Hello! I recently tripped face first into an obsession and I want to start getting into the comics (specifically red hood) so where should I start? There's so much and I'm a bit overwhelmed
It’s totally okay to feel overwhelmed, there is A LOT of media to cover. But here is the thing that I like to remind people, you don’t HAVE to read certain comics in order to enjoy a character. You can be a Batman fan and only read absolute Batman. You can be a Nightwing fan but have only read titans. And that’s okay! There is no right way to dive into the comic world. Go at your own pace, and you’ll find the style of stories that you most enjoy!
That being said, here is a list of comics I think are great for beginners (apologies for the long post):
- Nightwing (Dawn of DC) great story and art.
- Titans. Both Rebirth and Dawn of DC have some good stories.
- Teen Titans. Again both Dawn of DC and Rebirth have good stories!
- Superman: Son of Kal El. A great intro to Jon Kent’s Superboy, with a great story and amazing visuals.
-Like the Damian and Jon dynamic? SuperSons (rebirth) and Adventures of the Super Sons
- Batman and Robin: Year One. A more recent take on Bruce taking in Dick. Super cute and explores their characters well.
- The Kami Garcia Titans Books (Raven, Beast Boy, Beast Boy Loves Raven, Starfire, and Robin) A modern take on the characters with super great art by Gabriel Picolo.
- Constantine: Distorted Illusions. A modern younger Constantine novel, also by Kami Garcia.
- Superboy: The Man of Tomorrow. Explores Conner Kent finding his place in a world full of supers.
Now, in regards to Red Hood. You’ve got some options.
-Death in the Family
-Red Hood and The Outlaws (New 52) now I know this isn’t everyone’s favorite run, but I personally enjoyed it, and it ties directly into Red Hood and Arsenal which gives us peak bromance
- Red Hood and the Outlaws (Rebirth) ft. Bizzaro and Artemis
- Nightwing Annual 2021. Can not recommend this enough. Gives us a really good brother story between Dick and Jason.
-Batman: Under the Red Hood
-Red Hood: Lost Days. Haven’t read it personally yet, but have heard good things.
-Task Force Z. Another one I haven’t read yet, I’ve heard it’s kinda like a suicide squad type thing.
Also can not recommend these free reads on Webtoons enough:
- Batman: Wayne Family Adventures
- Red Hood and the Outlaws
- Zatanna and the Ripper
Most of these can be read on Dc infinite for free (can’t read certain comics without a subscription, can get a 7 day free trial then it’s $7.99 a month)

Kami, Oxter

[I'm back! It's the start of a new school year, so I've been busy busy busy. I do hope to return to my summer schedule of one new monster a week.
And what a monster we start with! Oxter is one of the weirder designs in Return of Ultraman, but has connections to Ultra kaiju before and after. The plot of the episode, and Oxter's acidic powers, feels a lot like Stegon, who I've already statted up here. And the same author who wrote this episode wrote an episode of Ultraman Ace with another bovine kaiju, Cowra. The Cowra episode is notable not for the powers or appearance of the kaiju, which are fairly sedate by the standards of Ultraman Ace. But the way a character turns slowly into Cowra feels like it started out as transformation fetish porn, and then was repurposed into a kid's show about a giant silver alien/angel who punches monsters. The "writer's barely disguised fetish" trope goes way back.]
Kami, Oxter CR 19 N Outsider (native) This creature’s head resembles that of a cow, but its anatomy otherwise bears little resemblance to ordinary animals. It is bipedal, with a thick slug-like tail and stumpy legs. Its back has a high bony hump, and its head is set low on its shoulders. Instead of arms, it has large red horns, which articulate on jointed stumps. Its ears stick out at a wide angle, and a ribbon-like tongue flickers in its tusked mouth
An oxter is a bizarre kami that guards a site of mass animal death and protects their remains from desecration and disrespect. They can be found in any natural environment, from tar pits and volcanic craters to water holes that had dried up at an inopportune time. Oxters do not care much for the reasons their ward might be disturbed and respond to any disturbances with violence. From wizards seeking out supplies for necromancy or golem construction, to scientists studying the natural processes that occurred at the site, all are likely to find themselves subject to the oxter’s destructive scrutiny.
Oxters are slow and cumbersome on land, but they are surprisingly mobile in the water. As such, they often remain stationary and probe out disturbances using their supernaturally long tongues, which can extend for hundreds of feet. These tongues are coated in corrosive saliva, and anyone who gets close to an oxter will be sprayed by a torrent of acid. An oxter’s melee weapons are its horns, which are capable of surprising mobility and can strike repeatedly at multiple targets as if they were swords. Oxters have few spell-like abilities in comparison to other kami, but can use magic to move through impeding terrain or to smite interlopers in a particularly desperate battle. An oxter will fight to the death to protect their ward.
Because of their association with mass mortality events, oxters and stegons can be found in association with each other. Stegons are the only undead creatures oxters will tolerate, and the kami see such assemblages as a natural consequence of particularly serious disturbances. Oxters will permit other creatures to live in their wards, even sapient ones, as long as they respect the peace of the dead who lie there. They rarely associate with other kami unless their wards overlap, but in such cases the oxters tend to defer to their more intelligent kin, even if they are much physically weaker.

Special Abilities Horns (Ex) The horns of an oxter are capable of making iterative attacks as if they were manufactured weapons. I'm in love of the bleak atmosphere and the foreboding tone in when evil lurks there is no hope no one will get out unscathed I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it and antenna i will just say that there a bathtub scene that still makes me sick every time i remember it 😨

Surprisingly both of these dramas came out in the same year on 2019 and they are both favorite to me in different ways in kingdom i guess it's the zombie media that I enjoyed and would re-watch again and strangers in hell is enjoyed the slow build of an ease and total isolation the ml and how he seem always find himself in more and more fucked up situations i think 🤔 i gravitate to hopelessness in horror hmm.

It was a pleasant day at the HQ as usual, humans and few na'vi including dreamwalkers were seen around doing there own duties, as well as So'lek. He had a frown embedded to his face, why? Because of you, his pretty little tánhi.
Seeing you talking with a human, billy specifically. Made his blood boil, out of the people you chose to talk it has to be Billy Nash. He sulked in jealousy as you chuckle and laugh at Billy's jokes.
Finally he stood up and walked over to them. "Oel Ngatie Kamie, Sarentu." He brought his hand to his forehead and let it down making the well known, "I see you" sign.
"Oel Ngatie Kamie, So'lek" you said with a gentle smile making So'lek's heart skip a beat in secrecy, Oh how he wished to kiss that lips of yours but as much as he wants that he knows what he's here for.
"I'm sorry to intrude your talk but I have to discuss something with Billy" He said while placing his calloused hand on the humans shoulder literary towering over the pathetic human. "Oh it's fine, So'lek. I don't mind." you said and put your attention to Billy. "See you around, bill. Hope to hear one of your jokes again." You shot a wink at him before leaving them making So'lek grin a bit.
Once So'lek made sure you were out of sight he dragged Billy in a secluded part of the HQ before looking down at them with fury and anger. "You should know what to touch what's not yours, Billy." So'lek said with evident anger as he thought what to do with this human. "Oh come on, So'lek I wasn't doing anything on them, though I didn't recalled Sarentu calling you as his mate so typically you don't belong to her"
As Billy spoke So'lek's anger was building it up and once the human stopped talking he lunched forwards grabbing ahold of it's neck, suffocating him. "You just don't know, human. Your pathetic and weak and you dare to speak to me that way. Though as Sarentu said hear once more I'll make sure they'll never hear you again."
With a firm grip on Billy's neck he broke it and dropped the lifeless body on the ground mercilessly kicking it even te see if it was still alive.
So'lek eyes we're full of anger as he saw the looked at the body, as much he would never admit he was obsessed with the Sarentu he'll do anything to make them his and his only even forcing tsaheylu.

-Arceus basically Adopts you so you are a child of Arceus, and Rei/Akari is Arceus' grandchild
-Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina are irritating and great siblings.
-Rei/Akari are actually Demigods because they biologically became Players Children when he entered the game.
-13 ft. God form-god of domains related to games mechanics
-maybe Kami(japanese gods) ascetic
-maybe Player Adopts Rei/Akari who is Lavington's assistant as well.
-player has deep hatred and malice towards Kamado, Beni, and Volo for their attempts to harm their child(Kamado throws Rei/Akari out of village with the intent of them dying in the wild, Beni attempting to assassinate them(he is a ninja, who shows up to stop you, ninjas only do that with intent to kill!!!!), Volo straight wants to kill them, plus wants to Enslave Players new God Dad, and siblings.)
-Player is prone to flirting with Cylene, Arezu, and Cogita.
-Ingo is Rei/Akari's Uncle figure, Player decides he's a good uncle to them an refers to him as brother.(if it was a streamer Au as well, Gear station would be freaking out about a God referring to Ingo as brother, as well as accepting him as Rei/Akari's Uncle.)

Interesting concepts 👀👀
I really like the idea of the heroes possibly just becoming your kids if you desire it, and they wish it as well.
It would be funny to see them as demigods. After all, they can survive great falls and heal almost instantly, and when they ‘drown’, they always end up okay anyway 👍 maybe they are demi gods after all?

Rokurokubi

[I didn't much care for the Pathfinder 1e version of the rokurokubi. Not that it's a bad monster; it's a fun take on the rokurokubi as a hag. But it's not a good representation of the actual folkloric entity. The rokurokubi is one of many yokai that seem to exist as a way of entertaining male anxieties about women, particularly in the context of a society as patriarchal as Edo period Japan. So many yokai look like beautiful women... but then they getcha! And a lot of them getcha because you deserved it. These yokai start as humans, and then form from the abused, the neglected and the downtrodden. These people don't have a real voice in society, but turning into a monster lets them act out. Sound familiar?
Which is why, even though the Paizo's 2e rokurokubi has acceptable art, I'm not using it. Because it's a man, and rokurokubi are women in the stories nine times out of ten. Plus, I'm posting this for Monster Girl Summer.]
Rokurokubi CR 3 CN Monstrous Humanoid This woman is beautiful, but clearly monstrous, as she has a neck that is twice the length of the rest of her body.
A rokurokubi is a cursed creature that represents the adage “turnabout is fair play”. The misdeeds of a person, particularly a wealthy, egotistical and stingy one, can cause their child, lover or other person close to them to become a rokurokubi. This especially occurs if the person to become a rokurokubi is abused, as it empowers them to strike back at their tormentor. Rather than sleep, the newly formed yokai begins to play pranks in the night, anything from drinking all the lamp oil to startling people by peering around corners to inflicting bloody wounds. They prefer to ruin lives and reputations rather than kill, at least initially. Most rokurokubi end up quite enjoying their new state, and move around in society after having dealt with their initial oppressor.
Many rokurokubi live their lives as uninhibited and hedonistic people most of the time, revealing their monstrosity in order to get something they want or to lash out at someone who is rude to them. Their necks can be as short as that of an ordinary (albeit willowy) person, or as long as a constrictor serpent's whole body. Their teeth are sharp and inflict bloody wounds, and they are experts at scaring people. Perhaps the strangest ability of a rokurokubi is its ability to drink oil and heal from it. Even alchemical bombs can be swallowed safely, if the rokurokubi manages to catch them in their teeth.
Rokurokubi can form from any type of humanoid, although most of them are human. In patriarchal societies, women more frequently turn into rokurokubi than men, but any sex and gender is possible. They have the lifespan ordinary to members of their original species. A few rokurokubi reject this, making pacts with shadowy powers for immortality—these are the universally sinister rokurobabas.

Drink Oil (Su) As an immediate action, a rokurokubi can attempt to catch a thrown flask of oil, alchemist’s fire or alchemical bomb in its mouth. It makes a Reflex save with a +2 racial bonus against a DC equal to the attack roll made with the flask. If it succeeds, it takes no damage and instead heals 1 hit point per die of damage that would ordinarily be dealt. Threatening Lunge (Ex) If a rokurokubi extends its neck and makes a bite attack in the same turn, it can make an Intimidate check to demoralize the opponent it bites as a free action with a +2 racial bonus.

Lesser Hakkari Kami - CR11 Kami
There is a guardian spirit for all things. Even blood.

A weaker version of the CR 15 Hakkari Kami, a monster I previously posted. In an adventure that ends with the CR 15 version the Hakkari Adherents would be lower level minions that the PCs mow through six at a time, but in an adventure that ends with this CR 11 version, the Hakkari Adherents would be pretty powerful leiutenants.
This creature is based on Hakkar the Soulflayer, a loa demigod from from Warcraft. In the Warcraft setting, loa are divine beings connected to nature, usually taking the form of specific types of animals, which grant power to those who worship them. There are countless loa, many of which are worshiped by groups as small as a specific family, which might have very minimal power. Hakkar is a more powerful one; he’s known as the loa of blood, and takes the form of a wind serpent. I’ve adapted this idea into a kami for Hakkar’s Pathfinder conversion; there’s no type of outsider in Pathfinder that perfectly matches the loa, but kami are close enough to work.
In Pathfinder, kami are a lesser-known type of outsider which are usually neutral aligned and peaceful, watching over a specific type of creature, object or place that they consider their “ward.” There are a huge number of different types of kami which each watch over certain types of wards. A hakkari kami’s ward is spilled blood, and it’s not nearly as peaceful as most others.
Like other kami, hakkari kami find themselves stretched thin, with too many potential wards and not enough kami, and seek to create more of their kind in order to protect more wards. They do this by choosing dedicated mortal servants to ascend to kami when they die. In the case of the hakkari, these mortal servants tend to be those that offer countless blood sacrifices, especially sacrifices to the hakkari kami itself, and who may even take their own life in a ritual sacrifice in an attempt to gain the hakkari’s favor and ascend to a more powerful form. If cornered by powerful enemies, a hakkari’s weaker followers may choose to kill themselves instead of fight, hoping to ascend and become kami themselves instead of passing to the afterlife, and gain enough power to then fight their foes.
A lesser hakkari kami is likely to be one of these followers, newly ascended and not yet in full command of its powers.
I included a line of text stating that a kami can choose a new ward by spending 24 hours attuning to it. This isn’t listed in the general rules for kamis’ wards, but I feel confident that it must be intended by the developers for there to be SOME way to obtain a new ward. Otherwise, kami that have short-lived creatures like insects as their wards would only have a ward for the first few years or months of their immortal lives, and then be left sickened and purposeless for all eternity. Since insects are even listed as one of their example wards, I assume that probably isn’t the intent of how this type of outsider is supposed to work; they should be able to take a new ward if their old one is killed or destroyed.
This creatures uses the overwhelmed condition, a custom condition I use in some of my creatures. In my own home games, I nearly always replace any paralyzed, stunned, or nauseated effects caused by monsters with the overwhelmed condition.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Blood Siphon (Su) As a standard action once every 1d4+1 rounds, a lesser hakkari can drain the blood from targets in a 40 ft. cone. Each target takes 6d8 damage and is overwhelmed for one round. A DC 21 Fortitude save halves the damage and negates the overwhelming effect. Creatures that do not have blood are immune. The lesser hakkari is healed for an amount equal to half of the damage dealt. The save DC is Constitution-based.
If a lesser hakkari uses its blood siphon against a creature that is poisoned, or that has poisonous blood (such as from the poisonous blood universal monster ability, the toxic blood spell, or a vishkanya’s toxic racial ability), the lesser hakkari receives no healing from that creature and must save against the poison.
An overwhelmed creature is staggered and cannot concentrate. If an overwhelmed creature attacks or casts a spell, it falls prone and becomes helpless until the beginning of its next turn after doing so. Effects that would remove or prevent the paralyzed or nauseated conditions also remove or prevent the overwhelmed condition.
Cleansing Bloodrage (Ex) Once per day, while below 25% hit points (usually 39 hp), a lesser hakkari can enter a bloodrage as a free action. While in a bloodrage, a lesser hakkari gains a +4 morale bonus to his Strength and Constitution, as well as a +2 morale bonus on Will saves. This bonus to Constitution typically increases its current and maximum hit points by 30. In addition, it takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class.
This bloodrage lasts for 1 minute. When a lesser hakkari’s bloodrage ends, it is fatigued for 1 minute. It cannot enter a bloodrage while fatigued.
While bloodraging, a lesser hakkari can cast and concentrate on its spell-like abilities, but cannot perform any other action that requires concentration, and cannot use Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride).
When a lesser hakkari enters a bloodrage, it is affected as though by the cleanse spell, regaining 4d8+15 hit points and recovering from a variety of conditions and effects.
A lesser hakkari can enter a bloodrage even while under the effect of a condition that would normally prevent it from taking an action, as long as that condition is one that can be removed by the cleanse spell, but doing so uses a standard action instead of a free action.
Corrupted Blood (Su) As a move action, a lesser hakkari can corrupt the blood of a target within 60 ft. The target takes 2d6 negative energy damage, and must succeed on a DC 23 Fortitude save or be subjected to 1d10 bleed damage. Creatures that do not have blood are immune.
Whenever a creature takes bleed damage from this ability, all other creatures within 10 ft. of that creature must succeed on a DC 19 Fortitude save or begin bleeding as well for 1d10 bleed damage. The save DCs are Charisma-based, and the secondary save includes a -4 penalty.
Fast Healing (Ex) As long as a kami is within 120 feet of its ward, it gains fast healing 10.
Merge with Ward (Su) As a standard action, a kami can merge its body and mind with its ward (see the Ward ability below). When merged, the kami can observe the surrounding region with its senses as if it were using its own body, as well as via any senses its ward might have. It has no control over its ward, nor can it communicate or otherwise take any action other than to emerge from its ward as a standard action. A kami must be adjacent to its ward to merge with or emerge from it.
Ward (Su) A kami has a specific ward—in a lesser hakkari’s case, its ward is spilled blood, either from a specific creature or on a specific sacrificial altar. Several of a kami’s abilities function only when it is either merged with its ward or within 120 feet of it. If a kami’s ward is portable and travels with the kami to another plane, the kami does not gain the extraplanar subtype on that other plane as long as its ward remains within 120 feet. If a ward is destroyed while a kami is merged with it, the kami dies (no save). If a ward is destroyed while a kami is not merged with it, the kami loses its merge with ward ability and its fast healing, and becomes permanently sickened, until it chooses a new ward.
If a kami’s ward is killed or destroyed, it can choose a new ward by spending 24 hours attuning to it.
