currently thinking about how jeremy must have been such a beacon of hope for kevin to cling to while in the nest.

we’re told that (most) ravens endure such harsh treatment because they are conditioned to believe it’s the only way to be the best and isolated from anyone saying otherwise. in terms of winning championships, it’s true: only ravens win (until the foxes).

however, for kevin the “best” is not about winning—it’s about playing the perfect game. it’s about Doing Exy in the most Perfect way possible.

then kevin watches jeremy—not a raven, not in the nest, not abused by his coaches—STILL able to achieve near perfection. other ravens can brush it off because trojans can’t be the best if they’re not winning, but kevin knows differently. watching jeremy play shows him it’s possible to be the best without being a raven.

and then he gives jean to jeremy.
