, WIP, Fix-it of sorts, Talisman master WWX, Not JFM Friendly, Study Arc, Getting together, Fluff and Angst, Engagement)
~*~
4. Hi! I'm looking for a fic where wwx is a musician in university living in this huge dorm. He sometimes hears beautiful piano music (lwj) coming from somewhere in the building but he doesn't know where. They start to play music together and don't know each other's identities. They don't find out each other's identities until graduation or something. @its0nnetflix
FOUND? sounds like through a window softly by impossibletruths (T, 14k, wangxian, modern, college/university au, music au, neigbors, graduate school, music as a love language) on AO3 except that LWJ is a violin player
~*~
5. okay, i once started reding a wangxian fic that was based on another fic called "the simplest way forward" and it was like this, wangxian were roommates and someone dropped Yuan off at their door and that's all i remember because i didn't finish it and now i can't find it, help me please and thank you <3 @akutamichan
FOUND? so take my hand (take my whole life too) by cicer (E, 92k, WangXian, Modern AU, Accidental Baby Acquisition, oh my god they were roommates, Idiots in Love, Mutual Pining, Implied/Referenced Drug Addiction, Implied/Referenced Child Abuse, this fic is not about trauma, it’s about the yearning, slowburn)
~*~
6. hi! i was looking for an E rated sbwy gym fic where wwx thinks of him and lwj as really good gymbros. one point theyre at a smoothie(?) place where wwx says hes glad they started seeing each other (as friends) but lwj interprets it as romantic. jc had said wwx was feminine when theyre were 14 or smth and so wwx has a mild complex abt it. i rmbr wwx has an old flip phone and nhs makes a joke how wwx is rich enough to buy a new smartphone instead, also when lwj sends photos it takes forever to load in. i think lwj did soundtracks for movies too? and wwx mentions watching those movies for him. sry thats all i rmbr! i believe its possibly deleted, and if so does anyone have it downloaded?
#6 has been privated I think 😓
~*~
7. For the next fic finder I was wondering if you could help me find two specific Hogwarts AUs?
- Moved to a YiZhan FF/ITMF post
The second one is really vague and I’m sorry for that but I remember a WangXian fic where Wei Wuxian is part Veela and maybe he’s a Slytherin or Hufflepuff? I can’t seem to remember anything else besides there being a focus on Wei Wuxian’s volatile nature and battle prowess due to his Veela blood. He may have also killed a guy, or at least severely harmed some guy in self defense. I loved their world building and I’m so upset that I’ve lost both of them. Thank you for the help in advance.
~*~
8. Hey! Been following for a while and enjoying all the finders and recs from this page!
I have a request though, I'm trying to look for this fiction where wei ying is a general (i think) and lan zhan is a dragon, and there's a war between all sect, with the lans, the nie, and wen on one side, against the jin and jiang on the other. There's also animal shifters among the gentry where I think the jiang might be water birds?? I can't quite remember. The jiang and Jin end up defeated and the others win. Wei ying.is also a genius tactician and is respected by the other side of the war. I can't remember the name of the fiction and I'm desperate to find it. I think it's a completed fic too
Many thanks if you find it! (And could you tag me so I definitely see the post this request shows up if its found?? I forget things easily) @elderredraccoon
FOUND! Crossing Paths by Ilona22 (M, 21k, wangxian, shapeshifter au, graphic depictions of violence, war between sects, war crimes, not JC friendly, happy ending)
~*~
9. Hi! I'm looking for a WangXian fic where WWX and LWJ go back in time but WWX goes back a very long time before his birth. He holes up in the Burial Mounds and becomes notorious as the YLLZ. He's also pretty depressed I think? When WWX realizes that LWJ is born he storms into the Cloud Recesses and demands LWJ's hand in marriage -- LWJ is only 12 (I think) at this point and LQR and LXC are horrified but LWJ agrees without their input (he still has his original memories). WWX starts out just treating LWJ like a child he's very fond of but when LWJ gets older and becomes an adult, they resume a sexual relationship and I think WWX comments on how they're slowly shifting their dynamics from Kind Mentor WWX/Young Mentee LWJ to Bratty Bubbly WWX/Calm Dominant LWJ. I remember really liking this fic but I don't remember what any of its tags were or whether it was a single fic or a series of one shots etc etc. I would appreciate the help! @sssrha
FOUND? An Unusual Betrothal by ahealthydoseof (G, 74k, wangxian, time travel, age difference, immortality, BAMF WWX, younger LWJ, older WWX, misunderstandings, fluff & crack, worried parents, rabbits, food, non-sexual intimacy, murder, fix-it of sorts, developing relationship, humor, arranged marriage, jealousy, friendship, family feels, dysfunctional family, fatherhood, angst, hurt/comfort, mentor WWX, natural disasters, sworn brotherhood, serious injuries, kissing)
~*~
10. Looking for a fic, please help! the wens had won the war years ago. I only remember a scene where lan wangji and the juniors were in a shop or restaurant of some sort and wen xu comes in and intimidates lan wangji to where the juniors defend him. He thanks them later saying it’s hard for him to deal with wen xu. (he had lan wangji in captivity during the war, lan wangji still has Nightmares about it). I don’t remember where wei ying is or if he “died”. Thanks!!!!
~*~
11. Hello! I'm looking for 2 fics that I have wanted to rec on ITMFs so many times but just can't find! Both are canon divergent, not modern au.
A) it is a sort of eldritch wwx. He was eaten by a demon that like. Consumed his memories and wanted to be wwx? And then he gets back to sunshot, vomits up wen chaos teeth, has sex with lan zhan and also eats cows whole? Its a good one!
B) this one I remember just one scene. It is post sun shot, a confrontation at the jin banquet with yllz wwx. Yu Ziyuan is alive and checks his core in public and realizes he is coreless (i really think its her! But maybe someone else...). This might have been schemed by wen qing? Fix it after this point i think. @absurdlyadmiredarmchair
11A)
FOUND! You are what you eat by deliciousblizzardshark (E, 17k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, Eldritch WWX, Horny LWJ, Body Horror, Possession, of a sort, Cannibalism, kind of, Mild Gore, Teeth, Fluff and Humor, Smut, Oral Sex, Anal Sex, Monster sex, Switching, Light BDSM, Rimming, Self-Lubrication, Seriousness treated Crackily, Implied/Referenced Torture, Dead WWX)
11B)
FOUND! seldom all they seem by Fahye (E, 24k, wangxian, canon divergence, arranged marriage, or rather arranged betrothal, weapongrade thirst)
not found Yearning for Miles by Murahi (M, 378k, WangXian, LQR/SiSi, Canon Divergence, Angst, Fluff, Slow burn, Mutual Pining, seeing the future) There is a scene like this quite far into the fic. It's chapter 64 to be precise 😊
~*~
12. anyone know of a fic where wwx falls into the wen treasure room after sunshot, it's the only thing i remember about it
I don't know what the fic for #12, but I think I've read it before and Wen Qing & Wen Ning show a group of people onto the Wen throne room through a back door, and WN had to open it as it could only be opened by a male Wen. There was a big Wen family tree on the wall of this secret entrance.
FOUND! Better Things to Do with a Flute in Wartime by Anonymous (E, 365k, MingXian, WangXianJue, Sunshot Campaign, Fix-It, Magical Healing Cock, Dual Cultivation, mild Dom/Sub, Undernegotiated Kink, Golden Core Reveal, Breathplay, Choking, Painplay, Subdrop, Topdrop, Major Character Injury, Canon Divergence, What-If, Temperature Play, Orgasm Delay/Denial, Fisting, Spanking, PTSD, Trauma, Self-Harm, (in the pursuit of cultivational badassery) Something similar happens in chapters 43-45
Not FOUND! ❤️ Gentians in bloom by teawater (M, 251k, wangxian, Canon Divergence, AU after cold spring, Political Marriage, Dysfunctional Family, Implied/Referenced Self-Harm, Fix-It, Hurt/Comfort, LQR bashing (not really), POV Multiple, Implied/Referenced Suicide, Eventual Happy Ending, BAMF WWX, JC is actually a lot better than canon, Implied/Referenced Child Abuse, YZY bashing (again not completely)) the one mentioned with the wen family tree is, in chapter 33

13. Hi
Firstly, I want to say thank you, this blog is awesome, and I have found so many good Fics to read as well as find ones that I have lost or forgot to bookmark.
Secondly, I would like help to find a fic, from what I remember Wei Ying was drunk on the rooftop when someone approached. In his drunken state, he thinks it was Lan Wangji that showed up so he goes on saying things like are you here to punish me again. He also asks why Lan Wangji hates him so much, but the whole entire time it was actually Lan Xichen he was talking to. I think it takes place after he got punished for drinking in Cloud Recess, and then something happens and he almost falls off the roof but Lan Xichen catches him. Lan Wangji had apparently witnessed the whole thing and tried to apologize but Lan Xichen coldly tells him the apology should be given to Wei Ying instead when he wakes up.
Again, thank you so much in advance.

14. Hi 👋,  for the next fic finder - im trying to find a fic i saw awhile back. I cant remember too clearly but i think lwj got separated from the lan clan when he was young and found himself in a brothel. I remember when he was young - he only had to clean etc but as he was growing,  his good looks started getting noticed. I think he also asked someone to curse him so he looks hideous or something.

16. Strange one again, I'm looking for a fic that mentions the situation at Lotus Pier is made harder by the fact that JFM has his servants, YZY has hers, but because they're so separate, nobody knows whether his servants outrank hers or whose orders take precdence, and how WWX gets tangled in it. Pretty sure it's a Lan commenting on the disharmony, but not 100%.

18. So I’m looking for a specific fic that I know is on ao3, can’t remember the name of the story nor the author though.
And that’s after looking through my history on ao3 for over an hour.
All I really remember from it was that it was short, like one to ten chapters long.
(And yes I do consider 10 chapters short)
It took place in cloud recess study arc, jiang Cheng punched or got into a physical fight with Jin Zixuan, in the classroom if I remember correctly.
Wei wuxian was injured. Somehow, story could be after the waterborne abyss.
Oh and the Jiangs asking WWX why he didn’t defend Yanli. Despite the fact he’s injured on the floor. @ravenwithwings

Are we ready? It's Time...
For more GOOD OMENS WILD META.
I have been chewing on this one for awhile. Like, really ruminating on it. Probably because it's so far-reaching. For me, for others. It's a matter of the Journey From The Final Fifteen.
I will openly admit it, when I first came off the Final Fifteen, sometime in August/September (yeah, I was so worried about Season 2 I didn't watch it for a month after it came out and I realized I was right to do so.). I was, and still am, heartbroken. I was angry, despairing and wondering what the point of an ending like that was. I was angry at Neil Gaiman, I was angry at all the creators behind Good Omens. I was angry at Aziraphale, first, and then after about five minutes, I was angry at Crowley too.
Note, I was never mad at David Tennant or Michael Sheen. I respected their acting choices so much in the Final Fifteen. It was beautiful. It ripped my soul out through my chest. They are both brilliant. I know everyone has their favorite GO counterparts - they are mine.
Then a funny thing happened. A few weeks passed. I started fumbling around Good Omens Tumblr again. I'd been a big contributor during Detroit: Become Human (of which I am still a HUGE FAN, god I love that game.), and until Good Omens 2 came out, I was on the side of Good Omens fandom. Reading, mostly, but at the time I was very deep into my Wangxian fixation (haaaaah, I say, like I have ever left it. My dream AU is Aziraphale and Crowley in the Sunshot Campaign, causing trouble with Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian.). That changed after Final Fifteen. Now I was hurt, I was looking for comfort. I was looking for my fellow fans.
Clearly, I found you, you gorgeous bastards (saying nothing about your moms, unless you want me to). I started to read more meta, started having my own thoughts and carefully posting them. Reading fanfiction, and ... becoming less angry. Stepping back, to really look at the story. I was swallowing content like Aziraphale swallowed ox ribs. In the midst of this, I realized this wasn't The End of Good Omens, but merely the second part of a Trilogy. I'm a writer, I know what the second part of a trilogy is. It's where your heart breaks, it's the cliffhanger episode. I stopped being mad, and started loving the craft. I started to actually look at the scenes instead of just watching.
With that, I started to realize I had been missing so much. I realized I had been wrong, about a lot of things. My perspectives, and thoughts changed. Aziraphale wasn't at fault, he was a victim of the situation as much as Crowley was. Crowley left the bookshop, but he never left Aziraphale. He waited. He's still waiting. As more time passed, the more my thoughts evolved. Changed, formed anew, and I felt better for it. I decided to be hopeful about the whole thing. Yes, it was bad now, but there were enough signs and easter eggs to say this wasn't the ending we were going to get.
I healed, in short. I forgave. I'm waiting for our next chapter, because I know this story isn't done, not by a long shot. I'm waiting to see how our heroes will cope.
Rather like, I think, Aziraphale and Crowley will. The initial pain is going to fade, the anger, the feeling of rejection (whereas they will some day realize neither one of them were in fact, rejected.). The longing is going to kick in. They're going to miss one another more than they will ever be angry. There's going to be moments of grace, of forgiveness, partnered with sadness. What I think we forget, sometimes, is that Aziraphale and Crowley are 6000 years old. They've fought before. They'll fight again. With the fullness of time though, they'll come back to one another. They'll talk again.
Right now though, they've had time. Time to hopefully process (I really, really hope Aziraphale has had SOME time to process), time let the anger fade a little. Maybe not enough time - some of us here still need time - but enough to let them wonder ... is it really over? Maybe to realize, no. No it's not.
Time doesn't heal all wounds, but time does allow you to find equilibrium. I hope time will do the same for our angel and our demon. I know time helped me. I hope time will help us all.

WAKE UP , I'TS TIME TO VOTE🗣️
You know what that means right? The ships and storylines have officially been chosen!!!!
This time the plots and titles won't be revealed (you can scream and pray but, nothing will come out of my mouth🤐)
In fact, I asked my friends (except for those who had made special requests for ships) to comment on the plots in their own way, so next to the ships you will find "()"… Those comments say enough
The two exceptions are: Xue Yang x Song Lan (click here to see the storyline) - Lan Qiren x Wei Wuxian (click here to see the storylines)
REMEMBER THAT THOSE WHO ARE NOT CHOSEN WILL BE IN THE NEXT VOTES (or not, my desire will decide)
remember that there will be no updates today but if you miss me / are curious about the work here you can find my profile!

your top five lines or scenes from odd geometry, chs 1-6!
ooooooooooo my top 5 lines....in no particular order:
1. cheating but this bit:
[Wei Wuxian] tore it in half, since it was so long, and tied one half in Jianyu’s hair in a style that mimicked his own, and tied his own hair back up with the other half. “Now we have both halves. We match. We’re connected, even when we’re apart.”
He cares about this kid so so much and its everything to me
2. this exchange between wei wuxian and jiang cheng:
“Because I missed you.” (JC)
“Bullshit.” (WWX)
i just think its very true to their characters...
3. this from the wen indoctrination camp:
“I am the best, Jin-gongzi.” Wei Wuxian took a breath and pushed all of his rising indignation back down. “I am the best at what I do. Maybe that isn’t swordsmanship, but so what? Does everyone have to be good at swordsmanship to be the best at something?”
it's the first time we really see wei wuxian's pride in himself come out in full force ... thank god we're seeing more of this later
4. this because i love my ocs
“What the fuck, Wen Chao?!” screamed Yu Xiulan.
shes just the best girl in the world sorry
5. THIS. in xuanwu cave:
“I am not afraid.” Lan Wangji was looking at him with a very serious expression. “I am not afraid.”
probably one of the most important lines in the entire fic tbh.
BONUS top 5 scenes:
1. the night hunt wherein lan wangji uses his own sweat as a weapon
2. wei wuxian reuniting with jiang yanli
3. wei wuxian and lan wangji sitting together on a pier in lotus pier
4. wei wuxian encountering jin guangyao... i wish i could say more but my beloved first mate and my vizier know what i mean by that...
5. jiang yanli discussing things w nie mingjue and lan xichen as they play wei chi/go

Dancing through the night
@incorrectly-quoting-mxtx here is the ficlet that resulted from your prompt marinating in my brain for the past two days. Thank you for the wait and the sweet words, I hope you like this!
If any of you have any ideas you'd like me to write, feel free to mention me in a post and I may write it if the inspiration gods bless me!
---
"Is there anything you can't do to perfection?" Wei Wuxian begins, a fond look in his eyes and a teasing smile on his lips as he and his husband walk into their inn suite. "I don't think there's anything you don't excel at!"
Lan Wangji's eyes color a light pink at that as he sits at the table, a pot of wine awaiting, courtesy of the innkeeper.
Though he is used to hearing such words left and right, praise an appanage of his reputation, his heart always stutters whenever Wei Wuxian sets on a tirade about how great his Hanguang-Jun is. The words flow so easily out of him, like he's laying out obvious facts that anybody would see, poorly pretending to be unaware of the effect he has on Lan Wangji. It hasn't been a rare occurence for the man to have to shut Wei Wuxian up with kisses - otherwise he would have gone on for hours, waxing poetic about his husband's everything.
However, tonight is going to go different.
"There is something." Lan Wangji responds, pouring a cup of wine for Wei Wuxian, who gratefully downs it before taking his seat on Lan Wangji's lap, arms coming to circle his neck loosely. The closeness is both comforting and electric, eyes locked lovingly.
"What could there be that the great, unparalleled Hanguang-Jun hasn't mastered yet?" Wei Wuxian asks, letting one of his hands cup Lan Wangji's face, thumb stroking his cheek.
"Dancing."
"Oh?" Wei Wuxian feigns shock, "We cannot let such a simple skill evade someone as amazing as you, can we?"
Lan Wangji lets his hands caress over Wei Ying's thighs, parting robes. "Hm? What do you suggest?"
"Fortunately for you, I am an amazing dancer, and I can teach you!"
Before Lan Wangji can protest, Wei Wuxian pulls him up to his feet, and he has to catch himself out of the saccharine sweetness of having been held and holding his beloved before he falls flat on his face.
"We need music." Lan Wangji attempts a protest, though his hands come to rest around Wei Wuxian's slim waist nevertheless.
Wei Wuxian smiles, winding his arms around Lan Wangji again and begins humming a familiar tune, his voice melodious around the unspoken lyrics. He urges Lan Wangji to move, steps slow and close together, a simple sequence of moving together into an imaginary circle.
Lan Wangji's brows furrow in concentration, and Wei Wuxian finds the sight adorable enough to let a small giggle escape him before he leans to leave a butterfly kiss on the tip of his husband's nose. He stops humming to do it, and Lan Wangji stills, embarrassed.
"Wei Ying. The music."
"You know it too."
Lan Wangji wraps an arm around Wei Wuxian's waist, firmer, and fills up the tiny space between them. He picks up the song where Wei Ying left off, and tries to mirror the movements Wei Wuxian just showed him.
He thinks of the way he composed that song, how easily it had come to him and how difficult it had been for him to understand what he was feeling for this annoying, rule-breaking, intelligent, beautiful man that's now his companion for life.
He thinks of how he hummed this song thinking of him, when he was missing, when he wasn't himself, when he died.
He thinks of how he'd sang it as lullaby for A-Yuan.
He thinks of how it had been the first song Wei Ying played when he returned.
They move in tandem to their song, little circles around the wide room, and some time between gazing at his beloved like he hung the moon and the stars in the sky, and delighting in how easily he picked up those simple movements, Wei Wuxian joins in the duet.
They hum and dance like that for a while, unhurried, enjoying one another and the memories they had with their song, adding yet another one to cherish with Wangxian as a background melody.
One day, perhaps, they'd write a sequel.

Three years after the last time he saw Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian received a summons to Lotus Pier. The note found him and Lan Wangji out in the wilds of Qinghe where they have been hunting some form of beast. It had been terrorizing the local commoners and the Nie had not been doing enough, so Wei Wuxian had packed up Little Apple and dragged Lan Wangji on another wild adventure.
So far the wild adventure had consisted mostly of rain, mud, and sleeping in the dirt, with no sign of the beast and a number of surprisingly un-terrified villagers, so Wei Wuxian was about ready to put it down to wild rumor and head back to the Cloud Recesses. At which point he received the note from Jiang Cheng, and decided that he might as well see what his once-shidi wanted.
It wasn't that he didn't want to go back to Lotus Pier. For all that had happened after, it was still the first home Wei Wuxian had ever known and, when he let himself, he missed it with a fierceness that left him hollow. He just didn't let himself miss it often, because all that was in the past, and Wei Wuxian was focused on the present.
It took them several days to reach Lotus Pier, and when they got there, Jiang Cheng came storming out of his office like a thundercloud, glaring all the time. He looked thinner than the last time they had spoken, his cheekbones even more pronounced.
"Good," he snapped. "You're here. This way."
He led them through a rambling maze of corridors and open walkways that Wei Wuxian didn't remember - except he did remember, and it all smelled like home and loss and came to rest in a heavy weight in his belly where his nascent golden core spun and sparked merrily to itself. Jiang Cheng led them to the infirmary, where a young woman was lying on a bed.
"Is she alive?" Jiang Cheng asked.
Wei Wuxian looked at the woman, then at Jiang Cheng, his eyebrows climbing.
"Jiang Cheng, I'm not a -"
"You're the foremost expert on ghosts in the world, Wei Wuxian," Jiang Cheng interrupted him. "She was gored by a Soul Devouring Demon two weeks ago."
Wei Wuxian looked back at the girl, then took a careful step closer. The way she lay so still, her breath perfectly even...he reached out to touch her arm and feel for any traces of life.
"She eats, right?"
"She will swallow if someone feeds her, walk if someone leads her. If you leave her to herself she does nothing that a fierce corpse couldn't do, but I don't sense any resentful energy in her. I need to know if her soul is still...here...and if it can be restored."
"Well," Wei Wuxian said. "I can check, there are a few talismans I can look into...It's going to take a few hours."
"Good." Jiang Cheng turned to leave, then paused. "Thank you."
And then he was gone.
***
Jiang Cheng was doing paperwork when a runner came panting into his office, saying that Wei Wuxian wanted him. Jiang Cheng didn't run, because when sect leaders run sect members get uneasy, but he did walk slightly faster than was his wont.
When he got to the infirmary, he found Wei Wuxian looking tired, and Lan Wangji looking blank.
"Her soul's gone," Wei Wuxian reported quietly. "I've tried everything, Lan Wangji played Inquiry...there's nothing there. I'm sorry, Jiang Cheng."
Jiang Cheng nodded.
"Thank you, Wei Wuxian," he said again. "And...thank you for coming. I thought you would avoid Lotus Pier forever. It's good that you came home."
Wei Wuxian's eyes went wide and his mouth opened, but thank all the gods and ancestors for Lan Wangji, because he swept Wei Wuxian off to get some breakfast before Wei Wuxian could get emotions all over Jiang Cheng.
Once he was along, Jiang Cheng sighed and pressed his fingertips to the bridge of his nose. The little fool, what had she been thinking? Of course he knew what she was thinking - she was thinking that she owed a debt despite all they'd done to assure her otherwise, she was thinking that she had found a solution to the problem they'd been working on for three years, and she was thinking that it required a soulless body that yet lived.
And wouldn't you know it, there was a Soul Devouring Demon wandering the countryside, and wasn't it the Head Disciple''s duty to go after it.
"This is the last thing he would have wanted," he snapped at the slow-breathing corpse on the infirmary bed. "The last thing."
He could still remember when she had come to the Jiang, brought by Jin Guangyao under cover of night. One of his father's other bastards, Jin Guangyao had whispered once they had been private. It had been a year or more before Jin Guangshan had died, and nobody wanted to hand him a daughter to use and abuse the way he was already using Jin Guangyao. But her mother had died, and Jin Guangyao had had nowhere else to go. They'd been something close to friends by then, and Jin Guangyao knew that the Jiang were always ready to open their arms to a new disciple.
Nearly twenty years, Jiang Bao had been a member of his sect. In the last few years, as she'd grown into adulthood, she'd even become a friend.
And she loved her brother beyond reason. She'd told Jiang Cheng herself, how the small and smiling dark-eyed man had threatened the madame into giving her up when her mother had died with her contract unfulfilled, and brought her that same night to the door of the Jiang Clan of Yunmeng, where she was treated just like any of the other orphans Jiang Cheng had brought into his sect. Jiang Bao had believed that she owed Jin Guangyao her life, and now she had decided to pay the debt.
Jiang Cheng sighed again, and picked up the feather-light body to carry it away. Like all of Jin Guangshan's bastards, she was slim and short and lighter than she should have been - he wondered if Wei Wuxian's new body ran on nerves the same way Jin Guangyao and Jiang Bao did.
***
In the end the ritual was stupidly easy. The most complicated part was procuring a body - healthy with no wounds, yet soulless. Jiang Bao had so kindly provided, and left Jiang Cheng to either make use of her unwanted gift or squander it.
Jiang Cheng was no fool. He hadn't lived through the Sunshot Campaign and the lean years after the war by squandering opportunities. Wei Wuxian had checked for her soul and it was gone - but Jiang Cheng had known it was the moment the juniors brought her back, but he burned incense for her anyway. And he would carve her a tablet, not for the memorial hall because if all went well nobody would know that she was dead, but for his private shrine, where he kept the tablets for those the world would rather he not mourn. Wei Wuxian's tablet had stood there once. Jin Guangyao's stood there now.
Casting the ritual was a matter of scrawling some talismans, sacrificing some blood, and naturally having a soul handy to stuff into the body. That was the least of his problems, if he was being honest. Since he already had the soul and all - he wasn't about to let a man who had become family be tormented for a century, and it turned out that Nie Mingjue generated enough resentful energy to mast a quick and careful soul-syphoning spell.
He placed the softly glowing crystal over Jiang Bao's heart, and started channeling spiritual energy through it.
The crystal became bright, then brighter, until Jiang Cheng started to worry that the ritual was going to cost him his eyes as well as his head disciple, and then with a final flash like Zidian's power, the crystal cracked.
And Jiang Bao breathed deep, and screamed.
***
It took some time to get the newly reborn Jin Guangyao calmed down enough to have a conversation. The man was understandably distraught, and he'd been having a bad week even before he died, but he did eventually calm down.
Enough to glare at Jiang Cheng anyway.
"How could you let her do this?" he demanded, sitting on the edge of the altar table and gripping his knees as though holding on to them was the only thing stopping him from going for Jiang Cheng's throat. "I trusted you with her, Jiang Wanyin! My sister!"
Jiang Cheng could do nothing.
"I'd forbidden her from even considering it," he said. "She offered, repeatedly, and I said no, I said that you would rather stay dead than have your resurrection cost her life. So she went out and fed herself to a Soul Devouring Demon because she thought she owed you her life. Because, and I don't know if you've noticed this, you Jin are a bunch of stubborn assholes!"
Jin Guangyao sighed.
"Why did you even bring me back? I was supposed to be dead, Wanyin."
"Because you didn't deserve to die like that, and because I'm tired of letting go of people I care about."
Jin Guangyao looked up, just a flash of bright dark eyes under long lashes - it was truly amazing that nobody had ever seen the resemblance, but then again the Chief Cultivator and the Head Disciple of the Jiang had never had much cause to interact in public.
"I...Thank you, Jiang Cheng," he whispered. Then he took a deep breath. "How...how is Lan Xichen?"
"Still in seclusion," Jiang Cheng said gruffly. He'd thought they had been friends, at least. Over the years they had bonded over their friendship with Jin Guangyao, and he had to admit that it stung that Lan Xichen had refused to see him and sent his letters back unopened. "He's been refusing my messages. You know how he gets."
Jin Guangyao nodded. If there was anyone in the world who knew how the great Zewu-Jun got, it was the man who loved him more than anything.
"I'll send him a butterfly," he said. "You will have to put up with us cluttering up your sect for a while, I'm afraid."
"Don't be ridiculous," Jiang Cheng snapped before he could think. "You're staying, of course. I mean...if you want to - but I-"
"If you want me to stay," Jin Guangyao said, and smiled, "I will stay. And if Lan Xichen wishes to see me, he will come to see me here. Now let me get that butterfly sent. Did you know it's his birthday today?"

💙 Hold on to the reason that you stayed
by tawaen
M, Series, WIP, 62k, Wangxian
Summary: Once, Wen Qing vowed to preserve the lives of others, to rescue all living beings from their sufferings. It's a pity the Jin sect killed her. Now, no vows restrain her. (Two years after her death, the ghost of Wen Qing flees Golden Carp Tower with her brother. They accidentally kidnap Mo Xuanyu on the way out. Then, they set about collecting the scraps of Wei Wuxian's shattered soul.) Kay's comments: This series absolutely gutted me. Like, the end of the main story actually left in tears and it's been a while since I cried over fanfiction. Absolutely loved it, 10/10, would recommend, very cathartic. I loved Wen Qing's POV in the main story, how her anger and her thirst for revenge transformed the story and the cultivation society at large. Everything about this felt very satisfying and I loved how certain minor characters got second chances (via kidnapping) as well. Resentful ghost Wen Qing and martial god Wei Wuxian is such an awesome combination as well and Wangxian in this story were very adorable as well. Excerpt: She uses memories of her family as a bulwark against influence from the tormented yin energy. She needs this energy to become hers... If she fails here, A-Ning will be destroyed. Her family will never be given a proper burial. They will suffer eternally, trapped in the blood pool at the Burial Mounds and left out of the cycle of reincarnation forever. The people responsible will escape their karma. The resentment tries to crush her, wants to influence her and consumer her power, but Wen Qing has an anchor – Wen Ning's eyes widen slightly, and he reaches out to her. Pupils have returned to his eyes. “A-jie...” Her brother is finally conscious. Wen Qing will not fail him, not ever again. She pulls, letting her own will clash against the sentient portions of the power. They have suffered longer, but her resentment is fresh and fully remembered. She is not a fragment. She will not lose herself to them. The spirits go dormant – Wen Qing absorbed all the resentment fueling them. Her hand closes around Wen Ning's. “A-Ning.” She reaches out and brushes his hair out of his face with her other hand. She can actually feel the strands under her fingers. She no longer lingers as an incorporeal apparition, full as she is with resentful energy. “I missed you so much... But we need to leave quickly.” He leans into her touch briefly before nodding and pulling away. As she turns to grab a bag from one of the shelves so she can stow away the shattered pieces of the Yin Tiger Tally, Wen Ning gasps. Which is nearly impossible, since he doesn't breathe. When she looks back, she also releases a gasping sound. Hovering over the broken shards of the Tally, a nearly transparent image of Wei Wuxian flickers. His eyes glow red, as his ghostly image lifts an image of the fully completed Yin Tiger Tally, but then he disappears back to a flicker of ghost flame, fading.
pov wen qing, pov nie huaisang, canon divergence, thirteen years of wei wuxian's death, ghost wen qing, ghost general wen ning, mo xuanyu lives, rebirth, yiling wei sect, eventual lan wangji/wei wuxian, pov outsider, families of choice, cultivation sect politics, wen remnants deserve better, martial god wei wuxian, jiang family dynamics, golden core reveal, revenge

Xiantober 2023 - Day 2: Dragon!Xian
Word Count: 3,814 Pairing: Wangxian Tags: Immortal Dragon Wei Wuxian, Sacrifice Lan Wangji, Misunderstood dragon
“The sacrifice has been chosen.”
“Old man Lan isn’t going to like this.”
“He doesn’t have to like it. All of us suffer for this beast!”
“...Right you are.”
----------------------
“What?! Wangji? But why? I-” A pause.” I am older so I should be the sacrifice!” Lan Xichen looked at his uncle in disbelief. Of course, no one wanted to be sent to the beast, but he couldn’t stand the idea of his little brother dying at the hands of the old God.
“You know that is not how it works, Xichen.” Lan Qiren mumbled sullenly, his head hung low as his gaze remained unfocused on his tea. He knew it was a chance. Every family that had two or more children were always hit. But his nephews were well past the normal age of sacrifice.
He thought… He thought that they had lucked out. He thought that his nephews were safe. Of course he had been too hopeful.
“We can’t just let them take him, Shufu! We… We can’t… I don’t want to lose him…”
“I know.I do not want to either.”
----------------------
Lan Wangji watched his brother and uncle for a moment before he did something that the Lans never did. He stepped forward and pulled them both into a tight hug. “Everything will be okay.” He said softly.
There were tears and lasting embraces before Wangji finally stepped back and bowed to his family before beginning the trek up the winding mountain stairs.
It took almost the whole day for him to reach his goal.
The gorgeous mountain pass had almost made him forget about his impending death. He paused in front of the gorgeous moon gate, noting the delicate plants and twinkling chimes that decorated the entryway.
A soft mist gathered around the gate, swirling mystically as Lan Zhan stepped forward, chimes echoing around as he passed through the archway. As soon as he passed through, the thin air from the mountain top suddenly felt much more breathable, and instead of a mountain top, Lan Zhan found himself standing in a massive field with thick, luscious grass, and wild flowers speckled all throughout the field. The starlit sky was now bright and blue with a blazing sun high above.
In the far back of the field were dozens of trees, speckled across the horizon in a beautiful forest, but just in front of the trees was a beautiful cabin. He briefly wondered what it was for.
In the center, however, was the object of his concern.
Larger than any creature he had ever seen, coiled around itself like a snake, was a massive, black dragon that glittered with flecks of red in the brilliant sunlight. Red horns and a mane trailed along its back. The creature was absolutely stunning. Despite his massive size, the dragon seemed much smaller as he coiled around himself, head resting on top of his own body as he slept.
Lan Wangji remained frozen, watching it for several long moments, but the creature never stirred. So all he could do was sit patiently and wait for it to wake so he could fulfill his role as the sacrifice.
He waited for some time until his own tiredness won out. With arms folded across his chest and his head tipped forward, he fell into a deep sleep, somehow, he didn't feel in danger despite his circumstances.
----------------------
Lan Wangji woke when the sky had shifted from a beautiful blue, mid-day, to a shimmering array of blues and purples and pinks. Stars began to freckle the sky and he was sure that he had slept for several hours, though given the shift of time when he passed through the moon gate, he wasn't sure how time worked here.
But his main focus was not on the glittering sky or the fireflies that began to flicker around the field. No. His golden gaze was focused on the massive dragon laying in front of him. His head, easily the size of a horse drawn carriage, rested mere inches away from him.
Large, beautiful silver eyes watched him curiously, never once blinking for fear of missing a movement. The dragon was breathing very slowly, very carefully, as if to not blow the poor human away with his breath.
Somewhere far behind the dragon, there was a heavy sound of something dragging through the grass, and it wasn't hard to piece together that it was the dragon's tail, slowly sliding from side to side in a lazy fashion.
For a moment, Lan Wangji sat very still, his gaze locked on the large silver eyes.
This dragon… really was magnificent, and he was sure fearsome, but the only feeling the human was getting from him, was curiosity.
"...Hello. I… apologize for falling asleep. I did not wish to wake you." Lan Wangji wasn't sure if the old God could understand him or not. But he felt awkward having been asleep.
The dragon huffed a large puff of air through his nose, his two long, red whispers blew out, tickling either side of Lan Zhan.
Then, without warning, a voice emitted from the dragon. It was thunderous, yet somehow gentle at the same time. The timbre was lovely, but Lan Wangji could feel a sense of… resignation… Loneliness, in his voice.
"You did not run?"
"No. I was chosen, so I will fulfill my role."
The dragon lifted his head, easily towering over Lan Wangji.
"Surely, you do not wish to die."
"...I do not, but death comes for all of us. If my death keeps my family safe, then I will accept it without complaint."
The dragon hummed, standing up onto his feet before a bright light emitted from him, quickly followed by a gust of wind. Lan Wangji had to shield his eyes, but when he opened them, he was no longer face to face with the dragon. Instead, in front of him was the most beautiful man he had ever laid eyes on.
"I will allow you to leave." He said quietly, "but you will have no recollection of your life up to this point."
Confusion and shock flickered through Lan Wangji's golden gaze. "What?"
He took a few steps forward and crouched down in front of him. Lan Wangji could see the same, beautiful silver eyes with  dark slitted pupils. His tanned skin was freckled with black and gray scales reminiscent of his dragon form.
He truly was the same as the magnificent beast he saw.
"You will travel through the forest behind me until you reach the moon gate. When you pass through, you will have no memory of your life up to this point. But you will be alive and safe." He stood and turned to leave, but without thinking Lan Wangji grabbed his hand.
"Why would you just let me go? You demand these sacrifices and yet–"
"I demand nothing." The dragon said simply. "Many years ago, a mortal came to my realm and asked for me to aid in battle. I saw through his lies, painting himself and his people as victims, when in truth, they were the villains. So I destroyed their armies. As thanks, tributes were made to me. At first they were reasonable things, like food or money."
He frowned. "But eventually, they began to send humans. My existence began to warp to the humans of your world. They pray to me for protection, and offer me humans as sacrifice, I do not require any such thing. But I also do not align with any one kingdom in the mortal realm. I protect who is deserving of it."
"Then why not tell the humans?! Why accept the sacrifices and then make us lose our memories?"
"I have tried, but they still believe that I will change sides unless they provide sacrifices." He sighed. "Once a mortal passes through the moon gate, they cannot return to the mortal realm without sacrificing something. It signifies birth and renewal. The birth of a new life, in this case." He pulled his hand free.
"So go… you are free to leave."
"...and what will happen if I do not leave?"
"Then you stay here. Just as you are. But what kind of life would that be? A life of solitude is not one I would wish on anyone."
"...do you live a life of solitude?"
He glanced over his shoulder at him before he turned away again. "The path to the second moon gate is straight through those woods. You should go."
The dragon shifted once more, returning to his massive form before he took off to the skies.
Lan Wangji watched him go before he hesitantly stood and headed towards the woods.
It took him an hour of walking before he found the gate in question, yet, he could not bring himself to walk through.
He did not wish to forget his family, but also, he would be lying if he said the dragon did not ignite a curiosity inside of him…. So he turned around and returned to that field, stopping at the cabin near the forest. He could see smoke coming from its chimney, and he wondered if the dragon lived here.
A quick peek through the window confirmed his suspicion and he decided to leave him be for now, making his own make-shift shelter nearby.
The next morning, the dragon exited his home to find Lan Wangji nearby, and his silver eyes widened. "You are still here?"
"Yes. I do not wish to lose my memories."
"..." the dragon watched him for a moment, never before had a sacrifice chosen to stay. But he would not get his hopes up. He was sure the man would leave shortly. So for now, he invited him into his home.
Lab Wangji learned that the dragon's name was Wei Ying, and he learned that he was very good at hiding who he was.
He spoke distantly, as if trying to keep a wall between them, but when he wasn't careful, glimmers of his true self would slip through.
He got excited when he learned about things from the human world. He grew angry when he learned of wars, no matter how distant.
He spoke fondly of humans, but there was always a twinge of sadness.
With his makeshift home forgotten, Lan Wangji began to live with the dragon. Slowly, he chipped away at that wall, each day growing a little closer to the creature.
He was lonely.
Thousands of years he was confined to this realm, only permitted to leave by the other Gods when he received enough prayers. A punishment for the war he aided in, some several thousand years ago. The war that started the offerings.
When you finally got him talking, Wei Ying really never stopped. He talked about his realm, his cottage, his garden. Oh he was so very proud of his garden. He talked about the humans he has met in the past, he talked about his skills and abilities. He talked about flying, and how feeling the wind in his mane is the most wonderful feeling in the world.
Lan Zhan found himself enchanted by the dragon. The beautiful, lonely dragon, who is surprised to see Lan Zhan there every morning. He loves to listen to him speak, to hear him describe his centuries of life, or to ramble about his plethora of knowledge.
But most of all, Lan Zhan loves when the dragon smiles. Or when he laughs. Both make Lan Zhan feel lost in a sea of adoration.
----------------------
By his calculations, he has been in the dragon's realm for three months now, and every morning, he hides a smile as Wei Ying gets excited when he sees Lan Zhan has once again, not left the realm.
The look of surprise that is quickly replaced by a soft happiness and a barely concealed giddiness is what makes Lan Zhan feel weak in the knees.
Lan Zhan takes to making their food for them, delighting in the way his dragon preens and praises his cooking.
There was even a day where Lan Zhan sat there with a brush and brushed out every inch of the dragon's magnificent red mane.
As more time began to pass, the dragon and the human began to grow closer together, relishing in each other's company.
They spent most nights laying in the field, watching the stars as Wei Ying stayed curled up around Lan Zhan, allowing the human to lay comfortably on him.
The more comfortable the dragon became, the more Lan Zhan realized… he was falling in love with him. With his smile, with his laugh, with the adorable little pout he got when Lan Zhan scolded him for talking while eating.
Lan Zhan got to see a side of him that he was certain no one had ever seen before.
There were times he would wake in the middle of the night and find his companion missing from their shared room, and when he would go look for him, he would find him dancing amongst the fireflies, or singing under the stars.
One time, when the human caught him dancing, Wei Ying pulled him into the field with him, spinning around with him and laughing as they swayed to a music that no one but them could hear.
Then one day, Wei Ying seemed to change. He became quiet and distant. Lan Zhan wasn’t sure what was wrong.
He fed the dragon his favorite food, making sure to add extra spice. He warmed him a bath, offered to brush his mane, tried to coax him for a walk… But Wei Ying denied all of it.
Wei Ying even went to bed before Lan Zhan did. In the morning, Wei Ying was nowhere to be seen.
Lan Zhan searched the forest behind their now-shared cabin for hours, he kept his eyes on the sky, hoping to find his sweet dragon, but he saw no sign of him. It wasn’t until much later in the evening when he finally found him.
Wei Ying was sitting against the wall beside the moon gate that Lan Zhan had originally entered through. His dark robes had blended into the deep green foliage around the gate, but he rested against the wall with his eyes closed. He looked… sad.
Lan Zhan didn’t know what was troubling his dragon, but he wanted so badly to take away whatever pain he was feeling. “Wei Ying…” His voice was full of relief upon seeing him. “I have been searching for you, what are you doing over here?”
Slowly, the dragon opened his eyes, letting the silver orbs rest on the human for a moment before he stood. “I was waiting for you.”
“Waiting for me? Here?”
“Yes.” He closed the distance between them, stopping a mere few inches from the human. “Lan Zhan,” He asked gently. “Do you know how long you’ve been here?”
“I… do not.” He shook his head.
“Almost a year now.” Wei Ying said lightly, and Lan Zhan was struck by the realization.
“Has it really been that long?”
“...It has.” He nodded before carefully taking Lan Zhan’s hand and pressing something small and cool into his palm.
“This is for you, Lan Zhan.” His gaze remained on Lan Zhan’s, but it wasn’t hard to hear the way his voice echoed with something that the human hadn’t heard from him in some time.
He was sad.
He was lonely.
Wei Ying pulled away from Lan Zhan and stepped around him, walking back towards the cabin before he paused and turned back to face the human.
Lan Zhan whirled around to face his dragon, confusion in his gaze before he looked down at what was given to him.
In the palm of his hand was a small jade token with an elaborate carving of a dragon. He closed his fist around the cool stone and looked back at Wei Ying, clearly confused. “What is this for?”
“That token will allow you to pass through the gate behind you. The one you came through. Unlike the gate in the forest, no one can pass through it once they enter my realm. Unless they have that jade token.” He gestured lightly to his hand. “You can return home, Lan Zhan.”
“Return… home…?”
“Yes. You can see your family. You can tell them I do not require nor want any more sacrifices.” He gave him a smile, but it was not the smile he had come to love. It was small and full of sorrow. “I know your family will be excited to see you. You should go. I believe it is early morning on the other side of the gate.” He urged gently before turning, his body shifting into his long, serpent like form before he took off towards the sky, not giving Lan Zhan a chance to ask any further questions.
For a moment, all Lan Zhan could do was stand there. He watched as his dragon flew off, weaving slowly through the air. His golden gaze landed on the token once more before he frowned. Why was Wei Ying so sad?
He shook his head and hurried through the gate. He had a lot he needed to do.
----------------------
Lan Zhan’s return to the village was… unexpected. The confusion and surprise that etched itself into everyone’s expressions was somewhat comical.
“You’re alive!”
“The beast didn’t eat you?”
“Have you slain the creature?!”
“Was he dissatisfied with our pick?”
“What sort of hell will he unleash upon us?!”
The accusations and slander itched at Lan Zhan’s nerves, irritating him more than he had ever felt before. How dare they think that Wei Ying would harm anyone! “He is no beast.” He said flatly. “He has no intention of harming anyone here. But he does not want any more sacrifice.”
“What?”
“He does not want you sending any more of your family to him to appease him. If you want to appease him, send him food or wine. But he said he does not even need those. So please,
no more sending your family to him.”
Confusion swept over the crowd, but the people were quickly ushered aside as two figures hurried forward.
“Wangji!”
“Did!!”
Lan Zhan’s features relaxed and he stepped forward to meet his uncle and his brother, hugging them both tightly as he had the day he left.
Lan Qiren hurriedly ushered his nephew back home, setting him down with tea. “You’re home.. Oh thank the heavens.”
“Wanji, we have missed you so much, we thought… We thought we would never see you again.”
“Mn. I have missed you both as well.” He nodded lightly. “But, I am not here for long.”
“...What?”
“I came to visit, and to get some things, but I need to return to Wei Ying.”
“Wei Ying?”
“Yes… Wuxian the dragon.”
“... You are returning to him?”
“Yes. He has been upset the past few days, and I am not certain why, so I wish to bring some things to him.”
“Wangji, but… you’re… you’ve been returned to us, why would you go back to him?” Lan Qiren frowned, not understanding what his nephew was thinking.
Yet, Xichen seemed to understand. “...Will you return to visit again?”
“Mn. I believe so. Wei Ying did not explain how my token works fully, but I do not think it is a one time use. So I will try to visit once a month moving forward.”
Xichen nodded and gently squeezed his brother’s shoulder. “I am happy for you, didi. You seem happy.”
“I am. Wei Ying makes me very happy.”
Qiren glanced between the brothers, still unsure, but the relief that his nephew was alive and well sated him for now, as well as the promise of future visits.
For the night, Lan Zhan stayed with his family, telling them all about Wei Ying. Then in the morning, he gathered some supplies and made his way back up the mountain.
Stepping through the moon gate this time was as surreal as the first time he had done it. The dark evening sky shifted to the clear blue of early day and the luscious field welcomed him with a gentle breeze.
His gaze scanned the field until he found the large, coiled figure he was searching for. Sound asleep in the sun just as he had been the first time he arrived. How nostalgic.
He heard the gentle chimes from behind him, signifying someone had entered the realm, but the dragon did not stir.
Deciding he should let him sleep, Lan Zhan made his way to their cabin and set his belongings down before he began to prepare Wei Ying’s meal for when he awoke.
When his dragon did not come in by the time the food was done, Lan Zhan went to fetch him, stopping just a few feet in front of him, still sound asleep.
The human took a moment to admire his dragon. His large, imposing form that looked so small when curled up like this, yet still larger than a house. His glittering scales, and magnificent mane. He really was stunning in all forms.
Carefully, he stepped forward and pressed his hand to Wei Ying’s snout. “Wei Ying, it is time to wake up.”
The dragon stirred lightly, shifting in his sleep until his eyes opened slowly, pupils dilating slightly as his vision came into focus.
“Lan Zhan?”
“Mn. It is time to wake, sleepy head.”
“You… came back?”
“Of course. I only went to see my uncle and brother. I also brought a few things for you, but  I can tell you about my visit later, come, it is time to eat.” His hand stroked gently over the creature’s large snout.
For a moment, the dragon was silent, simply watching him before he pressed forward lightly, pressing his snout against the human, nuzzling him gently before he shifted back, his arms wrapping around Lan Zhan tightly.
“...Wei Ying?” He frowned, carefully wrapping his arms around his dragon’s human form, holding him close.
“You came back.” He said much softer this time. Lan Zhan finally understood.
Oh.
That was why he had been upset. He expected Lan Zhan to leave and never return.
He gave him a precious token to make the decision for himself. To decide if he wanted to leave. Wei Ying thought he would be alone again.
His hold tightened around Wei Ying and he nuzzled his face into that soft, black hair of his. “Mn. Will always return to Wei Ying.”
He heard the dragon’s breath hitch before he pulled back slightly, looking at Lan Zhan cautiously, his gaze searching for something.
Thankfully, this time, Lan Zhan understood, and without a word, he closed the gap between them, pulling the dragon into a soft, loving kiss.
Their first of many to come.
From now on, dragon nor human would ever be alone again.
