Chapter 13: The Knitting Fairy

This is my story about Sabine & Marinette for the @mlbigbang. The story is from Sabine's POV as she tries to figure out what has been traumatizing her little girl (who, by the way, will not tell her anything).

Thanks also to @uptoolateart and @raspberrycatapult. These two absolute legends get me through the gauntlet chapter in and chapter out.

Synopsis

Sabine trains Ladybug in martial arts. She needs a little miraculous help to keep up. And then an old friend she'd once had for dinner shows up.

Extract

Sabine still wasn’t sure how she felt about sharing her home with a god. She seemed nice enough, but didn’t gods usually come with words like Ragnarok, Armageddon, and...Cataclysm?

At least she didn’t live with whatever god gave Chat Noir that ability. What would it be like to break bread with something that could end reality?

What if her partner ever went crazy and touched Marinette with that power? Could the Goddess of Creation hold off the Goddess of…Destruction?

Sabine felt the blood drain from her face, recalling what she’d read in Marinette’s diary. She had been so high on adrenaline and fear that her memories were a threadbare quilt, unraveling even as it was stitched together. There was something about Chat Noir, and…

Her skin froze, and she felt like someone had curled their fingers under her rib cage and pressed up into her organs. Our love did this to the world.

Okay but can you IMAGINE if the earrings had gone to Alya like Marinette wanted them to? 

Instead of having a "designated responsible hero", Scarabella and Chat Noir would just be a pair of gremlins high on life because THEY'RE SUPERHEROES OMGOSH they would spend half their time geeking out and basically exuding chaotic sibling energy the entire time. 

They would reveal their identities to each other right off the bat because neither was paying attention when they were told not to, and Tikki just groans. Alya and Adrien quickly bond over being new kids at school who have superpowers, and everyone else is baffled.

Alya decides to try Clark Kenting and run the Scarablog, and Adrien is like "that's an amazing idea I'll help!" and shenanigans ensue. Marinette (who knows Alya is Scarabella since she snuck the earrings to Alya before any of this started) has befriended Alya as in canon but HASN'T told her that she knows her identity, so she gets dragged into the Scarablog staff and ends up doing most of the fieldwork and vlogging, desperately trying to do anything to cover up Scarabella's and Chat's identities (she knows Scarabella's, but doesn't know Chat's) while trying to avoid getting distracted by Adrien, who she's crushing on big time like in canon. 

For his part, Adrien gets totally enamored with Marinette because Ladybug isn't there to distract him and because Scarabella is already more sibling material than lover material, but he thinks Marinette dislikes him and his brand so instead tries to woo her as Chat Noir and more shenanigans happen. 

Nino, however, is low key crushing on Scarabella, and joins the Scarablog staff to try and learn more about her. Alya finds this amusing and kind of adorable, but doesn't really reciprocate for a while because she and Nino don't get locked in the zoo. She does let him investigate on his own, because she thinks pursuing the truth is a noble endeavor and in the meantime the blog can use his skills. Marinette starts silently screaming because GOSH DARNIT the identities are supposed to stay secret! 

Chloe is a huge fan of Scarabella and Chat Noir. She keeps trying to force herself onto the Scarablog team… But Alya is having none of it and throws her out. Chloe engages in spying shenanigans and tries to force Sabrina onto the team in her stead, but that just results in Sabrina getting character development. 

Lila shows up. Nino, desperately trying to learn more about Scarabella, falls for her lies hook line and sinker (sorry Nino, someone has to) but since Alya and Adrien both know each other's identities they see through her lies and (with Marinette) burst her bubble almost immediately. However, since Marinette actually has free time she can do her job as Class Pres and calm Lila down (a la zoe-oneesama's Scarlet Lady AU), and soon Lila shows up on the Scarablog's door offering to investigate Hawkmoth. Her main goal is fame and fortune, but eh Alya knows a good tool when she sees one. Chloe is fuming, and soon Lila gleefully engages in Spy vs Spy shenanigans with her. 

Fu is like "WHOMST IS SCARABELLA" and tells Adrien that Scarabella isn't supposed to be the Ladybug wielder and Adrien briefly angsts about it but is like "who cares have you met her she's literally a great hero and that's what matters" 

Fu is undeterred and keeps trying to give Marinette more miraculouses and she just keeps them in her room and doesn't use them

idk if anyone has written about this before but there's this big parallel/foreshadowing in terms of wang fu and fang duobing's biological fathers. specifically I'm thinking about this line from fang duobing in episode 2:

"you've not once thought of wang fu for over 10 years until you killed your witness and finally remembered the son you abandoned. what a great father you are. you only want to prop him up to be used to keep this soulridge order in the palm of your hand."

this is almost word for word what shan gudao did with fang duobing — only remembering him and offering him power when it was convenient and helped his overall plan. additionally, both xin lei and shan gudao hid their identities and wormed their way into established organizations (the soulridge order and jinyuan alliance respectively) with plans to betray the leader and seize power

i didn't catch this on my first watch but i'm guessing it was meant as a hint for when we learn shan gudao is fang duobing's bio dad and when it's clear shan gudao isn't quite who li lianhua remembered him to be

Synopsis

Sabine came to this sewer to kick teenager ass and chew bubblegum, and she's all out of bubblegum.

Extract

Her two copies froze as she adjusted to double the sensory information. She was looking at herself. When one copy moved, she felt it in the other copy. Or was the copy feeling it and she was feeling what the copy was feeling? Was she the copy? No, the copy was her. Or she was it. Her.

Us. We are the copies.

The sewer smelled just as awful from either pair of nostrils.

The two Duoshus placed left palm to right palm, feeling the pressure, and she was reminded of placing a candle between parallel mirrors and seeing a hundred reflections of the light diverging into an illusion of distance.

“Hey,” one of them said into the other’s ear, and the speaker heard the greeting in her own ear.

My God, this is weird.

It was like being at a loud disco trying to have a private conversation. She had two sets of thoughts in her head, or in her heads, but with some focus, she could listen to one train of thought and ignore the other.

ONE-ARMED BOXER VS. THE FLYING GUILLOTINE (1976), aka MASTER OF THE FLYING GUILLOTINE.

Yet another Jimmy Wang Yu film where he is the one-armed protagonist (he also had a series of One-Armed Swordsman films).

In this one (which I believe is the second One-Armed Boxer flick) he battles fighters from various countries with their own unique styles, including this Plastic Man-wannabe.

Only then does he get to take on the nigh-indefeatable big bad guy, armed with the titular Flying Guillotine (basically a hat box with saw blade teeth on a chain), who's been decapitating people left and right throughout the film.

I consider this to be the best of all the films that I've seen that used the flying guillotine motif.

Writing Prompt: Division of Labor

When Master Fu was naming Ladybug as the next Guardian, he thought for a moment, “what if she fails?” and then looks at Chat Noir, and a last pitch effort plan comes into play

“I, Master Fu, hereby name both Ladybug and Chat Noir as the guardians of the miraculous!”

The miracle box began to glow and change, splitting into two and rockets towards Ladybug and Chat Noir, Ladybug receiving a oval shaped box covered in spots, while Chat Noir receiving a similar box, but with paw prints instead of spots

How will Ladybug and Chat Noir manage to protect the miraculous? On the bright side, the miraculous aren’t all in one place anymore
