Recent game related things .. hrmm...
#I do like the inconsistency of the first map. that is actually something older but that I re-found and added to my Game Reference stuff#so that when characters reference where they're from I can be accurate. I like that the whole map is kind of shifted up that way. Where the#actual south part doesnt even count as the south since its Too Far and Scary lol. and if you say you're from 'the north' thats basically#like.. one single continent. Though some people do make distinctions like 'north midlands' or etc. still. I like the ways that common#language isn't always precisely accurate like that. and thinking about why a culture would classify things a certain way or etc. etc.#The inventory page is so funny to me because it's literally just the BASe like.. sample layout just to make sure it works properly with 0#actual design into it. just colored rectangles thrown together in MS paint. but what if I like... left it like that.. what if all the other#art in the game and UI is like stylized and fully matching BUT the inventory/journal/etc. screens I just left as plain colored blocks#with random misalignments and black spots and etc gjhbhjj... It looks unfinished in a Funny Contrast way to me.#the wordcounts are just like... my past few days of writing.. I am still not getting 2200 words a day done or whatever I needed. I'm lucky#if it's even half of that .... tee hee.. :3c I do also keep having appointments and other things going on but..grrr...#The full map of the area is probably not necessary but I thought it would be more realisitc if people were able to reference things. Like i#you have people all living in a city area probably at some point someone might mention a neighboring city or some landmark nearby#or etc. so I thought having at least the basic names of what's around for reference would be sensible. A side character mentioning#'oh yeah I don't live here full time I just travel from Marisene sometimes' or whatever makes it seem more like a Real#Fleshed Out Place than people just making vague references like 'the river' or 'i come from a city nearby' or 'i went to a place somewhere#around here' or 'the other city' or etc. lol.. Especially since global cities/global areas are weird as they operate almost like an#independent country within their walls. so it's like a micro country inside of another country usually. just plopped down in some agreed#upon plot of land that won't be too disruptive to the main country around it. That could get very complex depending on the cultural and#political backdrop of where they're placed (though obviously they try to choose the 'easiest' areas possible for it). Asen is a very mild#country without much history of conflict or anything so it's fine. But still interesting that Sifeh and the entire branched out global area#border three other districts of Asen. Which means like 3 times the local representitives you'l have to negotiate with for some major change#or anything. I think one of the 'random characters you can find around the world and have short discussions with just to make the area#feel more populated and real even though theyre not actual important npcs' is going to be a guy who actually serves on the council that#handles running the global areas and he's like.. some perpetually exhausted middle aged elf running around with a clipboard or whatever#ANYWAY...... hrgh... still trying to write when I can....#I WISH so badly that I had the scope for a simple character creation menu and all character interactions would allot for the background#of your player character. And also to have a simple day night cycle where places in the world you explore/people you talk to during the day#have new options or dialogue at night.. BUT alas... I already am so behind on everything as is lol.. aughhh... T o T#As the worlds number one Needless Detail And Complexity Enjoyer i must dilligently prevent myself from adding additional complexity

Did you know that 20% of American households are behind on their utility bills, a record high? Coincidentally, did you know that 3 out of the top 5 profiteers of the recent energy and cost of living crisis in the U.S. in 2022 were energy companies--and natural gas company EQT saw their operating profit margin increase to over 60%, also a record high? Come to think of it, did you also know that lower natural gas costs are statistically shown to save lives and prevent up to 11,000 deaths per year? did you know?

truly posting tonight, just very very late. thanks everyone for being so understanding. i had some complicated threads to tie in and mentally have been reeling from irl including a mild virus, pmdd, and unfortunately watching my country and others enable fascism in a way that brings back to mind what i experienced personally post-9/11 (i know, i'm old) witnessing warmongering and state gaslighting in real time
while i don't use either of my tumblr accounts to post about anything topical or political (i have a main out there with much broader reach) i'm sure those who've read any of my silly little work would understand that the ongoing imperialist aggression and genocide in gaza are devastating and my heart is broken for those who have died and who are currently suffering. i encourage anyone who can to support those in need through whatever means available to them. a ceasefire and humanitarian aid and a free Palestine are the only way to mitigate harm, there is no violence which begets or justifies violence, and no one with the privilege to should ever turn a blind eye to recognizable horror
thanks again for reading my work but thank you more for any willingness to engage with the world in a way that chooses peace and loving-kindness at all turns. i hope you understand i am not sorry for letting it affect me or delay a post

Oh 100 percent! But they seem to lean into his Europeanness rather then his POCness that I wonder was a conscious choice since Sisko's blackness is a wonderful part of his story, or more of a gloss over since they made him augmented But his beginning "doc on the frontier" reeks of colonialism. Do you have any posts on Bashir and his "otherness"
I don't think I've made many because frankly, the fandom leans heavily into him as British and I've seen at least one fairly popular fan imply it was racist to emphasize his brownness too much in a way I found offputting (we now have each other mutually blocked) and said out of pocket weird shit about Julian simply knowing Arabic.
I do think it was intentional but not necessarily the way I think you mean- for one, Siddig has gone on record as not thinking of himself as especially Arab pre-9/11, which is interesting considering his first two film/TV roles as a Palestinian man on Hajj and as Prince Faisal. For another, Julian's character concept seems like it mightve been "vaguely exotic fuckboy" but specifically the "Mediterranean" variety. And lastly it wouldn't suprise me if this was a writer blindspot or they felt comfortable making Bajorans partially vaguely Kurdish and Cardassians partially vaguely Turkish (something I also haven't talked about much bc I both don't people to pretend me saying that is apologia and because my thoughts involve the ways in which that was kind of bigoted), but didn't feel comfortable writing an actual Arab character that interacts with Arab culture.
However I will say if you want to understand Anglo-Egyptian relations in a way I think sheds light on Julian as a character to read "Beer in the Snooker Club"- it's a semi autobiographical novel by a Coptic man from around the time we got independence. Siddig isn't Egyptian and the Sudanese relationship to Egypt and England is distinct, but they did cast an Egyptian for Amsha and I usually write her side of the family as mixed Egyptian-Sudanese and Richard's as Indian-Jewish-British. Because it's from a Coptic perspective it also has some differences to Arab or broadly Egyptian experiences, but it's still very well regarded as something of a cultural exemplar.

Prospect of change
The prospect of change refers to the potential or likelihood of a future alteration, transformation, or shift in a particular situation, system, or context. Change is a fundamental aspect of life and affects various aspects of human existence, including personal lives, relationships, organizations, societies, and even the global landscape. It can occur in different forms, such as technological advancements, social and cultural shifts, political reforms, economic developments, and environmental transformations.
The prospect of change can evoke a wide range of emotions and reactions in individuals and communities. Some people may embrace change as an opportunity for growth, innovation, and improvement. They may see it as a chance to overcome challenges, explore new possibilities, and achieve greater success. Others may feel anxious or resistant to change, fearing the unknown, potential disruptions, or the loss of familiar routines or structures.
The prospect of change can be driven by various factors and catalysts. Technological advancements, for example, have been major drivers of change throughout history. Innovations in areas such as artificial intelligence, automation, biotechnology, renewable energy, and communication technologies continue to shape and redefine our societies and the way we live and work.
Social and cultural factors also contribute to the prospect of change. Evolving attitudes, values, and norms can lead to shifts in societal expectations and practices. Movements advocating for equality, diversity, and sustainability, for instance, have prompted changes in policies, laws, and social structures in many parts of the world.
Political and economic factors can also create the conditions for change. Political reforms, revolutions, or shifts in power dynamics can lead to significant transformations in governance, policies, and institutions. Economic factors, such as globalization, market fluctuations, or the emergence of new industries, can drive changes in employment patterns, wealth distribution, and consumer behaviors.
Environmental factors, including climate change, natural disasters, and resource depletion, are increasingly shaping the prospect of change. The need for sustainable practices, renewable energy sources, and climate mitigation and adaptation measures are driving transformative shifts in various sectors and industries.
It is important to note that the prospect of change is often accompanied by both opportunities and challenges. While change can bring about positive outcomes and advancements, it can also lead to uncertainty, disruptions, and inequalities. It requires individuals, organizations, and societies to adapt, be flexible, and proactively manage and navigate through the process of change.
Overall, the prospect of change is a constant presence in our lives. Recognizing and understanding its potential implications allows us to prepare, embrace opportunities, and navigate the challenges that arise as we move into the future.

Unraveling the Rise of Authoritarian Leaders: Understanding the Complexities
In recent years, the world has witnessed a concerning rise in authoritarian leaders, challenging the foundations of democracy and raising questions about the factors contributing to this global trend. Exploring the underlying causes behind the ascent of these leaders is crucial to fostering a deeper understanding of the complex dynamics at play. In this blog post, we delve into the key factors that have shaped this phenomenon and shed light on its multifaceted nature.
Economic Insecurity and Discontent: Amidst economic inequality, job insecurity, and a sense of stagnation, many people have grown disillusioned with traditional political establishments. Authoritarian leaders often capitalize on this discontent by promising swift solutions and appealing to those who feel left behind by globalization and rapid societal changes.
Political Disillusionment and Erosion of Trust: Distrust in democratic institutions, perceived corruption, and a loss of faith in political elites have fueled the rise of authoritarian leaders. As citizens become disillusioned with traditional parties, they may seek alternatives that promise stability, order, and a break from established norms.
Identity Politics and Polarization: The growing divisions along lines of ethnicity, religion, nationalism, or ideology have provided fertile ground for the rise of authoritarian leaders. By exploiting these divisions, such leaders can rally support around a particular identity or group, using fear and grievances to consolidate their power base.
Technological Disruption and Information Manipulation: The advent of social media and online platforms has transformed the information landscape. Authoritarian leaders have adeptly utilized these platforms to spread disinformation, manipulate public opinion, and amplify extremist ideologies. Such technological disruptions have played a significant role in shaping narratives and influencing political outcomes.
Geopolitical Shifts and Nationalist Sentiments: Geopolitical shifts, global power dynamics, and the erosion of international alliances have contributed to the rise of leaders promoting nationalist or isolationist agendas. Economic uncertainties, migration challenges, and perceived threats to national identity have fueled a desire for strong leaders who promise protection and sovereignty.
Weak Democratic Institutions and Concentration of Power: The weakening of democratic institutions, erosion of checks and balances, and the concentration of power in the hands of a few have facilitated the rise of authoritarian leaders. A lack of institutional robustness and limited avenues for accountability can undermine democratic norms and enable the consolidation of power.
The rise of authoritarian leaders is a multifaceted and complex phenomenon that stems from a combination of economic, political, social, and technological factors. Understanding these underlying causes is crucial for safeguarding democratic values and promoting a more inclusive and resilient society. By addressing the economic insecurities, strengthening democratic institutions, fostering social cohesion, and promoting media literacy, we can work towards creating a more resilient democratic framework that safeguards the rights and freedoms of individuals around the world.

I just realized that in current fandom (internet) parlance when people say “go to therapy” (haha semi ironic but really they’re bullying someone about their preferences) what they mean is “go to jail” (haha semi ironic but really they want you to experience personal distress and/or social punishment).
good to know I never have to give a fuck about THAT again

The Evolving Political Landscape: Working-Class Voters and Trump's Influence
A Moment of Realization Everyone experiences a defining moment when they first grasp the possibility of Donald Trump’s return. For me, that moment occurred back in March during a visit to the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery. As I stood before an old painting, I took notice of the explanatory text that accompanied it. The description characterized the westward expansion of the United…

Was the 2024 US Presidential election irrelevant? Yes and no.
Was the 2024 US Presidential election irrelevant? Yes and no. If Trump and Kennedy do end the war in Ukraine, as promised, that will be a giant victory, because it will greatly reduce deaths, while reducing the risk of nuclear war. Any sane person should want that. If Trump and Kennedy do begin a clean up and anti-corruption campaign targeting the Deep State, EPA, FDA, etc., that will be hugely…

my personal cope is that most people here very aware (in a mostly non-political way) that none of these candidates represent them and as a result are completely checked out, only voting to keep the other one out if they vote at all. i do think a party with a platform that offers the sort of real change to the nature of our economy and politics that only socialism can, from a party that participates in elections but is not bound by them could animate a lot of withdrawn and unrepresented (or underrepresented) people to not only vote but get involved with a different sort of politics. but again its all cope.
