Here's your daily reminder to click for Palestine!!!
U.S. residents, take 5 minutes and use this link to pressure your members of Congress to stop sending weapons to the Israeli military!!
(Letter variants you can copy/paste under the cut!!)
Original letter written by Jewish Voice for Peace:
I am writing as your constituent to ask that you do everything in your power to press the Biden administration to suspend all weapons shipments to the Israeli military, and oppose all future military funding to Israel. The Israeli government has vowed to push forward with a large-scale military operation in Rafah, even though President Biden has repeatedly said such an operation would be a "red line." On May 7, the Israeli military seized the Rafah border crossing, a crucial passage for humanitarian aid, and ordered 100,000 Palestinians in eastern Rafah to evacuate. The 1.3 million displaced Palestinians sheltering in Rafah will have nowhere to flee should a full invasion commence. Millions of Palestinian lives now hang in the balance. I urge you to do everything in your power to stop this unfolding catastrophe before it's too late. Thank you.
Slight variations I created (so that emails don't get marked as spam for being identical to each other)
Variation 1:
I'm writing to you as your constituent to ask you to do everything you can to pressure the Biden administration into suspending all weapons shipments to the Israeli military and opposing any and all future military funding to Israel! The Israeli government is pushing forward with a large-scale military operation in Rafah. President Biden has repeatedly said such an operation would be a "red line," yet his administration is still supporting this operation. On May 7th 2024, the Israeli military seized the Rafah border crossing, a crucial passage for humanitarian aid, and forced 100,000 Palestinians in eastern Rafah to abandon their homes. 1.3 million Palestinians have been displaced. Those sheltering in Rafah have nowhere to flee during a full invasion. Millions of Palestinian lives now hang in the balance. Their fate lies in the hands on Congress, in your hands. I urge you to do everything in your power to stop this unfolding catastrophe before it's too late. Thank you.
Variation 2:
I'm writing you today to ask that you do everything in your power to convince the Biden administration to stop funding Israel. We have to telk them to stop all shipments of weapons to the Israeli military and oppose all future military funding to Israel. The Israeli government has vowed to push forward with a large-scale military operation in Rafah... President Biden made it clear that such an operation would be a "red line," and yet he continues to fund them. On May 7th of this year, the Israeli military seized the Rafah border crossing, a crucial passage for humanitarian aid, and forced 100,000 Palestinians to flee their own home of Eastern Rafah. Should a full invasion commence, 1.3 million displaced Palestinians sheltering in Rafah will have nowhere safe to go. Millions of Palestinian lives now hang in the balance. I am begging you now, as your constituent, to do everything in your power to stop this unfolding catastrophe before it's too late... Thank you

Answer of Question 1:
In 2022, the modern telecommunication revolution started because of the advanced mobile technology (Srivastava, 2005). This handy portable device goes beyond the means of communication (call, text message) in daily life. People use mobile for banking, reading news/books, playing games, education, entertainment, e-tickets (traveling, cinema, sports stadium, hotel), voting, online shopping, healthcare services, taking pictures/videos, or writing documents. Despite the above beneficial usage of cell phones, people connect with millions of other people around the world just by one click on social media sites or apps like Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, Tumblr, etc.
Smartphone technology and internet connection provide freedom of speech to everybody, which also successfully leads to social injustice activism movements. People start listening and reacting to what they like to hear or what they don’t like to hear that is instantaneously available through any social media platform. (Khan, 2024). News feeds, group communications (networking sites/WhatsApp), thousands of profiles (percentage of account creating growing annually), and circulations of messages or videos in a few seconds are some of the advanced characteristics of cell phones that old-fashioned means of communication like television, radio, and newspaper failed to introduce for audience attraction (Maryville University,2019).
Additionally, smartphones dramatically contribute to raising voices for social injustice (human rights) because they offer different languages for typing, recording options are best for uneducated audiences, and the sign-up procedure of social media sites or apps is so simple. E.g: largest political #ThisWasNotOnTV.movement in Pakistan operate magnificently because of the above-mentioned features of social media (Jahangir, 2023).
Globally, numerous examples have been documenting that cell phones played an important role in social activism activities e.g. in 2001, Philippines president Joseph Estrada resigned as a result of an SMS campaign run by the citizens because he utilizing their tax-payer income into gambling (Srivastava, 2005) and (Global Nonviolent Action Database, 2001), Indian Trade Association in 2003 used SMS service to protest against VAT imposed rule (Srivastava, 2005), Shanghai Police used mobile service as a tool to warn citizen not to be a part of Anti-Japan protest in 2005 (The Digital and Development Network, 2007). The violence recorded in the case of Eric Garner through cell phones caused issues for New York Police Department Officers in 2014 (Sanburn,2014).
It concluded that human voice power is overruled at social media sites or apps for leading social injustice movements effectively. The culprit person’s capital, society, and job power cannot save him from losing renown status.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of “Freedom Summer,” the 1964 voter registration movement in Mississippi. More than 700 volunteers mobilized to fight against voter intimidation and discrimination at the polls.
Freedom Summer volunteers were met with violent resistance from the Ku Klux Klan and members of state and local law enforcement. News coverage of volunteers being beaten, arrested, and even killed drew international attention to the civil rights movement.
The Freedom Summer project ultimately registered nearly 1,200 Black Americans to vote in Mississippi, and pushed Congress to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
This year, let's continue their fight to uplift Black voices and Black votes. Join us in registering voters during our Juneteenth Weekend of Action at weall.vote/juneteenth.

anyway i'm always fascinated by the people who think that trans men transition purely to escape misogyny and gain social capital. idk how it is for other people, but since i transitioned i have not only experienced more misogyny than i ever did before but also lost access to the public spaces and support systems that might have helped me deal with it
#the people on here who claim that trans men have male privilege are also fascinating to me.#i experience the exact same marginalisation i experienced when presenting female#except it now comes with extra steps#i am not more likely to be hired or promoted; my opinion is not more likely to be respected#my rights and freedoms are even more restricted than they were before and i still get harassed on a regular basis#my body is still a topic of political debate and my voice is still silenced#i still feel obliged to control my appearance and clothing and body language in order to be treated with respect#and i can't even talk about it because i'm not a woman and therefore have no place in The Conversation#i don't regret transitioning but if you think that i'm getting any kind of privilege out of it you're mad

GET IN KIDS, WE'RE WRITING YOUR REPS
Pretty much all of us aren't going to be able to immigrate. Canada's not doing great right now anyway (sorry guys). Legally your best bet is to get your state government to protect you and yours. Why? Because the MAGA Republicans are apeshit about states' rights, so might as well use that against them. If you live in a Blue state, now is a good time to write to your state-level reps about safe haven laws for LGBTQIA people and immigrants and safeguarding steps for reproductive health access.
The past few days, a handful of governors like JB Pritzker of Illinois and Maura Healey of Massachusetts have made bold statements about protecting their constituents. California has called a special assembly to try and hammer these safeguards into law.
I'd recommend writing to your reps and the heads of your state's Democratic party in the legislature about following their example. I know I'll be writing to CT Majority Leader Bob Duff, as he and his staff have been very sympathetic about trans rights in the past. The trans community's eye in the sky, Erin Reed, wrote an article about the CA special session and what's legally possible for a legislature to do to covers its figurative ass. Look up your reps! You've got federal, state, and local ones! Are your reps pieces of shit? Write to other reps. I wrote to Bob Duff before I was even a resident of his state. He STILL isn't my rep, but he's the Majority Leader and that's still plenty of influence in a Blue State.
#transgender#trans rights#social justice#us politics#reproductive rights#reproductive freedom#Remember that you have a lot more power at the local level#And your voice is all that more amplified#And your reps are all the more respectful/terrified of you the more likely it is that you'll show up in person#In my experience with local government.#The system may be flawed but you can make it work for you

Missouri! It's the last day to register to vote! do it today (RIGHT NOW!!) so you can make a difference on Nov. 5th!
OCTOBER 9TH (TODAY!!!) IS THE LAST DAY THAT YOU CAN REGISTER TO VOTE IN MISSOURI FOR THE NOVEMBER 2024 ELECTION
Click here ^ to register! It's easy!
Once you're registered you can check your polling location (the place you go to vote), learn about absentee voting, the election machines, acceptable forms of ID for voting, and when polls are open on this page. After you register, I highly recommend checking in with the local county clerk's office to ensure your registration was filed properly (this can take up to 10 days, iirc) once a week or so until they confirm it.
Once you're registered you can check your polling location (the place you go to vote), learn about absentee voting, the election machines, acceptable forms of ID for voting, and when polls are open.
PLEASE CHECK BELOW ABOUT WHAT WILL BE ON THE MISSOURI BALLOT!
Ballot Measures and Issues are as follows: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!
-Amendment 2 (Amend Missouri Constitution to: allow Missouri Gaming Commission to regulate sports wagering online) (the "sports betting" amendment)
Do you want to amend the Missouri Constitution to: State governmental entities estimate onetime costs of $660,000, ongoing annual costs of at least $5.2 million, and initial license fee revenue of $11.75 million. Because the proposal allows for deductions against sports gaming revenues, they estimate unknown tax revenue ranging from $0 to $28.9 million annually. Local governments estimate unknown revenue.
Fair Ballot Language:
A “yes” vote will amend the Missouri Constitution to permit licensed sports wagering regulated by the Missouri Gaming Commission and restrict sports betting to individuals physically located in the state and over the age of 21. The amendment includes a 10% wagering tax on revenues received to be appropriated for educational institutions in Missouri. A “no” vote will not amend the Missouri Constitution regarding licensed regulated sports wagering. If passed, this measure will have no impact on taxes.
READ MOR ON AMENDMENT 2 HERE
-Amendment 3 (the "abortion amendment", removes Missouri's ban on abortion as well "require the government not to discriminate, in government programs, funding and other activities, against persons providing or obtaining reproductive health care"-full text that will be on the ballot can be found on this page under Amendment 3.
Do you want to amend the Missouri Constitution to: State governmental entities estimate no costs or savings, but unknown impact. Local governmental entities estimate costs of at least $51,000 annually in reduced tax revenues. Opponents estimate a potentially significant loss to state revenue.
Fair Ballot Language:
A “yes” vote establishes a constitutional right to make decisions about reproductive health care, including abortion and contraceptives, with any governmental interference of that right presumed invalid; removes Missouri's ban on abortion; allows regulation of reproductive health care to improve or maintain the health of the patient; requires the government not to discriminate, in government programs, funding, and other activities, against persons providing or obtaining reproductive health care; and allows abortion to be restricted or banned after Fetal Viability except to protect the life or health of the woman. A “no” vote will continue the statutory prohibition of abortion in Missouri. If passed, this measure may reduce local taxes while the impact to state taxes is unknown. --DO NOT LET THIS SCARE YOU! A YES ON 3 GIVES REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM BACK TO THE MISSOURI PEOPLE! PLEASE PROTECT WOMAN'S RIGHT TO CHOOSE! PLEASE PROTECT THEIR HEALTH AND SAFETY!
READ MORE ON AMENDMENT 3 HERE
-Amendment 5 (allows the addition of exactly one more gambling boat license on a specific portion of the Osage River)

All state revenue derived from the issuance of the gambling boat license shall be appropriated to early-childhood literacy programs in public institutions of elementary education. A “no” vote will not amend the Missouri Constitution regarding gambling boat licensure. If passed, this measure will have no impact on taxes. -- THOUGH I WONDER IF THERE IS ANYTHING IN WRITING THAT GUARANTEES THAT MONEY WILL GO TO THE SCHOOLS?
READ MORE ON AMENDMENT 5 HERE
-Amendment 6 ("Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to provide that the administration of justice shall include the levying of costs and fees to support salaries and benefits for certain current and former law enforcement personnel? State and local governmental entities estimate an unknown fiscal impact."

If passed, this measure will have no impact on taxes.
READ MORE ON AMENDMENT 6 HERE
-Amendment 7 (the "ranked choice voting" amendment; "make the Constitution consistent with state law by allowing only citizens of the US to vote, prohibit ranking of candidates by limiting voters to a single vote per candidate or issue, and require the plurality winner of a political party primary to be the single candidate at the general election")
Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to: State and local governmental entities estimate no costs or savings.
Fair Ballot Language:
A “yes” vote will amend the Missouri Constitution to specify that only United States citizens are entitled to vote, voters shall only have a single vote for each candidate or issue, restrict any type of ranking of candidates for a particular office and require the person receiving the greatest number of votes at the primary election as a party candidate for an office shall be the only candidate for that party at the general election, and require the person receiving the greatest number of votes for each office at the general election shall be declared the winner. This provision does not apply to any nonpartisan municipal election held in a city that had an ordinance in effect as of November 5, 2024, that requires a preliminary election at which more than one candidate advances to a subsequent election. A “no” vote will not amend the Missouri Constitution to make any changes to how voters vote in primary and general elections. If passed, this measure will have no impact on taxes.
READ MORE ON AMENDMENT 7 HERE. THERE IS SOMETHING VERY STRANGE ABOUT THE WORDING!
-Proposition A (minimum wage increase to $15/hr, by incremental yearly increases until 2026 where it will reach $15/hr) (edited)
Do you want to amend Missouri law to: State governmental entities estimate one-time costs ranging from $0 to $53,000, and ongoing costs ranging from $0 to at least $256,000 per year by 2027. Annually the minimum wage will be adjusted based on the Consumer Price Index. The law will require employers with fifteen or more employees to provide one hour of paid sick leave for every thirty hours worked. The amendment will exempt governmental entities, political subdivisions, school districts and education institutions from the minimum wage increase.
