I think about the Sandy/Soda and Evie/Steve double dates constantly. I also just love to think of the dynamic between the four of them. Do you think Evie get jealous at how Steve looks at Soda, like he hung all the stars in the sky? Or even how Soda asks Sandy how she's okay all the time? Or the way he puts an arm around her so gently? Do you think Evie gets jealous? Or maybe it's Steve getting jealous at the relationship Sandy and Evie have. The way that they can just hug and put their arms around each other so carelessly without being seen as less of a man. Or perhaps it's Sandy that's jealous? Not of the way that Steve looks at Soda, she's used to that from the girls at the DX fawning over him constantly but of Evie's ability to push Steve off. To be tough and say no and all the things that are going through her head. She is jealous of the way that Steve just seems to take it too, like he knows that Evie just says whatever. He isn't phased or close to tears when she says she's in pain or feeling bad, he just helps her, no questions asked. Or perhaps Soda is the jealous one? The way that Evie gets Sandy to talk, to really say all the things that she would never tell him. The way she's known Sandy since they were learning to walk, she knows all the secrets and things that Soda will?

I just keep thinking about the dynamics between the four of them.

How they met:

-Steve has always thought Evie’s pretty, but in a hallway crush way- he never really met her until the incident at the police station, when they’re both sixteen (Stevie police station meetcute is @dallasgallant’s fantastic idea lol and I love it sm)

-Evie was also vaguely aware of Steve before that, but she just knew him as Darry Curtis’s little brother’s angry boyfriend sidekick

-I talked about/drew it in this post, but in more detail, I think the police station incident went like this:

-Evie’s mom dates a lot of not so great guys. Usually they leave Evie alone, but they’re pretty abusive towards her mom. On the day of the police station incident, one of them slapped her mom in the face. So Evie punched him so hard his nose broke.

-And then he called the cops on her. So she got hauled into the police station.

-That’s where she met Steve, who was at the station because he got caught for a bit of petty theft

-Steve hears her arguing with the cops while he’s waiting for Soda to come pick him up, and when she comes out of the office and sits across from him to wait for her Mom to get her, he says something like “You know, your crime was pretty tuff.” And then he cringes because that’s a ridiculous thing to say to someone, especially a really gorgeous girl

-But Evie, who’s had a hard day, actually really needed to hear that. She was standing up for her mom, and her mom didn’t even thank her, and now the cops just yelled at her and honestly scared her for it. She’s actually started second guessing herself- like is she crazy? Should she have hit the guy? Is she in the wrong here?? So it means the world to have Steve tell her he thinks her actions were justified

-She thanks him, because she’s legit close to tears at this point she’s so frazzled

-Steve elaborates on how badass he thinks she is. He rambles about it more than he otherwise would because he genuinely thinks she’s awesome for that, but he also isn’t used to complimenting anyone (especially not pretty girls), so he thinks he’s coming off as so uncool

-But Evie needs that, actually. So when Soda comes to pick Steve up, Evie makes sure she takes note of his name/who he is, and she starts purposefully showing up at the DX to “accidentally run into him”

General relationship h/cs

-All of Evie’s friends think Steve sucks, which is okay because Evie thinks their boyfriends suck too

-Like when she tells Sylvia, who I hc as her best friend, about Steve, Sylvia’s like “Ew, really?! C’mom, him? The one with the teeth? That guy’s such an asshole, I don’t think he’s ever said anything nice in his life.” Slyvia mainly knows Steve as an annoying friend of Dally’s, who has the same temper and poor attitude but none of the cool rebel allure. (Part of this disdain is that Sylvia just doesn’t find Steve attractive, like at all, so in her head he’s just a worse person)

-And Evie’s like “You can’t say that, you’re dating Dallas Winston.” (Evie thinks Dally is both unattractive and horrible to be around)

-Steve’s friends all love Evie though

-Soda thinks she’s so cool- he’d be jealous (of both of them) if he didn’t have Sandy (for now 😭)

-Evie is the only person Steve feels comfortable showing his deeper feelings. She’s pretty open about her own, so Steve can let himself be more sensitive around her without feeling like a total sissy. I mean, he’s open around Soda too, but honestly less. He still kinda wants Soda to think he’s cool, yk? Evie though is so open about how cool she thinks he is that he can let his guard down easier. (I mean, due to traditional gender norms, especially in the 60s, it’s easier for Evie to be open than it is for Soda or Steve I think)

-They’re both pretty physical- Evie may not wrestle people or affectionately punch them, but she likes physical touch too. Just with her it’s usually like. Less aggressive. She does get a little more aggressive with Steve though to kinda match his energy (translation- they both like PDA a lot)

-Evie’s tried arm wrestling Steve a handful of times- she hasn’t won yet

-But she has carried him before lol- he’d never admit it, but he loves it (He doesn’t need to admit it tho, she can tell)

-Evie’s good with reading people, but especially Steve. She can see right through his bravado and the more preformative aspects of his personality- like how he’s always wearing sleeveless things, obsessively checking his hair, the way he’s always gotta have attention or he’ll just die- and she thinks it’s honestly so cute. Like, he’s not just a cool tough hood, he’s also a dumb teen boy. And she finds that really endearing

-Steve finds her brain really attractive, but also very much her looks. That sounds shallow- hear me out. My version of Evie doesn’t see always see herself as conventionally good-looking- she’s a mixed race girl in a very white part of town, raised by a white mother who doesn’t know how raise a non-white kid, in the 19-fucking-60s. She’s tall, and not the most thin- she’s used to feeling too big, too dark, too much, from how she looks to how she acts to how she is. So having Steve see all that- all her emotions, all her anger, her height, her hair, her everything- and yet see her as the hottest chick in Tulsa and also probably the whole world matters so much to her. She’s never felt like she fits into the proper mold of good wholesome femininity and it kills her, so the fact that Steve sees her as the epitome of The Perfect Girl makes her feel so much better about herself. (I know this attitude probably sounds kind of dated, but uh. Again, it’s the 60s. So.)

-Similarly, Steve’s not always the most confident in his looks even if he acts like he is. Being best buddies with a universally beloved guy like Soda occasionally does make him feel like he’s ugly by comparison. Especially with his teeth and height and the fact that he’s less lean and slender than Soda- Steve’s shorter and hasn’t lost his baby fat and it feels lousy. (Little bit of Steve angst- I h/c that girls have gone out with him in the past just to get closer to Soda. It seriously fucked with his head, because he was so jealous and angry with Soda, but also loves and adores Soda, and it’s not Soda’s fault that he’s good looking and Steve isn’t… ) (Steve is still perfectly alright looking, even if Soda’s more conventionally attractive- but he’s also less friendly/charismatic than Soda) Anyway, having Evie go for him over Soda feels like a big deal- It’s happened before of course, but never with a girl he liked as much as he likes Evie

-Steve used to like reading, but he slowly stopped over time because he’s a JD and books are for sensitive babies like Ponyboy. But when Evie recommends books to him, he reads them and talks to her about them. He wants to understand her and all the things she loves

-In turn, Evie talks to him about cars- she likes cars too, but admittedly not as much as Steve does. Still, she’ll go with him to every motor show and often helps him out at the DX. She used to help her dad work on cars back when he was alive, and so she knows about as much about them as Steve does anyhow

-In springtime, Steve steals flowers from his neighbors’ yards and leaves them in Evie’s locker at school

-One time Ponyboy and Two-Bit catch him with the flowers, and they both make fun of him so hard for “going soft”

-Legit though, for Evie, he is completely soft. She could stab him if she wanted and he’d thank her (she would never do that but you get the idea)

-One time she convinced him to let her do his eyeliner. He thought it was ridiculous, but only protested a little- plus, it meant getting to stare into her eyes and admire her face for the whole time she was drawing it on, and he can’t complain about that

-When they first started dating, Steve was real insecure because he’s 5’7 and Evie’s 5' 7.5- and in the go go boots she always wears, she’s 5’9. And Dally would often make fun of him for being shorter than his girl which just made things worse. Deep down he was also kind of…physically into their slight height difference, which confused him so much. Over time though he got over the discomfort- besides, he might be shorter than her, but he’s still bigger/stronger than her so it doesn’t hurt his masculinity too much anymore

-Steve realizes he loves her when he gets sent to the cooler for lifting hubcaps. As he’s being handcuffed, Evie starts to cry- both at being disappointed in him, and from being scared for him. And for the first time since he was a little innocent happy kid, Steve reconsiders whether he wants to be a hood. Because if it makes Evie this upset…is it really worth it? And that freaks him out, because the only other person he’s ever cared that much about not disappointing is Soda

-Evie has loved him a little bit ever since they first met and he understood her when no one else did- but she falls in love with him when she’s had a fight with her mom and Steve comes over. He had been at some thrilling drag race with Soda, but he dropped everything to make sure she was okay as soon as he heard. Once he’s there, he listens to her talk, takes her seriously, and she’s never felt so understood and seen. And she knows then that she’s found someone who gets her in a way no one else does

-Evie steals Steve’s sweatshirts and jackets and occasionally even his jeans. In return, Steve wears her (more androgynous looking) jewelry- like her rings and chains and whatever. She almost convinced him to let her pierce his ears so that he could steal her earrings too- he chickened out at the last minute, less because of the pain and more because he didn’t wanna be seen as girly or gay (even though he is for Soda). Maybe someday when Steve’s older and more secure in his masculinity he’ll let her do it though

-Privately, Steve has already planned out how he’s gonna propose to her. He doubts he’ll go through with it until after Evie’s finished college, but he knows he wants to marry her someday

Sam Bishop is a family friend of the Goodwins, he's age appropriate for Del/Rita/etc..

Evelyn Goodwin married young, got divorced, seemingly raised Lewis mostly alone? Not sure if I have that right. But when she got divorced she did not keep her ex-husband's name.

But then Sam and Lewis see each other at the book launch, and if Lewis is his son then Sam would've just been a massive asshole. But, like, he is an adult, he can make bad choices.

Is it possible that Sam is Evelyn's ex-husband? Like, if they divorced when Lewis was very young, and he never would've known his father sort of thing? His name is Goodwin, after all.

In terms of the Story, it would be so good. Del falls in love with Colton (Evelyn's best friend) in 1974, then dates Sam (Evelyn's ex-husband?) in 2024. But I truly don't know if it's possible?? I'm too tired to remember if they've made mention of Lewis's dad/Max's grandpa at any point

Mother's Day was honestly the biggest inspiration and motivation for this fic. Funnily enough, a HUGE portion of this fic's events and scenes were written at the time around Mother's Day back in 2022. I know it seems out of place to have this now, but I digress. Hope you still enjoy!

Dr. Vyle is the head of Research and Development at Vykker’s Labs 16, one of the most notorious laboratories on Oddworld and one of the only airships in the Conglomerate’s possession . Dr. Vyle is immediately recognizable by his four sleek metal arms, which replace his natural ones. These arms, each equipped with different surgical tools and gadgets, were self-engineered after a catastrophic lab accident left him permanently disfigured. His decision to create and graft these arms onto himself was driven by both necessity and his relentless obsession with scientific advancement. The arms provide him with enhanced precision during surgeries and experiments, allowing him to carry out intricate tasks faster than any other vykker.

Dr. Vyle’s perpetually furrowed brow and deep-set, glowing yellow eyes and sharp, angular features give him a look of constant, simmering anger—even when he’s simply focused on his experiments. As the head of Research and Development, Dr. Vyle oversees the most disturbing and groundbreaking experiments at Vykker’s Labs 16.

His expertise in surgery is unparalleled, and he often performs grotesque modifications on creatures for the Magog Cartel. From gene splicing to organ harvesting, Vyle is at the forefront of Oddworld’s most heinous scientific practices. His office is a chaotic mess of surgical tables, glass tubes filled with mysterious fluids, and rows of grotesque specimens—many still alive—suspended in jars. His mechanical arms allow him to conduct multiple procedures at once, making him a whirlwind of efficiency. However, this mechanical precision is also what makes him detached from any sense of empathy or morality

Dr. Vyle is intensely focused on his work, with little patience for distraction or incompetence. He’s known for being cold, calculating, and unfriendly, even among his fellow Vykkers, including his personal assistant, Lenny. His demeanor is clinical, but there’s a barely-contained frenzy in the way he operates. When presented with a new challenge or discovery, he becomes obsessively excited, though this excitement often takes a sinister form, especially when it involves invasive procedures or dissection. Like most other vykkers, Vyle has no moral compass—he views everything through the lens of monetary value and scientific curiosity. He is perpetually irked by anything that disrupts his carefully constructed world, and nothing vexes him more than unpredictability—especially when it comes in the form of one particular human girl.

Dr. Vyle’s life took an unexpected turn when he stumbled upon the human girl, Evie, floating unconscious in a river when the interns at the lab were retrieving captured test subjects in the forest. When she was first brought to him, he was immediately intrigued by her pale skin and unfamiliar anatomy with Vyle initially referring to the creature as “Specimen 117” with Vyle believing that she was some form of mutated mudokon or evolutionary offshoot until he heard her calls herself a “human”. Vyle’s excitement grew immensely when he realized that he could be dealing with an entirely new species that was likely worth astronomical amounts of moolah.

At the lab, the subject refused to cooperate despite her very obvious fear, and found ways to grate on Vyle’s nerves, with her yelling strange phrases and disrupting the invasive experiments Vyle attempted to perform on her. Evie one day freed herself from the lab by wiggling out of her restraints, knocking Lenny in the head, and stealing an elum meant to be used in an experiment and freeing several other test subjects before escaping the lab atop the elum.

The loss of Evie has enraged Vyle, and he has since issued a hefty reward for her return, spreading the lie that she is in fact a dangerous mutant and a threat to Oddworld. His reputation- and a significant amount of profits- rests on retrieving this elusive “human” and he will stop at nothing to have her back.

The way they made Uma the new headmistress of Auradon Prep last movie but she's not going to be in this movie but Fairy Godmother is, aka likely Uma will have a in-universe excuse for being absent while Fairy Godmother will likely be covering for her at Auradon Prep...what was the point of Uma becoming headmistress this point when it was always unlikely Uma would return in future films...could have just made her a council member whose helping oversee Auradon Prep matters in last film and in future films is busy with other stuff if she's not in the film....

Meet the Yamamoto twins from Inkopolis! They are known for being talented and passionate about their respective area (Kaito in Turf Wars and Katsumi in fashion). Despite their different personalities and a few arguments between them, they share a close sibling bond and stick to eachother in times of need (in spite of growing distant with one other).

7 years ago, Kaito was the first to be recruited by Captain Cuttlefish as Agent 3 while Katsumi was travelling across Inkadia at that time. Shortly before the events of Splatoon 2, Katsumi decided to search for her brother and did a few Turf Wars to shape herself up (with very mixed results). She later met Agent 4 and they both got recruited by Marie.

Oddworldtober Day 23: Fingers

The sky above the Monsaic Lines had darkened, with the only light coming from campfires or lit torches from the village Abe and his fellow mudokons had sought refuge in. Abe had been wandering around the village while receiving endless amounts of praise from the mudokons he had freed from the farm, all of them cheering wildly when he walked by, with some raising bottles of brew in the air.

Exhausted but alive, he stayed near the edge of the village, surveying the surrounding wilderness, a place he had only just gotten the chance to experience, even if it consisted of running from sligs and dodging dangerous predators. Abe sighed before noticing a familiar shape- a lone elum grazing on the dry grass. Abe’s heart skipped as he got up and began to approach the elum, believing it to be the same one that had helped him in his quest. But as he approached, he noticed this elum’s horns were different and it looked at him with big wide eyes as it shifted it weight on either foot.

“Hey there buddy,” Abe said as he got closer “What are you doing out here?” The mudokon inched closer with his hand extended before Abe heard a rustling in the grass and suddenly felt a sharp thud hit squarely against the side of his pointy head.

Abe stumbled, his vision swimming as he heard the elum run away. He then felt a hard slap against his back as he spotted a small figure darting around him in the corner of his eye, grunting and yelling in the process . Abe then reached out and grabbed a stick that was just about to hit him again and held on tight. Abe could then finally see another figure holding onto the stick and trying to wrench it free.

The smaller creature then stepped back, holding the stick almost like a spear and allowing the mudokon savior to finally get a decent look at his attacker.

It was pale and dirty and smaller than him and was dressed in a white dress that was stained with dirt and mud, it breathed heavily as it held the stick, ready to strike again. It glared at Abe with intense eyes, it walked on two legs just like him except its face was flatter, its head was covered in short…feathers? Feathers that only came to its chin and its gaze was intense.

“Stay back!” It-no- she snarled in a hoarse voice that was higher pitched but not unpleasant to listen to. She raised the stick again as she eyed Abe, who raised his hands in the air, palms facing the…mudokon? With his eyes wide.

“Who… or *what* the hell are you?” The smaller figure demanded, hereyes narrowing after looking him up and down as she dug her feet into the ground.

“Uh, I’m Abe,” he said, his hands still raised “I saw the elum and I was just seeing if I could-“

“He’s mine,” the figure said gripping the stick tighter just as the elum peeked his head over the grass, hooting softly as he looked at the mudokon. Abe swallowed hard, not sure what this creature could do and not wanting to scare her away.

“I didn’t mean any harm, I just saw him and thought- well it doesn’t matter. I’m not here for a fight. The strange creature glared at him a moment longer before glancing at the elum and then cautiously lowering the stick but not letting it go. “So…what’s your name?” He asked “You got a name right?”

“Evie” she said after watching him for a moment longer, her gaze occasionally turning to the forest.

Abe sighed, relieved that she wasn’t attacking him anymore, and titled his head, finally able to get a better look at the..mudokon? It seemed to have five fingers on its hands, long and slender unlike mudokon fingers. Her body was dirt streaked and smaller than a typical mudokon’s but her muscles were still coiled despite the exhaustion as if ready to strike again. Abe guessed she had likely escaped from another factory.

“I’m not gonna hurt you,” Abe repeated, lowering his hands, “ But I get it if you don’t trust me” The elum came forward and hooted at Evie, who cautiously placed a hand against his side as the creature snorted and began to pace behind her.

“Alright, but if you try anything-” she tapped the stick against her palm to which Abe nodded.

Neither girl nor mudokon knew at the time what fate had in store for them and northern noticed the green eyed ratz watching the scene unfold from the shadows before leaping off into the forest

Finally managed to get this one out, I was having trouble getting it (especially Evie’s face) to turn out how I wanted and I don’t really like the little short story since it could potentially change in the future, but oh well!
