Hello!

I'm working on building a vivarium and would love to house a frog, BUT I'm not sure if I could take care of it ad they seem pretty high maintenance.

Any tips for raising frogs or should I just go with something else?

Frogs are very high maintenance animals! Many common species need daily attention, and feeding multiple times per week, even if you have your climate systems automated. And they can live a surprisingly long time. Going on holiday, moving, and being sick can all make the burden of care extremely high. So, if you go for a frog, make sure you have a contingency plan.

My recommendation is usually to get a snake. Snakes are generally much lower maintenance, and many species can be much more interactive than frogs (frogs should be pretty strictly hands-off 'pets' imho). But this will be dependent on the dimensions of your tank, level of comfort with snakes, and comfort with feeding them frozen-thawed food. A crested gecko would be my go-to backup if those present problems.

It’s not much, but a mantle Ofrenda to help my family remember and celebrate the pets we have loved and lost over the years. They may not be human family, but our beloved four legged family deserve the same remembrance and celebration.

There are still some elements to add, but it’s a good start.

No. Give the large frog your blood. I- HE needs it more than you do. Give him your blood.

basically, i think the general rule of thumb is: if someone REALLY wants the blood that’s inside of your body, and they’re like… a vampire, or a dracula, or some sort of mansquito, then that’s probably okay. a dracula and a mansquito are made for removing things like blood and swords from inside your body. that’s basically fine.

if something wants to get at your blood, and they’re, say, some kind of murdersaurus, or maybe a really big frog, that’s where the problems start to arise. a really frog is not made for removing blood, and your blood knows this, which is why it is so vehement about wanting to stay IN your body instead of coming out. 

unfortunately this will not deter a really big frog, because a really big frog is full of things like prizes, and value, and quite a lot of hatred, and it would REALLY rather like to replace any and all of those things with your blood, and basically by any means possible.

Sigh….. Gitrog has worms!!!!! And not the kind for eating…

They haven’t been eating for me for a while. A stool sample to the vet, and now I am having to destroy his lovely bioactive, sanitize everything and medicate him. He is currently in a sterile habitat that he is very unhappy about. Though he is active and eating again thanks to meds!!!! Here is what the tank looked like after a year and a half of growth!! The roots made their own carpet at the bottom of the tank!
