As far as I'm concerned, this all but confirms for me that Joel and John are cousins. Cousins that made very different choices in life, but who both wound up in space regardless, much like Zachary and Jeremiah Smith.

Greetings MTR Tumblr!! I don't come here often, but I thought maybe I could spread awareness that I have been working on a continuation novel called "Time Will Tell" and it is something I've drowned my soul into creating! It's going to be an ongoing series, so if you're interested then please check it out! HAVE AN EXCELLENT DAY! <3

The Robinsons: Lewis, Wilbur, Franny, Bud, Tallulah, Billie, Fritz, Joe, Laszlo, and Petunia Robinson, Art and Gaston Framagucci, Lucille Krunklehorn, C4rl, and Spike & Dimitri
Rusties: Rodney Copperbottom, Lugnut/Lug, Fender Pinwheeler, Piper Pinwheeler, Diesel Springer, Crank Casey (& Wonderbot, Aunt Fanny, Cappy)
Robinsons:
perhaps Thee found family of all time. little orphan boy travels forward in time to meet a big messy family and realizes that they were already destined to be in his future… that’s the shit.
Rusties:
Within the societal structure of Robot City, there exists a social class referred to as Outmodes. Outmodes are robots whose parts are no longer being manufactured and, due to their economic status, cannot afford to purchase the newer, upgraded ones on the market. The fate of all outmodes is to be sweeped up, smelted down, and repurposed, when their old, broken bodies eventually fall apart. The Rusties are a ragtag group of outmodes living out of a boarding house. With the assistance of Rodney’s inventive prowess, they begin repairing other outmodes themselves. The film culminates in them fighting/defeating the evil robots responsible for the despicable treatment of outmodes.

So, an aspect of the Robinsons family I feel like a lot of people overlook is how influential they probably are. Especially Cornelius.
Like, of course, everyone remembers that he's the Father of the Future and all that, but do people realize that the Robinsons are probably one of the most influential, if not the most influential (and rich, let's be honest) family in the world? Cornelius has got to have so many contacts and connections in the entire world, like c'mon.
The reason why I'm mentioning all that is Wilbur. Analyzing his character made me realize that, at least before the movie, he probably was a typical rich kid. Not in the sense of his parents spoiling him, oh no, the scene with "I'm not allowed to look at this thing, let alone drive it! Mom and dad are gonna kill me! And I can tell you this! It will not be done with mercy." makes it pretty clear that there is definitely parental discipline with this kid.
But with others?
Playing the (fairly underrated) MTR videogame gave me a little bit of insight into Wilbur's character before the movie. First of all, he's a little shit, we know that, we love him for it. Second of all, he very well realizes his status as a Robinson. I noticed this little detail, where he makes a point to introduce himself as Wilbur Robinson anytime it might benefit him. And I'm not saying that introducing yourself with your full name isn't normal, but Wilbur seems to do it pointedly any chance he gets.
For example, Julia (Warehouse lady from whom you get useful equipment to progress in the game). I don't really think introducing himself was really neccessary in that situation, supported by Julia's interruption of him, "Kid, I don't have time right now." Except, well, if the lady knew he was a Robinson, it would be more likely she would be willing to lend/give him whatever he needs. (I don't really know if that would work in that specific future, considering that because Cornelius works for Stanley, he tends to get overshadowed by the Emperor. Wilbur doesn't seem to realize that, though.)
And it would make sense! He might not get special treatment from his parents just because they're rich, but he probably might from other people outside his family. Just imagine it, this kid gets into trouble, you scold him and have to sort the situation, but wait what? What did he say? His name is Wilbur Robinson? Oh no, what if his father finds out and makes you lose your job, or something like that?
I'm not saying Cornelius would actually allow Wilbur some sort of imunity or special treatment just because he's his son. If Wilbur caused trouble, he should face the consequences just like any other kid. But other people might not see it that way and at least some of them would definitely be intimidated by Cornelius' influence.
And Wilbur definitely realizes that and I am 100% sure he takes advantage of it. Because after all, even if he's good-natured and well-intended at heart, he's still a mischevious rascal.

It doesn't matter if this world that opened in front of me is just a dream. Even if I continue to wander, it will echo strongly and deep within my heart, forever and ever...
