Headcanon: though Jason himself is basically a snow person, of mainly Irish and English ancestry, he grew up in the heavily Puerto Rican and Cuban Park Row. As Robin, Jason needed to get dialect training in Spanish as well as English, because his Spanish had two settings either "very street" or "Puerto Rican abuela." Like, back when I started reading fics and didn't know anything about comics, I always imagined him as a blond because, let's be real, that boy does NOT have dark-hair energy, no matter how hard he tries.

Back when jason was first introduced (during pre-crisis), they gave him the same backstory as dick. Probably just because they were to scared that the new character wouldn’t work as well, and if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

He wasn’t actually fully ginger in pre-crisis, he was blondish then dyed his hair black so batman would let him become robin.

His first ginger appearance came in post-crisis in 2009-2011 (if my memory is correct) he was locked in arkham so he couldn’t redye his hair.
