the point with liszt and chopin is not who was a better pianist the point is that liszt managed to make the piano sound like an orchestra and chopin managed to make the piano sound like the most piano thing you've ever heard. hegel would perhaps argue that the point is that liszt was the catalyst for the piano turning over into its antithesis and chopin for its synthesis. the point with chopin is that he aufhebung'd the shit out of all the piano that had ever happened. thanks for coming to my ted talk
