reblog this and tag with a food you no longer have access to (closed restaurant, state you moved away from, ex’s mom’s cooking, etc) that will haunt you until your dying day, mine are the spicy chicken sandwich on the employee menu at the fine dining restaurant I was a prep cook at, and the onion bagel from the kosher place down the street from my house when I lived in the city

dumbest triggers of all time
apparently the fastest way to make me so uncontrollably angry that it starts the self-harm loop in my head is to stick me in an unfixable technology loop. log in -> log in again in this other application -> enter this PIN -> log in -> etc and you can't proceed because it times out in something like a captcha that won't load...... after about 5-7 minutes of this I start having hard-to-manage visions of cutting my own arms. lol and lmao, this happened not because of any urgent need but because I was trying to help my stepson set up minecraft. killing Bill Gates with my mind because microsoft's locked-in proprietary bullshit is the reason this is happening
#used up all my emotional reserves for the day managing the self harm impulse because of the need for monopoly by tech companies#I'm at the mental illness self management limit#I'm at the silicon valley panopticon#im at the combination etc etc you get it

I also had to snatch a seven-year-old's pointing finger away from the Dalí even though I had reminded about arms behind back multiple times. we're talking a quarter inch away. "I wasn't touching it, I was just showing you" etc.
went to the museum on campus to see the exhibits and one was a student-curated exhibit and it was. bad. to me. sorry students. do better next quarter.

No no no, not a modern au, a modernist au. Your favourite characters are hanging around Tammany Hall, getting coked up in Weimar Berlin, and dying as martyrs for socialism on the front lines of the Spanish Civil War. They write stream of consciousness novels, direct avant garde cinema, and debate the merits of social criticism as a mode of revolutionary thought. Progress is celebrated, industry is glorified, and art is politicized. History becomes the titanic struggle between nations, races, or classes. Everywhere they go, everyone knows that a war of apocalyptic magnitude is coming but no one is willing to admit it. Worse still, the most prescient among them know that the conflagration on the horizon isn’t truly going to be the end. War will come and war will go, but the ideas and behaviours that make it inevitable will remain etched in the hearts of men who’ve killed the divine and constructed themselves as its replacement. They warn and no one will listen. The band will strike a jaunty tune and your faves will dance and drink and die. The coffee shops and florists and offices will become symbols of an ideology that strains under its own imperial ambitions until it breaks against the shore of history. In the modernist au, framing alone damns your blorbos to either be Kassandra or Agamemnon. Whether knowing or ignorant, the spectre of death looms over them regardless. You cannot write a happy ending to the modernist au because everyone already knows where modernism ends.

there are congresspeople who are interested in restricting the new headlights! this is doable! ask your congresspeople to support Mike Thompson's letter to the NHTSA! here is a change dot org petition! you can read up on it at softlights.
There is a new rule for manufacturers but it will take years to see effects--and that's if the incoming admin doesn't overturn it. this is the kind of thing that you CAN do something about because it's small enough that if you pester your rep and get all your friends to pester your reps, they will llisten.
I honestly feel like the proliferation of LED headlights was the canary in the coalmine for the general attitude we see in the political climate these days and i'm not even remotely kidding
#i'm literally always saying this#and literally always calling my representatives about this too#all that to say: yes#I think it does speak to a breakdown of people giving a fuck about others.

type of guy so old it feels new discovered:
learned my brother voted third party for something called the american solidarity party. I went down the rabbit hole of their website and their platform can only be described as 19th century reformer imposed morality meets left-of-Dems socioeconomic policy. I mean it is basically socialism lite for liturgical-doctrinal Christians who are anti-abortion hardliners, a.k.a. European Christian Democrat-ism for the US, but reading their platform in this country is a trip. yeah we're the anti-choice, anti-gay rights, anti-trans, anti-no fault divorce, Patriarchy Unlimited Party, and we're also pro-worker, pro-environment, pro-reparations, pro-tribal sovereignty, anti-nuke, anti-imperialism, anti-drill, anti-IMF, anti-prison, anti-death penalty, and anti-corporate.
I mean I think there is a vicious insidiousness in a viewpoint where the implicit utopia is a post-racial society with open borders, no war, and women mostly stay at home with the kids, but it's at least internally consistent. and it's fucking embarrassing for Dems to be outflanked on the left by the Carrie Nation Moralizing Patriarchy Party.
#extremely weird to read specific policy platforms like we support Dark Sky initiatives#we want to end cash bail and three strikes laws#oh yes and we also think trans kids should never be given hrt#whoa there sir your Catholicism is showing

“To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness.
What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places—and there are so many—where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction.
And if we do act, in however small a way, we don’t have to wait for some grand utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory.”
~ Howard Zinn
