Lorelai and Rory egging Jess’ car is not talked about enough. I’d love to hear your thoughts about it. IMO it’s such a shitty thing to do??? But some people think it’s a girlboss moment.
I re-watched this episode before I answered this. Honestly, I think the most telling thing about this scene is how quick to judgement and/or mocking everyone (including Lane and Luke) is. Season 3 is a weird one for me because on one hand, we get what we want (canon literati), but at the expense of everyone treating Jess worse than they did in Season 2. They are utterly convinced of his troublesome nature and give no room for redemption. To Luke, it's even thought of as a joke ("Someone really hates you!")
Rory using Lorelai's rejection over Chris and Sherry as a rationale to devil egg Jess' car is the most impulsive, teenage girl thing ever. They point out this dynamic between them over and over again. In a way, they are both teenage girls and friends before parent and child. It's a distinction they play up every chance they get (as opposed to Emily). Sometimes, I think they wrote in all these insane acts and behaviors from every townsperson and character just to get Milo to wig out as Jess (which, from an acting point of view is genuinely hilarious). I think we forget this show is more of a comedic teen drama than an outright family drama (even if it certainly leans into the latter in later seasons). Like, so much of this scene still works because Jess and Luke have that conversation where Jess yells "Someone prepared deviled eggs to THROW at my car!" That line delivery is peak Gilmore Girls.
To actually answer your question, I agree it was a shitty thing for them to do, especially given the circumstances (Jess working hard for the car and not really having done anything seriously wrong since Season 2). Doubly so for Lorelai because she was angry about an unrelated thing and felt egged on (lol) by Rory to target someone who didn't deserve it.
Thanks for the ask!

when did you think rory started falling for jess?
I think it happened when Jess handed her her copy of Howl with his “notes in the margins.” She comes to the conclusion that he has read it before, clearly. Not only does he confirm it, but also lets her know that he has reread it multiple times. But, hold on, that doesn’t add up, because he had said he didn’t read much. And then comes one of his most iconic lines: “Well, what is much?”
And this is her reaction to it:
Tumblr media
That is the face of recognition. It’s like she’s going, “No. No way… he is like me?? He’s the same brand of human person that I am???” And if he really is, what does it mean that he handpicked that book in particular to annotate for her after they had just met for the first time? What are the implications??? She probably went home and thought about that for the rest of the week.
If I had to pinpoint it, I would say that was when the seed of love was planted. It might have taken a little longer to sprout (maybe it did during the Bracebridge Dinner episode…) and fully bloom (probably when she decides to go see him in New York), but I’m of the opinion that it all started at that moment. (Excuse the corny analogy, but that’s the best way I found to explain my point of view haha.)
Not to get too sidetracked, but it really stands out to me how similar this scene is to this other one in 6x08:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jess is always pulling Rory (or pulling her back) to him through books. And how interesting is it that, to wrap up their (on-screen) story, Rory is the one to do it?!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“What was that all about?” It’s just a thing between them.
It’s as though she’s gone through all these stages of realization: “Oh, he’s a reader, in the same way that I am?” -> “He has become a writer, and he says he couldn’t have done it without me??” -> “And now I’ll write a book too, thanks to his encouragement!”
Jess and Rory’s arc is just this beautiful journey of seeing yourself in the other, seeing that you’re not alone, and growing and improving because of it, and helping the other grow and improve in the process too — like two gears that perfectly connect and set each other in motion. And I think that’s pretty much what their love was all about.

I can't believe that in the year 2024, I spent 20 minutes of my therapy session trying to explain the Destiel confession followed by immediately getting sent to super gay Hell so I could tell my therapist that I received the news that Trump had been shot through that meme.

Learn how to Romanticise School
。゚•┈୨♡୧┈• 。゚
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi jelly beans,
I’m Mary and here’s my tips to start romanticizing this school year…✎ᝰ
౨ৎ Take melatonin for a good, long resting sleep!(It can help for my girlies with imsonia)
౨ৎ Wake up early! Having a good time to get ready can really help… You just don’t need rushing up from left to right, control is key.
You can also have extra time to read your notes, and be prepared.
౨ৎ Find a cute bag for school, you can find anything on Vinted. (Shop for real leather always, I know its not very ethical, but it lasts you decades AND its secondhand!)
౨ৎ Plan your outfits, the night before.
Save your time. This tip is also for my lazier dolls, or my girlies that don’t know what to do the night before school!
(You can also find really cute things on Vinted, ask me if you need any keywords!)
Oh and cute jackets or fur!
౨ৎ Do your skincare!
And find a cute easy makeup routine! (If you wear some)
౨ৎ Breakfast! If you’re not a morning eater like me, try to eat in a Bar or Café near school, by the time you’re at school you’ll be hungry!
If you don’t feel eating anything at all, have a warm drink, I’m a tea girly.
Try not to skip breakfast!
౨ৎ Create or find a cute gloomy/fall playlist!
(Let me know if you’d like one from me!)
౨ৎ Shows to watch after school:
Gilmore Girls and Gossip Girl are classics, but there’s a bunch of other good shows out there!
(Charmed, One Tree Hill, AHS, TVD, PLL, Salem)
౨ৎ Books! Take your books to school with you, read on the bus, on the train, break-time!
౨ৎ Cute school furniture! Do I need to say anything more?
If you have any suggestion or tips just add them!

lorelai gilmore and logan huntzberger are the same character in different fonts and once you realize that, you also realize that logan is indeed not the luke to rory's lorelai, but instead, logan is the lorelai to rory's luke. in this essay i will

The narrative of "Jess is so rude to everyone in town! 😱" will never not be funny to me.
The kid barely talks to anyone? Unless he's working a shift at Luke's, Jess tries very hard to avoid all human beings. Literally walks around with a book blocking his face so that other humans won't even see him. But I guess he doesn't smile much and he says "huh" a lot so... that's unspeakably rude?
In a town with multiple adults (Luke, Mrs. Kim, Taylor, Michel) who are irritable and loudly rude to everyone that crosses their path, it's so silly that Jess is somehow the one crossing the line.

Gilmore Girls is one of the shows ever. I remember watching it with my mom and sisters as a kid and even as a repressed catholic I was like "damn Rory kinda gay asf" can't wait for you to inevitably go insane over the shit this show pulls in its later seasons
i wont lie im kind of terrified of where this show is going to take me because of some things my friends have said

what about the gilmore girls is making lee fight with her wife. if you understood anything about how lee watches television this would be equally as daunting a premise to you.
in general the reaction to me watching this show has seemed to be a simmering under the surface. there's a fin peeking out of the water but the size of the shark still eludes me.

also forgot to mention- story time from the con (and ik some of my moots are stans so you guys deserve to know)- during their panel, Jensen mentioned his past characters Jason Teague from Smallville and CJ Braxton from Dawson's Creek.
A fan asked how J2 thinks Jason and Jared's old character, Dean from Gilmore Girls, would be in the Supernatural world. While Jared said Dean would "die in 5 minutes", Jensen said Jason "would definitely get his ass kicked" then said "But CJ from Dawson's Creek? ...He'd do alright."

So I'm doing a comfort re-watch and in doing show realized that there was a major crackship that could have been interesting: Rory with Carole Springsteen from s3 episode 3.
OMG

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Carol: zip me up?
Rory: i'm sorry are you...carol?
C: yeah, why?
R: i don't know. I just didn't expect-
C: what?
R: well, you.
C: why?
R: i don't know.
......
R: don't you wanna please your parents?
C: yeah. but not at the expense of finding myself.
.....
R: i am glad to have met you.
C: oh, same here. good luck with harvard. (stares in gay pining)
five mere minutes, so much potential

Jess Mariano headcanon that I have to get out of my head so I can study:
Luke and Liz's mom was called Jessica. For the entire pregnancy, Liz was convinced that Jess was going to be a girl, and she refused to know the sex until the birth, claiming 'a mother new these things'. She wanted to call the baby Jessica after her mother.
When Jess was born, Jimmy and Luke were both there and told her something along the lines of 'oh well. What's the alternative?'
Liz absolutely wanted Jess' full name to be Jessica on his birth certificate. This was the only time Luke and Jimmy had a moment of pure connection, looked each other in the eye, and knowing they could not let this poor kid be bullied the rest of his life.
Luke distracted Liz with baby Jess as Jimmy filled the name out in the birth certificate. And thus, Jess Mariano was born.

I Am All In Rewatch - Episode 4x5 (Part 1)
Um so she's on her cell phone. He runs her out of there, and the funny part of it is she does the entire phone call on the way out never gets out the door. The phone call ends at the door, she comes back in...The phone calls work beautifully because there's so much going on in person that the phone calls provide a kind of a welcome tension, add drama. But then you're like, oh, are they going to get back to the scene after the phone call and continue that banter? So yes, it all worked. It was the perfect use of phone calls...Yeah, he was a bit edgy, wasn't He. I remember doing that scene. It was kind of fun... he's a little he's going through those stages, right, So he's in one of his he's in the angry stage....at first, I thought, oh god, you know, he's it's a little too snappy. It's a little too it's like too much anger at her. And it's not like that's not funny. But why did I laugh then? You know, I thought it was funny... Yeah, it was nice. It was a nice scene. It was really nice when it got to that point....But I think they both were aware that here's an opportunity to go on a date without having to admit.. And I think they were both happy really happy about it because it wasn't awkward or weird it just sort of organically came up and it was like yeah, sure. I don't think he was going to allow himself to go there mentally that this was a date, but it was an opportunity to get inside the house and spend some time with somebody he's obviously very fond of. -Scott
