Paul Frederic Simon (born October 13, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter known for his solo work and his collaborations with Art Garfunkel. He and his school friend Garfunkel, whom he met in 1953, came to prominence in the 1960s as Simon & Garfunkel. Their blend of folk and rock, including hits such as "The Sound of Silence", "Mrs. Robinson", "America" and "The Boxer", served as a soundtrack to the counterculture movement. Their final album, Bridge Over Troubled Water (1970), is among the bestselling of all time.
As a solo artist, Simon has explored genres including gospel, reggae and soul. His albums Paul Simon (1972), There Goes Rhymin' Simon (1973), and Still Crazy After All These Years (1975) kept him in the public eye and drew acclaim, producing the hits "Mother and Child Reunion", "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard", and "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover". Simon reunited with Garfunkel for several tours and the 1981 Concert in Central Park.
In 1986, Simon released his most successful and acclaimed album, Graceland, incorporating South African influences. "You Can Call Me Al" became one of Simon's most successful singles. Graceland was followed by The Rhythm of the Saints (1990), and a second Concert in the Park in 1991, without Garfunkel, which was attended by half a million people. In 1998, Simon wrote a Broadway musical, The Capeman, which was poorly received. In the 21st century, Simon continued to record and tour. His later albums, such as You're the One (2000), So Beautiful or So What (2011) and Stranger to Stranger (2016), introduced him to new generations. Simon retired from touring in 2018, but continued to record music. An album, Seven Psalms, was released in May 2023.
Simon is among the world's best-selling music artists. He has twice been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and has been the recipient of sixteen Grammy Awards, including three for Album of the Year. Two of his works, Sounds of Silence and Graceland, were inducted into the National Recording Registry for their cultural significance, and in 2007, the Library of Congress voted him the inaugural winner of the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. He is a co-founder of the Children's Health Fund, a nonprofit organization that provides medical care to children.
In 2012, in an interview reprinted in American Songwriter, Simon discussed the craft of songwriting with music journalist Tom Moon and talked about the basic themes in his songwriting: love, family and social commentary, as well as messages of religion, spirituality and God. Simon explained how he wrote his songs. "The music always precedes the words. The words often come from the sound of the music and eventually evolve into coherent thoughts. Or incoherent thoughts. Rhythm plays a crucial part in the lyric-making as well. It's like a puzzle to find the right words to express what the music is saying."
When Simon moved to England in 1964, he met Kathleen Mary "Kathy" Chitty at the first English folk club he played, the Railway Inn Folk Club in Brentwood, Essex, where Chitty worked part-time selling tickets. She was 16 and he was 22 when they began a relationship. Later that year they visited the U.S. together, mainly touring by bus. Kathy returned to England and Simon followed some weeks later. When he returned to the U.S. with the growing success of "The Sounds of Silence", Kathy, who was quite shy, wanted no part in success and fame and they ended their relationship. She is mentioned by name in at least two of Simon's songs: "Kathy's Song" and "America". She is also referred to in "Homeward Bound" and "The Late Great Johnny Ace". There is a photo of Simon and Kathy together on the cover of Simon's 1965 album The Paul Simon Songbook.
Simon has been married three times, first to Peggy Harper in 1969. They had a son, Harper Simon, in 1972, and divorced in 1975, inspiring the song "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover". Simon wrote about this relationship in the song "Train in the Distance" from his 1983 album Hearts and Bones. In the late 1970s, Simon lived in New York City next door to Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels, who has been described as Simon's "best friend" during the period.
He and Shelley Duvall lived together as a couple for two years until she introduced him to her friend Carrie Fisher. Simon and Fisher became a couple, and his second marriage, from 1983 to 1984, was to Fisher. He proposed to her after a New York Yankees game. The song "Hearts and Bones" was written about their time together, and the song "Graceland" is believed to be about seeking solace from the ending of the relationship by taking a road trip. A year after they divorced, Simon and Fisher resumed their relationship, which lasted for several years.
Simon married singer Edie Brickell on May 30, 1992. Brickell and Simon have three children, Adrian, Lulu, and Gabriel. On April 26, 2014, Simon and Brickell were involved in a domestic dispute. Each was issued a summons to appear in court on disorderly conduct charges.
All four of his children are now adults and are musicians.
Simon and his younger brother, Eddie Simon, founded the Guitar Study Center sometime before 1973. The Guitar Study Center became part of The New School in New York City, sometime before 2002.
Simon is an avid fan of the New York Rangers ice hockey team, the New York Knicks basketball team and the New York Yankees baseball team.

Lost Waltz by Chopin Discovered After Nearly 200 Years
A newly uncovered waltz, believed to be composed by the renowned Polish musician Frederic Chopin, has been found nearly 200 years after its creation. The manuscript, dated between 1830 and 1835, was discovered in the vault of the Morgan Library and Museum in New York City.
Tumblr media
Curator Robinson McClellan stumbled upon the rare piece while cataloging new collections. He later collaborated with a prominent Chopin expert to verify its authenticity. Although the manuscript is not signed, it features Chopin’s distinctive bass clef handwriting.
While the waltz contains some minor rhythmic and notational errors, McClellan expresses confidence that it originates from Chopin. "What we're most certain about is that it is written in Chopin's hand, on paper he used himself," he stated in an interview with BBC's Newshour. He added, "I'm about 98% sure, and many who have heard it instinctively feel it sounds like Chopin."
The piece features a somewhat surprising stormy opening, but McClellan believes the melody strongly reflects Chopin's style. Acclaimed pianist Lang Lang has recorded the waltz for the New York Times, which first reported the discovery.
Chopin, who primarily composed for piano, passed away at the age of 39 in France in 1849. His life was marked by struggles with hallucinations and likely epilepsy, as suggested by Spanish researchers.

Hello you vicarious vampires!
I’ve progressed on my animation piece pretty well recently, but realised I hadn’t posted any research and or influences I’ve found along the way.
I really like the art style of Ayami Kojima, a Japanese artist most notably known for their work on the Castlevania series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The contrast between the delicate facial features and horrific imagery is alluring in a way that completely fits the Castlevania series. The eyes being a big focal point in my work was really striking in their work also. The way the lashes are drawn bold and long really adds emphasis and draws your attention to them, I find. I also looked at the book about the Netflix Castlevania series and the art behind that by Powerhouse Animation and Frederator Studios.

I particularly enjoyed looking at the storyboards of the process and seeing how they’re presented and used such as colouring characters differently to differentiate them. Lenore’s character page interested me not just because of their different concept designs but how they did her eyes. “These droopy doe eyes with enormous irises” there’s so much character in just the way they illustrated them.
I also thought Peter Chung’s Æon Flux was really cool especially the opening scene with the fly getting trapped in her eye. I just really like the creepiness of the movement of the eye and the length of the lashes took a life of their own.

On top of that Mah Waboku’s work on music videos for Eve or Porter Robinson is also really interesting. I really like their sketchy style such as in the music video for Eve’s Leo or Eve’s music video for Dark Night, the second ending for the 2019 series of Dororo.

Although I didn’t decide to do stop motion in my project Yvonne showed what I could do with sand with Kirsten Lepore’s “Bottle.”

Happy Anniversary Karl Marx | feat. Calvin Robinson youtube comments
Communism benefits the lazy  while punishing the working class. I don't care if my boss makes money. I make mine. I DO care that the guy refusing to work makes MY money.
You should also bring up the point how Marx absolutely hated how the working class in the UK were content with working hard and being paid well and how he despised the English work ethic... while mooching off of England because he was run out of Germany Sheesh, I thought that Thomas Sowell's treatise on Marx was uncomplimentary, but now I see that Sowell was only showing Marx's 'best' face as a greater courtesy than he deserved. “Life, liberty, and property do not exist because men have made laws. On the contrary, it was the fact that life, liberty, and property existed beforehand that caused men to make laws in the first place.” ― Frederic Bastiat, The Law Lol ya he was spoiled rotten
that is exactly the type of individuals who flock to his ideology.. spoiled, privileged, incompetent, resentful, envious, lazy, and feeling entitled to what others have earned.
I would love to see the Brits start a movement similar to those on the left, which demands that Marx's final resting place be moved to the nation of his birth. Plus, I'd demand that any statuary or mention of him be removed from the UK. People always forget that Marx wrote an essay called On the Jewish question in which he talk about the destruction of capitalism and money means the destruction of judaism. Hitler didn't invent that stuff he took it from Marxist litterature. The essay was a conversation between him and another dude but it doesn't change the fact that Marx hated Judaism. @bottlepiecemuses

Of all the head canons I've come up with for my fics I think I finally outdid myself. I came up with a list of everyone's signature scents.
Guillermo: Spice Blend, Dior. In the past he didn't have the money to indulge in things like this, but now that he does, Guillermo goes straight to the private collection. Warm, fresh, spicy, soft. Spice Blend is masculine and confident, but it also smells like a great hug.
Nandor: Kredo, Nishane. Much like Nandor, the cardamom and oud tell a loud and colorful story. But pay closer attention to the notes underneath: playful pink pepper, soft suede and delicate floral osmanthus. Only then to you really get to really know him.
Nadja: Shalimar, Guerlain. For many, it takes time to appreciate Shalimar. Initially off-putting to those who might not be familiar with her— animalic, tough, leathery— the beauty just beneath the surface is astounding and memorable. It is complex but worth getting to know. Like Nadja.
Laszlo: Chergui, Serge Lutens. Tobacco, honey, amber and hay. Laszlo was never much of an equestrian but the scent reminds him of the times he spent hiding in horse stables near Grasmere when he was supposed to be courting that duchess his father kept pushing on him. Having no idea he'd soon meet Nadja, he ran away to the stables and drowned his sorrows in honey wine and stablehands.
The Guide: Feminite du Bois, Shiseido. Woody, spicy, feminine, complex. A scent for a woman who knows herself. The Guide has several bottles of the original from the 1990s that are being preserved in a special vault. The newest reformulation under Serge Lutens is a travesty and she will tell you all about it. At length.
Abraham van Helsing: Musc Ravageur, Frederic Malle. Warm, spicy and exuding an intoxicating musk, this aptly-named fragrance will lure your forbidden lover to you no matter how sour the smells of the docks at night.
Colin Robinson (adult): Mister Hijinks. It's a cologne/aftershave mix and he found it in the bathroom at work. Described by many as a disgusting putrified smell, like a snake in heat, Colin thinks it's nice.
Quinn: Marescialla, Santa Maria Novella. Woody and earthy, this smells like a bygone era. Countess D’Aumont, the wife of a French marshall, used a powdered version to perfume her gloves. Her interest in alchemy aroused suspicion of witchcraft and she was burnt at the stake. Quinn was a young alchemist at the time and she wears it as a homage... and a fond remembrance.
Tessa: Velvet Orchid, Tom Ford. Rum, orchid, honey, vanilla and myrrh. What's not to love? Just because she has vampire semen keeping her young doesn't mean she wants to fall behind on the latest trends. She didn't become a witch to linger in the past. Tessa keeps one foot in the supernatural world and the other in Sephora.
Derek: 1 Million, Paco Rabanne. Derek bought it without even smelling it because the bottle looks like a gold bar and that's fancy. Once he got back to his place and tried it out... he liked it! There's a lot of cinnamon, some citrus and woods... he's not sure why but he feels confident wearing it and that's what matters.
Thomas: Paris – Édimbourg, Chanel. Juniper, cypress, cedar, vetiver, lavender. Thomas found it in a male victim's suitcase two years ago. His master didn't want it— Nigel called it "department store rubbish"— but to Thomas it smells like wide open spaces and freedom. The bottle ran out just before the familiar fights and he bought a new one with the money Guillermo gave him.
Dr. Sharon: Gris Dior, Dior. Designed as an embodiment of the color gray, it's actually quite nice.
