Unpopular opinion but I'm glad Overhaul got closure with his Pops. I know everyone's upset that Overhaul, a villain and murderer and child abuser, gets to live and get to see Pops, while half the League is dead or dying. I'm very upset about the League too. But giving Overhaul this closure is exact what Heroes should be doing in principle. Mercy, and then rehab. I just wish they could've extended it to the League. I'm mad that it's available and possible and the League wasn't allowed it, but I'm not mad that it exists. It's just that this chance should be given to everyone as well.

(in my unpopular opinion. if you try to dole out saves by criteria of 'good heart' and 'suffering' and 'number of evil deeds' and etc etc etc, you'll fail before you begin, because it'll turn into an argument with endlessly moving goalposts. Just this chapter Spinner goes and calls Shoji an octopus, making him a fantasy-racist. Someone will say this is where to draw the line of saving, and they have a point. It is an argument you can make. Just this chapter one of the interviewee said Shigaraki killed her friend - reminding us that Shigaraki killed a lot people; while statistically, Overhaul's kill count is probably lower. Just this chapter Chisaki cries and begs forgiveness; while Shigaraki and Toga were both pretty unrepentant. It's a losing endeavor to argue in this vein, I think. Just save all villains. A net wide enough to catch everyone. It doesn't mean all Villains should get Hero besties and not suffer any penalty and there aren't different levels of repentance; just give that base Chance and Mercy and Rehab.)

I need to reread the comics again to have specific arguments/evidence for this, but like

I feel a bit like I could've been sympathetic to the way other Cybertronian colonies view Cybertron, if it weren't for the fact that at least several of them (as in, ones that get notable dialogue/screen time) are so low-key self-righteous?

Like, idk... there's a lot of criticism of Cybertronians because they're so "warlike" and how their obsession with violence and vengeance is just dragging the whole galaxy down with them, but uh. The Autobot-Decepticon war was basically a product of societal ills bubbling over for like 6 million years beforehand and then finally boiling over into a 4 million year war that lasted as long as it did because the people involved had immense social/psychological trauma from being "raised" in an oppressive society.

So when the colonists come in being all 'omg you people are so violent and uncivilized why don't you just like, stop fighting' it kind of pissed me off a little bit as a reader/person like. Idk the colonists really came into this society of people full of massive amounts of trauma where even before the war society was super oppressive and no one has any experience of living "normal" lives unaffected by violence and bigotry. And the colonists were like "ummm wow why don't you guys just??? stop fighting???." Like idk it wasn't EVERY SINGLE MOMENT, in fact I think that when it was played for laughs it's quite a funny "fridge horror" type element. It was just annoying because like.... IDK???? It's just really annoying to watch a bunch of people who lived relatively sheltered lives on their own planets come to a different planet full of traumatized people and be like "omg why are you people so fucked up" IDK BRO MAYBE BECAUSE THEIR SOCIETY WAS OPPRESSIVE AND THEY LIVED THROUGH A LIFELONG WAR???

It also doesn't help that the colonies were literally founded based on imperialism and conquest so like, it's fucking rich to hear colonists scolding Cybertronians for their violence ruining the whole galaxy while literally sitting on planets that their Primes colonized from others. The hypocrisy of this is briefly mentioned in Unicron (literally the FINAL STORY OF THE SERIES) but like, that's basically the only time Cybertronian characters are given a reprieve of sympathy from other characters in universe and it's so tiresome.

I've talked to other people who didn't like the colonists and thought they basically (narratively speaking) existed just to shit on the existing characters, and it's actually really easy for me to sympathize with/outright agree with that assessment of the story considering how much of exRID/OP seems to be preoccupied with "Cybertron/the Primes/Optimus sucks" with very few reprieves for anything positive happening and even fewer chances for characters to get to explain themselves and experience a little bit of justice? Like, as the audience, it's just very frustrating to see the characters you spent hundreds of issues keeping up with get shit on by a bunch of "literally-who"s and then not really get a chance to ever defend themselves, either by literally defending themselves in conversation or having some sort of narrative thing happening that vindicates them at least symbolically

okay i am damn delusional now so be prepared for orv x genshin, aka: dokja venti sookyung are found family pre scenario, underground killer never existed thanks to venti's persuasion, later sookyung venti adopted kimco, hades and persephone become dokja godparents.

in an afternoon of february 15th, a small wind wisp suddenly appeared in front of dokja and sookyung. she was very cautious at first, but her son seemed to be very, very enthusiastic about the new friend, so she decided to let it slide (she didn't want to ruin her little son's birthday, and truth to be told, her instinct told her that this 'being' doesn't want to harm anyone). the hesitation did appeared at first, but it soon disappeared. they talked about various things in their life, dokja and sookyung would chat about books and the wind wisp, named venti, would tell them myriad of legends at his home country - the nation of wind mondstadt, and from other places at his world called teyvat. how he got lost to here is a mystery three of them could not solved, but someday someone will have the answer for that.

when days are tough for dokja and sookyung, venti would eases their pain with his 'magic' (though it didn't work too well compared to when he were in teyvat, but it worked somewhat), reads folk tales and sings lullaby for them. when days are okay for dokja and sookyung, all three of them would go to the park close to their house with a book, sit under a old tree and read it together, or play with the soft breeze and take a nap under the care of winds.

but good days did not last long. dokja sookyung killed the father and went to jail, left her dear family: her dear son and her little wind wisp behind.

dokja read everything again. again. and again. just like how his mother told him.

the wind never left him. never left her. he embraced them, the wistful winds echoed with their hearts.

when sookyung wrote the first letter of 'underground killer', venti appeared in front of her with his mortal form, grief bleeding from every fabrics of his existence. venti told her not to write it, because dokja would commit suicide few months after the publication of the book, and he did not open his eyes again.

needless to say, sookyung cried herself to sleep, and venti embraced her and sang her a lullaby to sleep.

she threw the paper, never thought about writing the book leading to her little son's dismay again.

Maybe you've mentioned it before but I didn't see it and I'm curious, what's the exact deal with Gaius and gladia, what did he do? :0

This is sort of a complicated thing, but the simple answer is he did his job!

The detailed answer deals with his backstory as having been born in Flame Legion to an Iron Legion dam who, when he was around two, fled with him back to the Citadel, and shortly after went on her final patrol. Babby!Gaius dedicated himself to the idea of becoming the best soldier in Iron Legion to live up to/make up for the loss of his dam. Fast forward to when he's 21 and made gladium after losing his warband. After a year of self-loathing, he's able to enlist in Blood thanks to some favors, and he eventually transfers back to Iron, and eventually makes his way to Centurion.

But the problem is that Gaius has really no talent for Iron legion type things. He's a great soldier and strategist, but he's got none of what makes Iron Legion Iron. Additionally, he's not actually in charge of soldiers who are part of the things that he's good at--he's just in charge of engineers and shit, so the vast majority of his job is paperwork.

Except that he also gets to do disciplinary action, and the primary folk that get sent his way are awol wannabes being made gladium. He beats their asses, lops off a horn, does their paperwork, and they're gladium.

This was his job for around 13 years before personal story, where he was pretty much allowed to enforce his belief that the only good gladium was a gladium who was doing their best to throw themselves back into action. His personal story is separate from that of what occurs in game, where after being invited by Rytlock on an assault on Barradin's Vault (you know, the tutorial) he gets caught up being framed for actually killing a pair of gladia whose horns he'd recently cleaved. His personal story is spent being demoted to legionnaire and gathering a band to help him figure out who's framing him and why.

As you can guess from things you've seen lately--this perspective isn't something he's proud of? He's 48 at the start of personal story, and the exposure...to everything that occurs as commander really helps him grow and become more empathetic, and, well. Unfortunately, he's still got a reputation, since among Iron, he's unfortunately better known for his time as centurion than anything he's done as pact commander except IBS (you know, the phenomenon of people knowing you before you got big and since everything you did while a hero was outside their periphery--no matter how big it was--it doesn't feel as real to them).

its soo weird how cis people sometimes immediately feel entitled to know about you sexually. like even in middle school people would ask the age old questions of ''whats in your pants'' (they already know they just want you to say it) ''how do you masturbate if you're trans'' (????)(oddly common too) and more sfw version is ''if i date you does that mean im gay or straight'' (and any answer would make them defensive of their own sexuality as if that has anything to do with a question about hypothetics)

it's this distinct feeling of alienation and "Other" where people can't wrap their head around you being anything different than they perceive you as. if you ask a girl, who identifies as such, ''what's in your pants'' it would correctly be identified as an invasive question. but being Other is more prevelant than your humanity, meaning these questions are often seem as reasonable or not needing any criticism on why it is being asked in the first place.

obviously curiosity in itself is morally neutral, and i even enjoyed answering questions that were from an actual place of inexperience and wanting to know more, even if they were phrased in insensitive ways. but when it's these violating questions, more often than not it's an attempt to debate or discredit you and your identity. a lose-lose scenario where even if you played into these questions in a way that denies yourself your gender identity, then that's just that. you've lost. but you could also argue until you're blue in the face, bring research that disproves transphobic rhetoric, bring theory and essays and papers that go into it more detailed than ever. bring real biology disproving the women vs men brain idea. it's never going to get across because why would these people agree with someone they already see as lesser than human?
