Transitus Comic Studies
These were meant to be colored but alas. Faulty art supplies. Still like these sketches though! They’re lifted from the OG comic book. The idea was to only use direct poses and scenes from the source material and try to infuse some more productive character design into them.
Focus on status of a given character (and changes in it) and some stronger air of historical reference, kept as far away from my own personal head canons of the characters and their backstories as possible.
Really had fun with these. Great figure practice ✏️
#ayreon#transitus#art#tldr of the essay these came with that ill never post:#Daniel’s character is extremely static and he never develops#him looking more and more middle class looking the further he strays from his family and home could help that along a bit#Abby is hypersexualized to no justifiable end and it makes her horrifying story arc a lot harder to take seriously#the progressive loss of structure in her funeral dress could mirror her mental state in act II and have a parallel with Daniel in Act I#Henry is well designed but he’s not communicating the type of asshole that he actually is#hes manipulative and careful and purposefully physically removed from the awful shit he does#he’s obsessed with upholding his own and by extension his family’s reputation and thus has the most incentive to look pristine + respectabl#also too hats aren’t worn indoors that’s like a basic etiquette thing#Lavinia is a downright racial stereotype in an album telling you not to judge people by that sort of thing#in addition she drags every other character’s writing down with her nonsense motivations and gimmicks#at the very least take away the g*psy persona#Abraham…doesn’t have enough canon info to get any sort of informed design in there#but the belt he has in the comic wasn’t invented until the 1920s#it wouldn’t have killed Arjen to add a location for this story either#sketch#character design#character study#1880s#Victorian era#gilded age#belle époque#historical fashion#concept album#rock opera#arjen lucassen

My uncle died nineteen days ago and his funeral is tomorrow
I’m going to wear Cornish tartan: because he was Cornish: a headmaster who loved to sail and was also involved in the coastguard —all down here (where I am right now) in Cornwall
I am also going to wear some flowers, in what can only be described as a “funeral corsage” and due to the obvious dissonance of that juxtaposition of words I googled them and find someone saying:
I have recently been asked about the appropriateness of wearing flowers to a funeral. Please let me make it very clear, it is inappropriate to wear corsages or boutonnières at a funeral.
This is a somber occasion and the wearing of flowers symbolizes celebration.
Well, I disagree
They’re pretty and Cornwall/West Penwith themed—my uncle would have liked them
I like them; and whilst funerals can be sombre, it’s hardly mandatory—he was 79 and had a full life and a good death

I can't recall the proper way to act in these settings.
And I must remain here for over 2 more hours.
I hope I'm appearing normal enough for us.
#the clowns are rambling instead of dancing#we're still blurry. but I hope I'm acting human enough for this function. the funeral will be worse#but I walked to his casket. I bowed my head and murmured our silent prayers. That's what we'd do right? That's the right course of action?#It felt as if it was only fair. Proper. Show this man thst I don't feel I know the respect our core would had he been here.#Of course I don't show respect out of just need to conform to etiquette. I wanted to. I think.#cw funeral#cw death

I think we should bring back etiquette classes. People used to tell you what to do in situations.... I'm well meaning I just need help sometimes!
#was reading the year of magical thinking#and there's a bit in it where joan describes an etiquette book on how to act during a funeral#and maybe it looks obvious in retrospect but I could've used it. a north star. tell me what to do

Leaving Cards - Funeral, christening and wedding cards: unfashionable.
The sending "funeral cards" after a death in a family is almost inadmissible in society. To do so would be considered old-fashioned. The sending christening cards also is equally inadmissible and equally out of date. The practice of sending "wedding cards" is also out of date, and out of fashion, and the doing so therefore would be an anomaly in the eyes of the fashionable world.
Manners and Tone of Good Society; or Solecisms to be Avoided, A Member of the Aristocracy, c.1886 (13th edition) [x]
This concludes the first chapter on Leaving Cards. Please remain attentive that the above "fashion" of sending funeral, christening or wedding cards relates particularly to the late 1800s - 1880s in particular - and norms and fashions varied considerably over the century.

Answering Quick Questions Related To Funeral Etiquettes
The funeral is always the most complicated event to attend as people are often unsure and clueless about funeral etiquette and several other things like attendance, condolences, gifts, attire, etc. Experts in funeral services can guide you, and the fact is that funeral services directors are always on standby to answer all your questions related to funeral etiquette to help you stay organic and comfortable at the event. Some common questions you can ask funeral services directors about funeral etiquette are reviewed here.
WHAT IS THE RIGHT TIME TO ARRIVE AT FUNERAL SERVICES?
Arriving half an hour earlier than the scheduled time is always a good idea as you will have enough time to park your vehicle comfortably, make some quick updates on your look and attire and join the service by selecting the appropriate seating and settling yourself.
WHAT DO I DO WHEN I ARRIVE A FUNERAL?
As you enter the funeral venue, the first step is to sign the condolence book if the funeral services directors provide it. You must put your name there and remember it is not an autograph. You must also leave a quick condolence message of a maximum of one or two sentences, including your name and explaining your connection with the deceased.
WHAT TO SAY TO PEOPLE AT FUNERAL SERVICES?
It is always challenging to determine the right words to say to those already sad and grieving. However, offering compassion and grief is necessary, and the most straightforward messages you can convey are presented below.
Some simple phrases of comfort include:
I’M SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS.
YOU ARE IN MY THOUGHTS.
YOU ARE IN MY PRAYERS.
HE/SHE WAS A WONDERFUL PERSON.
I WILL MISS HIM/HER.
THIS MUST BE HARD FOR YOU.
I AM HERE FOR YOU.’
WHERE SHOULD I SIT AT THE EVENT?
This is a crucial point, and you must be very careful about this as most front rows are reserved for immediate family members and closest relatives or friends. Close friends are seated behind the family, and work colleagues are on the backside. You can determine your relationship with the deceased and select suitable seating before the event begins.
WHAT ABOUT CLICKING SOME PHOTOGRAPHS AT THE FUNERAL EVENT?
It is generally considered insensitive to click photographs or selfies at the funeral event. Funeral service directors recommend refraining from clicking images and, particularly, selfies at the funeral ceremony.

Huh. Black fur hat is actually a perfectly correct hat for a winter funeral. So your mom was wrong not just on the grounds of practicality, but of etiquette, too.
I don't know if you're ever done being struck by random Adult Hindsight on things about your parents, but pouring my tea this morning it suddenly just struck me just how weird boomers are about things like keeping up appearances and being presentable. I mean don't get me wrong, there definitely are times and places where you need to dress and act appropriately for the occasion, but being appropriate shouldn't take priority over the occasion itself.
My grandfather died in the heart of a remarkably cold winter, in peace with himself and after a long life and a brief illness. It sounds like a bizarre cliché to say, but it was agreed that very few get to pass as well as he did. His funeral was held on the coldest damn day of that winter. I needed to buy new clothes for it, a white scarf and a more simple, understated cap, since my mother thought that my usual winter hat - a big, black, fuzzy ushanka - was too frivolous for the occasion.
The cap didn't cover my ears and didn't offer much protection, but it was better than not having it on. The funeral was held on a freezing cold sunny day that my grandfather would probably have liked very much, but being outdoors at all - not to mention standing in the cold, with no hat on - gave me a headache within minutes, and I would rather have kept my hat on for as much of the ceremony as possible, while my mother kept hissingly whispering me to take it off, not put it back on yet, and when I was allowed to wear it again. My ears were freezing and my head was aching and I was just as annoyed by this tug-of-war as she clearly was.
If you asked her, I'm sure she would say something about how it's unfortunate that I didn't know how to behave appropriately at a funeral - worded in some way of how it's Surely Not My Fault that I wouldn't know any better, but with a strong undercurrent of making it clear that her children not knowing proper manners is not her fault, either. But ma'am what the fuck?
Your father has died and you spent the whole time fussing about my fucking hat??

A follow up of this poll.
*Additional comment from the submitter: ❝Encouraged, as in, your culture and the family of the deceased encourage people they don't know to attend the funeral of the dead (in other words, everybody is welcome), because it's to show respect, even if you're not family or friend — this is the case in my country. The family of a public figure or a person who died in a tragic incident that makes nationwide news often encourage the public to attend the funeral of their loved one. And it's considered a kind and thoughtful gesture for someone to attend a funeral of someone they don't personally know, because it's seen as a tribute.
I've seen this being debated a lot because in some culture, a funeral should be reserved only for family and friends of the deceased. While in some other culture (like mine) anybody can attend anyone's funeral and it's seen as a kind gesture.❞

Funeral Etiquette: Everything You Need to Know
The death of a loved one is a difficult time for everyone involved. In addition to the emotional pain, there are also practical arrangements to be made, such as planning a funeral. Funeral etiquette can help guide you through this process and ensure that you show your respect for the deceased and their family.
What to Wear
The most important thing to remember when choosing what to wear to a funeral is to be respectful. This means avoiding anything too casual or revealing. In general, dark, subdued colors are appropriate. Men should wear a suit or dress pants and a collared shirt, while women should wear a dress or skirt and a blouse. If you are unsure of what to wear, it is always best to err on the side of caution and dress more formally.
What to Say
When you arrive at the funeral, it is customary to offer your condolences to the family of the deceased. You can say something simple like, "I'm so sorry for your loss." If you knew the deceased well, you may want to share a fond memory of them. However, it is important to be sensitive to the family's grief and to avoid saying anything that could be construed as insensitive or inappropriate.
What to Do
During the funeral service, it is important to be respectful and to follow the lead of the family. If you are not sure what to do, simply sit quietly and pay your respects. After the service, you may want to offer to help the family with practical tasks, such as making food or taking care of children. You can also offer your support by simply being there for the family and listening to them.
What Not to Do
There are a few things that you should avoid doing at a funeral. First, it is not appropriate to take photographs or videos. Second, you should avoid talking about yourself or your own problems. Third, you should not ask the family about the details of the death. Finally, you should not drink alcohol or smoke at the funeral.
Following these basic guidelines of funeral etiquette provided by Lapaz Funeral Homes Miami will help you show your respect for the deceased and their family. By being respectful and considerate, you can help make this difficult time a little bit easier for everyone involved.
Here are some additional tips for funeral etiquette:
1- Arrive on time. 2- Be quiet and respectful during the service. 3- Do not take photos or videos. 4- Do not talk about yourself or your own problems. 5- Do not ask the family about the details of the death. 6- Do not drink alcohol or smoke at the funeral. 7- Offer your condolences to the family. 8- Help with practical tasks, such as making food or taking care of children. 9- Be there for the family and listen to them.

Hi! Today, I’m sharing a list of mods that I consider essential for playing historical gameplay in The Sims.
I often have friends who want to dive into the Decades Challenge but aren’t sure which mods to use or where to start. So, in this post, I’m going to share the mods I personally use and think are indispensable for creating that authentic historical experience.
Deaderpool's MC Command Center: This mod allows you to manage and modify many aspects of your game, including handling pregnancies, university careers, and enabling teen relationships so your Sims can marry earlier, among other features. You can also enable autosave and adjust the length of a Sim day.
Lumpinou's RPO: This mod enhances relationship dynamics and expands pregnancy features. It's extensive, with many modules, and once you've tried it, you won't want to play without it.
Pandasama's Realistic Childbirth: Offers multiple realistic childbirth options, including natural bed births and spontaneous labour, adding depth to your Sims' family lives.
MizoreYukii's Arranged Marriages: Allows you to arrange marriages for convenience. Parents can agree on marriages for their children, but breaking the arrangement won’t be easy.
Necrodog's Carriages and Horses: Adds functional carriages, enhancing immersion. While it doesn't work with the horses of Horse Ranch pack, it’s still incredibly useful.
Kuttoe's Enlist in War: It will allow your Sims to enlist in the war. Whether they live or die will be random, but if they survive, they'll receive the Veteran trait, a lifetime pension and some lasting traumas.
JaneSimsten's Regency Romance: Perfect for simulating the Regency era. It adds class differences, property ownership, etiquette skills, new traits and careers, events, and widowhood. Though inspired by the Regency era, it works well for later decades too.
SimKatu's Reading Animation Override: Changes the reading animations, with different ones for men and women, making your Sims’ reading time more immersive.
Zero's Deadly Dickensian Sicknesses: Introduces the risk of diseases like Tuberculosis, Typhoid Fever, and Cholera. It’s incredibly realistic with its contagion system.
Adeepindigo's Healthcare Redux: A comprehensive health mod that adds various illnesses and treatments, including tuberculosis and (early access) cancer. While Sims can buy modern medicines, many illnesses can be cured with natural remedies.
Adeepindigo's Simulated Endings: This mod will enhance everything related to your Sims' deaths, allowing them to take out life insurance and designate beneficiaries, arrange funeral preparations, and introduce stages of grief for your Sims.
MizoreYukii's Functional Broom: Adds a functional broom with its own animation, letting you keep your Sims’ homes clean without resorting to modern vacuums.
Triplis's Quit or Join School: In case you need your teens or childs to quit school.
The Kalino's Farm Animal Set: Expands your farm with more animals, including goats, sheep, ducks and more, in addition to the standard cows and chickens.
JaneSimsten's Write With Quills: Replaces your Sims' pens with quills, adding a touch of historical accuracy.
JaneSimsten's Sidesaddle Override: Allows female Sims to ride horses sidesaddle, as they would have in the past.
JaneSimsten's Parchment Computer: Replaces modern computers with parchment and quills, complete with their own animations—perfect for pre-typewriter eras.
Frankk's Language Barriers: More realism to sims being from different worlds.
Rs4ella's 1920s Grade School Homework Override: Changes the look of the kids' homework book to a 1920s style, but it works well for earlier periods too.
Xbrilliantsims's Toddler Bathtime Overrides: Replaces modern bath toys and sponges with more era-appropriate items when bathing toddlers.
Lunamoth's Historical Infant Carriers: Swaps out modern baby carriers for fabric slings, suitable for any historical era.
Lunamoth's Rope Pet Leash: Replaces the modern pet leash with a simple rope, making it look more appropriate for historical gameplay.
300yearschallenge's Historical Baby Bath Override: Changes the baby bath seat to a more suitable design, or you can opt for
Sassymissollie's Invisible Infant Bath Seat to remove it entirely.
JaneSimsten's 5 Day Work Week: Choose Your Own Work Hours: Lets you adjust your Sims' work schedules for a more realistic experience.
JaneSimsten's Marksmanship Skill: Adds a marksmanship skill, allowing your Sims to practise shooting and hunting, with the hunted animals available for cooking.
Littlbowbub's Ye Olde Cookbook: Enables your Sims to cook historical dishes, perfect for low-income Sims in older settings.
Basemental's Basemental Drugs: Although mainly known for adding drugs, it’s commonly used for its smoking features, letting your Sims smoke cigarettes and cigars like a proper Victorian gentleman.
MizoreYukii's Children/Toddlers Can Die of Anything: Allows your child Sims to die, useful if your storyline requires it.
Ayoshi's Phone to Notebook Replacement Mod: If phone elimination mods are causing issues, this mod might help. It replaces the mobile phone with a small notebook, which could pass for a mini Bible or an old-fashioned notebook.
JaneSimsten's Extra Cross-Stitch Patterns: Adds historically accurate cross-stitch patterns.
