One thing that I hope will come up in Junior Year is the other bad kids’ extended families.
Like I know we learned about Gorgug’s and Fabian’s in Sophmore Year but what about the others?
Does Fig have archdevil relatives??? What about relatives on Sandra Lynn’s side?? Does Kristen have a super cool aunt who is totally rad and accepting???? Does Riz have a grandma with the wildest lore?????
Does Gilear have siblings?!?!?!

gorgug in the time quangle was the most gorgug situation of all time. everyone got to come in pairs from their universes except gorgug who came alone with his car. the only other people who represented what his universe was to the others was arthur aguefort, gilear, and romance partner baron. everyone looked to him to fix something wildly out of his control that aguefort did. his van exploded. he's straight up not having a good time

Gilear Faeth is doomed by the narrative in that he was supposed to be just Some Guy, but his daughter was so determined for him to be part of the narrative that he ended up with an ancestral curse

I’m so torn with the idea of Gilear having been cursed because on one hand it flies in the face of “he’s not cursed he’s just a guy” and “some people have to be normal”
But on the other hand I find it deeply amusing that in the world of spyre there is just so many concurrent dnd campaigns going on that having an ancestral curse is so normal and commonplace that the wild coincidence of the bad kids having three different unconnected connections to Ankarna can happen.
Like imagine being Gilear and finding out that the armor which created the curse that has haunted your family line for generations is owned by the guy your wife cheated on you with and your ancestor is trapped in your daughter’s classmate’s mother’s chest.
Both statements are true. He is just some guy and he’s cursed.

Newer Dimension 20 fans might look at Liv attempting to hack Usha’s brain by crushing it just the perfect amount and think “this is completely unhinged and obviously totally unprecedented”, but it is actually no less than the fifth time a PC has done impromptu untrained surgery on another character, the third time on another PC, in D20 history.
So, safe to say it’s practically par for the course at this point.

arthur making gilear the vice principal is so funny but all jokes aside, it's the perfect job for gilear. the position was created for kalvaxus so arthur has limited it so much. it has no responsibility, it has no powers, all you have to do is show up and let arthur dunk on you. that's in the job description. gilear's main skills include being dunked on and hanging out with his daughter, the only two things he can do at aguefort. he starts fucking up the moment he gets a task but this job was designed to illicit no tasks of importance whatsoever

I just realized that Gilear is the only competent parent in that household. Aside from Cathilda, who for sure raised Fabian more than his own mother did. But in terms of "default" parental figures, Gilear is the only one who is going to fully show up and be ready.
Telemaine has an entire world to learn about; you put that baby in granpapa's arms and tell him you just need an hour, you're getting a call from the cops telling you they found your baby with a strange man buying lotto tickets at a 7/11.
Hallariel is in no shape or form fit to raise another child. And I can see a world where we get some long overdue development in her character and relationship with Fabian, where she comes to understand what a shit mother she's been, but she's gonna fumble the bag a lot until then.
And you know Cathilda is gonna be doing a lot of the pushing in that department. It'll worry her to let go of the reigns on such a young child, but the satisfaction at seeing Hallariel's face when she goes to pawn off the baby and Cathilda refuses will be more than enough to reassure her that this has to happen.
So that just leaves... Gilear. A fully capable parent who already raised one kid, and who is still a prominent figure in that child's life. It's Gilear in the midst of caring for a newborn whilst Telemaine has Alston declaring his own nemesis, Hallariel panics on the sudden lack of Cathilda, and Fabian furthers his elaborate scheme to kill this baby as he stubbornly fights the slow creepings of affection.
Godspeed, Gilear o7.
