Trying to figure out TP Link's diet based on his environment.

Livestock-wise, we've got cuccos and goats. That means

Eggs

Milk

Butter

Cheese

Potentially meat, but I don't think they get eaten unless they're old. Too valuable otherwise | EDIT: Oh yeah you need to breed goats every couple years to get milk. Add in cabrito veal!

And we know for a fact that Ordon Goat Cheese specifically is a thing. Stamped wheel and everything.

There's also fish

And bees/hornets(? It's called bee larva, but the enemy is a Hylian Hornet)

Useful for bait, but Link can eat them.

Did some more research, and apparently in Japan they eat wasp larvae? Specifically in Kushihara. So I'm counting it.

Then plants-wise we have pumpkins

And...corn. Somehow. I've never seen corn growing, but Link has some hanging in his house, so it exists.

I'm choosing to believe it comes from these plants that grow in patches around Ordon.

That gives us a lot. We've got

Cornstarch

Cornmeal

Corn oil

Corn shoots

Pumpkin seeds

Pumpkin seed oil

Pumpkin flour

Pumpkin blossoms

No source of sugar, but depending on how the pumpkins in Ordon taste, they could be naturally sweet. Like pie pumpkins. Also corn syrup is a thing if it's a sweet corn. So corn syrup needs cream of tartar which comes from grapes and apples and such. It's a byproduct of wine. No corn syrup.

Edit: Malt sugar, though!

Now for hypothetical foods.

Ordon is surrounded by pine trees, so that adds pine needle tea and pine nuts to the mix. I was a little worried about species, but apparently there are a lot of pine trees that make edible seeds, so on the list it goes.

Then there are frogs near Rusl and Uli's house, wild songbirds on cliffs, and a squirrel that talks to Link directly, so those are huntable sources of meat.

Is horse grass a cattail? Maybe? Initially, I thought it was—the ends look like cattail seedpuffs, but the leaves are completely different.

I want to treat them like cattails. Cattails that also are probably the main food source for Epona and the goats.

If we do that, that means, on top of all the other uses cattails have like stuffing and tinder and antiseptic, we get

Shoots

Ground seeds

Can't find a good match for hawk grass though. Concluding that that's not edible. Equivalent exchange and all.

Side note, how do you think horse grass spreads? It's almost always in groups of two or more plants, so that suggests rhizomes, but the image of Link picking one up to blow and stuffing flying out the end of the horseshoe is hilarious to me.

Up next, there are ferns, primarily near trees. After very careful and way-too-deep analysis of a pixelated fern's leaves, I think it's bracken fern.

Which is mildly poisonous.

And also edible.

On the list it goes!

Then finally, Sera has some kind of herb hanging in her shop.

I don't know what it is. I'm calling it Ordon Spice. Congratulations, Ordon Pumpkin Spice is now a thing.

“Oh! How cute is this one!” You picked up a Hello Kitty plush on the shelf as you browsed the toy shop.

You were spending time with your boyfriend, who had begrudgingly agreed to visit the store with you, but not without complaining most of the way. Even now, he stood a few steps behind you, and every time you glanced back at him, he was either staring at the ceiling or his feet.

The smile on your face grew as you picked the plush next to the first one you spotted. “And this one! I didn’t know Hello Kitty could also be a bunny.”

“That’s My Melody.”

“Hm?” You turned around at the sound of Whitney speaking. He rolled his eyes and took a step closer to you.

“Don’t be so dumb, slut. Hello Kitty isn’t a bunny. This is My Melody. It’s just a different character made by Sanrio.”

“Oh…” you blinked slowly, a little put off by the insult. “I didn’t know.”

Whitney sighed. “Yeah, that’s what I would expect from a dumb orphan slut like you.” He stepped closer still and began pointing at different plushes on the shelf. “Hello Kitty is the most popular, but there’s a lot of different characters Sanrio has. See? The one with the black is Kuromi, that one goes along with My Melody. The frog is Keroppi. And this is Cinnamoroll,” he handed you an adorable soft, white toy. “You probably think this is a bunny too, but Cinnamoroll is actually a dog. So is that yellow one. That’s Pompompurin.”

You nodded, trying to keep up. “Okay. Wow. I didn’t know there were so many.”

Whitney picked up a green plush - he said that was Keroppi, right? - and turned it over in his hands. “Yeah. There’s a lot more, too. But I wouldn’t expect a shit store like this to carry those. They only sell the most popular characters here. The good shit you gotta import from Japan.”

“Okay…” you said again.

“Like I said,” Whitney repeated, placing the toy back down and fixing you with a stare. “I wouldn’t expect a stupid slut like you to know anything about it.”

You frowned, though, as something dawned on you. “Wait. How do you know all of this?”

Whitney didn’t say anything at first, but his stare grew icier. You subconsciously took a step back. “I mean…” you tried to say, but he lifted up a hand and with a quick swipe, he knocked over the entire display of toys. They came tumbling down with a crash. And when you opened your mouth to say something, Whitney used that same hand to push your shoulder, sending you flat on your ass.

He shook his head with a tsk, looking at the mess. “What a clumsy slut. Look what you did! How embarrassing. You better get up, too,” he looked over the top of your head. “Looks like the manager is coming, and he doesn’t look happy. See ya around, bitch.”

And with a quick mock-salute, he spun on his heel and sped out of the store, leaving you alone surrounded by plush toys on the floor.

It’s been months since you’ve been back to the home where you’d grown up. It’s gotten harder and harder to find the time between teaching your students and exercising curses.

But you and your husband always made time every year to make sure you got back during Mardi Gras.

See you came from New Orleans, Louisiana and you left home your last year of high school to attend jujutsu high. It was the top school for learning to use your cursed technique so you’d jumped on the opportunity when it presented itself.

This led to you meeting your husband, Nanami Kento and also one of the amazing friends you’d made Satoru Gojo.

Mentioning Gojo now because to Kento’s dismay, he’d weaseled his way into this trip. His entire reason for going, being the if he didn’t get to try the beignets from New Orleans, he would simply pass away.

Kento questioned everyday, how he’d managed to fall in love with Satoru’s best friend. It was the only hesitation he had when it came to dating you in the beginning because he knew he would be stuck with Gojo for life… And here he was in the cab with you guys on the way to your dad’s restaurant.

“ have I mentioned how much I love America. There’s a sweet shop on every corner we’ve passed. I’m gonna go into a diabetic shock.”, Satoru said from the left side of you.

Under his breath you heard Kento mutter, “Sounds good to me” and you elbowed him softly.

The two of them had been bickering since you’d met up at the airport in Japan. You weren’t gonna make it the whole trip without at least a few headaches.

“So it’s the first day of Mardi Gras and I know the restaurants gonna be super busy so what are you guys going to do to keep yourselves entertained while I’m working in the kitchen with my dad?” You asked them.

“Well I figured we would have lunch at the restaurant first and go from there. At some point, I have to go and take care of that curse that I promised Yaga I would look into.” Kento states.

Of course Satoru interrupts, “ I don’t know why you took that on. I told the higher-ups that this is my vacation and it’s going to be curse fucking free.”

“Yes well not all of us are the chosen one and can just tell our superiors no when they ask for something. Besides, it’s only a level two curse. It shouldn’t take me very long to handle.”

“ OK well Kento, just remembered to be extra careful. The curses of New Orleans are conniving. They’re not particularly hard to exercise, but they can get you in some sticky situations. Trust me, I know.” You informed him once more.

There weren’t many curses around here but the ones that were always tried to slip a trick on people before killing them.

“ I promise to be safe, my love” and he pressed a kiss against your temple.

“And Nanami, you know if you run into any trouble your Senpai will be there to help you. I’m just a call away.” And you would hear the cheekiness lingering in his voice.

“ for the love of God” Kento groaned.

Fortunately, for him, you were pulling up to the restaurant now. the restaurant happened to also be connected to a place where your mom and dad stayed the restaurant downstairs and their house being upstairs.

You got to your child home and you guys unloaded the car and were immediately tackled by your mom and dad.

After you guys got inside and settled, it was already time for lunch prep to get started.

“ since you guys will be the first ones here you get the best seat in the house, which is in the middle so you’re far enough from the stage to have conversation but close enough to really hear the band that’ll be playing.” You told them as you came downstairs.

“ I think I would prefer to sit right next to the band as to make sure no conversation is had actually” Nanami said on you guys reached the first floor.

“Awwwwww, Ken, don’t act like. You’re hurting my feelings” Satoru whine as he drooped his arm over Kento’s shoulder.

You grabbed Gojo by his ear and sat him down in a chair.

“Stop riling him up or I’m not making beignets for you. Do you understand??” You ask with your eyebrows raised expectantly.

“Yes ma’am” he pouts but stays quiet.

Everything is smooth for a while as you set up for lunch, start cooking, and eventually start letting guests inside.

The place was packed before an hour had even passed so Satoru and Kento were forced to give up there seats and skeedadle. Kento to handle the curse he agreed to exorcise and Satoru to try every sweet he could find in a 5 mile radius.

Business was booming from lunch onward. You didn’t have a break between prepping, cooking and serving orders in the gaps between servers.

Satoru was still missing in action and all you could hope is that he didn’t walk into a voodoo shop trying to get sweets and walk out hexed.

On the other hand, Kento hadn’t tried to contact you either, but you didn’t have much time to think about it or check in right before the dinner rush.

You tried calling him and ended up talking to voicemail, so you decided to text him. You just sent a quick message asking if he was OK and when he’d be back.

Around two hours later, Gojo came sauntering in looking like a kid who was let loose in a candy shop with a credit card. He had all types of to go bags and shopping bags hanging off of him.

He went up to drop everything off before he slid into the kitchen to see you. 

“ you haven’t heard from him since he left earlier”, he asked and you could hear the concern in his voice which only made you feel worse.

“ no and it started to make me nervous. I can’t just walk out and leave my dad to finish his dinner shift by himself.”

“Don’t worry, I’m sure he’s fine. I’ll use my six eyes to go see if I can find him. I’ll be back quick New Orleans minute” and the accent was so offensive you almost smacked the shit out of him.

“Just go.”

By the time Gojo got back, the dinner crowd had left, the restaurant was closed and you and your dad were in the back cleaning up.

He came in with no Nanami next to him, but both his hands hiding behind his back and a cheeky smile on his face.

“ where the hell is Kento! you’ve been gone for two hours and you mean to tell me you didn’t come back with him??” You started shouting at him.

You excused yourself from your parents ear shot while grabbing him by the ear again, and dragged him behind you.

“Ouch, ouch, ouch.” That really fucking hurts.

“ where the hell have you been? Where is my husband??!”

Satoru is rubbing his ear when he speaks, “ well I’ve got good news and bad news. Good news is I found Kinto, bad news is…” and he pulls his hand from behind his back. “ This is your husband.”

You immediately screamed because this asshole pulled a slimy, disgusting frog from behind his back!

“Satoru have you lost your mind again??? Have the sweets eaten a whole into your peanut sized brain!!! Get that thing out of here RIGHT NOW!!”

But before Gojo could speak…. The frog did.

“My love, i’m afraid this is the one time that Gojo is not joking around. It’s me.”

That voice was definitely Kento’s but there was no way. Absolutely now way.

“ I think she’s gonna pass out. Y/N are you gonna pass out?” Satoru said well balancing the frog in one hand and reaching out the other to catch your trembling form.

“Sweetheart maybe you should sit down. I don’t want you to hurt yourself.”

That was Kento alright. Always the worrying, doting husband.

“ it was the curse, wasn’t it? Kento I told you that the curse is here were different. How did you manage to let this happen? You’re a frog!” Your hands were rubbing circles at your temple and you were pacing back and forth.

“You were 100% right, but it was more than one curse and I was caught off guard.”

“ yeah he couldn’t exercise them in his frog form so I had to do it when I got there and let me tell you those things look even more insane the ones in Japan. I did manage to get some information out of them before I killed them though.”

“What kind of information?” You groaned. You had such a killer headache right now it felt like your head would pound for the rest of your life.

“ good news first or bad news first” he asked you with small smile playing at your lips.

The death glare you gave him would’ve cut through his infinity if he had it on.

“ OK so good news first, um, you can fix him!” He says.

“Oh thank god!” You say on an exhale.

“He hasn’t said the bad news yet, baby” Kento chirps up.

“Yeaaaa… bad news is the only way to break. The curse is with true loves kiss”

“No” the word flew out of your mouth so quickly. “No why in hell am I kissing a frog.”

“ my love…”

“Do not “my love” me Kento. There’s no way! You’re SLIMY AND GREEN!” And you’re in full blown hysterics now.

You hear a chuckle from Gojo but he quickly shuts his mouth.

“ darling, I know this is a bad time to bring this up but… I do recall a certain asking on more than ONE occasion, if her husband would love her if she were a worm, a fish, and a plethora of other little creature. And said husband said yes to all of those.”

The calmness in his voice at that moment had never made you more irritated.

“ those were hypotheticals! You can’t throw that back in my face now.” You whine again because you don’t know what else to do.

Gojo decided now to speak up again, “ I may have also forgotten to mention that if the curse isn’t broken by midnight, your darling husband will stay in this form until his dying day”

“Turn off the infinity Satoru! Turn it off now!”

“So you can MURDER ME!?!? I think not!”

“Just give me one swing at the pretty face. You’ll only have 3 eyes when I’m done with you cuz I’m taking out half your power with one punch!” You shout.

Satoru keeps his infinity up, places Kento on a table, and starts walking away from your murderous being.

“ well I’ll take that as my cut to leave. I’ll let you lovebird sort this out amongst yourselves. Umm quick heads up midnight strikes in about six minutes do what you want with that goodbye!” And he’s out the door.

“Baby.” Your husband says in that soft soothing tone of his. “ I love you and I will continue to love you even if you leave me in this state as a green slimy frog, but I would truly prefer if we just did a quick little kiss and got this over with.”

“I cannot believe this! I should leave you like this you know. I told you several times not to take on this assignment.” You mewl.

“I know. I deserve this, I truly do.”

“I’m about to miss a frog. Me, (your full name) am about to kiss a fucking frog!”

“It’ll be quick love, just a quick peck. Close your eyes and it’ll be over before you know it.”

“I think I’m gonna bath.”

“Please wait until after the kiss. I don’t want you to throw up on me, I’m already slimy.”

“Why would you say that now??” You ask him with your eyes stretched.

“Sorry, bad timing.”

“Ughhhhhh. Fuck, fine. Count me down.”

You start jumping in place preparing your self.

“3”…. You start leaning in, “2” inching closer and trying to to keep your gag reflex in order, “1” you slam your eyes shut, pucker your lips and connect them to the amphibians.

Before you know it, Kento is again standing in front of you, but there is a flash blinding you from seeing his face.

“Wow, that is true love. Y/N you just kissed a frog.” When the flash dies down you see Gojo with his phone held up to you two. He was recording the whole thing.

“Oh that does it. You’re dying here satoru! Don’t run. Why are you running you piece of shit, get back here!!” And you spend the rest of the night trying to rip your best friend head off his body.

By the time you get back home, you’d managed to destroy Gojo’s phone and any evidence any of it ever happened.

“Are you ok my sweetheart? You’ve had an extremely trying day.” Kento asks as you both get into bed.

“No. I want to go to sleep and forget the last 24 hours happened.

“I completely understand. Get some sleep sweet girl.” And he tried to lean in and press a kiss to your lips.

Your hand stop him dead in his tracks.

“Too soon Kento, too soon.” And you turn your body away from him and try to fall to sleep. You hear him chuckle behind you and snuggle up to your back.

Movie Night - Platonic! Slytherin gang

A/N: I WORKED FOR OVER TEN HOURS ON THIS AND IT DIDN'T SAVE! Gonna scream and cry but instead I'm rewriting while watching Baby which fyi is where editors get their clips of our much loved theodore nott, played by Lorenzo Zurzolo. Also, the chosen movie didn't come out before this fillm, I'm aware, but suck it up buttercups <3

Summary: Movie night with your best friends. What could go right?

You flopped down onto the bed between Pansy and Astoria, the latter of which immediately smacked you around the head with a frog plushie. "Finally, what took you so long? It's popcorn, not rocket science." She laughed, Pansy rolling her eyes.

"I managed to perfevt the popcorn first try. Alone. However, when I first tried to make it, someone wanted to help, and someone managed to burn the popcorn and nearly blow up the pan!" You said, glaring playfully at Enzo. He gave you an apologetic look, before sitting beside Rhia on a beanbag.

You handed the popcorn bowl to Pansy, who threw a piece at Theodore, who caught it in his mouth, resulting in a triumphant yell, until Astoria's frog plushie smacked him in the face. Mattheo snorted.

You giggled, turning to look at Blaise and Tom, who were fiddling around with a projector.

"You two need some help?" Rhia called, watching as Tom grew more and more frustrated.

"No, we're perfectly capable of doing it by ourselves. Piss off." Tom said, frowning. He then noticed who was talking. "Sorry Rhia, too harsh." He said, voice a shade softer. Rhia smiled and turned back to Enzo, who was showing her an action figure of one of the Irish Quidditch team.

You turned away, tuning back into your conversation with Pansy and Astoria before a loud crash interrupted you. You turned back to Blaise and Tom, the latter of which was muttering 'Reparo' at the projector.

"You sure you still don't need help?" Rhia is just sat there, a small smile on her face as she watches them. 

"Again, we're fi-" Blaise cuts Tom off, slapping a hand over his mouth. "He's lying Rhia, help us, please, we're incapable." Blaise says, a pleading look in his eyes.

You laugh as Rhia goes over and sets it up within a minute. Tom is looking very disgruntled, feeling slightly stupid but also slightly impressed by Rhia' capabilities with muggle technology. 

Everyone gets comfortable for the film, which is going to be 'Mean Girls'. Tom gives you a look, as you were the one to choose the film, but ultimately he decides to trust your judgement. The film begins, with everyone getting comfortable and snuggly, blankets everywhere.

*a little bit later*

"I don't think my father, the inventor of Toaster Strudel, would be too pleased to hear about this." Gretchen's voice came from the screen, and Theodore laughed. "Wow guys, it's Draco!" He was met with a few laughs, and an extremely sour expression form Draco. 

"No no, that's not Draco. She is." Mattheo pointed to Regina. "How do I even begin to explain Draco Malfoy?" He smirked, adopting an exaggerated dreamy expression. 

"Draco Malfoy is flawless." Theodore says, sitting up and opening his eyes wide in imitation of the girl from earlier on in the movie. 

"He has two fendi purses and a silver lexus." Blaise continued, giving side eyes to either side of him as if someone was listening to him sharing Draco's secrets.

"I've heard his hair's insured for 10,000 dollars." Lorenzo said, gasping and enunciating for dramatic effect. "It's 50,000 actually." Draco muttered.

"I hear he does car commercials... in Japan." Mattheo said furtively, still smirking. Draco rolled his eyes.

"One time he met Harry Potter in a robe shop, and he told her he was pretty." Theodore said, grinning. Draco glared. "Leave Potter out of this." He grumbled quietly. 

Then the unthinkable happened.

"One time he punched me in the face. It. Was. Awesome." Tom adopted an american accent, nailing the line perfectly.

Blaise gasped. Theodore did a double take. Lorenzo rubbed his eyes, as if to be sure of what he was seeing. Draco gaped. Mattheo fainted. Rhia, Pansy, Astoria and you bit your lips to keep from laughing. 

Mattheo magically regained consciousness after a second, sitting bolt upright. "Do mine ears decieve me?" He said fervently. 

"Indeed cousin they do not. I believe thou own kindred hath quoted a line from a movie." Drsco said, clapping Tom on the shoulder. 

Tom glared, shrugging it off. "It's thine, not thou. Buffoon." Tom said, rolling his eyes.

"Come on brother, where are the curse words in your sentence? It's not a crime to say them! LOOK! Fuck fuck fuckity fuck. Was I struck by lightning? No sir!" Mattheo exclaimed, laughing and falling off the bed. 

"Sorry, what is he on?" Blaise said, raising an eyebrow. You peered over the side of the bed to look at the floor, finding the culprit rather fast. 

You help up some elastic circles, and a half empty packet of fizzy cola bottles. "Judging by the debris site, far too many candy necklaces and half a packet of cola bottles." Theodore cackled, lifting his friend off of the floor with Enzo's help and dumping him back on the bed. 

Mattheo continued to fidget throughout the movie, clearly still coming down from the sugar high. 

...

"It's like I have ESPN or something. My breasts can always tell when it's going to rain. Well, they can tell when it's raining."  Karen's voice rang out from the speakers. Blaise cackled. 

"Miss girl, your boobs do not have Atmokinesis." He rolled his eyes, finding it far too funny for what the line was.

...

"I'm sorry that people are so jealous of me, but I can't help it that I'm popular." Gretchen's voice came from the film. "MATTHEO CORE!" Yelled Pansy, laughing. He threw a pillow at her, missing and wacking Astoria. There was a scream that shook the heavens. 

"YOU'RE A DEAD MAN RIDDLE!" Astoria yelled, snapping off her acrylics in less than thirty seconds and running at him, tackling him and repeatedly hitting him with her pillow. 

"Nobody-" Smack "Ruins-" Smack "My Maybelline Sky High Mascara-" Smack "WITHOUT FACING-" smack "THE CONSEQUENCES!" Smack. The girl was feral (understandable.)

Mattheo cowered in fear, not even bothering to fight back. 

"Apologize and we can get this over with Mattheo." You said, completely unbothered by the frequent occurence, just letting it happen.

"I'M SORRY ASTORIA! FORGIVE ME PLEASE! I BEG OF YOU!" Mattheo yelled, finally ceasing the pillow abuse. 

Astoria finally relented, and joined you back on the bed, gratefully accepting Rhia's mascara. 

...

"It's not my fault you're, like, in love with me or something!" 

"GIRL SAID WHAT?!" You yelled, jumping up excitedly. Theo rolled his eyes. 

"YN you've seen this movie eight times before. You know what she said." He said, turning back to the screen, where Regina was delivering her next line. "Just wait." You muttered.

"See? That's the thing with you plastics. You think everybody is in love with you when actually, everybody HATES you! Like, Aaron Samuels, for example, he broke up with Regina and guess what? He still doesn't want you! So why are you still messing with Regina, Cady? I'll tell you why, because you are a mean girl! You're a bitch! Here. You can have this. It won a prize." Theo audiblu gasped. 

"GIRL SAID WHAAAT?" He yelled. You grinned. "Told you."

...

"No! Do you know what everyone says about you behind your back? Hmm? They say that you're a homeschooled jungle freak, that's a less hot version of me! Yeah, so don't try to act so innocent! You can take that fake apology, and shove it right up your hairy c..."

Tom shook his head as Regina was hit by a bus. 

"Both of them went too far in that sitch, Bus was deserved." He said, groaning as he realised he'd spoken his thoughts aloud. However, there were no giggles or smirks from the other guys. Instead he was met with five solemn nods. 

"When Tom Riddle says it's too far, you know it's too far." Enzo said, nodding his head in agreement.

...

"Oh no, you're not going to end on that are you?" The film credits rolled, and you looked around at your friends, many of whom were passed out tired. You locked eyes with Draco, shaking your heads with a smile. 

Tom was sat in silent contemplation. "What's on your mind Riddle?" You said, smiling. 

"I think... maybe... not all American high school movies are bad." He said quietly. You gasped. 

"Small victories." You whispered to yourself happily, shortly after falling asleep on Astoria's shoulder. Tom followed shortly after, and Draco too, on his silk pillowcase to protect his luxury insured hair.

tabikaeru tutorial

Hi! I've just been informed that the Tabikaeru tutorial that was previously posted to tumblr has been deleted, so here I am making a new one.

For the uninitiated, Tabikaeru is a Japanese mobile game that was released in 2017. It's about a little frog living in the forest who likes to travel around Japan and have adventures!

You can gather clover to purchase snacks and tools for your little frog so you can pack his bag for him, and in return, he'll send you photos from his travels and bring you little souvenirs.

I translated all of the extant snacks, souvenirs, tools, etc. back when the game first came out and stayed up to date for a couple years, but there are a few items from the most recent update that I haven't translated. There seems to be a lot of renewed interest in the game recently, so maybe I'll get on that...

Anyway! Y'all need to know how to get started before you can collect anything! So here's an English guide to the game's tutorial so you can send your frog on lots of cute little adventures.

(Note: I won't be putting in screenshots for every piece of dialogue due to Tumblr's image limit, but I will have the translations.)

Step one is to go to the app store and type in "tabikaeru", which means Frog Traveler or Travel Frog!

The one you want looks like this:

When you first boot it up, you'll see this screen:

This is just a screen begging you to turn tracking on! (Please turn tracking on, it'll let us target your ads better to you, you can turn it off from your settings whenever, etc.)

Every app does this these days (because they legally have to) and you can make your own decision, but I always tell it no. lmao

So just tap "Ask App not to Track" on the next screen. For me, that part was still in English.

Now we can start the game!

To the left, the start screen. To the right, one asking you to agree to the terms and conditions. The top button here will let you read all those TOS (which... I'm assuming you can't read anyway if you're using this tutorial, so ignore that), the left button is accept and the right is deny.

So tap the start button on the start screen (that's the white one), then the bottom left option on the next screen.

The next screen says, "There's a frog here. Let's give them a name!"

This is the screen where you can name your frog. It says, "Please input a name. Maximum 5 characters." [empty box] "You can change this name later."

I wrote in the name かっちゃん, or Kacchan, which is short for カーミト, or Kermit! (My original frog is named グレン/Glen, which is short for Grenouille. Don't worry, he still lives undisturbed on my cell phone!) From here on out, though, I'll be referring to my ipad frog as Kacchan.

Note: You can use Japanese or romanized characters in this box, depending on which keyboards you have installed, but remember that you only have five characters! This'll go a lot further in Japanese.

The next screen says, "[The frog] has gone inside their house. Let's take a peek inside."

Tap the little button that looks like a house at the lower right of the screen. It says おうち, which just means "home". You tap this button whenever you want to go inside your frog's house.

You'll find your frog inside trying to decide what to pack. Several text boxes in a row will say:

"They are preparing to go on a journey. Let’s give Kacchan a little help with their travel preparations."

"There are three kinds of provisions you can set out to help them prepare: packed lunches, lucky charms, and tools.

These items are essential for travel. Let’s give them a packed lunch."

"Travel supplies can be bought in the shop using three-leaf clovers. So first of all, let’s go out to the little garden near the house to harvest three-leaf clovers."

It'll then indicate the icon at the bottom of the screen. It looks like a little mailbox and says にわさき, or garden. Tap that button, which you can use to go outside. You'll then see a little hand, which is asking you to drag the clover garden into view.

Once you do that, you'll get this screen:

This is your clover garden, and it says, "Slide your finger over the three-leaf clovers to harvest them."

A little hand will point at the box in the top left of the screen (the one with the ♣ symbol) and it says, "You can check how many three-leaf clovers you've harvested here."

Then it says, "Harvest all the clovers from the field."

After you've done so, it'll say, "You found a four-leaf clover! When you’re looking in the field, sometimes you’ll find a rare four-leaf clover amongst all the three-leaf ones. These can be used as lucky charms during travel."

"This is a good opportunity, so let's make this into a lucky charm."

(A translation/cultural note on "omamori" here. I've translated it as "lucky charm" for ease of use in the tutorial, but I usually just say "omamori" in the rest of my guide.)

"We've finished harvesting the three-leaf clovers, so let's try using them to buy things in the shop."

It will then indicate the middle icon at the bottom. It looks like it has bags on it, and it says おみせ, or shop. Tap that button whenever you want to go to the shop.

"First, let's buy the very reasonable Ebidzuru Scone."

(Note: ebidzuru is a type of grape, so this is basically a raisin scone.)

Tap on the top left item (a fully translated shop guide can be found in my Tabikaeru guide) and you'll get this pop-up:

"Do you want to buy an ebidzuru scone? (Number owned: 0)"

On the left is yes, the right is no. You'll be seeing confirmation screens that look like this a lot as you play the game. It's always just asking you if you're sure you want to buy what you tapped on.

Then it will say, "Now let's prepare their travel supplies."

It will take you back to the screen where your frog is pondering their bag, and a hand will point at a wooden sign at the bottom left that says したく, or preparations. Tap that button.

This will take you to a blue screen. At the top, it says かばん, or bag. This is where you can pack your frog's travel bag.

At the top left, it says おべんとう, or packed lunch. At the top right, it says おまもり, or lucky charm. At the bottom, it says どうぐ, or tools. Below those boxes, there is a white button that says かんりょう, or complete.

"Please select ebidzuru scone for the packed lunch and the four-leaf clover as the lucky charm. Then, press the complete button."

(Tap on each dotted square beneath each label to choose what to assign. Don't worry about the tools for now, you can buy those later.)

Put the scone and the clover in your frog's bag, then tap the "complete" button at the bottom.

It will then say, "You are done making travel preparations. Please wait for Kacchan to begin their journey. *Because this is the tutorial, when the app reboots, Kacchan will leave."

And then, "App will now reboot."

Press okay, and the app will basically just make your frog leave for their journey immediately instead of making you wait for them to leave. This is only for the tutorial; you'll have to wait for your frog to be good and ready to go before they take off most of the time.

You will then see this message, which will become very familiar as you play this game:

"Kacchan is setting off."

(i.e. your frog is currently traveling.)

It then says, "Kacchan has departed. If you close the app and wait for a little while, they'll return. If you've made preparations for them, they'll come back in a few hours."

Basically, just close your app and be patient. It usually takes at least an hour or two for your frog to return, but sometimes it could even be a day or two if they're going somewhere really far. I recommend making sure you have notifications on so you're not constantly checking to see if your little dude is back.

(The "if you've made preparations for them" part just means that if you leave the game for a long time and don't put any food/items out for your frog, they'll be gone when you come back. They'll come home as soon as you put some food out for them. I guess your frog is just being self-sufficient.)

The game then says, "*If you go to ヘルプ (help) and turn notifications on, you'll get a notification when Kacchan returns home."

I think you probably will just get a pop-up that will ask you if you want to turn on notifications (in English), but if not, tap the menu button (top right, メニュー), then the right-most button, which has a question mark and ヘルプ on it. You'll then see this screen:

Don't worry about most of these for now. Just tap the top one, オプション/options, which will bring up this screen:

This is your settings screen.

I think the sliders are pretty self-explanatory. These are the background music and sound effects sliders. Beneath that, you have the notifications. Select on if you want them, off if you don't. At the bottom, you have your support ID, which you can use in case you need to contact them or transfer your game to a new device.

Anyway, back to the tutorial.

The game then says, "You don’t have to make preparations for Kacchan; they can come and go freely. But if you help them out and make preparations, they will send you photos of their journey and occasionally bring home souvenirs that they picked up here and there and give them to you as presents."

Again, this is just saying that the frog will leave and come home regardless, but if you put things in their bag, they'll bring you presents, which is how the game is played. In other words, your frog isn't gonna starve to death, but you won't make any headway in the game if you don't pack their bag.

Then, "While your frog is gone, you can prepare for their next journey. To get ready, you can harvest three-leaf clovers and buy them things."

(So yes, come back regularly to harvest clover even if your frog isn't home.)

"The tutorial is now complete. Please have fun traveling with Kacchan!"

And they'll give you 500 three-leaf clovers and one four-leaf clover to get you started.

The official tutorial is done now, but I'll give you a little more information.

Sometimes you'll see a little letter hovering over your mailbox. This is where you get mail, which is typically items that you've received. If you tap the little white bubble in each message, you'll receive the item.

(The thing at the bottom is still just trying to get you to turn on tracking, ignore it.)

This is what the notification looks like when your frog is home! It says, "Kacchan has returned."

Now I'll show you what it looks like when your frog comes home.

"Kacchan has returned."

"They brought you souvenirs."

The top part, or いっぴん/ippin/masterpiece, is a special item that your frog can get from each location. They'll probably have to go to each location a few times to get its masterpiece/ippin.

The second part is the めいぶつ/meibutsu, or regional specialties. There are different foods your frog can bring back from different locations, and those foods can be used to feed friends when they come to call.

Your frog will also probably bring home some three-leaf clovers and a lottery ticket. For more info on the lottery, you can also see the guide.

"A photo has been delivered."

Your frog will often send you photos. This could be from the place they visited, it could be photos of the journey, or it could be friends they made along the way. The photos are always super fun and cute, though.

You'll probably get this pop-up when you first come home:

"You've acquired the 'Solo Traveler' title."

As the game progresses, you'll gain more titles as you complete more objectives. Tap on your frog when they're home to change their name or title. For more info on titles -- you guessed it, check out the guide.

You'll get pop-ups explaining the title, the tools, and the desk.

I just explained the title thing, then the tools can be bought in the shop just like the food (see guide), and the desk is really similar to the bag.

The desk is used just like the bag, except it's how you prepare for future journeys. After you fill your frog's bag, you can also put lucky charms, boxed lunches, and tools on the desk. When your frog comes home, they will automatically refill their bag with what's on the desk. So if you're not around, your frog will be fairly self-sufficient.

(Now if the desk is empty for too long, your frog will not bring you anything until you put stuff on it.)

Unlike the bag, do not hit the button at the bottom when you're done. That's the "clear" button, and it will clear all desk slots.

The desk can be accessed from the prep button just like the bag, just hit the arrow to switch between the two.

Pickles the Frog x Cyborg 009 Collaboration

Starting October 14nth 2023 a new series of collaborative merchandise featuring Pickles the Frog will be offered at the Mangattan museum. The current lineup consists of wooden charms, can badges, an acrylic stand with convertible Pickles keychain, and last but not least a plush doll of Pickles in a Cyborg 009 uniform.

Pickles the Frog is a character I was previously unfamiliar with, but he seems to be a plush toy and mascot for the Nakajima Corporation. They sell plush toys but also miscellaneous goods, so think something along the lines of Sanrio stores. Regardless, Pickles the Frog seems to be a rather loved figure in Japan so I'm sure fans of his are eager for the collab between the two.

That said, the Cyborg 009 merchandise release is just part of a larger Pickles the Frog event called "Bon Moment" that seems to be taking place across several locations. There is a stamp rally starting on the 3rd floor of the Mangattan museum with several locations across Ishinomaki where participants can collect stamps for the event. After collecting 5 stamps participants will receive a special sticker. Though I'm unsure what the incentive for collecting all eight stamps and the two *special* stickers is ^^;

Collaboration goods range from 400円 ($2.69 USD) to around 3,850円($26 USD). With the exception of the wooden keychains and badge can gashapon, all items will be limited to one per customer. Collaboration goods will be sold at the Mangattan gift shop and are limited for the event, so once they sell out they're gone!

Day 14 - Nagano & Matsumoto

We headed down to Matsumoto on the train, we got the local train which took near enough an hour as it was a lot cheaper than the express.

Once in the city we went straight to the castle, it was raining when we arrived but after walking around the castle and admiring the views the rain had stopped and the sun had come out. Matsumoto castle is the oldest castle in it’s original form, the majority of castles in Japan seem to have been burnt down multiple times and rebuilt, however this castle had been built with plaster on the outside to originally protect against cannon fire which also helped to keep it from being so flammable.

We then headed to Nawate street known for its shops and food places. It is also known as ‘Kaeru Street’ or ‘Frog street’ as frogs used to line the river banks alongside the street. ‘Kaeru’, which is frog in Japanese also means to return home to encourage guests to come back. Here we enjoyed sembei, soy sauce coated rice crackers, oishii!!

We then headed back to Nagano and back to the area around the hotel, we found a craft beer brewery called Mallika brewing. I tried ‘Queen Rouge’, a grape flavoured fruit sour which was lovely and also their original beer which was an apple session ipa both of which we Mallika’s own beers. Michael had a banana weizen from a brewery called Nohland Beer from the Kamo district beer Nagoya and then had ‘Palmeri’ a double IPA from Vertere brewed near Tokyo.

We had ramen each for dinner and then headed back to the hotel to pack and head to the onsen for one last time before we head back into Tokyo tomorrow.

It was sad. This whole situation...it was sad. But it was supposed to be happy. As you looked at the Witch Queen’s veiled face you think back to how you got here.

You hadn’t intended on becoming a witch apprentice...when you had entered that magic store, you were earnestly only looking for a charm.

A charm that would improve your life at home...

You loved your dad, you loved him a whole bunch. But being Japan’s number one hero took a lot of time, and he placed that priority over you often.

Too often.

So you had entered Majo Rika’s shop in hopes of magic being able to help, cause you didn’t know what else to do. I mean you were a kid.

You vividly remember the scary appearance of the Maho-Dou before you came along, and Majo Rika’s fitting scary image before she was...frogged.

You had been slowly going over every single magical item, trying to find the best one to use. You can’t exactly remember what she had said in that moment, but you remembered it was rude. You remember not being able to hold back a snarky “witch” under your breath. Though looking back your glad you did, cause it was the moment Majo Rika became a magical frog and needed you to enter witch training to turn her back.

That was the start of being happy again. Happy you hadn’t felt in a long time. Majo Rika and Lala filled the absence of a parental figure you had been missing out on.

Though you could tell your dad tried, he really did. Every second he wasn’t working was spent with you, or resting, but mostly with you. It was really nice when he could...but as you got older that time got shorter and shorter. And you could see it hurt him as much as it hurt you, but at this point you couldn’t bring yourself to care.

All the events he’s missed stand out even more in your head. A recital you had worked so hard on, missed. He promised he’d come but he didn’t. And as you played for the crowd, you hoped you hid the tears welling up in your eyes well enough. You hoped no one noticed the gaps in your performance, or the off notes. It wasn’t until you got to the Maho-Dou and both Majo Rika and Lala complimented your performance, watching through a crystal ball. You remember how they began to panic when you broke down that night, but now for two reasons and not just one. That night your dad had let you down once more, but that was also the night you had realized- Majo Rika and Lala have become more of a parent to you then your actual parent. It hurt to realize that.

Your apprenticeship really made you look back on your relationship with your dad and realize how flawed it really was. How do you not notice your child sneaking out at night to a random magic shop? Well its easy when your not home to notice. Though staying out of the eyes of patrolling heroes in a brightly colored witches uniform was hard.

It’s sad when you don’t need your fairy to help you trick your parents when sneaking out.

And speaking of your fairy, Soso, you were so happy when they had come to you. You had gained a family member! One you could take home, and make your home life less lonely. You guys had so much good times at home together, and you never had to hide them. You guys enjoyed having fashion shows together, it was always so funny to see your baby fairy in doll clothes trying to be modelesque.  It was nice.

Especially when your relationship with your dad had began to fall apart. You guys were fine. But as you got more into your apprenticeship, and your dad came home less frequently, you guys had begun to argue. It started off with small things, and maybe it was your fault but you had gotten so fed up. But they began to escalate with every broken promise. You would raise your voice, he’d want to defend himself and began to get angry and try to scold you for talking to him like that which only made you angrier. Your relationship of recent hadn’t been the greatest. But what could you do?

...

There were two parts of your apprenticeship that stood out to you the most in this moment. It strange how your tests bring up good memories with him, when your recent memories have been so bitter.

The first was your 6th level test. The test itself wasn’t all that significant, but what it did was. To combine an instrument that means something to you with your wand.

You were lucky that what you choose counted! It was a music box. Your favorite music box. You still remember the day you got it, even when it was so long ago. It was one of the few days your dad had off, and he took you out with him shopping. You were really young, but you remember having so much fun. You got to sit on his shoulders, which was incredible because he was so tall. He was in his skinny form too, so no one would interrupt you guys...

But the most memorable thing from that day was the music box. You had found it in a store, and had asked him about, confused. You had never seen one before after all.

He grabbed it and twisted the crank and you can still remember the magical feeling you felt when it started playing. The little woman began to turn on the box and the most beautiful song you had ever heard began to play and you were instantly enamored.

You think you remembered your dad laughing at you when he handed it to you, but honestly you can’t remember. You were so entranced by it you hardly noticed anything else! Needless to say, you had gone home with it, and it became your most precious item. You would sit and listen to it for hours. Your dad would play it for you when you went to bed, when you woke up, when you guys were just hanging out...

It was your guy’s special item. Your guy’s special song. No matter the situation, time, you guys made sure to listen to it together. Even recently, before it had merged with your wand, you guys had listened to it together on the rare time he was home. After you guys would fight. It would help calm you guys down. You couldn’t help but tear up at the new wand, completely full of seeds, and when it played your favorite melody for every spell you cast. It always reminded you of your dad and the good times you had, that seemed so few and far between now. But it also brought up the more recent times...the bad times.

The second test was your final test, the one that had happened just before this moment. Your test was to do something for someone using magic and to get them to thank you, and though it was risky, you knew exactly who you wanted to help. You followed him in secret all day, scanning for the best opportunity to help him. After a long time of waiting for your chance you had got it, though it was something small. He had sat down for a break and you magicked up a bottle of water. You made yourself invisible and handed it to him over his bulked up figure with a  “Here you go!” You made sure to put on some kind of voice, something he wouldn’t be able to recognize.

and quickly stepped back a bit when he grabbed it.

“Thank you!” He said turning around, and you took the moment to gaze at his confused face as he looked around, before he looked down to look at the water.

You were lucky you still had your broom out so you didnt have to make any noise when you left. You couldn’t bring yourself to stay longer then that.

With that you had finished your final test, and with that you had earned the right to become a fully fledged witch. But with becoming a witch came one consequence.

You must give up your life in the human world.

You must give up your life with your dad.

Perhaps the saddest part to you in this moment was how easy the answer came to you.

You would.

You would leave the human world behind...cause there wasn’t really anything waiting for you there.

Not anymore.

You could feel the heartbreak when your dad discovered you gone but...you just couldn’t bring yourself to stay with him when you had this opportunity in front of you.

So though you’d pick the witch world over your own, your found family over your blood...you hope you’d at least be able to watch over him from afar. Watch him find a groove back to life with you gone, without an answer to your disappearance. You weren’t sure if what you were feeling is regret. You don’t regret choosing to be a witch...

But maybe you regret leaving your dad so clueless of the situation. Leaving him in the dark. Leaving him thinking that things had been fine. Leaving the memories you guys had made together...but you won’t take it back. Maybe one day...

You’ll meet again.

昨年映画「1秒先の彼」で台北映画祭を訪れ、現在「カラオケ行こ！」が台湾公開中の山下敦弘監督の短編作品「ランブラーズ2」日本国外初、特別上映を行います。（山下監督ご本人もいます！）

「リアリズムの宿」(2014)の続編という位置付けのこの作品、おじさんになった登場人物たちの変わらぬ空気感や時間経過に伴う喪失感、そしてきらりと残る光を体感しにきてください。台湾でDVD化されている「リアリズムの宿」を鑑賞してから来ることを強くおすすめします！

「ランブラーズ2」あらすじ

監督の木下、脚本家の坪井、俳優の船木の三人は映画仲間だった加地のお通夜に出席するため、加地の地元にやって来る。友人の死に対してどう受け止めればいいのか分からない三人は、知らない街を彷徨い、誰もいない冬の海に辿り着く…。映画『リアリズムの宿』から17年後に制作され、オリジナルのメンバーが集まった、正式な続編。30分の短編映画だが、長編映画の冒頭部分として製作されています。

Minor/supporting characters for my original project, As Seen on TV!

From top left to bottom right:

James Barrington. Jr: Theodore Barrington's older brother who plays football, like their father James Barrington Sr. (who is currently a college football coach). He is handsome and is popular among girls.

Max Barrington: Theodore's younger brother who likes to play chess and can be a bit competitive about it.

Inari Fushimi: A classmate of Tae-Yeon Kwon and Soleil Walker who shows up later in the story. Her favorite food is donuts, and her mother owns a donut shop in Suburbia. Her name is a reference to the Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto. She is loosely based on Kiriko from Overwatch.

Claudio Pereira: A soccer-playing, capoeira-dancing, aspiring DJ who is fun-loving and likeable. Tae-Yeon has a huge crush on him. Also, his favorite animal is frogs... and if there's one thing bunnies and frogs have in common, it's that they both go "hippity-hop"! He is inspired by Lúcio from Overwatch.

Claire Baudelaire: Blair's older sister who is very fashionable and a total social butterfly. She is best friends with Lunetta Walker.

Nicole Nguyen: Emmett Nguyen's little sister who loves Gothic fashion and video gaming. She can be a little clingy with Emmett when he's not giving her any attention. She is apparently fascinated with artworks of "dark fairies" with swirly butterfly wings, tattered black outfits, and striped stockings, which she has decorating the walls of her gothic/punk bedroom (along with anime and video game posters, of course). She is based on Gothic Lolita fashion, with some hints of the 2000s character brand "Emily the Strange".

Kaoru Murasaki: Kaori Murasaki's younger brother. Somehow, when I finalized his design here, he kinda turned out looking like a cross between Izumi-san from Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie and Nasa Yuzaki from Tonikawa: Over the Moon For You...maybe he can be that type of character in the story.

Shiori Murasaki: Kaori's little sister who is in elementary school. Fun fact: Kaori, Kaoru, and Shiori are two years apart each, so when Kaori was 7, Kaoru was 5, and Shiori was 3, they were able to celebrate Shichi-Go-San altogether. For those who don't know, Shichi-Go-San, or 7-5-3 Day, is a Japanese holiday celebrating girls of 7, boys of 5, and all children of 3; I think it has something to do with those ages being milestones in childhood development in Japan. While I decided on her name beforehand, her appearance is loosely modeled on Shiori Sakurada from Castle Town Dandelion.
