a drawing of Doth, the masterpiece
Tumblr media
@thedawningofthehour
So, I was reading Third From the Son, DOTH, by Faiakishi, and I got to that infamous moment where Galois yells at Leo about his brother being dead and being consumed by crabs at the bottom of the ocean. If in itself the scene of him on the verge of a mental breakdown due to the sadness, confusion and guilt (among other emotions) that thinking about Donatello causes him and his ending brought me strong images, this definitely cements them. As is my custom, I had to use my older sibling's cell phone to draw.
I did my best, don't strangle me too hard. I tried!
I really like this work and its construction, not only of characters, but of worlds. I had made other drawings before, but I didn't dare to upload them. hope you like.

Just learnt about this dude Galois, absolutely crazy. so basically, he:
- tries to get into "Ecole Polytechnique", the French school for science at the time, and fails
-publishes several papers on polynomials
-his father dies
-tries again (and fails) to get into the Ecole
-publishes several papers basically founding group theory
-attends a lesser school, gets kicked out and eventually arrested for political beliefs
-died in a duel shortly after he got out of prison
AT THE AGE OF 20

I am working on expository writing this summer - head over to my handwritten (and in the works) blog to read about the analogy between covering spaces and field extensions.

Science education should be mandatory in university education
Tumblr media
In my view, the prosperity of IT in India and China is superficial. It all boils down to the absence of any Fields Medal winners in the mathematics that underlies computers in these two countries.
When I told a Japanese blog friend about this, he replied, "No, Indians have produced presidents of MS and Google, and SEs who graduated from Indian Institutes of Technology are highly paid." However, I had written to him in advance as a premise that "India is inferior mathematically, not in terms of economic success," but he ignored it.
So I compared Ramanujan, a leading mathematician from India, and Galois from France, and wrote that there was a huge gap between the two in their achievements, and that Ramanujan was far inferior. He didn't listen to the logic, moved on to other problems, and fled.
He is a graduate of the private Keio University, which is said to be an excellent university in Japan, and is a liberal arts major. As a common practice of this kind of student, they only trust what they hear and their ears, and do not try to think for themselves. Such graduates will only cause harm to the world.
Science courses should definitely be included in university education. A liberal arts-only education is 'harmful and useless'.
Rei Morishita

I was delighted to find your piece on the funeral of Nicolas Galois - what is your source for this? I'd like to be able to cite it (all the better if it is in French). Hwyl fawr - Roger.
Based on a quick search of the books I would have had access to at that time, my best guess is that it was Laura Toti Rigatelli's biography (which I read in English). I'm not 100% sure on that, though. Good luck!
(Assuming this is the post in question.)

Évariste Galois, citato da L. Infeld, [Whom the Gods Love. The Story of Evariste Galois], Tredici ore per l'immortalità, Milano, Feltrinelli, 1957 [Trad. G. Galteri]
