A 2023 retrospective

2023 was a very good year for me fandom-wise!

I wrote a lot of Snarriet fics, and some Harrymort things. I kept working on my long-running Harrymort fic Precious Horcrux, I created a second account on AO3 for my fics with a non-genderbent Harry, and I even wrote fanfiction of a fanfiction, because I love Certain Dark Things so much I just had to write in its universe.

But the most memorable part of the year by far was all the friends I made! @chipartwork with whom I clicked instantly and who is the sweetest bean, @racfoam and our shared love for all things Harrymort, @snapesmorningcoffee lover of cats and so kind, @hirukochan you brilliant (evil) writer, and all the folks over at the Snarriet Discord server! Love you all <3

What's in store for 2024?

More Snarriet, of course. More Harrymort, too. I don't think I'll be done with Precious Horcrux by the end of the year, but we'll see!

Last year I listed three fics I wanted to write, and I only managed one out of the three, because I keep having new fic ideas that pop up to the forefront of my mind and scream at me to get written.

Let's try this again. Three fics I want to get to this year:

a Cat!Snape fic that takes place post-war. Harrie is the DADA teacher and everyone thinks Snape died in the Shack.

a Veela!Snape fic, with the Forced Bonding trope, and Harrie saving Snape from going to Azkaban with a radical method (having Snape's baby).

a Muggle AU with Priest!Snape and Devil!Riddle.

As much as I absolutely hate femharry stories I can't help but smile at the irony of the situation. all these homophobic stories which erase the real Harry potter for their cringe, annoying self insert are bending over backwards yelling in tags alternate universe always a girl, Harriet, fem harry, Harry Has a twin she is badass, her brother(who is always real Harry) bullies her along with James and lily and of course malfoy, snape, Tom riddle, or whoever the other male is of the slash ship is homophobic to boot and horrible to real Harry. the jealousy jumps out so bad.

Still the tag for the those homophobic stories is always slash ship tag because otherwise they are meaningless, not much hits or kudos or following for what those stories actually are ofc/character ship.

Hate slash ship but are still ironically shipping two guys only. Without stealing everything of Harry potter, those males won't look twice at those self inserts. Especially Tom riddle/voldemort. Because fem harry/ofc is found in spades in it. If poor real Harry exists in those fics he isnt horcrux, can't speak parseltongue but OFC/self insert can and Harry is hated like anything.

I wish my fav ship tomarry had never become famous if only to avoid these garbage genderbent takes. The amount of homophobia those writers have is sad, saying without any remorse but it's intimate if its het only, we need female lead in slash ship, riddle, snape, malfoy, Cedric, etc are not gay! It's hot if it's femharry/self insert.

The answer is very simple and unfortunate — they wouldn’t be as popular. Nowhere near as popular.
