JK Rowling being a Holocaust denier wasn’t on my 2024 bingo card but in hindsight it probably should have been.
At this point I don’t care how much Harry Potter means to you, I don’t care if it saved your life, if you think having some dumb fucking House scarf from a made up fantasy series is more important than calling out a white supremacist, transphobic, ableist hag then YOU are part of the problem and you are just as bad as she is.

is it mean to point out the fucked upness of people idolizing characters (from a children’s book series as grown ass adults) as a form of comfort as their support for the property actively strips away human rights from trans people? Like baby let it go and come join us to discover new joyous aspects of life that ground you in the present and help uplift people
i mean, i do get it. it's hard to let go of things that make you happy. it's hard to force yourself to stop caring about something, especially when that something meant a lot to you once and you now feel like it's entwined with who you've grown to be. neil gaiman's "coraline" was so important to me as a kid that when the news about gaiman broke, one of my reactions (besides horror and disgust) was this instinctive wail of no, no, that's my book! i love that book! i don't want it to be ruined!
that being said i do think continuing to engage with harry potter shit at this point is kinda spineless and self-absorbed. there's no recognition of consequences, no acknowledgement of personal responsibility. these people are so wrapped up in their own little worlds that they see no issue with reblogging a personal post made by a trans person and tagging it with "this but wolfstar!!" or "regulus would do this <3" or whatever. i don't think it's immoral per se but i reserve the right to find it annoying lol

Normally with the discussion matter of sex I'd put it on my other blog because I'd like to keep as much of NSFW and SFW subject matters separate (personally for me) but I really feel the need to say something about Lord Moldemort's post here today and am willing to put in on my main blog
Tumblr media
First off way too many fucking likes on this post I hate you all, and her if I haven't made that clear (if I've never been clear on me hating J.K Rowling then I've been doing something wrong on my blog). It's not surprising to me in the slightest that she is targeting yet another marginalized group, especially one in the Queer community.
And it's very important to know that Asexuality, and these varying branches of it, is a Queer identity. Sex, in at least American culture, is something pushed onto people, for means of procreation and something that is "natural" for people to want, for teens to engage in things like that. Media for a long time has had depictions of sexual content. Some good, some bad, and overall something that "happens to everyone".
In my opinion, I still think it's important to showcase these things in media. I know people joke about watching a movie that has a sex scene, and your mom walks in and the awkwardness that ensues. Which is fair. But even if something is uncomfortable, that doesn't mean we shouldn't acknowledge it. I believe that removing sexual topics in media would be more harmful, as you could argue that "Oh well this doesn't add to the plot", could spiral into an argument thats "Well we don't want sex in movies and I think that LGBTQ themes are inherently sexual so therefore let's not show it" (I'm certain many queer individuals have experience this argument that Queerness is inherently sexual so it's bad for kids yada yada). But whether you want to engage with that is up to you, obviously. I personally think it's important to showcase these sexual topics. AND to showcase how an individual would reject the topic of sex for themselves personally due to their Asexuality.
Growing up, I felt like I was odd for not liking sexual stuff or not feeling horny like my peers in high school, and I felt like it was a milestone that I had been missing. Discovering Asexual labels around that time brought me comfort that others felt the same way, too. Now as I'm older, while I am unsure if I still fit into the Ace Spectrum, as my thoughts and feelings about wanting sex has changed from when I was a teen (though I know you can still be on the Ace Spectrum and still have sex, it's just something I gotta figure out later), I still feel happy that there is something I can look into and find a sense of community. Because of how much the American culture has pushed the ideas of "in order to be considered normal, you have to have sex"
The act of J.K Rowling making a post like this is very contradictory to her statement of this day acknowledging Asexuality is "Fake Oppression" because she is actively making fun/disregarding these experiences. Y'know, discrimination, which... false under oppression???
The American culture pushes an idea that we have to have sex, cause it's normal, which they typically consider sex between man and a woman as "normal" because it's for procreation. When Queer people don't want to have sex with an individual of the opposite sex, that is "unnatural" and "not normal", you are seen as a minority, and fall under the LGBTQ community, because you are going against the majority culture.
So, why can't this apply to Asexual people? It's the same thing. They are not having sex in a culture where sex is pushed into people, and so they are considered "not normal" for feeling an "unnatural" feeling. To be considered straight by the American culture, you'd have to have attraction to the opposite gender. So when you don't have that, then what would be considered as?
Queer, of course.
So this day is important for people, and it's important for those who don't know. It's important to have that recognition.
And her response to a comment is very telling on why we need that recognition, because it's harmful if we dont:
Tumblr media
You have men in this culture who, upon being rejected by a woman who doesn't want to have sex with them, go out and kill/brutally rape them. Or the idea that men have to have sex and if a woman rapes him then "he should be lucky". It's a very serious issue for straight people, with even further complexities for gay people.
And once again, THE SAME FUCKING THING CAN BE SAID FOR ASEXUAL PEOPLE!
They are not being ignored to death you dumbass. They could actually die or be raped for the same reasons that a straight or gay individual could. Because the majority American culture pushes the idea that "sex is normal and natural" so when they have a feeling thats different from the main culture, they are treated differently and harshly by the other party member and are not respected due to their feelings.
Anyway, I'm not sorry for this rant, but I am sorry if maybe I get a few things wrong, I'm happy to make any edits to this/reblogs that add onto this point.
Fuck J.K. Rowling for this post, it would not surprise me if the mold in her house continues her downward spiral into bigotry (like she already isn't a bigoted person to begin with but I think she's capable of sinking lower past Hell itself).
And to those who are on the Ace Spectrum, I hope you continue to find a sense of community despite idiots like her.

She Who Shall Not Be Named
When I was in second grade,
I read all your books in two weeks
I wanted to be like you
A writer renowned the world over
I would write letters to your characters,
It’s how I got my start
You inspired me,
Gave me joy,
Shaped me to be who I am
And then I grew up
And suddenly,
I am a monster
A 15 year old pervert who will sneak into restrooms
To leave tears and smashed innocence behind
When I am still fragile myself
A cup just waiting to be chipped away
And washed down the drain with blood

Me from age old enough to understand transphobia to a few months ago: I will never EVER watch Harry Potter again, buy anything Harry Potter related, or even LOOK in the direction of Harry Potter because JK Rowling is a TERF.
Me now with a gigantic Marauders hyperfixation: I think we got lost in translation.

Can I just say this part of the casting call for the new golden trio of the Harry Potter reboot is fucking hilarious as shit for so many reasons???? For starting orders, JKR with diverse characters??? The jokes write themselves, really, because the same woman who had characters defend elf's being slaves to someone trying to free them and the same woman who can't even google Asian names and named a black character Kingsley Shacklebolt, being diverse in a reboot??? Let alone the same woman who wrote werewolf's as being a representation for AIDs and claimed a character who had been dead for a while by that point was gay the whole time but had chosen to stop being gay or at least never love someone else because his one love had been a villain being fine with new actors having sexualities that aren't straight??? And the same woman who throws up at the mere sight of a cis woman who isn't up to her standards of a woman and throws tantrums about trans people on a daily basis??? Potentially around kid actors who don't identify as cis??? And I cannot even recall if we had ANY character in the books who was disabled, so like, uh, I'm scared how JKR will tackle this one, and its not mentioned but religion is among those protected by law with casting and just, given JKR had every single character celebrate Christmas and confirmed only ONE Jewish student attended Hogwarts...yeah no.

I’m enlightened enough to understand that the peak “amicable” harry and snape relationship dynamic is not “snape adopts/acts as Harry’s adoptive parent” it is “snape becomes Harry’s annoying mean big brother and they take turns throwing things at each other”

Pro tip on world building, look for everything J.K Rowling missed or dismissed and develop more into them. It’s easier to find where someone else’s ideas lack than your own.

listen, i love the harry potter world. the way the fandom formed it, all the headcanons, how fans interact and connect with each other. i would not trade knowing this fandom and harry potter for anything. ive found amazing people through it.
but on the other hand, it thoroughly pains me to support JKR. i hate that woman with every inch of my body and i don’t want to support her further (i don’t invest in anything that is HP related).
