Hi :>
I'm a little demonic gremlin that crawled out of my little hidey-hole for a moment.
Random question: what are your favorite fandoms? And also— how are you? I hope you're doing good 💚
Back to my little cave now :D
Omg hi!!! Thank you for asking!! I’m doing pretty great- I hope you’re well too!
Favorite fandoms is SOOOOOO hard to narrow down because A) I love so many, and B) I often times forget lots of them, even if I love them a whole bunch (cause you know- hyper fixation).
But ask and ye shall receive: here I go trying to name everything I like:
-Right now I have just started OUAT which has been really fun to watch with some friends. So- that.
-I love Dimension 20, but I only really know Fantasy High and Unsleeping City (cause those are all that are free and available on YouTube).
-The Magnus Archives (and Stellar Firma for that matter) are some of the only podcasts I’ve listened too and I’m thoroughly hooked! I just started my second listen thru of Season 2 of MAG and I am SO excited for TMP!!
-I am a big book person: my fav rn is Dracula but I constantly switch it up. I also love Frankenstein, Sherlock Holmes (need to re-read this one), A Tale of Two Cities, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Little Women, Macbeth, Hamlet, Jane Eyre, and a few other classics. I also love a bit of YA: Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, The Lunar Chronicles, ASOUE (if that is considered YA?), and recently I read Sorcery of Thorns!
-Another hobby of mine is watching crime shows!! I’m all caught up on NCIS, Blue Bloods (SO sad this is ending), Chuck, Monk, Psych, and a few others here and there. I also love Superman and Lois on CW (SO sad this is ending too.) I have a few other shows that I’m not CRAZY well versed in but I love the characters and talking about them! That’ll be Merlin, Supergirl, The Flash- I didn’t finish the last two in that list and Merlin,,,, ah Merlin.
-Video game wise I am so behind in things but I do love them! I love the new Spiderman games though I haven’t played the second one so no spoilers!!! I am almost finished with Hogwarts Legacy and I love it so far!! I also love Jedi: Fallen Order and I have finished it but I have yet to play the second one so no spoilers there either!!!
-I’m also big on musicals! Not all of them, of course, but ask and I’ll let you know!
Well, that was FAR more info than I’m sure you wanted to know but you DID ask. I sincerely hope you’re well, and I hope we can be super cool internet buddies!

I dunno about you, but I feel like part of it was also that the teachers didn't always do so well with, uh, advertising the readings, for lack of a better term.
One prof tried to say that Jane Eyre had "tons of Extra-Supernatural Elements". Looking back, it was a good book, but I felt very underwhelmed because of that description. Like, there's no ghosts or monsters here. There's just Bertha. And don't misunderstand, I am very intrigued by her deal. But still. She's just some person.
Maybe that's also what I get for watching an Inoue show at the same time.
The profs kept doing this with other books too, but it was only ever true for Frankenstein and Beowulf. Maybe also Chronicle of a Death Foretold, but I guess it got buried under the translation and nobody ever elaborated on that. Honestly I think that book can be better described as "the really messed-up small-town murder mystery where literally everyone knows who did it, and that just makes things more messed-up because also half the town were kinda complicit in the whole thing and only like one guy attempted to stop it".
YEAH i completely get what you're saying. there's also really no out that you get if you just don't for any reason like a book. i can't think of names but i know there were some things that i had to read in school that just made me uncomfortable for some reason or another, but the one that does stick out in my mind is from when a teacher gave us a list of books and told us to check off all the ones that we've read so i did, thinking that this was an exercise to see where the class was at in terms of "getting through the classics" or whatever. i checked off a couple that i really liked on there! and then it turns out that this was so that she could put us in small groups and assign each group a book that we hadn't yet read to analyze.
i think she neglected to think about the fact that sometimes people don't read things for a reason? but that's how i ended up reading what i classify as the worst book of all time. i couldn't even bear to be in the discussion for it i hated it so much i just joined other groups for books i had read in the past and liked and could actually talk about.
there's value in reading classic literature yes however i think that forcing kids to go through reading something that really is just viscerally painful for whatever reason is not a good way to get them interested in reading! there's even value in discomfort but you have to weigh the pros and cons of it. and that's something that sometimes you can't figure out until you actually start a book so i don't know what the solution is but maybe we should have more options for kids to pick things to read. give em a list at least

Here's a fairly solid amount of all the different kinds of media that I think both can fit well in and could share the same universe as Escape From Planet Nomanisan, an entire idea that I have for a 2D action/sci-fi adventure animated film, which you can both read and see below for yourself:
• Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories
— Every episode of the entire series except for Guilt Trip and Family Dog for very obvious reasons if you've watched them
• HBO's Tales From The Crypt
— The first five episodes of Season 1
— Cutting Cards, The Thing From The Grave, The Sacrifice, For Cryin' Out Loud, Four-Sided Triangle, Judy, You're Not Yourself Today, Fitting Punishment, Lower Berth, Mute Witness To Murder & Television Terror
— Abra Cadaver, Top Billing, Easel Kill Ya, Undertaking Palor, Deadline & Yellow
— None But The Lonely Heart, On A Deadman's Chest, Beauty Rest, What's Cookin', The New Arrival, Showdown, King Of The Road, Maniac At Large, Split Personality & Strung Along
— Forever Ambergris, People Who Live In Brass Hearses, Two For The Show, Well Cooked Hams, Came The Dawn & Half-Way Horrible
— Only Skin Deep, The Bribe, The Assassin, Staired In Horror, Surprise Party & You, Murderer
— Fatal Caper, Escape, Horror In The Night, Cold War, The Kidnapper, Report From The Grave & Confession
• Dan Angel & Billy Brown's R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour: The Series
— Every episode of the entire series except for Red Eye, Poof De Fromage, Bad Egg, Mrs. Worthington & Lotsa Luck because they were ass
• Bede Blake & Robert Butler's Creeped Out
— Slapstick, Trolled, A Boy Called Red, Kindlesticks, Shed No Fear & Side Show 1 & 2
— Itchy, The Many Place, The Unfortunate Five, No Filter, The Takedown & Splinta Claws

Master Post
Lost looking for something on this blog? This post is for you!
Months listed next to each show/movie/etc. below are those in which they can be found and usually were reblogged a lot.
I don’t regularly reblog all the shows I watch. I usually do “catch-up” reblogs for many of my shows, so expect occasional mass reblogs (especially at the beginning of a new month).
This post is here to give you an idea of where to search for gifs and photos, etc. of a particular subject on my blog. I’m usually pretty good with tagging everything, but in some cases it may be easier to go through the posts by month instead of by the tags.
It’s also my personal guide to what to reblog in the future, so this post will be updated or reposted whenever I’ve had a lot of activity or it’s a new month.

My Thoughts on Boxes
Something has kinda been bugging me the last little while, that I like to think a lot of people can relate to. We live in a society that, generally speaking, likes putting things into boxes; we like analyzing and sorting and organizing. And there’s nothing really wrong with that in and of itself--frankly, I could stand to do a lot more of it in the more practical aspects of my life--but such a system only really works with things that easily fit into discreet categories, and the things that aren’t or can’t be easily sorted are either forced into a box where they don’t fit, or left adrift without any real place to be.
In particular, I’m talking about fiction. You have numerous genres that multiply by the day, and the age categories that stories within those genres are deemed suitable for. And don’t get me wrong, there are lots of practical reasons for those categories; they make advertising and the organization of bookstores and libraries dramatically easier, and for most stories, this system works great, with each finding the audience most likely to derive benefit from reading it.
But--again, solely my opinion here--this may have produced stories that are a lot flatter than stories written in previous eras (which had their own problems, I will NOT get into that today). By flat, I don’t mean boring, or a failure of the story. I mean that the story feels like it was changed to fit into the category it most closely matched. In the most egregious examples, I feel like things were either added to a story that did nothing for it besides make it fit its box better, or taken out that were either integral to the story or added a depth and breadth to it that improved the work overall, even if that made it harder to sort.
This makes me think of the Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch quote, “Murder your darlings”, but completely opposite to what he was getting at. The general interpretation is “Even if you like a given piece of writing/painting/sculpture/etc., if it does more bad than good for your work, you need to remove it for the sake of the art.” What I feel is happening is “You need to change your story so it fits the target demographic, no matter what it looks like at the end.” The former serves the story and its spirit; the latter sacrifices the story for... I don’t know, ease of advertising, perhaps? Certainly financial gain is involved there.
So my first argument against this jaded, greedy way of thinking runs thus. Look at the stories that are now considered classics of Western literature: look at Wuthering Heights and Pride and Prejudice; look at White Fang and Call of the Wild; look at Dracula and Frankenstein; look at The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia (no, I couldn’t resist throwing in two classic fantasy titles, and no, I won’t apologize for it). If you haven’t read these stories, you probably should. Yes, they have problems that mark them as products of their time, but every last one of them has one thing in common: none of them were written with a box in mind. We’ve thought of lotr as a fantasy staple for so long that we’ve forgotten that, prior to its popularity, fantasy as a genre wasn’t really a thing. There were fairy-tales, yes, and stories with fantastical elements, but a genre of story with precise conventions? Not really.
Let’s zoom in on Tolkien’s work, for a moment. Look at his world and its origins, and it draws heavy inspiration from Old English and Scandinavian myths and legends. Look at his characters, in particular his four hobbits, and he drew from his love of the English countryside, his respect for the common working man (Sam, the gardener, literally carries Frodo, the wellbred young gentleman, on his shoulders in the final leg of their gruelling journey to the Cracks of Doom), and his horrific experiences in the First World War. Hilariously enough, a big part of the reason he wrote the stories was as a self-justification for his indulgence in and lifelong love affair with language invention (look at the huge appendices at the back of The Return of the King and tell me I’m lying!). Read his work and any and all interviews with him, and a “genre box” seems clearly to have never crossed his mind.
Putting aside the genre box for a moment, let’s talk age categories. The Hobbit was a story he invented for his children, and it does show. Look at the Lord of the Rings, and it is clearly at a higher level of reading comprehension, and written for a more mature audience; there’s less silliness, though he keeps the wonder at this wild, magical world. But where to put it? The hobbits run a spectrum from basically teenagers (Pippin) to almost middle age (Frodo is in his fifties when he embarks on his journey to Rivendell), yet they’re clearly his protagonists, though we also see some narration revolving around Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli, all of whom are adults, though the latter two are somewhat younger for their respective races, whereas Aragorn is in his eighties (this being offset somewhat by the fact that he lives to over two hundred, but I digress...). We’re told today (falsely; VERY falsely) that the main character(s) should match the age of their target audience. Where does lotr fit, then, in terms of age category?
The answer you’re looking for is: not really very well anywhere; at least, not according to modern convention. As for my personal experience, I could and did read both The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion at age thirteen. I consider myself a fairly intelligent young man, but I was varying degrees of lost when I read those. When I re-read them as an adult I was fine, but that isn’t to imply that teens shouldn’t be reading lotr, far from it. There’s nothing in them content-wise one wouldn’t reasonably expect a teenager to handle, and there’s a lot of good, powerful story and commentary in there that’s relevant to this day.
My point is, the age category doesn’t really matter. If I may shamelessly plug my own work for a moment, when I was first writing tftem, and even as I’m editing and publishing it now, I wondered and still wonder about this age category business. There is nothing in these stories I’d consider inappropriate for kids, and anyone above the age of about 8, with perhaps a slight stretch to their vocabulary, could comfortably read every story beginning to end. Further complicating matters, my beta readers ranged from 8 to almost 80, and most of the spectrum in between. They all liked it; whether they liked it for the same reasons is moot.
Which leads me into my second argument against boxing and categorizing stories. The boxes aren’t very reliable. If I may change media for a moment, cultural convention says, as an adult, there is only a narrow sleazy strip of cartoon entertainment I should be watching and enjoying. That tiny slice of the cartoon pie is the only slice I avoid like the plague. Yes, there are stories that don’t appeal to me because they’re too simplistic, or are problematic in ways that I find repellent, or just aren’t executed very well, but aside from things aimed at toddlers and the aforementioned “adult” cartoons, any cartoon is fair game. Give me an interesting concept, or a fascinating character, or hell just give me a good laugh or line of dialogue or beautiful fight scene, and I’ll give it a try.
My point is (yes I had one, and no, believe it or not I didn’t forget it), don’t write or draw or create with a box in mind. You will murder the spirit of your darlings. The box does not exist to define what you, the writer, are allowed to do, or what you should do. At best, the box exists in hindsight, once the work is done, to tell your prospective audience whether your story was written for them. And even then, lots of fantastic stories don’t sit well in boxes. Some of them actively rip the boxes to pieces. Lotr is a story that transcends boxes, and as a result has many layers and rabbit-holes and nuances that you can pick up when you’re ready to appreciate them, however old you are. In many ways, it’s ageless.
I didn’t write tftem to emulate Tolkien, nor even as an homage to him, or C.S. Lewis, or anyone else. But I did want to write a similarly ageless story, a story that could be read and appreciated a hundred years from now, by an audience of eight-year-olds or octogenarians. Why did we ever start moving away from stories like this? They were the foundation of stories for as long as stories have existed on Earth. People are still reading and marvelling at The Epic of Bloody Gilgamesh!
Tl;dr: don’t try to force your stories into boxes; they suffocate. Write what you enjoy writing; chances are it’ll live longer.

200 Follower Celebration
This is in response to @peonacotton‘s ask, which got lost in the void of dumblr. Thank you again for your support! 😘
1. Miscellaneous-Favorite books and why
I am going to limit myself to five because otherwise I would be here all day, lol. These are in no particular order.
1. Lord of the Rings trilogy- This is one of my favorite series of books (and movies) for multiple reasons. One, because I’m a super big nerd and this story checks so many of my fantasy story boxes. Two, the conflict and characters are so compelling. There are many times when the quest almost fails and all hope is lost, but the different protagonists keep striving, keep fighting in the face of defeat because there’s literally no other choice. The grit and drive of the characters is admirable beyond words and I’ve drawn a lot of strength from them over the years. Three, the detail Tolkien has in writing these stories. I mean, the guy created multiple languages and an origin history for this world...that’s some detail and investment in a story. Basically this trilogy is a brilliant masterpiece and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading fantasy.
2. Jane Eyre- I cannot give the classical love story enough praise. I am not usually one for reading novels where the romance is the primary focus (fanfiction is my great exception to this rule), but this gothic romance is one I gladly break that rule for. A strong female protagonist and a dark, brooding man with an equally dark secret strike an unusual friendship which blossoms into a romance that is filled with equal measures of passion and tragedy. Sprinkle in a little bit of gothic ambiance and you've got me hooked. 😉
3. The Little Prince- I first read this story back in 6th grade and fell in love with the Little Prince as he travels around the universe on a quest to save the rose that he loves, while observing truths about the world through the lens of a child's brutal honesty.
4. Harry Potter- This series was a staple of my youth and I continue to return to it over the years. When I first read it, I instantly connected with Harry and, as I've grown, I've pulled new observations from it every time. It's a story that continues to grow with me and I appreciate it when a story can do that. (I'm a Hufflepuff forever! 💛)
5. Great Expectations- This story follows Pip in his rags to riches story wherein Dickens takes us on a journey of self-growth through showing how wealth can poison and the pursuit of romantic love is a vain pursuit.
Though I would be remiss to not touch on some of my honorable mentions: Sense and Sensibility, A Tale of Two Cities, Bleak House, Frankenstein, anything by Poe, The Scorpion King, The Giver, The Alchemist, Ender's Game, The Thief Lord, The Mercy Thompson Series, The Savior's Champion, The Hunger Games, and The Chronicles of Narnia.
2. Mey-Rin Headcanons
Most of her odd behavior is due to the time she spent living in the slums, disguised as a boy. She has a habit of inhaling any warm food that is put in front of her in record time. She's been caught stashing food in odd places in the manor. And she still refuses to wear undergarments. Sebastian often has to remind her of the need for her to act like a proper lady.
Mey-Rin tells the most vulgar, hilarious jokes which was how Bard and her first became friends.
When Mey-Rin first came to the manor, she was so used to sleeping huddled next to someone for warmth that she was unable sleep alone. So, once everyone had retired for the night, she would sneak into Finny's room to sleep next to him. This habit took several months and a concerted effort on Sebastian's part to break. There were several nights where he would have to repeatedly carry the slumbering maid back to her chambers.
Out of all of the servants, she is closest to Bard. Having formerly been a soldier, Bard doesn't mind her crass, grammatically incorrect way of speaking or her jokes or her other odd quirks. He is the one person at the manor who she feels she can truly be herself with. And when they're not swapping stories about their pasts, they're bonding over the latest weaponry that the young master has asked the cook to test.
In a modern AU, Mey-Rin would be a self defense instructor. She would want others, especially women, to have the ability to protect themselves so they wouldn't have the same experiences that she did. While she may seem like a hardened badass in the classroom, she's actually a big softie and cries during every romantic movie she watches (which are her favorite, btw).
I hope you enjoyed. 😊 Thinking about Mey-Rin headcanons I have was interesting. I'm sorry if they had a bit of a more serious tone to them, since she's used chiefly for comic relief in the manga, I wanted to explore the more serious side of her personality.
Thank you again for your support! You are sweet, amazing, and talented individual. 🥰 Please stay safe and healthy, dear! 💕

here’s a lindsey buckingham interview from the may 1985 issue of song hits magazine :)
Lindsey Buckingham: Interview by Steve Wosahla
He’s done everything from recording his vocals in the bathroom to tapping Kleenex boxes for rhythmic overdubs. The word creative just doesn’t seem adequate enough to describe Lindsey Buckingham, one of the world’s greatest one man bands.
He is best known as the guitarist of Fleetwood Mac, the crazed frettmaster who stalks the stage like Frankenstein and twirls the studio dials with enough verve to make the word clever seem like a cliche.
After five albums with Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie and Mick Fleetwood, Buckingham recorded Law And Order and now, Go Insane, an autobiographical saga based on painful events in his personal life. In particular, the album chronicles his break-up with Carol Harris, the blond model who adorned the cover of the Buckingham-produced Not Shy album by Walter Egan.
Buckingham, who has also produced hits for John Stewart, most recently played on five tracks on Christine McVie’s first solo album and one for drummer Mick Fleetwood. He showed up as the bass player for a Kingston Trio reunion broadcast on public television but the curly haired musician from Los Angeles keeps a low profile. He admits to virtual anonymity in the city but also encourages it.
His house, secluded in the hills of Bel Air, provides a sweeping view of such California highlights as Dodger Stadium and the beautiful Malibu coast. But Buckingham is often holed up in his garage which doubles as his 24-track studio. While on hiatus from Fleetwood Mac, Buckingham’s main collaborator is a Fairlight synthesizer machine which is supposedly capable of producing any song imaginable. Not a bad toy for someone who grew up with the Beach Boys, now listens to Japanese koto and Chinese ensemble music and plays with pop music for a living.
Steve Wosahla: Having used the Fairlight system to produce much of the instrumentation on your new album, are there any limitations as to the types of sounds you can get?
Lindsey Buckingham: Well, apparently, not. They’ve got some new things that are coming out that are even more incredible, but it’s still gotta be music. You can take technology so far before you have to sort of stop and re-evaluate I guess. I’m very happy to have the Fairlight. I love to work with colors. It opened up a lot of new vistas on this record. But at the same time I try to use it in a fairly more organic way than some people might. I don’t know - I’m still learning.
SW: I’ve always been fond of something you said about recording, that you have to become totally absorbed in your work and allow yourself to be overwhelmed by it.
LB: Well, you do. You have to allow yourself to become completely vulnerable. It’s really important. The way I work is so much like a painting. You have to allow yourself to be so vulnerable that the work will just dictate its needs to you.
SW: You really achieved the insane feeling both in the disheveled look on the album cover and in the driving urgency of the music. did you have to psyche yourself into that state of mind?
LB: No, a lot of the subject matter had to do with a real live break-up. Actually it wasn’t a break-up per se. It was a sort of slow disintegration, a slow deterioration of a relationship which had four wonderful years and a couple of sort of very gray years. That’s in a sense what is being talked about - the effect that watching that has on you and has on both people from their perspectives. Everything can be very gray. The black and white just seems to go away and it’s hard to tell what’s even wrong sometimes. It can be a kind of trying situation.
SW: Is it hard to know when to end a relationship?
LB: It’s hard to know when to call it quits, yeah. You hope that things will get from one side to the other and things will hopefully start working themselves out again, but you can only take that so far. All the intense emotional presentation that’s on the record was not performed per se. It was going on a year or two previous to making the record and it was still not resolved when the album was being made.
SW: How are you feeling now?
LB: I feel that having addressed a lot of these things and having gotten them down on vinyl was quite cathartic and helpful to me. Halfway through the album things got pretty resolved I’d say. Not resolved but pretty much finished. So I feel pretty good. I’ve got a lot of material and I’m looking forward to just getting back in the studio.
SW: The album has a healing and comforting side to it. Would you agree?
LB: Yeah. I’m glad you said that, because there is a disappointed painful side but I felt that it had a certain optimism to it, certainly by the end of the record anyway. I feel like it was healing for me in some senses. I make the joke flippantly but it was probably a lot more fun and a lot cheaper than say, going to a shrink.
SW: On “Go Insane,” did you ever feel like you lost your creative power?
LB: I think it’s almost a weekly occurrence. You go from feeling strong and feeling really good to times when you just don’t. That song is not about going insane for all time but for the fact that we all go insane from time to time. There are times when we tend to go out a little bit and you’re walking on that edge.
SW: Do you think most artists or musicians feel insecure before each album?
LB: Before their next project you’re dealing with fairly insecure people I’d say.
SW: Do you include yourself among them?
LB: Oh sure. Probably. Not all the time. It’s very difficult when you put yourself on the line. It takes a good deal of courage to keep doing it. Every time you get through a project, you think, “Well, that’s great, I really accomplished something.” But on a day to day level, to keep the optimism that you can create something worthwhile is a rather tricky business. You know courage isn’t really the absence of fear. It’s just sort of dealing with fear.
SW: Do you think a lot of rock ‘n’ rollers don’t challenge themselves enough because it’s easier to keep making hits?
LB: Well, I don’t know if they go unchallenged. Having been in a band that sold as many records as Fleetwood Mac did, there’s an upside and a downside to that. There are so many possibilities out there that people will not approach because their motivation is to make money. My motivation has never been to make a lot of money. My motivation has been to be creative and make myself feel good and hopefully make other people feel good. Having been in a group that sold that many records got to the point where everyone was saying, “Oh gee Rumours must be the greatest album ever made” because it sold the most at the time. That equation was rather faulty to me. i felt that there was a great discrepancy between what was going on with the stir that was created and what had been really accomplished internally as a group; what had we accomplished on that record?
SW: You followed up Rumours with the double album Tusk that many people called experimental. What were you trying to accomplish on Tusk?
LB: The Tusk album was an attempt to not only confound people’s preconceptions about what the group was or what pop music was, but it was also an attempt to make sure we weren’t trapped in the commercial machinery which is very entrapping. It’s not necessarily the most cohesive album but then people say that about the Beatles’ White Album as well. It’s got so much variety there.
SW: Do you still feel you can be as experimental and really challenge people with your music in Fleetwood Mac?
LB: Not really. There was a point during the Tusk album when everyone in the group seemed to think this was an interesting thing that was going on and later on because it hadn’t sold as much (as Rumours) they decided it wasn’t such a good thing.
SW: Was there any resentment toward you?
LB: I don’t know. There probably is but that’s a long time ago, long gone. Consequently Mirage was in my eyes a very reactionary album. The group’s collective will dictated that we return to a slightly more conservative format. I don’t think we can ever go back to the kind of spirit or eclectic mood that was created on the Tusk album. I don’t think the other members of the group would want that and I don’t think that’s my place to impose it on them.
SW: Would you say that you and Christine are the closest musically in Fleetwood Mac?
LB: There is certainly a band there. Maybe not musically, that’s too broad. Maybe instrumentally. I think that if she and I just sit down and play piano and guitar it all flows together as if we were plugged into the same brain sometimes. In terms of overall musical sensibilities I wouldn’t say so. My style tends to be structurally and otherwise experimental. In terms of history I’m sort of between Christine and Stevie.
SW: Are you looking forward to recording a new album with Fleetwood Mac?
LB: Well, yes and no. I would like to get another solo project out first because I have one sort of waiting in the wings. The one thing I would like to do is pare the whole thing down and have a slightly less dense album. Fewer things with each of them a little bigger.
SW: Having produced other artists rather successfully and loving the studio, do you see your future in production?
LB: Oh yeah. I think I still have a few more albums in me. Hopefully, you go from one thing gradually into another. I think there’s a lot of things I could do. I think I’m just now learning not to worry about things. I’m really one of those consummate worriers. Now I’m just starting to realize that a lot of things are possible. Keep your eyes and ears open, just do what you’re doing, don’t worry about it and look sharp.

The title alone reeled me in, I feel as though you can never know enough when it comes to history! Thank you I’ll enjoy taking a look at that today :D you mentioned watching the alienist, it’s so good!!! I believe there is a Frankenstein tv show along a similar vein but not as engaging that could possibly interest you? It has Shawn Bean in it and if I remember correctly, it’s a murder mystery/victoriana myth with medical science! 🐀
Oh yes! Its the Frankenstein Chronicles I believe. It is in my Netflix queue but not yet watched. On my watching list for the next few months is The Terror, And Then There Were None, and True Detective season 1. If you have any other historical show references I would love it.

mommakittysworld replied to your photoset “Rachel Chavkin receiving the Tony Award for Best Director of a Musical...”
I wouldn't watch a film that was directed or produced by a woman just because I dont think I'd be interested in it. I like horror. The more disturbing, the better. I just dont think most women have the right personality to create a good horror film. I hate comedy, and especially romance. My tastes aren't very feminine.
Ok so, I received this reply on my post about Rachel’s speech on the Tonys. I’m going to block this person outright and I won’t engage in any type of conversation with them. However, I want to post this reply with two intentions:
1) I appreciate when blogs I follow show these kinds of behavior toward their content so that I can block them and not have to cross paths with them in the future. I highly advice you not to engage in conversation with them, not even to dissent, but if you find their answer as insulting as I did, you might want to block them.
2) I am going to take this opportunity to talk about a very favorite subject of mine: women in horror. Here is a list of several women who have created content in the realms of horror in the past or who are doing it today, from various standpoints, with various origins and for very different tastes, as well as a selection of examples of their work (there’s so much more they’ve done!). Tread with caution because horror is not devoid of triggers. Whatever I haven’t seen or read in this list is at least included in my to-watch/read lists. This person might not appreciate them, but I know someone out there will.

My girlfriend asked me to make her a list of works of fantasy and science fiction so should could feel keyed into references when they come up in conversation. She wanted to feel more grounded in these genres, which she likes, but hasnt made the effort to be on top of everything.
I was happy to compile the most important names, but told her it couldn’t be a short list because recognizing the works of today means honoring their origins, which goes way back into our past.
What’s below is my best effort to include what I assess to be the most culturally relevant becoming, tempering my favorites, and trying to keep it from being totally overwhelming. I’ve left off works from the past five to ten years because it can take a span of time before we're aware the effects new ideas may have. Felt like sharing here in case you or your friends want a crash course on the bedrock of our imagined landscape. I do try to be globally aware, however this list will reflect my bias as a white, straight, male who grew up in the States. And as this is an ongoing conversation between her and myself, I wanted to be able to vouch for the contents.

1, 2, 11 and 15 if you’re still taking asks for the identity ask meme?
My core interests are so different each & every week, so it’s kinda hard to pin me down to a few categories imo. But because you took the time to ask me, I would gladly answer these questions for you hdkdjdk💖💖💕
(under a read more for ask length) (x)
1. if someone wanted to really understand you, what would they read, watch, and listen to?
So many things… Not necessarily my favorites, but these feel like me somehow.
THEY WOULD READ:
my natal chart. Honestly, I know astrology’s a pseudo-science - you can’t actually prove what’s true or not - but I deeply feel like my signs are accurate to my personality.☀️🌙
(Virgo sun means I’m a perfectionist, kind, & smart. Aries moon means I have a childish outlook & am quick-tempered, moody. Capricorn rising means I take things seriously & am image-conscious, but have a sense of humor still. I’m also Libra & Aquarius dominant, which means that I mostly seek balance in my life & relationships, but I come off as distant, too. Libra is also home in Venus, or the planet of love, so I naturally interpret things through a romantic lens.)
interactive fiction🥺🥺🙏🏼
esp. The Wayhaven Chronicles & Creatures Such As We
Greek myths (esp. “Eurydice & Orpheus”, “Psyche & Eros”) & fairytales
a lot of poetry & web-weaving about the human connection
my about page, lol
THEY WOULD WATCH:
(youtube) Jubilee, WIRED, Try Guys, vine compilations
Jubilee: Middle Ground, but Seeking Secrets hits me in a way no other videos have
WIRED: Technique Critique
Try Guys: I just like them? I think they’re hilarious & I enjoy watching guys being guys & having fun.
(movies) To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, A Silent Voice, The Edge of Seventeen, Mean Girls
(tv shows) The Good Place, The End of the F***ing World (more s2 than s1 in content), Black Mirror s1e3, Queer Eye s3e7 (24:03)
(comedians) John Mulaney, Mitch Hedberg, Trevor Noah, Bo Burnham, Catherine Tate
Team Starkid’s Starship musical
THEY WOULD LISTEN TO…
…both sides of a story before coming to a decision.
…these songs, which I listed in the order I thought made them sound the nicest:
Lower Your Expectations - Bo Burnham
Someone To You - BANNERS
Pardon Me - He Is We
Memories - Thutmose
Last Words of a Shooting Star - Mitski
Learn Me Right - Birdy, Mumford & Sons
Liability - Lorde
Do I Wanna Know - Hozier
Give Me Love - Ed Sheeran
A Thousand And One Nights - Starkid
Can’t Handle This - Bo Burnham
2. have you ever found a writer who thinks just like you? if so, who?
Yes, actually! Sylvia Plath, Franz Kafka, & E.E. Cummings wrote in ways that completely agree with me. Most everything they wrote, I could find myself in it.
11. describe your ideal day.
My ideal day would be super chill - it just involves a ton of relaxing. I’m wearing comfortable clothes & am hanging out with people I like (friends/family). We can go somewhere new or stay where it’s familiar. We eat together & tell stories that make each other laugh. We watch a theatre performance/tv show/movie.
15. five most influential books over your lifetime.*
NatGeo’s Weird But True! debut book
This little book jumpstarted my intense craving for any & all trivia. I read it, cover to cover, in elementary school & would spew the relevant ones during class. Since then, I’ve kinda just had a reputation for knowing things.
a book filled with Grimm’s fairytales
I learned about love through fairytales. It was actually the illustration accompanying “Rapunzel” that made a shiver run up my spine. I couldn’t have been older than 10. I stared & felt wonder, & I believe that love is good & rewarding.
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
A surprisingly engaging novel. IIRC Shelley wrote it when she was my age & I had to read it for class. It opened my eyes to the idea of taking responsibility for the creation/guidance of life & education. (Also, apparently, there has always a literary struggle between man vs. God. Wack.)
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson
^ These two explored the concept of soul mates & how we determine how our lives unfold - if that makes sense? Like, choosing what to do with ourselves in a moment & then dealing with whatever follows from that.
-
*I feel like books haven’t influenced me as much as just talking to people has. I like to watch the interviews of creatives & behind-the-scenes clips because I’ll never know as much about a certain topic as said creative does. I am genuinely interested in knowing what anyone says always.
I also read sooo much (but not novels nowadays). Everything from YouTube comments to video game lore to bodily illness to historical fashion to love letters between poets to Tumblr posts to the backs of cereal boxes. Most anything I come across & have no info on, I want to know about. There is so much to discover in everything. My memory is long & I am young still.
Books are written by one person; they hardly have an answer I’m looking for.
#asks#2-dream#mine#🥺🥺🥺#i don't think i'll ever get over you being interested in whatever i may have to say (!)#i wrote a NOVEL again but how do you sum up your existence into a few categories ya know?

Facts about me the mun <3
One: Name/Alias: Ash or Clay xD
Two: Birthday: Oct. 30
Three: Zodiac Sign: scorpio
Four: Height: 5′4
Five: Hobbies: video games, writing, drawing, cosplay, as well as watching movies and shows, theorizing about certain games or stories, and watching a few specific, and colorful, youtubers
Seven: Favorite Books: Chronicles of Vladimir Tod by Zac Brewer (always a fave series), Homelanders by Andrw Klavan (thrilling!) Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchet (new fave), and the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson (at least all the ones he wrote alone anyway...)
Eight: Last Song Listened to: Love the way you lie - Eminem feat. Rihanna
Nine: Last Movie Watched: Sharknado: Its about time!
Ten: Inspiration For Muse: I take the majority of what I can from canon, but there is a lot of inspiration from characters like Lucifer Morningstar (Lucifer), but also I take what I can from like Frankenstein, I, Robot and other bits of info from Isaac Asimov, as well as mythology with Prometheus and things to that affect.
Eleven: Dream Job : I don’t know, I just want to be happy and make enough to live comfortably with
Twelve: Meaning Behind your URL: In Greek mythology, Prometheus is a Titan, culture hero, and trickster figure who is credited with the creation of man from clay, and who defies the gods by stealing fire and giving it to humanity, an act that enabled progress and civilization. I couldn’t use literally any form of Prometheus that I liked, so I went with the next best thing, creator of clay.

20 Questions Book Tag
1. How many books are too many for a series?
Honestly, if you’re really invested in the story, the universe and the characters, you can never have enough. However, I would say that J.K. Rowling- for example- got it right with 7 books. Going from one book to the next, it didn’t feel dragged out at all. I mean my favourite trilogy of all time, The Dark Elements trilogy, whilst I was left wanting more, I also felt that Jennifer L. Armentrout spaced out the entire plot satisfactorily; keeping it well paced. However, I am bloody excited to dive back into the world again with her new book Storm and Fury. So, all in all, it does vary depending on the quality of the series and the story being told, but I’d say 7 is a good number.
2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?
Whilst they can be BLOODY PAINFUL AT TIMES, I love when a book has me on edge like that- just throw my lifeless body off that cliff baby and let me dangle. But yeah, I would need to read the next book soon or lest my peers feel my wrath.
3. Hardcover or Paperback?
Whilst I do really love the look and aesthetic of a hardcover, especially in my flatlays, I prefer reading from a paperback. I find a book bounding in hardback too constricting and I can’t bend the book as much as I’d like. Plus, paperback are softer to hold in the hand and lighter in weight. If I really love a book, I’ll have them in both paperback and hardback, if available.
4. Favourite Book?
Oh for fuck sake, I knew this was coming! Let me at least give you a list:
- Goblet of Fire by J.K . Rowling (probs my favourite of all time as I’ve read it 17 times and still want to read it again)
- Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (read it 7 times and still thinking about reading it again, what a damn book)
- The entire Dark Elements trilogy (White Hot Kiss, Stone Cold Touch and Every Last Breath) by Jennifer L. Armentrout (read the whole trilogy twice and will be re-reading now to prepare for Storm and Fury)
- A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens (I’ve read it every Christmas for 6 years now)
- Catching Fire by Susanne Collins (favourite from the trilogy, it built up so much from The Hunger Games)
- Outlander by Diana Gabaldon (Jaaaaaaaaamie, my god! But also Claire is one of the strongest characters I’ve ever read in any book)
- Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardobe (a childhood fave, love me some Aslan)
5. Least Favourite Book?
Easily Vampire Diaries 1. LOOK, I absolutely bloody love The Vampire Diaries television series, it’s in my top 5 favourite TV shows of all time. However, the show really took all the potential that the story had from the books and made it 1000 x better. This is one of the rare cases when the book/books are far worse than their screen adaptation. I mean, no spoilers for anyone interested in reading the books still but, Elena in the books is just so unlikable which is hard to think of when you see her in the show. Nina Dobrev’s portrayal of Elena is the complete opposite of the written word and thank god it is, and she does it brilliantly. Major respect for all the actors, writers, producers, etc. in the show, they did a wonderful job.
6. Love Triangles, yes or no?
When done well, abso-bloody-lutely! Most of my favourite books have a love triangle in them and they always keep me turning the page (and no Twilight does not technically count because it’s very obvious in the books that Edward was always the choice for Bella, the movies only changed it slightly to sell the story and strengthen the fanbase which, to be fair to them, worked and I went along with it xD). I would like to see a new version of the trope being done though, like the two fighting for the protagonist’s affection end up falling in love with each other or something, not THAT would be interesting.
7. The most recent book you couldn’t finish?
Probably Vampire Diaries actually, I just... I don’t like wasting time on books that I’m not enjoying.
8. A book you’re currently reading?
Literally just started reading 13 Reasons Why because I’m hungover from the series on Netflix. I am one of those idiots that actually like to watch the movie first (if available) before the book as I can visualize it better that way (other than that, I love dream-casting when reading a new book). Additionally, the Netflix series... oh my god. I have never physically and emotionally reacted to a show more. That season 2 finale, my jaw was LITERALLY to my chest and i had to pause at certain moments because I couldn’t believe what happened. Wow.
9. Last book you recommended to someone?
I think it was A Court of Thorns and Roses to my mother, she absolutely loves all the YAs, it’s a great thing to share with her. She’s now read all of the Court books so far. The bitch is further ahead than me!
10. Oldest book you’ve read by publication date?
Does the Bible count? xD I kid- kinda. I used to be slightly religious when I was younger, didn’t help that I was brought up in a primary church school. Now that I’m 22 going on 57, I label myself as more of an agnostic. I believe everything has the possibility to exist until proven otherwise, and I fully respect everyone’s opinions and beliefs on the matter (though people who deny the existence of aliens and ghosts perplex me). Anyway, to actually answer the question (I’m not a concise person), probably Frankenstein published in 1818.
11. Newest book you’ve read by publication date?
Probably When The Curtain Falls by Carrie Hope Fletcher, released in 2018.
12. Favourite Author?
Ugggh it’s between Cassandra Clare, J. K. Rowling and Jennifer L. Armentrout. Don’t make me choose.
13. Buying or borrowing books?
Buying always buying, I want to own my own library, which I’m starting off well now with around 400 and odd books.
14. A book you dislike that everyone seems to love?
The only book I’ve ever disliked is Vampire Diaries and I think a few people are obsessed with them so I’ll say that.
15. Bookmarks or Dog Ears?
Are... are you kidding me? Please tell me other people are using bookmarks? PLEASE!!
16. A book you can always re-read?
Goblet of Fire, and I know I can re-read it because I’ve read that beautiful bugger 17 times! Still not bored of it.
17. Can you read while listening to music?
Oh hell no, I have to read in complete silence so that I can fully focus and enjoy each word.
18. One POV or multiple?
I personally prefer one POV, however one of my favourite fan fictions is written in a couple or more POV’s and it really added to the story and suspense and mystery. But, generally speaking, I prefer POV.
19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?
Over multiple weeks more like xD I mean, it depends on my mood and how much I’m enjoying the book. The quickest I’ve read a book is in two days. The longest I’ve ever taken to read a book is three months.
20. Book boyfriend?
Multiple... but my main man has to be Roth from Dark Elements trilogy.

Master Post
Lost looking for something on this blog? This post is for you!
Months listed next to each show/movie/etc. below are those in which they can be found and usually were reblogged a lot.
I don’t always regularly reblog all the shows I watch.
