I know it's hard to believe that Jack and Eric would go 15 years without talking and it would be lovely to imagine them getting together during their college years while the show is still running but honestly

I love the idea of them finding each other 15 years later - adults with fully developed lives, dealing with big issues they both buried for years, dealing with the fact that it's so easy for them to just slot back into place after all that time, because it feels raw and real in contrast with a lot of the idealism of the show

Having such a strong relationship be torn apart then built back up as adults is such a real experience, and I think they both deserve something that takes work and isn't easy, because both of them have been handed a lot, and it would be a really interesting to explore that alongside the canon timeline

In my own, probably delusional, world, Eric Matthews is in fact a pretty smart and on the whole emotionally mature guy who is sometimes just a bit clueless and neurodivergant. HOWEVER due to a lifetime of being told he's stupid by every single person in his life except Feeny, he has greatly internalised this and has pretty low self esteem. His relationship with dating doesn't help matters, or is maybe a symptom that feeds into it in a loop.

I headcanon that he has a complex relationship with food during highschool years (that one episode where Jason has him listen to a VERY 90s-00s Food Bad tape, a comment from the actor saying he was really skinny in the early seasons, and the episode in season 7when he's binge eating and goes on a diet with topenga.)

He mostly grows out of it by the end of his gap year and starting college (moving in with Jack probably helps, I feel like he's a good cook and would force Eric and Shawn to eat), but then more and more subscribes to the mindset of 'it's easier to not try so no one expects anything from me'. This translates into being more and more 'stupid' and the more he acts that way the more people call him that the more he starts to believe it.

The only thing he does put effort into his relationships with his siblings and friends--he cares too much about people to let his relationships and the feelings of those around him at risk. Which also means everytime he sees a kid who needs more support he will do anything in his power to help.

Basically I love Eric and he deserves better and he's a smart lad who can do so much and he should be a weather reporter and father.

GMW AU where Maya is the foster kid of the Matthews and Shawn and Angela are still together/visit them and as the show goes on their bond strengthens but in s2 the finale can be a two parter and Maya has to leave the Matthews and obviously she doesn’t want to leave Riley and attend the same high school as her friends so Shawn and Angela decide to adopt her because of the genuine connection they made and maybe a little twist can be thrown in like “oh maya already has a new family ready to take care of her” unaware that the new family are Shawn and Angela until they reveal it themselves. Looking into Plagiarism: Reunification and MrsFizzle-a case of Boy Meets World Plagiarism or not? Part 2

On chapter 41 of Reunification there is this exchange in 2023:

According to tags, Ashley is non-existent as late as October 5th, 2022, well after her September comments on MA’s short stories that featured Audrey.

Knowing that she was not planning a long fic involving Ashley in August, but a month later indicated she had read MA’s stories and was now writing her own long fic certainly sounds like inspiration hit her while she was reading Autumn in Philadelphia and Flashbacks. A month after her long fic began, she commented indicating frustration that her “Jon’s wife” was not as good as MA’s. Ashley is introduced a month later in November and now Reunification with Ashley sounds a lot like Autumn in Philadelphia with Audrey well after MrsFizzle admits to reading MA’s work.

Also, I looked up GMW and it states that Jon met his nurse wife while in the hospital after his motorcycle accident in BMW. MrsFizzle’s story is an untagged AU and does not follow canon events (Shawn is the one in the hospital; Jon’s accident does not occur making the canon timeline she mentions moot). However, since she is now presenting Ashley to readers as a canon character with no caveats (keep reading), this makes her statement confusing at best.

But, by this point (August 2023), MrsFizzle was mixing truth/untruth, canon/head canon together in her responses to readers without distinguishing between them like she previously had. I’ve mentioned before that many of her commenters do not seem to know anything about the fandom and therefore would be relying on her for what is canon and what is not. Given the situation between her and MA, this dishonest approach to make her head canon appear to be canon to those not in the fandom is more than a little sus.

The issue with misleading fandom-blind readers like this is it would then make characters like Audrey and other OC love interests for Jon appear to be based off MrsFizzle’s “canon” wife and could potentially cause other writers to be harassed on MrsFizzle’s behalf for plagiarism as has happened to writers in other fandoms when readers become too passionate. If we are serious about crediting inspiration, then responses like the ones MrsFizzle gives could make readers think these other writers need to have an inspired by link to her work as they are writing their version of Ashley or that Ashley Enns needs to be added as a canonical tag. For MrsFizzle, either one would thwart plagiarism claims against her and potentially deflect them onto others.

Another issue is if enough people believe most of what she writes is canon, then plagiarism would never occur to readers who also read Autumn in Philadelphia because they would likely assume the same scenes in both stories are derived from canon.

Curious.

And so is the very rushed ending to Reunification.

While she got glowing comments for it, I was honestly confused. The Europe trip that was so built up suddenly ends. The OC is suddenly dropped and only brought back at the very end and the story just… ends with earlier plot points dropped. The adoption that was the whole point of the story is over in a few paragraphs in the epilogue all of things. It was vastly different from the way it started.

What also struck me as odd about the ending is that in her big chapter 20 comment MrsFizzle says: “…It’s not your fault. You gave fair warning. But chapter 17 absolutely blindsided me. I was gutted. Cried for three hours. Fell asleep, slept through the night, woke up crying again. Every time Shawn had been afraid Audrey would leave, every time he didn’t believe he could have the family he wanted, turned sour in my mind. Some thing I have learned about myself is that I do very poorly with adoption arcs that don’t have the happy ending…

…Meanwhile, I loved Audrey as Jon’s partner, but I loved her 100 times more as Shawn’s mother, and it’s kind of too late for that to happen in the same way…”

From what I gather of the summary and the tags, Shawn does get adopted but as an adult and not a teen. Strangely, Reunification ends with Shawn getting adopted just shy of his 18th birthday rather than as the younger teen that he was before the story switched gears and rushed to its ending. There was no explanation for this turn of events. Considering MrsFizzle’s grievance with MA’s story and her claim that such an ending was enough to make her cry for hours, her choosing to do the same thing makes no sense to me.

i think the only fic i have with an angsty ending is "i love you much (most beautiful darling)" because it's canon jily until their death. for some reason i wanted to do that when i was 18 idk

hi!! so it's taken me too long to actually send this and gather all my ambition thoughts together but the s4 finale was so insanely good!! like it was so compelling and I was grinning and gasping at my phone like I was actually watching an acted out episode 😭😭 the rl breakup was so sad but also I could feel it coming so it made it more satisfying somehow to actually see it happen after the build up and all I'm saying is 5 years is a long time who knows where they're at in s5 👀 zay and charlie my beloveds I'm so proud of them. maya I'm v concerned for u but I'm also so interested to delve into how she got there. farkle my boy my king u know I love u and even though I want de la minkus to happen I'm so weirdly proud of his growth and ability to move forwards. just that nostalgic warm vibe of "we used to know each other and now we're rekindling something" gets me every time like "why dwell on what could’ve been when we can have something now" HITS ME IN MY HEART

especially when both characters have developed and matured separately and gone through stuff and come out the other end a better person and there's just this catharsis of "it was the wrong time for us back then but now it’s the right time" DO YOU HEAR ME SOBBING

or you could even go the complete opposite with a "you made me a better person and without you I lost myself" angle and the whole arc is one or both characters earning forgiveness and making up for lost time in a mature and earnest way OUGH

I came across your post about Shawn and Angela married and being the parents of Zay in GMW and can you please post more about that AU?

I made that post in a sleep-deprived daze, but you know what? Sure. Anything to avoid revising a college assignment right now. This won't be entirely thought out, but I gave a shot.

The Zay Hunter Alternate Universe

The central change is Shawn and Angela stayed together and got married, with Zay being their biological son.

As their child, I don't think Zay would be much different. He'd perhaps be a little more laid-back and have an interest in the arts (I can see him a slam poet) but still his regular self.

Season One

In Girl Meets Home for the Holidays the new A-Plot is Riley meeting Zay for the first time since they were infants. It could be about the expectation that since their friends are friends they should be friends, but the two don't have anything in common.

At the end of the alternate episode, Shawn and Angela announce that they are moving into the vacant apartment and Zay will be entering Riley's class in the near future.

Since this is a hypothetical alternate universe where I don't have to worry about cast availability and production costs, I would have Shawn, Angela, and Zay in Girl Meets Game Night. It can serve as a peek into how Shawn and Angela's relationship evolved and to establish Zay further. Lucas and Zay could reunite for the first time, but their tense air doesn't have to be addressed right away.

Side Note: I'd have it be the end of Josh and Maya's "romance" because honestly what were the producers thinking?

Girl Meets Master Plan wouldn't happen, but I wouldn't mind it being replaced by Topanga and Angela befriending Maya's mother instead as a sort of women's night out vibe.

In Girl Meets First Date, Zay is dragged into the chaperoning alongside Maya and Farkle but insists they dip. Farkle refuses, taking his job seriously, but Maya agrees. To fulfill my younger ZayMaya heart and have them have a budding romance, perhaps having parallels to the LucasRiley date.

Season Two

In Girl Meets Gravity, Zay officially joins the class and becomes a regular. Him and Lucas are tense and are a bit passive-aggressive, but he stays to himself while the rest of the episode goes on.

In Girl Meets the Secret of Life, the storyline remains the same with some minor alterations. The tension between Zay and Lucas snaps and they reveal they were friends in Texas but something happened between them with Zay alluding Lucas is more violent than they all initially thought scoffing at the idea he is a moral compass. It comes to the climax where it is revealed Zay got in trouble a lot for being a rebellious free-spirit underneath his wallflower disguise, and Lucas took it upon himself to get him out of trouble. Zay shares his insecurities that in a world where everyone seems to have a second half, he just wanted reassurance Lucas was his.

In Girl Meets Pluto, Zay and Angela join the digging party.

In Girl Meets the Tell-Tale-Tot, I'd have the reason Maya goes to the party is to get proper closure on her former crush while referencing the fact she might have a new one but she isn't sure yet.

Girl Meets Hurricane doesn't happen, instead I'd make it seem like Maya is pseudo-replacing her mother with Shawn and Angela due to their artistic endeavors and her potential crush on Zay.

In Girl Meets Yearbook, Zay doesn't change.

In Girl Meets Semi-Formal, Zay asks Maya to the dance before Lucas asks Riley to the dance to kind of rub in his hesitance.

In Girl Meets Cory and Topanga, the Hunter couple gives Riley reassurance that she doesn't have to do it like her parents as it was nearly the downfall of their own romance.

In Girl Meets Texas, Zay is upset that Maya likes Lucas but resigns that he missed his chance and will continue being their friend.

In Girl Meets the New Year, Zay makes a brief visit but refuses to join the party as he knows how the holiday works. Farkle starts to pick up on Zay's feelings for Maya.

Season Three

In Girl Meets Ski Lodge, Zay confesses his feelings for Maya but says he doesn't expect her to return them. Maya says she doesn't know if she has feelings for him but wants to give dating him a chance as she had fun with him all the way back in Girl Meets First Date. They continue dating in the background for the rest of the series similarly to Riley and Lucas.

Since the Shawn and Katy's relationship plotline doesn't happen, I'd turn them into Zay and Smackle centric episodes.

In Girl Meets World of Terror 3, Zay would be there alongside Texan Lucas and seem to be feeding into each other's more negative personalities never having the blow-out in Texas that resulted in a change to both of them. Though he would be on somewhat good terms with Riley given their parents friendship.

In Girl Meets Sweet Sixteen, Zay and Maya discuss their relationship and show a more realistic but still hopeful view of it.

In Girl Meets Goodbye, Shawn and Angela reflect on their friendship with Cory and Topanga and share while they will be sad they go they would understand and still be here in New York.
