All Marauders fans are essentially Harry Potter fans by default, but not all Harry Potter fans are Marauders fans. The Marauders fandom is a sub-fandom of Harry Potter.

While yes, they’re two different fandoms, they all still fall under one name, one franchise, and it is all still created by the same person. There is no way to separate that. It quite literally follows a group of teens who play a significant role in the main protagonist's (Harry’s) life. It consists of James Potter (Harry’s father), Sirius Black (Harry’s godfather), Remus Lupin (Harry’s professor and the man who made him the godfather of his son), and Peter Pettigrew (Harry’s best friend’s rat and the man who got the Potters killed). Plus, Lily Evans (Harry’s mother), Severus Snape (Harry’s other professor), Dumbledore, and Voldemort. 

You may not consider yourself a Harry Potter fan, but from an outsider's point of view, that’s precisely what you are. The Marauders fandom is simply you all exploring the timeline before Harry; it is still within the already established world of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter created by J.K. Rowling. You all are still very much enjoying her work and are showing that by expanding and adding new material to it.

If the only way you can fathom liking female characters is by pretending they've done nothing wrong ever, then you don't actually like the female characters at all.

You can like Fleur, but you can't pretend that Molly and Ginny, who experienced immense socioeconomic prejudice and were repeatedly criticized for being poor, had no reason to dislike her, despite Fleur making a point to label every difference between her lavish life and their backwards living.

This does not discredit the effort Fleur took to redeem herself. It also does not ignore how unforgiving they were of Fleur and how quickly they made assumptions. There's a happy medium 👍

Harry NEEDS a fucking weirdo. He needs someone who will break him out of his self sacrificing daze long enough to go "what the fuck?" before he realizes it was just Luna. He needs someone who can remind him that magic used to be fun and still can be !!!!

I don’t think James fans realize how obnoxious they can be, or just are, and I say this as a James Potter stan/lover. Like, I love James very much, but (some of) his fans? Oh boy. 

They claim they want to hate Snape in peace, without Snape fans or apologists trying to defend him or attacking them. Yet they’re the main ones under every positive Snape video going on and on about “stan Bambi” or “anyways, stan James Potter,” they’ll literally even tag their anti-Snape content incorrectly just so his fans will see it, and it’s not only the most embarrassing thing to do or see, but it’s all so childish that you can’t help but roll your eyes at them. 

Personally, I’ve never actually seen any Snape fans under James videos doing what they do, but I won’t deny or disregard it just because I haven’t seen it. Maybe they do it too, but it’s definitely not as much as James fans do it to them (or from what I’ve seen, at least). And I don’t know if they understand, but James is a fairly popular character; he’s a fan favorite in the fandom (Marauders or just HP in general). So when said fans send in hate, it comes in massive waves. You’ll have James fan after James fan swarming the comments, spreading this negativity and hate, completely belittling these people. It makes them uncomfortable, feel less than, and afraid to express themselves (in a fandom that claims to be free to express oneself, to like whichever character(s) you want, to ship and let ship, and not follow canon, mind you), and it’s all just distasteful. That behavior is completely disgusting. 

You have every right to hate Snape (or whatever other character(s) you want) and to express that hatred on your own account. What you do not do, though, is attack his fans unprovoked (especially if you like other Death Eaters, because then you just come off as not so bright…and hypocritical).

I’m honestly tired of hearing the same old “she deserves better” to every woman being shipped with a man. If you truly believe she does, and if she actually really does, then fine. But in the work of fanfiction, why does this always have to be the case? Why not make the man better for her, or knock the woman down a notch (as in, let.her.have.flaws!) so they can be deserving of each other? Women are human too, show that, instead of taking away the things that make them them and turning them into these flawless beings of nothing but absolute perfection.

You may think you’re being progressive when doing or participating in this, but you’re really not. If anything, you’re being far more regressive, as you’re just shoving women in a box, where the only way for them to be a “girlboss” or a “feminist” is if they’re flawless, perfect, and made far above men to the point where none deserve them. And if they’re anything but, and happen to love a man or have flaws, then they’re just uncool, unfeminist, and have internalized misogyny (or you’re misogynistic for writing them as such).

As a person who doesn’t even like Snape, I cannot for the life of me take it seriously when fellow Snape dislikers say “Oh, Snape bullied kids so f him, he’s irredeemably and so evil” but than have a horde of different Death Eaters as their favorites or tagged as pro in their post.

It’s just like…babes…are you serious? Are we just going to skirt around who your other favorites are, here? Let’s not pretend like they’re not all a bunch of fascist in a cult, terrorizing and killing innocent men, women, and children, alike. Especially Barty freaking Crouch, he is literally shown going out of his way to get Harry, a child, murdered.

Like I really can’t comprehend this. Are you saying that bullying kids is worse than trying to murder said kids, and their loved ones? Cuz that’s literally what it sounds like 😭

It's honestly hilarious when people act like there's no information about the marauders and Lily in canon and therefore canon is irrelevant to the marauders fandom. As if Prisoner of Azkaban, Order of the Phoenix, Half Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows don't exist.

The source material provides LAYERS of relevant information about these characters to anyone who has basic reading comprehension skills. The fun thing about the fandom is all in how we get to take all the info we're given and more fully develop it. Not in blatantly rejecting it all and creating ships and characterizations that directly contradict everything that makes these characters who they are.

James Potter would never date a Death Eater. That's a fact. James and Lily dedicated their entire adult lives to fighting against the very evil that said Death Eaters represent. Also a fact. James and Lily were in love and would do anything for their child. Also a fact. Sirius and James were two tall, wildly intelligent and talented wizards who came from immense privilege but threw all comfort and safety to the wind in the name of fighting for justice. Also a fact. Regulus Black, Barty Crouch Jr, and Evan Rosier were all virulent genocidal maniacs who willingly joined a cult dedicated to slaughtering innocent people in the name of blood purity. Also a fact. Those three were not marauders and would never be friends or love interests for them. A fact. To deny any of these facts is just bad reading comprehension.

The point of fanfiction is not to make the characters completely unrecognizable from everything we know about them in the source material. To do that is just to write original fiction with unoriginal names. Which is fine...just call it what it is.
