A little cat comes wandering into camp. Makes it way over to twilight who is fish next to time. Let’s out the tiniest mew. As if trying to talk to them.
A few more cats then show up watching them.
Twilight: Guess I have a few cats now.
Sky: Twi, you do know that it would be extremely hard to care for them while we are traveling right? And that they would be in danger?
Twilight: Doesn't mean its impossible. Or are you trying to tell me you don't want them here?
Sky: Well-
Four: Fuck yes, get them out. Demon hellspawn.
Twilight: What do you mean demon hell-

the legends speak of it as a kind of enthrallment: the life ended by the tiger is tied to the tiger. in this way there is a line of souls following the beast, for no reason except to show that they were killed. that they could be saved - if only the beast would die [...] in the dark of the wood you see it walk, shadow to shadow, followed by loss after loss after loss, a tail trailing seemingly into the deep death of night [...]
#bakuspecial#cw: body horror#cw: nudity#ask to tag#hi. this is actually not at all the piece Ive been sitting on. I just suddenly really wanted to sketch this at 4 last night#and now. it got done before the one Ive been looking at for uhhhh four days! awesome#this legend I only know like colloquially but it is real btw. iirc#like if a tiger mauls u ur soul has to follow it around until it does#dies. Lucville, October 12th
October was a fun month for most people. There was the official start of fall and of course halloween season. There was no one happier than your friends, you on the other hand were not a fan.
Something about Halloween just gave you the creeps. Which, yes may be its exact purpose, but that didn’t mean you had to like it. Besides, you preferred Spring anyway.
You sat on your desk chair next to your bed, head hanging back as your body laid limp on the seat. Your friend, Yuqi, was sorting through your closet. Well what was left of the clothes in your closet. She had thrown half of your wardrobe onto the floor, searching for the perfect outfit for tonight.
“Do I have to go?” You groaned, “Like really?”
It wasn’t like you to want to go out and party and your friends knew that, which is why tonight was a special occasion.
“Your parents aren’t going to let you stay home alone, considering recent events.”
“I’d say five years ago is hardly recent.”
There was a series of disappearances that led up to Halloween when you were in your early years of high school. It was three different people who happened to live within your town, some even attended the same school as you. It was a small town, yet you wouldn’t have considered yourself close to any of the students, except for one.
Jihoon was one of your older brother, Inhyuk’s longest and closest friends. You remember how they’d always hang out at your house after school playing video games. Jihoon was always so sweet to you, inviting you into their hangouts so you wouldn’t be alone. Even with the four year age gap you couldn’t help but develop a puppy crush on him.
A week had passed since his disappearance, everyone expected that the kids were playing a senior prank and would return shortly, your brother knew differently. He grew more distressed as the days passed. You remember how annoying it was that he wouldn’t allow you to go anywhere without him right by your side.
That protectiveness only got worse when the bodies had been discovered. The TV was playing a re run of IT in honor of Halloween when an emergency news broadcast appeared.
“It appears the bodies of multiple missing persons have been discovered after police received an anonymous report leading to an investigation of Velvet Lake.”
Chills ran down your spine as the names of the kids appeared on screen, Jihoon being one of the three. Your brother had taken it badly, he couldn’t leave his room for months. That’s why as soon as he graduated he took a scholarship across the globe and never came back.
It only made the house emptier. Your father was always traveling abroad on business so he was hardly ever around, and your mother who was a surgeon at S.E.S, the towns local hospital, was working overtime. That left you alone most of the time when you weren’t with your friends.
“I’m not talking about that Virgin killer, i’m talking about those people who were mauled by a bear or something in Melody.”
Melody was the neighboring town to yours closer to the city, and as far as you knew, there wasn’t much wildlife there.
“A bear? How would a bear even be there?”
“How would I know. My dad just said what he saw on today’s paper.” She shrugged pulling a shirt from your closet and bringing it up to your chest.
“It’s not Virgin Killer by the way, it’s Vestal.”
“Same difference. I think this is it by the way.” She motioned her head to the mirror behind you. It was a green and brown tube top with a turtleneck she had chosen for you to wear. It was cropped, exposing your waist down. You’d argue it wasn’t exactly appropriate for the weather but Yuqi never took that into account.
“Perfect.” She smiled and headed back to your closet. “Now we gotta find matching pants.”
“Isn’t it kind of stupid that they’re hosting a party already. Halloween isn’t even til three weeks from now.”
“Y/N you should know already they will throw a party for any reason.” Her voice comes out muffled. You roll your eyes knowing she’s searching the deep depths of your closet.
“What’s the point in that, aren’t parties supposed to be special?”
“Y/N, college parties are an excuse for us to get drunk and have fun. What’s more special than that?”
You trace out the words ‘HELP ME’ on the desk with your finger, whining. “Nothing for me, so do I have to go?”
You’re suddenly hit on the side of your head. You look down at a the floor where a juniper maxi skirt lays on the floor.
“You play this same game every time and end up dragged to the party anyway,” Yuqi bursts, “We’re going. So put those on and stop your bitching.”
You sigh in defeat, grabbing the skirt and beginning to change into the clothes before the sound of the doorbell goes off.
Yuqi lets a breath out. “That’s probably Minnie I’ll go get her. Stay here and don’t try and get away.” She pleads with emphases on ‘ don’t ‘ before leaving your room.
You change into your clothes, staring at yourself in the mirror. The amount of skin showing makes you a bit uncomfortable so you reach for a black leather jacket on the floor from Yuqi’s assault on your closet. You put it on feeling much more content hearing the approaching voices of your friends.
“You should really learn to stop popping up out of nowhere and call before you’re coming over.”
“I paged you guys.” Minnie spoke evidently.
You snicker, “You still carrying yours around?“
She rolls her eyes, “Okay you’re just lucky your mom and dad can afford to get you a cell.”
You shrug.
“It’s getting late, we should get going.” Yuqi says putting her own jacket on. You grab onto her before she can slip out the door.
“And this mess?”
The entire room looked as if it was part of the titanic wreckage. You could hardly see the floor with the piles of clothing covering it. She looks around then at you with an innocent smile. “I’ll help later.”
You take a breath knowing that was a lie, but following your friends out of the house nonetheless.
This better be worth it.
The frat house is about as messy as you would’ve expected. Red solo cups are left on every surface of the house, and you were sure not a single one of them was filled with water. There was a crowd in the living room surrounding a game of foosball between two guys you were sure were on the football team.
At some point your group separated to go meet up with other people. This was exactly why you hated coming to parties. Within a minute of walking through the front door, Yuqi would met up with her drama club friends and Minnie left with some group of stoners. You walked around hoping to find something to drink to pass time.
You walked into the kitchen finding a small trio of familiar faces hovering around the fridge. Two of the three idiots were taunting the youngest while he stood confused. You slowly sneak up and approach them startling them at the sound of your voice.
“You guys some sort of watch dogs for the drinks or?”
“Jesus fuck when did you get here?”
You shrug, gesturing your hands for them to move from the fridge. “Like twenty minutes ago.” You grab a coke out of the fridge and crack it open taking a sip.
“You came alone little fox, or in your usual set?”
You cringed at the nickname used. Johnny, the eldest of the frat, loved to call you that because of how sneaky you were. It wasn’t ever purposely, you just happened to ‘pop up out of nowhere’ sometimes according to others.
“Yuqi and Minnie went to go find their own cliques.”
“And left you to fend for yourself? That’s not good manners.” Yuta was the second eldest although he acted far from it. He and Johnny had been underclass men to your brother when they were in high school so you guys were pretty close.
“Stealing one of Kun’s cokes isn’t well mannered either.” Johnny teased.
“He’ll live.” You say taking another sip.
“You really shouldn’t be wandering around all by yourself y/n, it’s not very safe.” Mark, the youngest chimes in. Mark was in a grade higher than you, you had never been very close with him until a year ago though, seeing as he began to spend time more with your friend group.
He was a quiet type, kept to himself a lot of the time, and was usually the victim of a joke. He was very sweet though. Minnie pointed out that the last frat party you couldn’t attend, he wouldn’t stop asking her about you.
When she told him you were sick he seemed concerned and gave her shit for just leaving you behind. You felt a blush creeping in at the thought of him carrying so much about you.
“Awww why do you care so much about y/n?” Yuta says squeezing the younger’s cheeks. He slaps his hand off of him and Yuta only bursts out laughing.
“He’s right little fox,” Johnny says directed to you. He was always trying to sound wise. “I mean didn’t you notice the way Sungchan has been eyeing you all night?”
You didn’t. Sungchan had hit on you at the last frat party your friends attended in which you respectfully declined. The way the guys were talking though was as if he was some stalker, your skin crawled at the thought.
“You’re just saying that.”
“It’s true. His attention is always on you, even when you’re not paying attention.”
“Let’s face it, she’s never paying attention.” Yuta adds.
“And that’s exactly why you gotta be careful. College men can’t be trusted.”
You scoff, “You do realize you are included in that generalization. College man.”
Yuta pokes Johnny, putting him on the spot. “She got you there.” The eldest only rolls his eyes. Yuta might seem drunk to most people, and maybe he was, but you and your friends knew he was just the playful type.
“I think Johnny is right, especially around this season. You never know what could happen.” Mark’s sentence trails off.
“Oh chills,” Yuta says raising his arm, “You gave me chills Mark. You’re talking about that Virgin taker right?”
Johnny’s eyebrows furrow, “I don’t think that’s the name.”
“Whatever you know what I mean. He slaughtered all those puritans didn’t he?”
“A little insensitive don’t you think?”
“What? You mad he couldn’t take yours too?” He replies with a wink and sip of his beer. You take it back, he was definitely drunk.
This time you let out a giggle, it was always fun being around these idiots. “Vestal. Can’t believe i’ve had to correct two people on that today.” You shake your head.
“Who was the first?” Mark asks curiously.
“Yuqi, speaking of, I should probably start looking for her. I’m ready to bounce.”
“I thought I saw she left out earlier with some girl with short hair?”
“Great. So she left me and Minnie to get laid.” You say sarcastically.
Johnny clicks his tongue. “You must’ve broken a mirror, little fox. Minnie left out with the boys to go get some food. Munchies, you know.”
You groan, sinking your head into your hand. “They drag me here for no reason. Okay i’m leaving now, i’ll see you guys when I do.”
“You walking alone?” Mark‘s voice comes out full of concern.
You shrug. “Seems like it.”
“I can walk you home if you don’t mind?” He suggests.
“Thank you, but really It’s okay.” You’re already heading towards the door, throwing your empty can in the trash when you hear Yuta’s voice.
“Careful Y/N, don’t let the virgin killer get ya.”
You keep your sight forward, flicking him off as you leave.
You walk through your front door, sliding the locks on instantly. Your shoulders drop, the stress leaving your body. Walking home alone was what you did regularly, only this time it felt different. It felt like someone was accompanying you, even if it was only you walking your regular route home.
The fifteen minutes felt longer than usual but that could’ve rang true since you stopped a few times to look around swearing you could feel eyes on you. That’s why as soon as you got home you turned on all of the lights in your home.
Stupid Yuta. He was always saying something to put you on edge.
You turn on the TV and are shocked to find that the news is still on.
“Due to a power outage the following locations have been left with no power over sixty percent of people are left with no clue on when it will be repaired. Schools and Universities have decided to postpone classes for the time being. People are outraged, some believing this upcoming blood moon could be the reasoning for the power outages.”
The list of cities and towns comes up. Melody, Lucville, Graze town , and 0 mile.
Lucville. That couldn’t be right, you had power right now. The phone rings loudly from the kitchen, pulling you from your thoughts. You get up to check, walking to the counter and pulling the phone to your ear.
“Hell–”
“Did you hear??? The campus closed down cause of some weird power thing, it’s not coming back til November.” Yuqi’s voice cuts yours off.
“I did yeah but that doesn’t make any sense,” You object, “my power’s working.”
“Yeah it’s only effecting places like the police stations and schools, some hospitals too. Don’t read too much into it just be happy we have no classes.”
“Yeah I guess you’re right.”
“I gotta go now, my bed calls me. I only called to make sure you got home. Minnie told me you left alone.”
“The bed or the person in it,” You hear her squeak like she’d been caught. “Don’t forget you owe me a clean room.”
“I’ll get to it tomorrow, promise.”
“Whatever.” You hang up.
At that moment you hear a knock at the front door. You check the time. 1:40am. Weird, your mom was held up at work and your father was still out of town. You walk over to the front door checking the peep hole and seeing nothing.
That’s strange.
You unlock the door and open it, looking around the area. It was just an empty street, not a single light was on from any house. You close the door guessing it could’ve been from the TV, when the phone rings again.
You walk over to the kitchen grabbing the phone. “Hello?”
You’re met with silence.
You scoff, “Yuta? If this is your idea of a prank you should really move on. Everyone’s seen Scream by now.” You hang up.
Even though you were very sure it was just Yuta who was prank calling, you can’t help but feel a shiver run down your spine. You reach up over the counter opening the cabinet to grab a glass when the phone rings again.
You jump, the glass dropping from your finger tips and crashing into the ground. You groan, carefully crossing the glass without stepping in it and reaching for the phone.
“Yuta I swear to god the next time I see you, you better have a jockstrap on!” You shout before being cut off.
“Woah y/n are you okay?”
You sigh in relief. “Mark?”
“Yeah, I was calling to make sure you got home safe. Is something wrong?”
“It’s nothing, just got a bit spooked with a call earlier.”
“I’m guessing Yuta?”
“Ding Ding Ding. Guess i’m victim to his little halloween pranks.”
“I’ll talk to him about it.”
“Don’t bother, I can handle him.”
“I’m sure you can,” He chuckles, “Jockstrap?”
“It’s a clear warning in case he does want kids in the future.”
You can hear his smile through the phone, it helps ease your mind. “Assuming he doesn’t already have some running around?”
You let out a chuckle. “You’re right. He’ll be fine without any more.”
The laugh he lets out is contagious. “I gotta clean up a bit here, i’m glad you called though.” You meant it.
“Of course, wouldn’t want anything to happen to you. Who else would keep the guys in check?”
You can’t help the blush that fills your cheeks. “Bye, Mark.”
“I’ll see you later y/n.” The call ends.
You quickly clean up the mess before heading back into your brother’s old room to sleep. It was completely empty save for the TV left on a counter and a loan poster of Madonna on the wall.
You turn off the lights hoping to god you will make tomorrow’s morning shift at the diner.
It was about thirty minutes left of your shift before you were finally free. You rubbed your face to keep yourself awake. It was Monday morning shift and usually they weren’t that busy, but since classes were all canceled for the next week, you noticed a lot more students came to the diner.
You worked at Salty & Sweet Diner for over a year already. It gave you something to do when you weren’t at school so you wouldn’t have to spend all your time at home by yourself. It also gave you money you could use to go out with friends instead of depending on your parents.
“Looking terrible y/n.” The man who is next in line looks up at you with a mocking smile.
“As do you, What can I get for you today YangYang? Same as usual?”
He nodded, “Extra whipped cream don’t forget it.”
You write down his order on a notepad. “And you?”
“Are you on the menu?” Jaehyun jokes.
“Limited time only and you just missed it.”
Jaehyun and YangYang were usually in the frat basement getting high when they weren’t attending classes, so their presence today was surprising.
“The guys should be getting here soon.” Jaehyun comments, “Something about it being your shift so we should come over to annoy you?”
“I thought I mentioned if i see any of you in here i’ll have my manager ban you guys.”
“Nice try, Your manager was busy last night getting high with us.” YangYang points his finger at Minnie, who’s counting the register behind you.
The diner was owned by Minnie’s parents which is how you landed the job in the first place. You were great full most times, but not now. At that moment the door rings signaling another customer coming. You can spot the idiot from miles away.
“Y/N, how are you did you miss me?” He says enthusiastically. You roll your eyes.
“I wouldn’t even miss you if you died.”
“Ouch.” He grabs at his chest dramatically. Before you can berate him you’re cut off by the familiar, comforting voice.
“Hey y/n, how’s your shift going?” Mark says, his attention fixed onto you.
“It’s fine. What are you doing here?” You respond shyly.
“The guys wanted to annoy you but I only came to make sure you were alright.”
“I’m okay.” You could feel the awkwardness radiating off of your body.
“That’s good,” He clears his throat. “So, the guys were actually going to host another party this weekend. I was wondering if It’ll be okay if i keep my hopes up to see you.”
You wait a second before responding. “I can’t confirm whether you will be disappointed or not.” He nods at your answer when a voice cuts into your conversation.
“You won’t be. She will be there.” Minnie’s voice rings out.
You look at her, eyes wide. She only gives a tight smile. It’s her signature ‘Don’t even try it’ look.
Yuta speaks this time, “Great, so i’m guessing you will all three be there?”
“You guessed correctly.” She grins, “I’ll let Yuqi know about it. Y/N you can go now.”
“My shift isn’t over?”
“Yeah well I’m sure Hyungseo has no problem covering your shift for you.”
“Who‘s Hyungseo?” Yuta asks teasingly.
“The chef who can’t keep his eyes off of our little Y/N here,” Minnie winks at you. “Go on now Y/n, you can go.”
You give her a look before heading to the back to change out of your apron. Before you’re completely out of sight you can hear the group tease the youngest.
“You’re as red as Minnie’s old wash cloth right now.”
“Hey man knock it off.” Minnie replies.
Mark can only turn away, “I’m heading to the restroom.”
On your way out, a voice stops you in your tracks. Sungchan sits in his seat, a milkshake in front of him.
“Sungchan, i’m off the clock if you needed something I could let Minnie know.”
“Huh?” He turns his head to his drink realizing what it looks like to you, “No actually I just wanted to ask you.” He trails off his sentence. You stand there confused waiting for him to continue. “You’re going to be at Yuta’s party right?”
“I don’t really have a choice.”
His laughter is strained, “Well I was wondering if I see you there, would you want to–“
His voice is cut off by the yelling coming from where your group of friends stand. You see that two of the boys have decided to try and race to see who can finish their milkshake first, glad you clocked out before having to deal with that.
“Yeah i’ll see you there,” You say to Sungchan, leaving him to his drink. “I gotta go, enjoy your food.”
He nods giving you a small smile, “Bye Y/N.”
Once you’re home you can’t wait but head straight to the shower. You set the water to warm before stripping and standing directly under the stream of water. The warmth hits you and you let out a sigh, letting the water run down your body and soak into your hair.
Minutes pass of silence, the only sound being the running water. Your eyes are closed as you begin rinsing the remaining shampoo in your hair. You hear the faintest tap of the door, opening your eyes in an instant.
You turn the facet off stepping out of the shower and grabbing your towel, only now realizing your clothes weren’t there.
I swear I brought clothes?
Your heart drops as you begin to hear muffled voices coming from your house. You stand frozen in front of the bathroom door. You can hear your heart thumping as if it’s directly in your ears.
After moments of contemplating you choose to open the door. You follow the voices that are coming from the living room. The TV is on.
“Parents stand here today at the memorial sight with flowers and candles to honor the upcoming five year anniversary of the Vestal Murderer’s victims. The victims–“
You turn off the TV, deciding to ignore it and head back into your room to change into a pajama set.
October 19th
This party is boring. You had chosen to stick by Minnie’s side after experiencing the weirdest phenomenons for the past week. You had about three other times items had been misplaced in your home. You were slowly growing more agitated than anything, so when Minnie suggested you join them in their smoke session you didn’t decline.
You sat in between Minnie and YangYang, opting out of smoking after a single rotation. You weren’t a smoker so three puffs and one coughing fit later you were done for the night.
Your friends sat in a circle, recounting stories to one another. You couldn’t really focus on anything but keeping your eyes open though.
There’s a knock at the door, pulling your attention from the cup in your hands and towards the sound. Jaehyun gets up to get the door, speaking to the man on the other side with a hushed voice. It’s only when you lean to the side that you notice it’s Mark.
You turn over to Minnie by your side, tapping her shoulder to get her attention.
“I want to go get another drink.” Minnie nods her head, letting YangYang know she’s gonna be right back. You both sit up heading towards the door where Jaehyun looks annoyed.
“Is something wrong?” Minnie asks, inserting herself into their conversation.
“Just Johnny stealing our room for the night. He needs some ‘privacy’ for that girl he brought over.” He says rolling his eyes.
You couldn’t help but let out a giggle, it was funny that he was so bothered by something you knew for a fact he was very guilty of.
“You mad you couldn’t book it first?” Minnie jokes.
“Y/N, I thought you left?” Mark questions.
“No, well I was but then Minnie invited me up so,” You let out a breath motioning your hands to the room. “I’m here.”
You can hear laughter from Jaehyun and Minnie who find your current condition hilarious. It only makes you join their cackling. Mark stays watching the three of you very confused.
“Right,” He says slowly. “You guys are leaving now?”
“Just getting a refill.” Minnie brings her cup up showing the emptiness of it.
“You guys getting more drinks? Get me a–“
“Get it yourself.” You knock down Jaehyun before he can finish his sentence. He frowns. “Come on Minnie.” She follows you out the door, leaving the two boys to their own conversation.
You and Minnie stand in the kitchen, well Minnie stands. You’re sat on the counter as she searches the cabinets for more booze. You look over to the living room where you see a mix of unfamiliar and familiar faces engage in a game of Cup Pong.
“Here,” Minnie grabs your attention, handing your cup back to you. You grab it and take a sip, frowning at the taste. “It’s water. God knows you need it.”
You take another sip, setting it down on the counter afterwards. “Thanks.”
“You heard earlier right?” She says, taking a drink out of her own. You cock your head to the side, not picking up what she’s saying. “Siwon was asking what I was doing later tonight and if i wanted to ‘hang’.” She adds quotation marks with her fingers.
If you had the water in your hands you were very sure it would’ve spilled everywhere. “You’re kidding.”
“I wish I was.” Her face full of disgust.
“I too, wish you were.” Yuqi adds from behind you. You jump at her sudden appearance. “When did you get here?”
“Just now. Which reminds me,” She brings herself up onto the counter leaning in to the two of you. “You know that high school kid I told you guys about who joined our club, Minjae?” You both nodded. “He tried putting moves on me.”
Minnie chokes on her drink. Yuqi immediately hitting her back to help her catch her breath. “What the hell is wrong with you.”
“Right now?” You question in disbelief.
“While you two were busy getting stoned.”
Minnie lets out one last cough, “What did you say?”
“Of course not. That’s a kid, I want nothing to do with that.” Yuqi says almost offended that Minnie even had to ask.
“You were a high schooler when you hit on Soyeon.”
“Well yeah, but that’s different. Me and Soyeon were only a year apart. He’s like two years younger.”
Minnie shrugs, “You’re just scared he’s going to get attached if you take his V-Card like you did with Soyeon.”
“Hey,” She hits Minnie’s shoulder, “Next time i’ll let you choke.”
“You remember how you were, puppy eyes always following her around.” Minnie says bringing fists to her cheeks. “You were so cute before you chose to become a heartbreaker.”
Yuqi hits Minnie’s hands off of her. “Do you have a death wish?”
“Ah you’re so mean now.” Minnie whines, “Y/N, when you finally get to bed don’t become like Yuqi.”
“As if that would happen any time soon, guys aren’t exactly all over me. Besides, I want it to be special.” You say bringing your arms to your chest.
Yuqi makes a face at Minnie. The girls sharing a glance you aren’t able to understand.
“What?” You press.
“Don’t worry about guys not being interested in you, worry about the guard dog of yours keeping them from approaching.” Minnie speaks as if it’s an obvious answer.
“What do you mean?”
Before you can press any further a figure approaches your circle. “You guys okay?”
“Never better.” Yuqi smiles, hopping off of the counter.
You face where mark stands. You weren’t able to really take in his appearance earlier but now that he was leaning on the counter, you were able to dissect him as if he were a test subject on a science lab table.
You thought the water was helping sober you up but apparently not enough with the way your brain was making up horrible comparisons.
You couldn’t help the blush on your face as you noticed the outline of muscles on the man’s forearms. He wasn’t even flexing and they were still apparent.
His plain white tee didn’t stop your brain from what your friends would call ‘eye fucking’ the man in front of you. It fit him like a glove, capturing his broad shoulders and his chest the way you wish you could.
“You okay y/n?” He spoke, pulling you out of your trance.
“Uhh, yeah.” You turn to where your friends are smirking at you, reading you easily. “What were we talking about?”
“How it’s pretty late and you should get home soon.”
“And how Mark should probably take you back home.” Minnie adds smoothly.
“Would you be okay with that?” Mark looks over to you.
There’s a brief silence as everyone waits for your answer. You give a tight smile, “Sure.”
“Great, well we have to go.” Yuqi says pulling Minnie with her out of the kitchen, “See you tomorrow Y/N!”
You were lucky the man in front of you was so oblivious to your friend’s actions. You put your arms down to help get you off of the counter the way Yuqi did earlier. A pair of hands find their way around your waist before you can.
“Here let me help you.” Mark pulls you off the counter with no struggle. You can’t help the warmth creeping in your stomach from his grip around you.
“Thanks.” You say, his hands leaving your waist as you stand steady on your own feet. You hope he doesn’t notice the way you can’t look him in the eye. “Let’s go.”
The cool autumn air was enough to sober you up if only by a little. Mark walked silently beside you noticing the way you wrapped your arms around yourself trying to keep warm. You’re too busy thinking about how much longer this walk will be when you feel hands wrapping around your shoulder.
“You were shivering.” He says leaving his jacket on you.
“Thanks.” You mumble, feeling instant relief from the cool air.
You can smell a hint of vanilla on it, his signature cologne. You smile silently to yourself bringing your hands to your mouth to warm them, and to keep him from noticing the faint pink in your cheeks.
“I’m glad I can walk you home, I was a bit worried last time you answered the call sounding panicked.”
You recall the memory. He did sound a bit startled through the phone. “I’m okay, i’m glad you get to walk me home anyway.”
There’s another round of silence. You notice your street in the distance, trying to come up with what to say. He speaks before you’re able to utter a word.
“You look really pretty tonight by the way.”
Your eyebrows shoot up. He realizes how his sentence came off, backtracking his earlier statement. “You always look pretty I mean. I just– You really suit my jacket.”
“I don’t know if I should thank you for the jacket or the compliment.”
“You don’t have to thank me at all, i’m only stating the obvious.”
You look up smiling at him which feels so easy to do whenever he’s around. You notice the beauty marks all over his face and neck, wishing you could analyze them closer.
“That’s my place over there.” You break the silence pointing over to your house. He looks to you, “I’m glad you have arrived safely.”
“I’m glad you could bring me.”
You both are standing face to face for a moment, observing each other and waiting for someone to make the first move. He speaks first.
“I don’t want to hold you in the cold for any longer.”
You reach to take off his jacket, “Oh, here’s your–“
“No need,” he cuts you off. “You pull it off better than I ever have.”
“I beg to differ.” You’re hoping he can take a hint. “But I guess once I wear another clothing item of yours we can see who pulls off your clothes better.”
“Feel free to invite yourself over anytime for access to my wardrobe.”
“Or I can pull this one off you now?” You joke, pulling him closer by his shirt. You’re unsure where your sudden boldness is coming from, perhaps you weren’t completely sober after all.
He leans in closer, staring into your eyes and shifting his gaze to your lips. He was definitely not as dense as you thought. You lean in closer, his fingers grazing your lips.
A sudden noise pulls you guys apart from each other. You look to the ground, embarrassed by how brazen you came off. He reaches into his pocket, grabbing his pager and reading off a message.
“Do you need to go already?”
He lets out heavy sigh as if he was disappointed in the distraction, “Yeah, that was Yuta he wants for me to stay over the night.”
You’re shocked, always having assumed he had stayed with the rest of the frat members. “Oh, I thought you lived there?”
“No, My parents actually got me a place here for my studies so it’s just me.”
“I see, it’s the same for me.” You point again at your home. “Thank you for walking me, please make sure you get back safely.”
“My pleasure, have a nice night Y/N.” He waves his hand as you begin walking towards your home.
“Ditto.” You shout out loud enough for him to hear you as you walk up to your home pulling your key out.
“What did you do!” You let out a gut wrenching scream. The entire floor was painted red, you look down and notice your hands full of blood.
You jump out of your nightmare, sweat lining your body. The house is silent, your alarm clock emitting a red gleam. It reads 4:26am.
You sit in bed rubbing the last of the tiredness in your eyes deciding it’d better to keep yourself awake for a while longer. You get up heading towards your kitchen to grab a glass of water.
As you reach the kitchen you decide to turn the TV on to calm your nerves for the time being. The news is on again. You take a sip out of your water paying half a mind to what is being reported.
“It’s been 48 hours since the disappearance of Jung Sungchan, his parents report he was last seen on October 17.”
Sungchan? He had said he would go to the party when you last saw him just a few days ago. You think back realizing you hadn’t seen him at all tonight. You feel your heart sink, placing your glass down and running to your house phone.
“Hello?” Minnie’s voice comes out hoarse. You can tell you’d just woken her from her sleep but you’re too startled to apologize.
“Sungchan is missing.”
“Huh?”
“He’s gone I just saw on the news they said it’s been days. I’m freaking out I just talked to him on Monday this has to be a joke right?”
“Y/N–“ You can barely hear her over your panicked thoughts.
“This is happening all over again, they’re saying it’s him again.”
You feel your eyes begin to water, “There’s been weird things happening, I hear knocks and my TV turns on all the time for no reason.” “Y/N.”
“Minnie, He was so close before,” You take a breath, “What if I’m next?”
“Y/N!” She yells out causing you to jump. “Relax, you’re okay. Nothing is going to happen.”
You don’t say anything so she continues, “I’m pretty sure I saw Sungchan after you left with Mark okay? Also, those knocks are probably just neighborhood kids. Remember when you said they’d always egg your neighbors around halloween?”
You let out a breath, “Yeah, you’re right.”
“See so there’s nothing to worry about, it’s all in your head cause Yuta kept saying shit. You’re okay and nothing going to happen.”
You realize how stupid you might’ve sounded now. Minnie was right, nothing was wrong until Yuta put all of that into your head. You’re just overthinking it.
“Thank you.” You let out softly.
She gives a sound of acknowledgment, “You know if you ever feel scared, my house is always open to you.”
“It’s fine I think I was just paranoid but i’m okay now.”
“Well just letting you know. Do you want to stay on the phone?”
“No it’s okay, i’ll let you get back to sleep.”
“Make sure you’re getting some sleep too alright?” She yawns. “God knows we need it for tomorrow.”
“Oh crap.” You had forgotten about the annual fundraiser held at the frat house. It was meant to raise money for the victims families of the Vestal Murders. You and your friends had promised to be there. “It totally slipped my mind.”
“If you can’t go don’t sweat it, you have a lot on your plate anyway.”
“No, i’ll be there.”
“Okay well I’ll see you tomorrow. Goodnight Y/N.”
“Night.”
October 20th
After a day of setting up different games for the fundraiser you were able to sit and relax. Yuqi, who’s sitting beside you passes a bottle of coke to you.
“Thanks.” You reply, taking a sip of the drink and setting it down.
“Can’t believe we had to help set up, i just want to go home.”
You give a wry smile, “Yeah i’m pretty exhausted, had a tough time sleeping.” She’s about to respond when someone calls her from the distance. “I’m going!” She turns to face you, “Go, we’re done here anyway.”
She walks away meeting with YangYang at the steps of the house. You close your eyes lying back against the couch you’re on. You can hear voices around you but don’t try enough to make out what they’re all talking about. Footsteps approach you, you open your eyes to see who it is.
“The games haven’t even began and you’re tired already?”
Mark is standing above you, you take in the fitted black shirt he has on. You admire the turtleneck he has on, it really fits him even though it covered his neck moles you loved to stare at.
“I’m only resting, it’s been a long day.”
He hums, taking a seat beside you. “Then i’ll join you, you can use me as a pillow if you’d like.”
You take his offer, lying your head on his shoulder which is much more comfortable than the couch if you were being honest. You close your eyes and feel his hand start to play with your hair, purring at the feeling.
“Yo, you guys gonna just sit there or you wanna join?” Johnny shouts to you and Mark.
You look up at him, still resting your head on him. His face is so close you pull away and get up. “We’re going.” He follows behind you.
You can see a few of your friends lined up to play apple bobbing. You remember how you played once when you were younger, you freaked out and inhaled the water. Inhyuk had to pull you out to stop you from choking.
“You wanna play?” Yuta says, smirking at the two of you.
“Uh I’m good.” You say, looking up at Mark.
“Come on, show them how you use that mouth of yours.” Minnie winks at you from in line.
You shove into her with your forearm, she laughs it off. “Really I’m okay, Mark?”
“Actually mind if I show you something instead?”
“Ohhh, he’s going to show you what his mouth can do.” Yuta mocks, this time he earns a shove from Mark.
You give her a scornful look, “Sure let’s go.”
He holds your hand pulling you from behind him, leading the way. You guys walk past the crowds of people, making your way through the house. You realize he’s taking you to the basement so you speak up.
“Didn’t know you were a smoker, Lee.”
He chuckles, “Not quite.” You both are still hand in hand when he takes you to a corner room in the basement that you hadn’t noticed before.
“What’s this?”
“You’ll see,” He opens the door revealing a room filled with Halloween candy and a blanket on the floor. You look around noticing the TV in the room with VHS tapes of different movies laid out on the floor. “Do you like it?”
You look up at Mark seeing how he’s awaiting your answer. You pull him in for a hug, squealing in delight.
“This is so sweet.”
“Minnie told me you had been having a rough time, thought this might cheer you up.” He smiles, “Did it work?”
“It did more than work. Mark, thank you.” You look up at him, holding his gaze for a moment. You’re both only an inch from each other, you look at his lips wondering how soft they’d feel on yours.
His voice comes out rough, “We should watch a movie, yeah?” though he makes no effort to step away from you.
You take a look at him, his eyes won’t leave your mouth so you move in closer. “We can always watch later.”
He lets out a chuckle before pulling you in for a kiss. His lips feel so soft on yours, it’s everything and more than you had imagined. It’s rough and possessive, stealing your breath right from your mouth.
He bites onto your lip earning a moan from your lips, you pull away embarrassed by the noise you’d let out. “I’m sorry I don’t know why I did that.”
He lets out a breathless laugh, “Don’t apologize, I love those sounds from you.” He pulls you in again, the kiss becoming even heavier than before.
You can feel his tongue trace the bottom of your lips asking permission to deepen the kiss. You accept, beginning to explore his own mouth. You bite his lip, earning a groan from him, you thought that might be the sexiest noise you’d ever heard before.
He grabs onto your cheek with one hand and your waist with the other. “Fuck, Y/N. You’re so perfect you know that?” You can barely respond before he begins to pull you in once more.
“Mark,” You plead breathlessly, pulling away from him. “I need to tell you something.”
He hums, beginning to kiss down your neck. You squirm at the feeling. “I haven’t– Fuck. I’ve never done this before.”
He slowly pulls away from you, confusion evident on his face. “Oh.” He can tell how embarrassed you feel admitting it so he adds promptly. “We don’t have to do anything. I’m not going to force you to do anything I just thought a movie would be nice.”
You find his distressed state amusing, “I– yeah that’s fine.”
He smiles, about to put a movie in when you hear a knock from the door.
“Y/N, we gotta go. Yuqi’s parents want her home already.” Minnie appears at the door.
You nod remembering the plans you guys had made to hang out after the fundraiser. Fuck, you wished you could stay with Mark for longer, especially considering how much effort he’d put into spending time with you.
“Yeah, okay i’ll be right there.” You say a little breathlessly, hoping she doesn’t notice it. She gives you an all knowing smile as she closes the door, “Be quick.”
You frown at the fact that you have to leave early, Mark quickly comes to your defense. “Hey it’s okay, we can save it for next time.” He puts his hands on your shoulder pulling you for a hug.
“I wish I didn’t have to leave.” You pout.
He laughs, finding you adorable. “I wish you didn’t have to go either, but we have plenty of time together, right?”
You nod, “Right. I’ll see you next time okay?”
“Get home safely y/n.” You head for the door before stopping in your tracks and turning around. Mark looks confused until you pull him in once more for a short and sweet kiss.
“Goodbye Mark.” You say pulling away and leaving out the door.
“Naughty naughty girl, y/n.” Minnie tsks, tapping her finger over your head.
You push her hand away. “Shut up, let’s go.”
She laughs following you close behind.
“I still don’t know why my parents felt the need to be party poopers, they could’ve asked the neighbor to feed that damn dog.” Yuqi complains.
Minnie gasps, “I love Haku!”
“Whatever, Oh there it is!” Yuqi, says pointing down at Phantom Halloween Store.
Your friends race down to get there first, you choose to continue walking instead. There’s a TV store to the right showing a news report.
“There’s been yet another disappearance reported since a body was discovered earlier today. Police have not made a comment on the identity of the individual or what another disappearance could mean for the town of Lucville. The public demands answers. Could it be possible that the Vestal Murderer is back for another halloween or a copy cat killer has taken his place?”
“Y/N!” Yuqi’s voice calls after you from ahead. “You coming?”
You choose to ignore the rest of the report, “Im going!”
“I think this would look great on you.”
“Cat Woman?” Minnie raises her eyebrow.
“You’d look really sexy, that’s what halloweens all about, right y/n!”
“Exactly, come on Minnie, you gonna finally try and get the attention of Yuta?”
She scowls at the both of you, snatching the suit out of Yuqi’s hands. “I’m trying it on, that’s all. No promises.”
“Yesh right, you’ll rock it anyway.” You both tease her as she steps into the dressing room.
“So y/n, what are you dressing as?” Yuqi asks.
“I don’t know i’ll probably just dress as is.”
She looks as if you ate her dog, “It’s halloween. A costume is a must. No ifs or buts!”
“You think rhyming is going to help me change my mind?” You raise an eyebrow at her, minding your business looking through the masks.
“What about Mark,” You stop in your tracks, feigning a cough. “What about him?”
“Don’t you wanna do more than just make out in the basement of a frat house?”
You roll your eyes, “Minnie told you.”
“Yeah well i’m offended you didn’t!” She retorts. “If you want to impress him then you have got to dress up.”
You sigh, halloween costumes weren’t really your thing, but you didn’t want to stick out like a sore thumb being the only one not dressed up.
Yuqi smirks knowing she’s got to you. “Who knows,” she shrugs, “Maybe he will end up killing your virginity.”
Your ears go red, “Yuqi!” Her eyes go wide, stepping away from you. “Why are you so loud! Do you know how embarrassing you are?”
“Please spare me okay!” She yelps as you grab onto her shirt.
“Wow y/n I didn’t take you for a bully.” Johnny’s deep voice sounds from behind you both. You let go of Yuqi, allowing for her to fix her shirt.
“You make it a habit of stalking us?”
“Ah yes, cause we came here purely to track your group of friends down.” Yuta remarks sarcastically, “A halloween store, when it’s is less than a week away.”
“We came here to look for some last minute decorations.” Mark comments before you and Yuta can begin your bickering.
“We’re here for costumes, Y/N here has got the perfect one planned.” Yuqi states, her arm sneaking around your shoulder.
“Really? What is it?” Mark looks to you.
“It’s a surprise!” Yuqi squeaks out. You’re thankful for it because you wouldn’t have known what to say at all.
“Good, you should show us at the Halloween party we’re throwing this weekend.” Johnny utters, reaching into his pocket. He pulls an invitation flier to the party, passing it to you. “It’s a costume party so make sure you’re all there.”
“All of you.” Yuta adds, “Speaking of, where’s your third?”
At that moment Minnie walks out of the dressing room. The latex suit wraps around her body hugging her figure, the mask is on too bringing out her natural cat eyes, and in her hand she grips a whip as a signature weapon.
“So do you guys think–“ the words die on her tongue. She freezes looking at the group in front of her, one of them being Yuta.
“You wanna be my dominatrix Minnie?” Yuta jests.
She turns red at his comment and closes the dressing room door, hiding behind it.
“We’ll be there.” You say.
October 30th
It felt like Halloween had came early, there were piles of candies and treats left all over the kitchen counter as well as a punch bowl you were eighty percent sure was spiked. The blood moon stood bright in the night and true its name, painting the dark sky red.
You had just arrived no longer than ten minutes ago and your friends had already happened to disappear out of sight. You made your way to the counter grabbing a red solo cup to serve yourself the blood colored punch.
“You actually want to drink that?” Mark’s voice startles you, causing you to drop the ladle back into the punch.
“Well I guess not.”
“Sorry, I didn’t think you’d get scared.” He says, his hands going up in defense.
“It’s fine, i’ll just take a beer.” You reach for the refrigerator.
“You look beautiful,” He states, “Carrie right?”
You look down at the silk champagne colored dress you have on. “Yeah, did the crown give it away?”
“More so the blood on the costume but the crown too.”
You let out a giggle, “And you, Michael Myers?” You say almost as a question.
“Ding Ding Ding! I had my mask earlier but Yuta insisted on letting him borrow it for the time being, something about prancing the neighborhood kids?”
“Wow, he really is a menace. Is it bad i’m glad i’m not the target of his pranks though?”
He laughs, “I mean it is trick or treat right? The kids shouldn’t be that mad.”
You smile at him, he was always so playful with his words. You felt as if he understood you in ways not any other person could. You couldn’t stop your mind from remembering the kiss you both shared not too long ago.
He opened his mouth but no words came out. You felt a surge of boldness in the moment so you decided to speak for him.
“So Mark Myers, you wanna head back to the basement and finish what we started?”
You never could get used to the way he kissed you. He was always so quiet it was shocking to see this side of him. The one that was almost starving for your lips.
You sat on his lap, legs wrapped around his waist, his hands gripping your hips on him. You pulled away to take a breath, his lips attaching themselves to your throat.
“Fuck– Mark.” You groan, his mouth beginning to sprinkle bruises all over your neck. He kisses behind your ear, causing you to involuntarily grind your hips down.
He gasps at the sudden contact, “You’re driving me crazy.”
You let out a moan, continuing to grind your hips down.
You whine, the fabric in between you both making it hard for you to feel relief.
“Y/N baby,” He stops your movements with his hands on your hips. “ I don’t want to push you to do anything but you’re really making it hard.”
“You’re not pushing anything. I want this, I want you.”
“Fuck– I can’t hold you back.”
“Then don’t.” You say, pulling him in for another deep kiss. He kisses into your mouth, his tongue exploring you. You moan into the kiss beginning to build up the pace of your hips, his bulge growing as you continue to work yourself onto him.
“I feel so close.” You let out eagerly.
“Come on baby, come for me.” He begins to force your hips down, building more friction to your heat.
You can feel your high approaching rapidly, gripping onto his shoulders tight, your nails digging into his skin. He hisses at the feeling, you let out a weak apology.
“It’s okay, just be a good girl and finish, yeah?”
His words are enough to bring you to the edge. You feel your legs shake as your orgasm takes over your entire body. You bite down on his shoulder, trying to keep from screaming at the euphoric sensation.
He helps you ride out your orgasm until your body begins shaking with aftershocks. He lifts your face to look at him, his features soft. “How are you feeling?”
You can’t help but pull him in for another kiss, he’s shocked but returns it. You pull away looking up at him, pupils dilated and your voice coming out shy, “I want more.”
“Are you sure?” He asks slowly.
You nod your head, “Please.”
He hums, lifting you off of him so he can get up to check his counter for protection. You sit on the mattress waiting for him to find it, growing shyer as the seconds pass.
“I’ll go check upstairs for one, I’m sure Yuta’s got some lying around.” He states, “I’ll be back quickly okay?”
You nod your head, he steps out of the room to go look. You lift the blanket to cover your face, realization of the events hitting you. You were glad nobody was in the room so you could have time to blush over how good you felt.
You heard foot steps approach the door, assuming Mark had found Yuta’s pack of condoms. “Come in!”
Mark opens the door, looking tense. “We gotta go, police showed up crashing the party. Everyone has to leave.”
You both make it to your front door, out of breath for semi running the entire trip home. His hand never left yours throughout the trip and it doesn’t leave yours now. You can’t help but fidget with his fingers that youve only now noticed are so much bigger than yours.
“I wonder what tipped them off.” You say referring to the way the police had shut down the party.
“Something about a curfew, no parties for the time being.” He shrugs. “Listen y/n.”
Your fingers don’t stop tracing his palm as you await his sentence. “How about we hang out soon like a date?”
“Oh!” Your hands stop, taken aback by his unabashed state.
He continues, linking his hand into your own. “I’m more than just interested in you, and i’d like to show you that.”
You offer a measly smile. “I’d really like that.”
His answer’s coy. “Great, I’ll see you next time then yeah?”
You nod, he releases your hand beginning to walk away. “Bye Mark.”
“Goodnight Y/N.”
You ran into your home closing the door behind you hoping he didn’t notice your bashfulness as you bid him farewell. You bite your lip to calm yourself down, letting out a squeal of excitement.
A ring coming from the kitchen pulls you out of your cheerful state. You head towards the phone picking it up as it’s on the last ring.
“Yuqi? Minnie? DId you guys get home safe?”
The line is silent until you make out a strangled scream through the phone. You instantly drop it, beginning to panic. You hear muffled wheezing through the phone, choosing to pick it up again.
“Who the fuck is this? Is this the same number as before?” Your voice comes out horror-struck. “What the fuck do you want.”
The voice comes out restrained, “You.”
The line goes dead. You hear a knock on the door, grabbing a knife from the counter top and hugging it to your chest. The knocking gets louder, the doorknob twisting.
“Please just leave me alone!” You cry out.
“Y/N, it’s me. Please just open the door.” Marks voice rings out.
You run towards the door unlocking it and letting him in. He picks the knife out of your hands tossing it to the side and pulling you into his arms. You aren’t sure when you began hysterically crying but his embrace helped soothe you.
“What happened baby, talk to me.” You take in a breath, looking over to the phone.
“They won’t stop calling. I don’t know who it is or what they want from me.” You struggle to speak.
“Hey hey it’s okay.” He holds onto you tighter, “I’m here okay?”
Your sobs dwindle, your breathing becoming more steady.
“Do you want me to stay?” He asks.
You shake your head, “I don’t want to be here, not right now.”
He contemplates for a moment, “Would you want to stay at my place for tonight then?”
You nod your head, wiping your tears from your face.
“Please.”
You take in the place, it’s empty besides the couch and TV in the living room and a few plants scattered around. The house smells oddly clean, which wasn’t something you expected from a college man but you weren’t going to complain.
“You can take a seat i’ll get you a water.” He says pointing at the velvet couch in the corner of the living room.
“Thank you.” You smile, taking a seat. It’s pretty comfortable for being a living room couch, you decide you can stick to sleeping there tonight. Leaving early tomorrow so you won’t cause any disturbance.
You look to the wall, a clock hangs on it reading 2:30am. You wonder if Yuqi or Minnie made it home earlier, hoping that none of them ended up in a jail cell tonight.
Mark appears in front of you, a glass of water in his hand. “Here you go,” He offers. You accept the glass taking it out of his hands.
He takes a seat next to you, offering some distance so you can sit comfortably. You chug down half of the water, setting it down beside you onto the floor.
“Do you want to tell me what happened?” He asks with a soft tone as if to not scare you.
“It’s everything I said before, I just feel very paranoid these days.” You shake your head, “I keep getting this weird feeling, I feel like someone’s been stalking me.”
His eyes go wide, “Do you know who?”
You let out a sigh, “I haven’t seen anyone, I just feel in my gut like something bad is going to happen if it hasn’t already.” He remains silent allowing you space to explain.
“I never told anyone this, but I keep having like a weird sense of deja vu. I remember so clearly that around this time five years back there was always this same feeling, like I was being followed or watched in every corner.”
You release a shaky breath, “I don’t know why but I think this person whoever he is. I feel like he wants me next.”
Mark breaks his silence, “The Vestal killer?”
“I think so.”
“That can’t be the case right? The police said he must’ve disappeared when he could after the murders right?”
You shrug, “I don’t know if that’s true. All I know is someone has been using me as a pawn in their game for the past weeks.”
“You’re right,” He responds. “Do you want to talk to Yuqi or Minnie maybe? Maybe they might have had the same feeling?”
You nod in agreement, “Yeah okay, can I borrow your phone please?”
“Of course, it’s in my room first door to your left.” You thank him before heading through the hallway into his room.
You pick up the phone beginning to dial in Yuqi’s number, there’s no answer. You try giving another attempt this time to Minnie’s number, she doesn’t pick up. You opt for sending a message to Minnie’s pager, glad you happened to remember to carry yours with you tonight.
911.
You hear Mark’s footsteps approaching, opening the door to check on you.
“None of them picked up, i’m hoping they’re not in jail or something.”
Mark chuckles, “I doubt it, I got a call from Yuta. He ran out with Minnie before the cops showed up.”
“Wow, glad to know they were having fun while shit hit the fan.” You reply sarcastically.
“They wouldn’t be the only ones.” Mark teases, referring to the events that took place between the two of you moments before the party was crashed.
You blush at the memory. “I don’t believe I recall, mind reminding me?”
He offers a coy smile, approaching you slowly. “You sure you don’t remember?” He closes the distance between you two, his arms locking you in between him and the counter.
Like muscle memory, you wrap your legs around his waist, pulling him closer. “Not at all, You going to try and jog my memory?”
He contemplates for a moment, “I’ll make sure you don’t forget again.” He says before leaning in for a brutal kiss.
His mouth tastes sweet, youd guess it’s from the halloween candy you noticed on his counter earlier. You grip his arms pulling him closer to lick and taste all over his mouth.
His arms find their way around your waist pulling you even closer to him if that’s possible. You begin to feel the growing bulge against you, disconnecting yourself from the kiss to suck on his neck instead.
He lets out a gasp, feeling your hands find their way down to his bulge and palming it through his pants.
“Fuck– I thought you said you’d never done this before.”
“I haven’t.”
He pulls in closer to your neck, whispering directly into your ear. “Then how is it that you’re already so perfect for me.”
You suck in a breath, your neck sensitive to his touch. He takes advantage of your position, biting down into your neck. It’s not enough to draw blood but enough to get you to release a moan.
He pulls your dress from off of you, your body shivering from the exposed air. “You’re beautiful.” He says, pulling you in for another kiss.
Your body feels on fire, the pleasure is only building up making you want more. You undo his belt, your hand pushing into his pants to grab onto his dick.
He lets out a groan, pulling you up from the counter and onto his bed instead. He pulls away, lying you down on the flat surface. “Tell me now if you don’t want to go any further.”
There’s no way in hell you were going to stop anytime soon. “Let’s finish what we started.”
He took his shirt off, and you took in a breath. His body was toned, his chest and collarbones looked perfect to leave bruises and bites all over.
“Take them off.” He growled. You began to unclasp your bra, your chest falling free. He falls to his knees, tugging your legs closer to him. His head in between your thighs.
You can feel his breath on your cunt, “Fuck baby your pussy is soaking already.”
You gasp, feeling his knuckle begin to trace your slit. “Markie please.” You plead for him to touch.
“Please what baby? Use your words.”
“Please touch me.”
The second the words leave your lips, you feel his mouth on you. You yelp, his mouth connecting straight to your clit, sucking onto it roughly. He eats you out with the same harshness he kisses you with. You can’t complain though, not when his mouth makes you feel like you’ve reached the gates of heaven.
The wet sound of him eating you out only adds to your arousal. You can’t help but squirm, his arms keep you from moving too much though. “Careful baby, i’m trying to feed here.”
His tongue begins fuck into your pussy, pulling a loud moan from you. You cover your mouth to muffle the sounds as much as possible. He pulls away, you whine at the loss of contact.
“Don’t hide your noises, I want to hear how loud you get when I make you cum.” You uncover your mouth as he gets back to work, this time focusing on sucking your clit. Your hips roll feeling your orgasm fast approaching.
“Markie please don’t stop” You beg.
You feel two fingers slide into your pussy, the stretch feels so good. You roll your hips chasing your climax. The stimulation from his fingers penetrating you leave you breathless. You repeat his name over and over like a mantra.
“Markie please I want to cum. Please let me cum.”
With one last thrust of his fingers and a suck on your clit you reach your high, your eyes seeing white. He draws out your orgasm, stopping only when you hiss at the overstimulation.
You let out a breath, looking him in his eyes as he begins to undresses himself. He grabs the condom from the drawer and pulls his cock out of his boxers.
You can’t help but stare right at him, your mouth watering at the sight of his long and thick cock. There was a large vein that ran through it, his tip glowing red. You weren’t experienced but you’d seen films before, and his looked like one straight out of a porno.
He gives it a few pumps before tearing open the packaging and wrapping it around his shaft. “We’re not done yet.”
You feel him lay over you, lining his cock with your entrance. He looks to you before pushing inside, “Are you ready?” You nod. “Yes.”
He pushes himself into you, taking breaks in between to help you catch your breath. “Relax baby, god you’re so fucking tight.”
His dick looked big, but it felt even larger. You felt a slight pain as he slowly pushed himself fully in. “Fuck– Mark you’re so big.”
“It’s okay baby, it’s almost fully inside.” You nod your head, your eyes closing wishing for him to just get on with it.
His dick pushes inside you once again pulling a gasp from you. You swear you can feel it in your stomach.
“That’s it baby.” You open your eye to look down and see his hips connecting to yours, he’s bottomed out. He tests a small thrust and you let out a moan.
“Markie, you can fuck me already.” Your words are enough to snap him back into his lustful self. He starts a slow and steady pace, thrusting into you.
You let out a few noises, tears beginning to line your eyes. He notices, wiping your face with his hand. “Please kiss me.” He leans into you, kissing you gently.
You close your eyes into the kiss, feeling his lips suck your own. You pull away, a moan escaping your lips once he hits your sweet spot. “There– right there.”
He quickens his pace, pistoling his cock attacking your g-spot. Your legs wrapping around his waist, to keep him from pulling any further away from you.
“I’m close–“ You let out, his thrusts getting quicker and stronger.
“Me too.” He groans. His fingers slipping to your sensitive bud, rubbing circles making you scream in pleasure. With the next few thrusts you feel your body convulse, clenching down on him. Your nails scratch down his arms, he hisses at the sting. You reach your second climax of the night, your legs shaking from the aftershocks.
He lets out growl, the feeling of your climax triggering his own. With one last thrust, he’s finishing into the condom. He pulls out of you, you let out a whine at the feeling.
He disposes of the condom, pulling a blanket over the both of you and wrapping his arms around your body.
“I don’t think I can work my legs anymore.” You joke, closing your eyes and catching your breath.
He laughs and pulls you in closer, “That’s okay, you’re all mine now so you have no use for them anyway.”
You let out an awkward laugh. His joke coming out a bit empty. You have no time to comment on it before you feel your eyes begin to shut on their own.
You wake up the next morning bed empty. You remember the events of last night, pulling the covers over your head to hide your embarrassment. The shower is running from what sounds like the room over.
Mark is showering, I should probably go join him.
You smile to yourself and try getting up from the bed, your legs wobbly.
Oh fuck.
You slowly and carefully try walking out of the room, finding the TV on from the living room.
“After days of searching, two bodies have been found early this morning by Velvet lake. No suspects have been identified as of now, though police have said a mask was found at the crime scene.” You inhale sharply at the mask on the TV.
No, it can’t be.
“Halloween festivities have began despite police efforts to ensure proper curfew. The mask found, one of Michael Myers, will be hard to trace back, as the costume happens to be a popular one.”
You stand frozen, hearing the words repeat in your head.
There’s no way it was Mark, he was here the whole time last night.
“This just in, the bodies are presumed to be missing persons Jung Sungchan and Choi Minjae. They were discovered only an hour ago, police reporting it’s possible they could’ve just missed the killer.”
Your breath catches in your throat. Mark woke earlier than you, is it possible he’s showering now to get rid of the evidence. You begin to slowly make your way towards the bedroom to make a phone call.
You dial Minnie, praying to any god that she picks up. There’s no answer. You let out a frustrated sigh, redialing to try and see if it’ll work this time.
Come on Minnie, pick up.
The shower stops. You panic, leaving the phone on the counter and slowly stepping out of the room to leave the house. It’s as you turn the corner that you hear a click from another room.
You turn to the room on the right, finding the door slightly ajar and squeezing through it. You hear another sound of clicking coming from below the steps.
You tiptoe down the steps, finding the room filled with field tools and rope scattered everywhere. It isn’t until you turn the corner that your eyes are filled with horror.
You spot a familiar figure tied to a chair, repeatedly hitting his watch against the seat making a clicking noise. You let out a gasp, his eyes finding your own in pure terror.
Hyungseo? What the fuck was he doing here tied up.
You head over to him pulling the rope from his mouth. “Y/N you have to leave now.”
“What are you talking about.” You whisper, beginning to untie his hands.
“He is insane. You have to leave now it’s not safe.”
“I’m not going to leave you here for yourself.” You dismiss his words. “Come on we’re going.”
His hands are tied with a rope, you lean down to try and undo the knot, not finding success in tugging. “Y/N?” You hear from upstairs. Your eyes go wide at his voice calling you.
You stand, putting a finger over your mouth gesturing for Hyungseo to keep silent. In the corner of your eye you notice the wall of tools again, grabbing a sickle from off of it.
You can hear Mark’s footsteps closely approaching. You cover your mouth and hold in your breath hoping he doesn’t notice you. The door closes from up the stairs. You take in a breath before standing from your hiding place.
“There you are.” His voice comes out from behind you. You jump walking backwards as he steps forward. “Was looking all over for you little fox.”
You can barely let out any words, “What the fuck is this. Why is Hyungseo here.”
He looks genuinely appalled at your question, “What do you mean what is this? It’s all for you.”
“What?” You speak in a whisper.
“I did this for you.” He says stepping closer. “These guys are nothing compared to you, their perverted minds thinking they could ever please you the way you need.”
You hit the wall, sucking in a breath as his hand cups your face. “You’re so pure y/n I had to make sure they wouldn’t get in the way of that.”
His thumb traces your lips, you turn your face away. “That’s not what I want. You’re hurting innocent people.”
“It’s what you need y/n. It’s a shame you can’t see that.”
He pulls away, grabbing onto your wrist that’s holding the sickle. He takes it from your grip throwing it off to the side. “Was that for me? You think i’d let that happen?”
“Leave me alone,” You feel a tear roll down your cheek. “Please.”
“Hey,” He wipes your face. “I’m not going to hurt you baby. I’m protecting you.”
He walks over to where Hyungseo sits, “From him.” He pulls a knife from his pocket, “These fuckers.”
“Don’t hurt him please. Come on let’s talk about this.” You step to the side, closer to the tools on the wall.
“There’s nothing to talk about y/n. He doesn’t deserve to even breathe your air.” He drags the knife against Hyungseo’s throat. You hear the man cry out from fear.
“These men surround themselves around you hoping for a chance to take you for themselves.” He punctures his arm, Hyungseo screaming from the injury.
“Mark stop.” You grab a screwdriver from the wall, hiding it behind your back. “Please just let him go, I’ll stay with you just don’t hurt anyone else.”
He stops, looking into your eye. “I’m not asking for you to stay with me forever, that’d be unfair to you.” He frowns stepping closer to you, “I love you y/n. I’m doing this for your own good.”
You shake your head, “You’re doing this because you’re fucking insane.” He lets out a cold laugh, “If that’s what you think so be it, but I know what you need.”
“You don’t know shit.” You say, grabbing the screwdriver from your pocket and shoving it through his abdomen.
“Fuck–“ He grips his side, you push him away running to where Hyungseo sits, cutting him free from the rope. “You want to play it like this? Really babe.”
“Fuck you, i’m not your babe.” He grabs onto your hair pulling you closer to him with one hand. “I already did.”
You knock your elbow into his wound, escaping from his hold as soon as his hand lets you go. “Hurry.” Hyungseo says from up the stairs, grabbing onto your hand and helping you run up further.
You both run through the hallway, Mark close behind. “You have to go. I’ll call for help.”
“I’m not going to leave you here.”
“Go,” You warn him sternly, “I’ll hold him back.”
“I’ll look for help.” He says before running out of the door. You pick up the phone from his room dialing 911. The phone line is dead.
“You really think i’m that stupid to leave the phone connected?” You jolt from his sudden appearance. “Just leave it alone y/n if we leave now we will catch him in time. His leg is pretty bruised he won’t be able to make it so far.”
“Don’t do this please.”
“I think i’ve told you already, I’m doing this for your own good.”
His hands smoother your face, the blood left on them transferring to your face. “That’s exactly why I got rid of Sungchan, he strayed too close. He knew you were mine and yet he couldn’t hold himself back so I had to take him out.”
“No.” You cry.
“And Jihoon, he was all you ever looked at. You were falling right into his trap, into his temptations.”
“Then what about Minjae, huh?” You yell out, “He never wanted me he wanted Yuqi.”
His smile was deranged, “Honestly he was just fucking annoying.”
You shake your head, tears streaming down your face. Your body shaking in fear. “You’re evil.”
“I’m your executioner.” He looks into your eyes. There’s no more of that sweet Mark you knew before. His entire being is unhinged. He hears a sound coming from the front door, becoming distracted for a second.
You take that moment to reach for the lamp on the desk and breaking it on his head, setting yourself free from his hold. He’s stunned for a moment as you run towards the kitchen grabbing a knife from the counter.
“Get away from me!” You scream out, he stands in front of you, his head bleeding from the hit he took. “Put the knife down.”
You shake your head, “I said get away!” He puts his hands up. “Y/n you’re acting crazy, put the knife down.”
“I’m crazy?” You scream, “You’ve killed people.”
He ignores you, stepping closer. “Which is exactly why I know, you don’t have it in you. So just drop the knife.”
You pause for a moment, frozen in fear. He takes that chance to reach for your hand and grab the knife out of it. What he doesn’t realize is that you are quicker than you seem, you dodge his movement stabbing the knife through his back.
He turns slowly, blood dripping from his mouth. “Fuck, you always were smarter than anyone ever took you for.” He drops to the floor, unconscious giving you the time to run out of the house.
You’re running with blood all over your clothes. The knife is still in your hand, piercing through your palms but even the sting isn’t enough to shake off the adrenaline in your body. You can hear voices calling out to you but you can’t stop running.
It isn’t til you feel a pair of hands grabbing onto you that you stop running. “Y/N.” You break out of your thoughts, your brother’s voice stopping you in your tracks.
“Inhyuk,” You let out a shaky breath. “What are you doing here.”
“I came here as soon as I heard, you need to calm down okay? We’re here to help you.”
You look around noticing the police and paramedics parked outside of the house. Some making their way towards you already. You look at your brother finally caving into his hold and sobbing into his shoulder.
“It’s okay, I’m here.”
“Did he mention any other victims?” You shake your head, the officer had been asking you questions for the past fifteen minutes but you could barely answer. You sat on the back of the ambulance, the paramedics checking you to make sure you had no major injuries.
Hyungseo was rushed to the hospital already, they said his injuries could be fatal if not treated quickly. You had a feeling he was going to be okay though.
There was no word on the state of Mark, and you weren’t sure if you even wanted to know. It was hard enough to face the officer right now. “Can you give her a moment, she can always head to the station if she had any more details.” You hear your brother’s voice interject the officer.
“Oh yes, of course.” He steps away from the two of you walking over to where the sheriff stands. You were thankful for Inhyuk’s help, the last thing you needed was to be reminded of the amount of victims Mark had killed all for you.
“Mom just got here, i’m going to go talk to her okay?” You nod, “I’ll be right back.” He says, still very worried about your condition.
“You’re okay. You might experience some soreness and pain but your blood pressure is fine.” The paramedic says while removing the cuff around your arm. “I’ll give you a moment to yourself.”
He walks always leaving you alone. Your breaths become less frantic, you look up from your hands and into the house in front of you. You remember the way you’d fought Mark off, the police wondering how it was that you’d been able to escape with little to no injuries.
You didn’t have it in you to explain everything. Not the way he had told you that you were his motive for killing, or the way you’d had to stab him multiple times before running out successfully.
There’d be a time for when you’d come clean about everything, and you were fine with that. Except for one.
You had felt a rush the moment you stabbed him with the screwdriver. It was different from any adrenaline rush, no this was a rush of excitement. Then the second time, when you saw him drop to the floor, his eyes rolling into his head unconscious, you’d felt it again.
You enjoyed the way his warm blood dripped down your hands, the way he let in a sharp inhale the second you punctured his back. You loved the way it felt to see him half dead on the ground, and that was something you’d be taking to the grave.

"Human Kim's mate is dead?!" cries Calis.
"What?! Kim has a mate?!" cries Max
"She is your comrade! How did you not know she has-had a mate?!?"
"But what about Fenrir-wait is Fenrir dead???"
"Human Kim had her bonding band before courting Fenrir, I'm talking about her other mate."
"She's cheating?? Fenrir is the other man...orc???"
"Do humans not have multiple mates?"
"I mean...not usually no...but wait lets back up a minute. How do you know Kim's mate is dead and what do you mean by bonding band, do you mean a ring that goes on a finger?"
"I cannot believe you, her comrade of 5 years, have not noticed her longing rubbing her ankle. How she no longer has the bright orange band on her left ankle. How she looks at her communication device...phone? and looks at what I guess is a photo."
"...wait the orange band? Made out of fabric? Like string?"
"So you have noticed, why have you not consoled her then??"
"...hold on a sec. I'll be back in a moment."
"Are you getting her? Bring her to the command room then, we shall have something for her."
"....how many people think her mate is dead!?"
.
"Why are we going to the command room?"
"Just keep walking. I have a question for you but I need you to answer in front of a lot of people."
"Ookay?" the humans enter the command room and see it decorated dark and somber. Friends and close co-workers are there dressed in black or their respective mourning attire. Calis steps forward.
"Hu-Kim...Kim we are so very sorry for the loss of your mate...may they join the galaxy as a brilliant star and may you both reunite someday in the great beyond..." They slowly grab her five fingered hand with their four fingered hand.
"...If anything were to happen to Gala...I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through. If there's anything you need, anything at all, just ask."
"...Calis...thank you so much...but I don't have a mate?"
"That's what I was saying!" exclaims Max. "If she did then she would've told me, her work best friend!!"
"...but the band on your ankle and your sadness?"
"...Kay I did not notice that but yeah what's up? You alright?" he turns to his short friend
"Ohhh, you mean my friendship anklet?"
"Friend-ship anklet? ...not a bonding band?"
"It was made by my best friend, no offense Max, on Earth the last time I saw her in person 'bout...almost 2 years ago? Anyways it finally fell off since its string and I just miss having it."
"None taken."
"So no one died? She's still alive?"
"Yeah, I just texted her yesterday about the anklet and she said she'll just tattoo one on me cause it'll ward off Max...no offense Max...she just can't accept that I have more than one best friend."
"Again none taken...wait is this the friend who hated you at first and you didn't know so you kept being friendly to her until eventually she accepted you and you've been best friends for like almost 10 years?"
"She...hated you?"
"Oh yeah, she thought I was really annoying but I'm pretty dense so I just kept being nice and going to eat lunch with her throughout high school until after like...2-3 months she gave up and accepted my friendship. Oh! and I didn't know any of this until like this year." she grins
"That's a beautiful friendship right there...makes me jealous about how boringly we met and bonded over anime and musicals."
"On most planets beings would maul you over your annoyance...would you like some of the cake we got you before we knew no one died?"
"Yes please! Also thank you everybody but sadly...and luckily no one died!!" she calls out to the dozen or so aliens and humans in the command room.
"...wait you thought I was having an affair with Fenrir!?" cries a horrified Kim
"That's what I was saying!!" screams Max
#humans are space orcs#humans are space oddities#humans in space#the adventures of kim and max running a space child centre#I just came back from staying over at my best friends house for like a week#and as soon as I came back the anklet she crocheted onto me finally came off after like almost 2 years#my ankle feels naked#but luckily I still have the little gravity falls pinetree tattoo she gave me right where the anklet was#also Max and Kim are a mix of me and my two best friends#near 10 year bestie and 5 year bestie#10 does not like it when I say that I have two best friends#she gets jealous easily and it makes me and him laugh

Superhuman stamina
Pairing: Miguel O'Hara x female reader
Summary: The dangers of dating a man with superhuman stamina is that it's going to leave you sore.
Content: Miguel is a demanding menace. Overstimulation. Multiple orgasm. Squirting.
Word Count: 1.4k
Astroboot’s Masterlist | Spiderverse Masterlist
The thing about dating a man that has been genetically imprinted with the DNA of a spider is that one of the side-effects of such an occurrence means he has superhuman stamina.
It's something Miguel had told you in the early days of your relationship, listing out this characteristic as just another facet of his personality, much in the way someone would say that they're a Virgo on their Tinder profile.
You hadn't thought much of it at the time, too distracted by the list of characteristics that preceded it: retractable talons? telescopic night vision? ORGANIC WEBBING?!
In retrospect, that was naïve. The talons don't really affect your day to day. They do come out when Miguel's emotional state is particularly elevated, which has lead to incidents. Like that time you had to replace your new purchased armchair, when you were on top and post-sex your new armchair looked like it had been mauled by an escaped zoo lion.
The telescopic night vision? Incredibly convenient at night when there's a blackout and you need to find your cell phone.
And the webbing... the less said about that the better, really.
But now that you've dated as long as you have, the superhuman stamina, you realize is by far the one that has the most profound consequences on your life.
At the time you hadn't realized that those enhanced attributes weren't limited to aerial battles against the latest villain of the week when he was fighting mutant lizards, or rhino men. It also haunts you in the privacy of your bedroom.
Because this is what happens when you date a man with superhuman stamina: You'll often oversleep and barely make it on time to work. On most days you've lost your voice. You'll be sore a lot.
And the thing about dating Miguel specifically is that the man is stubborn, relentless, demanding and that too extends into your bedroom.
"Fuck, Miguel, I can't."
"'Course you can, nena, look at how well you're taking me," he says as he stares down at the space between your legs where you and him join. Where you're spread snugly around him. Where his thick cock, slick with you both, disappears into your cunt then re-emerges.
It's wet. It's messy, the sheets beneath you soaked and sticky, from the last three (four?) rounds. As snug of a fit his thick cock is inside you, he's filled you so full there's no space left for you to fit what he's spilled inside you, over and over again. It keep leaking out with each press and demanding thrust as he buries his cock inside you as deep as he goes.
You shake your head even though you know it's useless. Pleading with him has never gotten you anywhere before. You don't know why you think it's going to make a difference now.
"Please, I-I can't-- nngh, too much," you plead. You whine. You sob.
"Shh, nena, it's okay," he hushes. Again with the cooing. Again with the sweet little nicknames, but he's not showing mercy, his hand moving down from your hip, down between your legs, until his thumb presses down on your clit.
Electricity crackles through the length of your spine. Your back arches, lifting off the bed, you don't know if you are chasing into his touch or running away from it: the first? latter? both? neither.
You can't form a coherent thought anymore. It's good and too much, and your brain is short-circuiting from it all.
"There you go, see? Doing so good. Look how pretty you are taking me."
Even in the dim light of your bedroom, you can see his expression clearly. Eyes a piercing crimson red, the corners of his canine teeth peeking out from his self-satisfied smile.
He bends down, nearly folding you in half as he presses his cock as deep as it goes, until he's nudging at that sweet and perfect spot that has your vision go white and blinding behind your eyes.
Sweet, sharp ache scrapes close to your bones at the sensation of him filling you again. The way he stretches you to your limits, until you've forgotten how to breathe, and may very well be the death of you.
It's there again. The oppressive warmth that swirls sweetly in your stomach as a warning. Tears prickle your eyes as everything in you squeezes tight at the sensation.
Oh shit, it's--
"Fuck that's it nena. That's it. Come on my cock again. Come on it and I'll fill you up."
It rises in you. A pressure that builds and builds and builds, and robs you of your breath until you have nothing left to give. It's overwhelming, the way the pleasure burns at every one of your nerve endings, until your face tingles with a numbness and you can no longer feel your legs.
"Mi-Miguel," you stutter, "I can't--"
"Yes you can."
The pressure is still there, expanding with an ominous volume, and no, he's wrong. You can't. Something is different. This isn't like before. You squirm underneath him, feet planted against the mattress for leverage.
"Settle down," he says, but you don't know how you're supposed to do that when your entire body has been wounded so tight you think the whole of you are going to snap.
You shake your head frantically, sobbing with a raw burn in your throat as you thrash underneath him, trying to escape the overwhelming sensation. Oh fuck-- it's too much.
Oh god, you can't-you can't-you can't--
You raise your palms against his firm chest, pressing back, in a half-formed attempt to make him ease up, but it only spurs him on. One arm loops behind your back, lifting you from the mattress to meet his hips as he snaps them into you. And oh fuck!
It hits something devastating inside. A pin prick of pleasure that strikes every nerve in your body. It hits a frequency that makes your teeth shatter, every cell in your skull vibrate. Your leg kicks out, body twisting and turning to get away from the overwhelming sensation.
"Callate," you hear his warm strained breath in your ear.
His free hand locks around your wrists, pinning them to the side, then he's lunging forward, his mouth pressed to your shoulders and you can feel the sharp warning of his fangs resting on your skin. "Calm down, or I'm gonna bite you."
You still, shivering as his hips pulls back, then he hits that devastating spot again and again.
Every muscle in you locks up tight until you can't move and for a moment you wonder if he really did bite down. But you can still feel his mouth on your throat, his tongue lapping gently at your sweat-soaked skin until the whole of your neck tingles.
He doesn't go easy on you, thrusting into you with the same demanding pace as before, and God. The sensation is heavy and ominous like nothing else you've felt before. Large and looming with nowhere else to go, and there's nothing you can do to prevent it, and you know that if this doesn't stop, if Miguel doesn't stop, then all of you are going to burst.
You open your mouth, trying to warn him, but all that comes out is the first syllable.
"Miii--" The rest dies in a wail, and you realize it's already too late. The pressure shatters and breaks.
You come with a rush of wetness that spills out of you. It soaks everything, your thighs and his, drenching his stomach and drips down against the sheets to join the mess that's already there.
Everything sounds distant like you're pulled under water. You can barely even register Miguel's voice in your ear. "Oh shit, are you-- fuck, that's --"
He sounds surprised. But he doesn't stop. Miguel fucks you through it. Your climax and his, with frantic thrusts, until finally he settles into a slow and gentler pace.
When you come back to yourself, he's kneeling above you, his large bodyframe looming over yours.
"Fuck, babe..."
He palms at his softening cock, glistening wet with your mess as he stares down at you with darkened eyes. Slowly jerking the length of it with a lazy pace that has you mesmerized. It twitches in his grip with interest, and you know it's not going to take long before he's ready to go again.
"One more time," Miguel says. "Let's see if we can make you do it again."
Jesus fucking Christ
Your head drops down to your pillow with exhaustion.
The thing about dating a man with superhuman stamina is that it may very well kill you.

“do you not have any friends?” a tousled head of dirty blond stands before you, his toned arms crossed over his chest. it’s only been five minutes; he’s already cutting five years off of your lifespan.
there’s a heartbreaker kind of look in his eyes that warns you to avoid him. you ignore it. “that’s an odd question to ask a stranger.” he’s not your type anyway; it doesn’t matter how much he pesters you.
“we don’t have to be strangers.” he stretches his hand out. “I’m miya atsumu, and my friend thinks you’re hot.” friendly (suspicious), you shake it.
“you or your friend?”
as he opens his mouth to reply, the door chimes cut him off. three people walk in. one is trailing behind the two—defeated, like he’s failed a mission. you look at the one that talked to you, and then to him. twins, you note. this one’s got better hair.
there’s a reserved figure that walks ahead of them with an air of authority around him. the captain? you wonder, noticing the sport uniforms. he bows at you politely. you like this one.
“don’t listen to him.” the third person speaks up, and your mouth goes agape. he’s gorgeous. “sorry on his behalf.” he’s perfect.
“do you all play soccer or something?” you wince at their reactions.
“volleyball, actually.” — twin #1.
“oh! my bad!!!” you pale. god. “that’s cool. cool cool cool. cool.”
“cool with you if we get something to eat?” god’s favorite teases, all the others staring at you both. your ears turn a deeper shade of red each second.
“..huh?” you blank.
“oh. RIGHT. um, what can I get you?” you want to crawl in a hole and die, but hiding behind the counter will do for now.
you hear crickets as atsumu opens his mouth. “your number?”
“for suna here.” he adds as he gestures.
he clearly can handle himself, “ignore him. I’m not in the market for any relationships. nor am I interested.”
miya glares at him. “that’s mean, man. she looks disappointed.”
“I’m not.” you correct. “even if I was, it’s not like I’d have a chance.” your lips move faster than your brain.
“talk about self deprecating humor.” gray-haired twin #2 smiles at you, considerate. that lets your shoulders relax a bit.
“this is all really awkward,” suna says, “but we could really use some cupcakes or something.”
the captain steps up, and you maybe unintentionally notice that suna’s the tallest. “can we please get those cookies that were on twitter? if it’s not a problem.” he’s formal.
“sure. how many?”
“four.” the twins echo.
“make that three.” — s
you look up at him, confused. “you don’t want anything?”
“those look good.”
you follow his line of sight, and grin. iced lemon loaves.
“yeah. good pick.”

Of Doctors and Dragons by Bodhrán M.
It eats people.
The assurance kept bouncing around Six’s head as he climbed up the grassy slope. The man had looked quite serious as he’d said it but had added with the wisdom of a scholar that he didn’t think that was going to dissuade him.
And he was right, Six thought with a touch of pride, he’d never been stopped by the threat of carnivorous creatures before. And he had a lovely scar on his left leg to prove it.
Come to think of it, he also had a scar in the small of his back from a manticore… and another under his third rib on the right side from a gryphon…
Ah, well, that was life. Couldn’t expect to get through it without some bruises, right? Besides, he’d quite enjoyed all three of those excursions.
Apart from the actual getting mauled, of course, but you couldn’t have everything.
Anyway, Six had heard a lot of stories about dragons and he’d never actually come across a confirmed case of a human being devoured by one. It was always a case of someone who’d heard it from someone who’d heard it from a merchant who’d known of someone vanishing mysteriously near a dragon’s lair. You never got to the source, exactly.
Sometimes, he’d wondered if the story had been made up by the dragons themselves just to get some peace. That made some sort of sense, he lied to himself.
But then again, those devoured didn’t often get to tell the tale.
Six shivered, half from horror and half from delight. This was the fun part, the little moment before all hell broke loose and things got really interesting.
And this was when things got really interesting.
Cresting the hill, he was suddenly met with the vaguely disturbing tableau of four heavily armed, thickly padded figures all levelling nasty looking rifles in his direction.
He froze where he was, lifting his hands high into the air. “Oh,” he said, trying a charming grin. “I think I may have gotten a bit lost.”
They didn’t lower their weapons. One – the smallest – ratcheted the pin of their gun in a meaningful manner. “State your business.”
Six’s grin got wider. “My name’s Six,” he said, “an’ ’m lookin’ for a dragon.”
The tallest lowered their weapon and stepped forwards. Their face was completely concealed by a black hood and scarf, but they dug in their pocket and retrieved a cigarette of some kind. Some careful manoeuvring of the various materials later and they had it stuck in their mouth and lit.
Six thought about applauding, but he also quite liked having a head and all his limbs. So, instead, he just waited to see what they’d do.
“Well, you found it,” the tallest figure said. Their voice was quite high for their size and Six suspected they might be a woman. They gestured behind them to a gaping shadowy maw of a cave, leading into the hill and – presumably – underground.
“So, I am in the right place. Can I go inside?”
The smallest guard – he was guessing, but he felt confident enough about that title that he would have bet money – shook their rifle threateningly. “Why?”
Shrugging, which was surprisingly difficult to do with both hands above your head, Six said, “I just wanted to see if the rumours were true. Talkin’ to a dragon – that’d be somethin’ to tell the grandkids, wouldn’t it?”
The end of the cigarette flared red as the tallest guard inhaled. “And would you,” they said, smoke curling around each level word, “be concerned if I told you that it eats people?”
He thought about it for a moment. “I dun’t know,” he replied, honestly, “’cause I dun’t know if that’s true. What you just told me.”
“I beg your pardon?”
“Well,” Six began, “you asked if I would be concerned if you told me that the dragon eats people. Not whether I would be concerned that it eats people. Can I put my arms down now? They’re gettin’ tired.”
The guards looked over at each other, seemingly in a bid to work out what he’d just said.
Normally, this would be the point where he ran away, but they didn’t seem like they were going to shoot him immediately. Or at least, shoot him anywhere immediately fatal. It was an important distinction to make in times like these.
And also, he was having tremendous fun.
“Well, it doesn’t matter what I tell you,” the tallest guard finally said, “because it doesn’t change the fact that it eats people. And yes, you can put your arms down.”
Sixsmith pulled a face and let his arms drop to his sides, careful not to reach anywhere near his pistol. “Who’d it eat?”
“What?”
“Who’d it eat? Presumably, someone from here, right?”
The smallest guard lifted their gun again, shaking it in his direction and said the very words he was hoping to hear. “You ask too many questions.”
He shrugged, secretly rejoicing. That phrase was only said when the speaker either didn’t have – or didn’t want to give – the real answers.
Six liked mysteries. They did usually mean he had to cross a town off his internal map after the locals chucked him out on his ear, and he typically picked up a few physical mementos, but they were usually worth it.
But a dragon who ate people (but never anyone the accusers could actually name), a mafia of doctors and armed guards seemed just exactly the right amount of unexplained madness to be interesting.
He thought it was about time he did what he did best.
It was time to stick his nose in and see who tried to cut it off first.
Six slipped into the busiest pub he could find and took his subtlety off at the door.

The Rules:
Every twenty-four hours there will be another round. After every round, the character in last place will be eliminated.
If there are multiple characters tying for last place, there will be a special elimination round. In these rounds, every character in last place will be eliminated, even if all the characters have tied equally.
When there are only two characters remaining, they will face off against one another in a week-long poll to determine the victor.
If the character that you consider the hottest isn't listed here, hit the 'what about ___???' option and reply to this post with the overlooked character. The character with the highest 'write-in' votes will be added to the next round. Unless the 'what about ___???' option is the least voted for, in which case it will be eliminated. Welcome to the party, Han and Cassian!
This is all for fun. Don't take it too seriously ;)
We have our first casualty: Qui-Gon Jinn.
My apologies to all the DILF hunters.
Now, everyone please give a warm welcome to our two new options: Han Solo and Cassian Andor!
...and let's also acknowledge all of the studs who didn't quite make it:
Darth Maul, Commander Cody, The Bad Batch Boys (you get all of them at once or none of them at all), Jango Fett, Boba Fett, Kanan Jarrus, Lando Calrissian, Alexsandr Kallus, Klaud, Mace Windu, Chirrut Îmwe, Baze Malbus, Cal Kestis, General Grievous, Kit Fisto, Cad Bane (as a Cad Bane anti I refuse to acknowledge this submission), Bodhi Rook, K2-S0, Quinlan Vos, Ferus Olin, Eli Vanto, Garazeb Orrelios, Ruescott Melshi, aaand Brasso.
You know… I have a sneaking suspicion some of those entries might’ve been jokes…
Anyway! Onwards to Round Two!

Panthera Tigris Tigris Nikos
Jaune: Hey, Pyrrha? Can I have a hug?
Pyrrha: Of course, Jaune! (Hugs)
Jaune: (Sinks into her)
Pyrrha: Would anyone else like-
Nora: (Dragging Ren) MEMEMEME~!
Fun Fact! Bengal tigers are big. Females have been documented to reach 400 pounds, males 500 pounds, and occasionally larger specimens reaching 700 pounds. Royal Bengal Tigers are reportedly even bigger, with one specimen shot by David Hasinger in 1967 was reported to be 857 pounds, measured at 11 feet long, and left paw prints "the size of dinner plates," and it's last meal was a live water buffalo weighed down by an eighty-pound weight. It is displayed in the Smithsonian Institutions's National Museum of Natural History, in the Hall of Mammals.
---------------------------------------------------
Pyrrha: Ready for our run, Jaune?
Jaune: You bet! Maybe this time I could-
Pyrrha: (Ear flicks) Oh, uh, why don't you keep warming up, Jaune? I need to grab something from the dorm.
Jaune: Oh, uh, sure thing, Pyrrha. I'll be right here.
Cardin: (Sitting on the roof) What the hell? Where's Nikos go- (Door swings open, Mauled)
Fun Fact! Bengal Tigers are fast. They can make short sprints of forty miles per hour, which is about the speed of a thoroughbred horse. An incident with a startled tigress mother with her cubs in Nepal in 1974 resulted in the death of a researcher who was hiding 15 feet in a tree. In 2007, on Christmas Day at the San Francisco Zoo, an Amur Tiger cleared a thirty-foot moat to maul three visitors who were harassing the tiger, killing one of them before being killed after four shots to the skull by responding police officer's .40-caliber-pistol rounds. It should be noted that the Amur was a captive tiger, raised from birth in the zoo. Imagine a wild tiger raised in the jungle.
---------------------------------------------------
Pyrrha: Are you okay, Jaune?
Jaune: Y-Yeah, I... Wait, what about the goliath?!
Pyrrha: It's okay, Jaune. I took care of it.
Jaune: But how, Pyrrha? (Holding) Your weapons-!
Pyrrha: (Takes, Smiles) I took care of it.
Jaune: (Looks behind her, Sees dead goliath)
Fun Fact! Bengal Tigers are strong. Their bite force can reach up to a thousand pounds, which is much stronger than a pitbull's and about a quarter of a great white shark. Their prey includes deer, buffalo, bison, bears, rhinos, and elephants. A single blow can break a bear's spine, and easily decapitate a human.
---------------------------------------------------
Jaune: Thanks again for letting us come visit, Mrs. Nikos.
Mama Nikos: Oh, Jaune, don't be so formal. We're practically family, so just call me Mama.
Jaune: Uh... No, I'll just stick with Mrs. Nikos, if you don't mind.
Mama Nikos: Oh, you are just so polite! I'm glad Pyrrha could have such a handsome team leader like you.
Pyrrha: (Blushing) M-Mom...
Nora: Can I have more meat buns, Mama?
Ren: Nora...
Nora: Oh, right! Khm! May I have more meat buns, Mama?
Mama Nikos: They're in the oven.
Jaune: So what do you do for a living, Mrs. Nikos?
Mama Nikos: I'm a personal fitness trainer. It's actually how I met Pyrrha's father. He said he could perform a perfect double twister kick, and I told him it was impossible unless he could twist and launch himself at a 167 degree rotation with a north-northwest gale blowing at 3.5 miles per hour behind him-
Mama Nikos: (Ding!) Oh! Meat buns are done!
Jaune: Huh...
Pyrrha: Don't worry. I didn't get it the first time, either.
Fun Fact! Bengal tigers are smart. Cubs are raised by their mothers for two and a half to three years. There are also notes of tigers imitating deer and bear calls. They will chase larger prey into water, tear at buffalo legs to bring them to the ground, and will flip porcupines from to their backs to avoid spines. There are also records of tigers killing 15-foot crocodiles, 20-foot pythons, 300-pound seals, and a 20-year-old elephant.
---------------------------------------------------
Jaune: Hm? Hey, Pyrrha? Who's this standing with your mom?
Pyrrha: Hm? Oh... That's... That's my mother. She... She's not around anymore.
Jaune: Do... Do you want to talk about it?
Pyrrha: I... I don't know where to begin. She was my hero, but she did something really bad, and she died when I was really young. And I...
Jaune: Hey. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to.
Pyrrha: (Leans on Jaune) I was probably six years old when it happened. She and I were on our way to watch a tournament together, but then this guy came from out of nowhere. He shot at us and broke her jaw. She carried me back home, and then... She left that night. I didn't learn about what happened to her until just after getting accepted into Beacon. She... She went on a rampage and then... Then she...
Jaune: (Holds her) Hey, hey. It's okay, Pyrrha. I'm... I'm sorry to hear that. I'm... I'm sure she was a great mom.
Pyrrha: (Sniffles) She was the best. And, on the bright side, because of her, there's a new standard for huntsman and huntresses to follow. And she's part of the reason why I became a huntress. So I could make sure everyone follows the standard. Follows the example she set. (Smiles) I think she would have liked you.
Jaune: (Looks at family photo) I think I would have like her, too.
Fun Fact! In the first ten years of the 20th century, until her death in 1907, the Champawat Tiger, also known as "the man-eater" killed and ate 436 humans in western Nepal. She evaded capture and continued to kill until she was shot by British hunter Jim Corbett, who speculated the tigress lost her teeth years ago from a gunshot, forcing her to change her prey to much easier humans. He then went on to be an advocate for wild tigers and spent the latter years of his life devoted to their conservation, even having a conservation park in Nepal dedicated to him.

Daylong edging... the aftermath!
Call it the result of several hours of self abvse, torment, sexual servitude and cruel edging or indeed the insatiable hunger of a humiliation whore... this night is just so thrilling to me.
For those of you who read my blog regularly, you know that am currently traveling overseas with my husband. You also know that today I excused myself from accompanying my husband to his business meetings and instead took out four weeks of sexual hunger on myself by putting the dnd on my hotel suite door and spending five hours deliciously slapping, pinching, whipping, choking, assuming submissive poses... all while ruthlessly edging myself. By the time my alarm went off (one hour before my husband was due back) I was a wet, sweaty, sticky, sloppy mess covered in my own spit, my pussy juices, my sweat...!
When the alarm went off, I stood before the full length mirror and looked at myself. I was naked, wet, sweaty, hot, squirming... my nipples erect and breasts coated in my sweat and saliva. Red marks reminded me how I had mauled my breasts. I lifted my dishevelled hair with both hands lifting my hair up in a submissive pose and could see a hint of armpit stubble and a light red mark where my stocking had been choking me all afternoon. I turned to my side to see the welts my husband's belt had left on my bum and lower back and thighs... Note to self - wear clothes that cover me and make sure my neck is also covered.
I showered for most of that hour - shampooing my hair, shaving my armpits, legs, pussy of any stubble whatsoever, washing my body and then moisturising it lovingly. All the time I felt that ever present ache deep inside me as my clit throbbed from being stimulated all day but not having been allowed to cum... fuckkkkkkk! The torment was so delicious that words cannot describe it.
I dressed very conservatively and prepared for my beloved husband to return. When I hugged him, I could not shake the feeling of having cheated so badly on him. He loves me so much and I am such a humiliation craving whore... I don't deserve him. And yet, I felt lucky to have him home to hold me and reassure me that my real world was still perfect.
We went to dinner with some friends who are also travelling with us and I was distant and distracted all night. All I could think of was how I mind-fucked myself - how I r4ped myself and how I abvsed myself all day. How I mercilessly edged and got messages from strangers. I was so wet and my sexual hunger was amped beyond control. I had to excuse myself and go to the bathroom and just breathe to get some semblance of relief from the constant heat between my legs but just found myself playing with my nipples which sent direct tingles down to my clit. Fuckkkkkk!
We went back to the hotel and in the dark, my darling husband made tender love to me. I had to use all my might to not cum when he entered me... and all the while I was breathless and moaning uncontrollably imagining that I was being r4ped and abvsed by a faceless stranger in this foreign land...
Oh godddd! I am such a whore....... fuckkkkkkkkkkk

Island 8
Find the series masterlist
The group of you are finally ready to leave the base and start on, hopefully, the final journey on the Island.
Warnings: Swearing, mention of blood, mention of hunting, anxiety, general feelings of low self-worth, typical stuff for Survivor for this series.
Word count: 2.7k
It took a further three days to have everything as prepped as you wanted. You made batches and batches of hard biscuits, using up all the flour. Berries would still be available along a lot of the route, so you didn't worry too much about that. Jerky was fortunately something you'd been making for a long time, so you had quite a bit of it to go around. Fresh meat would also be available along the route.
Water was more of a concern, but you were still holding out hope for a drop with more canteens.
Price gave in to your logic, and finished taming the iguanodon, which was good. Ghost surprised the hell out of you by coming back with a stego. Even Soap managed to tame a parasaur.
Gaz still wanted a hyaenadon, so you and he took the ghillie and cuts of meat and started taming. You worked on one - Gaz somehow managed to work on two. It did take two days, as you'd predicted, but it worked.
Leaving the lot of you with plenty of tames to carry things and help guard the group. Hopefully you'd be able to tame a few more things along the way, since you weren't worried much about being able to feed them all until you got to the volcano.
Really, it was a pretty good start.
Soap and Gaz did a good portion of the packing, with Price and Ghost handling the weapons and ammunition. Another thing you wouldn't mind finding more of in a drop.
You kept track of everything, made sure everyone had some armor and kept essentials on them. Just in case.
You didn't even object when Gaz swapped out one of your armor pieces for something heavier.
The morning you were set to leave was… hard. Not for any reasons you'd expected. Packing went quickly and seamlessly, all the tames behaving themselves. Even Ripper wasn't trying to maul anyone.
No, it was difficult for you to leave. You didn't want to leave. You didn't want to leave the safety of your base. You weren't ready to venture into the relative unknown.
Even with the four men by your side.
“Ready?” Gaz finally prompted you, even as one of the tames snorted and shuffled behind you.
You breathed in deep one last time, hands steady as you straightened your shirt. “Ready.” You turned your back on the base and took your place at the front, leading the whole group away.
You didn't look back.
If your guesses were right, it would take about four days to reach the volcano, since the lot of you weren't pushing, and were moving more cautiously. Maybe three, if things went well and nobody got in trouble and there weren't any distractions.
You had enough food to last a week, just in case.
The first day was easy. Nothing bothered you. All was quiet. Feeding everyone was easy - the herbivores grazed as you all walked, and you let Ripper and the hyaenadons after a few dodos. Gaz helped you build up the campfire for the night, helping you cook as the others took care of settling everything else.
“Ye never did tell us how to tame a raptor,” Soap said, eyeing Ripper where the raptor had settled behind you for the night.
“I didn't?” You blinked, surprised. You could have sworn you'd told them already. “Well, it's not easy. The hyaenadons are probably the easiest, honestly.” You swallowed a few berries, thinking over how you wanted to phrase it.
“And the rest?” Price had a keen eye on you, even as he swapped a pot of boiling water for a fresh pot.
“Well, first step is to not get killed,” you answered dryly, smirking at his dissatisfied huff. “You have to trap the predators. Usually that means with something like a bear trap. Feed them while they're stuck and can't go anywhere. Tom was pretty good at building traps that were less harmful, things you could lead a raptor into without risking your arm.”
“Traps, eh?” Price eyed you, clearly considering. “Did he teach you?”
“Yes,” you said slowly, hesitantly. “But we won't have time to build any traps, not on our route. The only chance we'd have of taming one is if we found one already trapped or injured.”
“But it could be done,” Price pressed.
“Sure,” you agreed with a shrug. “Still takes time, so we'd have to pause somewhere nearby, but it could be done, hypothetically. I don't know if we'll need more carnivores though, honestly. I wouldn't say no to more trikes or stegos.”
Price sat back, his curiosity apparently assuaged for the moment.
“How did Tom teach ye?” Soap asked, still looking curious.
“Showed me what he had done with Ripper,” you said, shrugging again. “We had plenty of time. Not like we had anywhere else to be.” You paused, swallowing back bitterness. “At least, that's what we figured at the time.”
Silence settled over the camp for a few long moments, the others giving you time to calm again. You didn't look at them, instead choosing to look at the fire, letting the movement of the flames distract you from your feelings.
You owed a lot to Tom, and you'd never have a chance to repay him.
But maybe if you got these men out… maybe your debt would be closer to settled.
“What else did he teach you?” Gaz was the one to break the silence. “About tames.”
You smiled a little. “Which ones to avoid, like dodos,” you answered easily. “Which ones were easier to tame. Where to find the different creatures.”
“You seen a lot of this place, then?” Soap piped up, watching keenly.
“A fair bit. Not the snowy lands, not the volcano. But I did make the mistake of going through the swamp once.” You shuddered in remembered terror and revulsion. “Huge bugs. Terrifying crocodile-things, except bigger. Lots of fighting and hunting going on in the swamp, all the time.”
“Didn't ye have to go there to get the leech?” Soap looked faintly concerned.
You shrugged. “I stayed to the outside, only went in far enough to find a leech and run. It was fine.” You reached behind you to pat Ripper. The raptor chirruped at you, clearly pleased with the attention.
“Good thing that's not on the way,” Gaz managed to joke, his attention still focused on you.
“Very good thing,” you agreed. “Although once we get into the mountains, there will be plenty of bad shit to keep us busy.”
“We're prepared for that,” Price pointed out, seemingly unconcerned.
You decided to keep your thoughts to yourself. You'd already expressed concern about the danger, more than once, so further harping on it wouldn't get you anywhere. Especially since these four could now survive on their own. They didn't actually need you anymore.
It was what you'd worked towards with them, for them, but it was still a slightly terrifying thought. That they would survive without you.
You shook yourself, getting rid of the worst of the what ifs and maybes, and stood to do a quick round of checks. Now that dark had fallen, it would be best to sleep in shifts, something the four of them had divided up quite nicely.
You weren’t going to object. Not tonight. Tomorrow, though, you’d insist on pulling your weight.
Soap, Price, and Ghost all settled down, apparently content to go to sleep. Soap even went so far as to roll away from the fire, his hair even more of a mess than usual.
Gaz stayed where he was, seated, shoulders relaxed but gaze alert. The firelight cast odd shadows around him, flickering and dancing. Far from scaring you, however, you just thought him beautiful like this.
“You should get some sleep,” he murmured to you, voice lowered in deference to his teammates.
“I will,” you agreed. “In a few minutes.” You breathed in deep, the cold air mixed with the smell of the fire both soothing and exhilarating. “You see the island very differently.”
“Do I?” He sounded curious, glancing at you as you settled a little closer to him. You told yourself it was so you could keep your voices down, let the others sleep.
You didn't acknowledge that you just wanted to be close to him.
Well. You tried not to acknowledge that, anyway.
“You still see the wonder of it,” you murmured, letting your own gaze drift past the fire to the dark woods beyond. “The beauty of this place. I can't see it anymore. I just see danger.”
Gaz was quiet for a few moments before he leaned over enough to nudge his shoulder up against yours. “You've been alone a long time,” he murmured. “Hypervigilance is not surprising.”
You sighed softly, leaning just a little into the comfort he offered. “I'm tired,” you admitted, so quiet you were sure he couldn't hear you.
But he surprised you, turning enough to wrap one solid arm around your shoulders. “I'm here,” he whispered, head tipped towards your ear, foreheads nearly touching. “I'll help. Any way I can.”
You closed your eyes, trying to ignore the hot sting of tears, refusing to let them escape. “You already are.”
His arm tightened around you, comforting and grounding, letting you breathe more easily. Neither of you said another word. None were needed. The shared warmth and comfort was more than enough for you.
And when you woke in the morning next to Gaz, rather than where you'd originally set your things down, no one said anything. Soap looked like he wanted to, but he didn't. (The sharp-looking elbow from Gaz might've helped with that.)
It didn't take long until the lot of you were walking again. You had the map, mostly ignoring Price peering over your shoulder at it. You didn't need the map yet, but you wanted to be sure the lot of you weren't getting lost.
“Drops up ahead,” Ghost called from the back of the group.
You paused and shaded your eyes, looking up until you spotted them. One green drop and one white. Your heart thumped in excitement. White drops were rare, and usually had really good stuff.
“Looks like they'll be falling up ahead,” Price said, having also spotted them. “Nearly dead ahead.”
“The white one is a bit off course,” you mused. “But it should be fine. We're not that close to the horse clan here, I think we're outside their normal range.”
“You think?” Price raised one eyebrow at you.
You rolled your eyes. “I was less focused on keeping up with their territories, and more focused on surviving,” you pointed out, eyes narrowing at him.
Price huffed but held his hands up in apparent surrender. Satisfied, you looked back at the drops. The green would be directly on the way, easy to stop and grab.
An ankylosaurus wandered out of the trees in front of the group, snorting once at the lot of you before continuing to look for berries.
“Slight change of plans,” you murmured, excited now. “You lot go to the green drop and wait for it there. I'll tame this anky and meet up with you.”
“You shouldn't stay out here on your own,” Gaz interrupted, having clearly been eavesdropping.
You shrugged. “So someone can volunteer to stay with me,” you said, unbothered. “Won't take three of you long to get everything out of the green drop anyway.”
“I'll stay,” Gaz immediately offered.
Price sighed and briefly pinched the bridge of his nose, muttering something too quiet for you to understand. He sounded faintly exasperated. “Fine,” he agreed, lowering his hand again. “Soap, Ghost, on me.” He strode ahead, and you whistled the tames to follow him.
From behind, it was rather fun to see the small herd of creatures following the beleaguered-looking captain. A sentiment Soap seemed to share with you, snickering as he passed.
“More tames?” Gaz asked after the group had pulled ahead.
“Ankys are pretty good defense,” you pointed out. “Not sure how much they can carry, but that tail is a good deterrent for a lot of predators.”
“Not arguing,” he was quick to say, holding out a bag of berries. “Just surprised we're taking the time to do this now, is all.”
You shrugged, pulling out a dark red berry and rolling it between your fingertips. “Way I see it, we have plenty of time,” you pointed out. “And more tames can't hurt.”
Gaz nodded, accepting your logic. “So, approach slowly and feed it until it likes you?” He guessed with a little grin.
You couldn't help your huff of amusement. “Basically,” you agreed. “Keep an eye out and shout if you see trouble.” You left him there, walking over closer to the anky.
It wasn't a long process to feed, fortunately. The anky was hungry, and eager to take berries even from your hand. By the time the other group had the drop packed away, you had the anky following you, docile as any tame.
“Anything good in that drop?” You asked as you and Gaz walked up to the rest of the group.
“A canteen,” Soap answered, holding it up to show you. “And more ammo.”
“Not bad,” you agreed with a little grin. “I hope the white drop has more good stuff.”
The white drop seemed to be a bit off the path you'd drawn for the journey, edging closer to the edge of the Pink Ladies’ territory. Hopefully it wouldn't be a problem. Hopefully it would be worth it.
This time, Gaz stayed next to you as you walked. You didn't mind his company, even when you heard a bit of snickering and hushed murmurs behind you. Soap, at a guess. And maybe Price.
The white drop was a bit larger than the average drop, and it only took moments to pry the top open.
The first thing you grabbed happened to be a bundle of incendiary arrows. You whistled lowly, impressed.
“Hardly ever see these,” you mused, passing them to Soap. “Those could come in handy.”
The jar of oil went right after the arrows, and your grin felt a little sharp. A little feral, possibly.
Those arrows would be an excellent way to defend your group, if needed.
Two more canteens, bigger and heavy-duty, met with your approval. More ammo, for all the weapons. A precious jar of cure-all. Two bags of jerky. And a bola, which you’d never had a chance to use before.
“That was a good drop,” you said, grinning, very pleased. “Very good drop.”
“Good to have supplies,” Price agreed, finishing stowing away the last of the extra ammo.
“Now that this is done, we can keep going.” You didn't bother with taking the crate this time. No need, not if you lot actually got off the island. And building took too long on the road to be helpful.
Ghost hissed through his teeth. “Got eyes on,” he said suddenly.
The shift in the men around you was palpable, shoulders drawing up, expressions changing. Gaz shifted so he was half in front of you, physically blocking you.
You'd be impressed if you weren't trying to peer over his shoulder to see what was ahead.
Three Painted Ladies stood ahead, basically in the way. Your heart sank. You hadn't dealt much with them, not in a while, but the red dye on their faces and clothes made it clear. The two marked tames behind them made you a little nervous - an anky and a dire bear. You hadn't seen a dire bear in ages.
You'd forgotten how big they got.
You breathed in slowly, eyeing the distance between your groups. The Painted Ladies weren't approaching, weren't trying to get closer. Clearly waiting.
You'd have to go to them.
“You lot stay here,” you said, quiet but firm. “They won't deal with you.”
“But–!” Soap started to protest, one hand already on a rifle.
“No.” You shook your head a little. “They won't talk to you. They'll talk to me.”
Price looked back at you, calculating. Then he nodded once, firm and steady. “Gaz, keep back, but follow her.”
You didn't object that time. Having Gaz at your back made you feel better, even if you knew he couldn't help. So you breathed in deep, until the ache of it filled your lungs.
Then you started forward, projecting confidence you didn't feel.

[s k i l l ]
So, we talk a lot about Quarry headcanons and what could have been on the Brainrot Discord server that Kat made and one of the things I keep thinking about is how they gave (at least some of) the characters these sets of skills that never really impact gameplay, and I think it would be really cool if they did. Like, if there was more variety in who could be sent on which path. Switching Kaitlyn to the Hackett house path with Laura and Ryan to the scrapyard with Dylan being a popular one for fanfic, but also, idk, maybe Dylan won't let Ryan go without him so he ends up on the Hackett house path too? Maybe Abi steps up to go with Kaitlyn to the scrapyard and has to figure out the crane even though it's way out of her skillset, maybe Emma and Jacob can actually come back and link up with the rest of the gang instead of being stuck out in the woods for so long, stuff like that.
I'm just thinking about what their skills might be and how that might impact the game. Also keep in mind that if the character you most need for a task ends up up dead before that task comes along, it's going to be carnage for everyone else, which would up the replay value significantly IMO.
Kaitlyn: Shooting. She's a MUCH better shot than Ryan, if we can believe the Shooting Stars scoreboard (four of the actual children attending the camp score higher than him), but we never see that in the game? What if the aiming mechanism was actually different between different characters? What if there were shots you could make more easily as Kaitlyn, that were harder to pull off as Ryan?
Ryan: Agility. Guy does a lot of running and jumping, what if there were timed segments that were easier to complete as Ryan within the allotted time, or else something consequential happened? Good luck if you ended up plodding along with Jacob instead, now Abi and Nick are both mauled and turning, or something like that.
Dylan: Tech. Dylan's the physics nerd who slays at the crane game. What if you could bring him to the Hackett house and he could figure out the electric circuit puzzle in no time, but that meant someone else had to help Kaitlyn in the scrapyard? Maybe Ryan can still save Jacob without him but he takes too much time and the Hacketts catch you and pick off one of your party.
Jacob: Strength. Jakey's probably the buffest of the dudes, so maybe there are times you need a pair of strong arms or legs and Jacob's the only one who can come through. They also show us him picking locks but he never does that in an impactful situation, so maybe he'd have a lesser talent for that as well.
Abi: Stealth. Okay, so Abi runs and hides? Maybe she's awesome at hiding, then? Maybe she can get through parts of the game undiscovered by the werewolves that other characters can't. Maybe her being short AF means she can fit into hiding spots that you can't cram the leggy bois like Dylan and Nick into.
Emma: Observation. Emma's always watching and analyzing everyone's behavior and documenting things on her phone. Maybe she can find evidence or tarot cards others can't, or put pieces of the mystery together in ways no one else thinks of. Emma's a badass in the game, but it would be cool to see her 'documentarian' side come in handy prior to the credits rolling, too.
Nick: Climbing. I completely made this up because we don't get to see Nick do much besides try to pull his crush, suck face on a dare with Emma, and get mauled, but we do know he takes kids through the ropes course based on his dialogue with Abi, plus he's tall so he's got long arms and legs! Maybe he's the aerial expert. Maybe he can scale fences and get important items down from trees. Maybe he can climb up and free other characters who get stuck in those snare traps. (Obviously this assumes someone else can be the Designated Werewolf Victim, which I also think would improve the game.)
This also assumes Laura and Max keep their current roles, but I'd be up for that to be changeable too. It's not that I necessarily want a higher number of choices available, I just want the choices we can make to actually impact the gameplay and story arc more! Anyway, that's my Quarry ramble for the day (unless I come up with another one). Anyone else have thoughts?

Just something silly
Some ghouls like to pile on each other in the living room after dinner.
Usually, Mountain likes to head to bed early, only to wake up before the sun so he can tend to his gardens before it becomes too hot. Rain slinks to his room to do Lucifer knows what—Cirrus and Cumulus like to cuddle with each other in the privacy of their room.
So Swiss, Phantom, Aurora, and Dew stay in the living room, enjoying each other’s company before Aether finishes washing dishes and cleaning countertops.
They usually lay on the floor. The couch was deemed too small after one instance of Aurora falling off and hurting her wrist. Swiss was too worried about her to consider using the couch again for their cuddle pile.
Swiss is usually the ghoul to take charge and lay a soft blanket out, while the three other ghouls stand on the outskirts waiting for him to wave them over. Then it’s a free-for-all.
Phantom and Aurora fight over who will get to cuddle closest in Swiss’s arms. Dew is just happy to have someone hold him while he waits for Aether to finish cleaning.
In the past, the ghouls have offered to help clean up but Aether insists that it’s faster without the extra bodies in the way. He enjoys the process of watching the mess he’d made disappear. All the pots and pans and cutting boards cleared away.
The leftovers are safely portioned in the fridge for his loved ones to discover tomorrow. Dew has a propensity for eating last night's leftovers for breakfast in the morning. Aether hates it but Dew insists that breakfast is a social construct and the food tastes just as good no matter what time of day it is. Sadly enough for Aether, Dew has similarly corrupted Phantom. So the leftovers are packaged by Aether with love knowing his sweet ghouls will enjoy them in the morning.
Dew has just settled down with his head resting atop Aurora’s chest, listening to her heartbeat mixed with the purring of all the ghouls when he hears something that could wake him from the deepest sleep. From miles away, he would come running for that sound.
He can already hear Swiss whining as Phantom chirps and rips himself from Swiss's arms and jumps up, sprinting to the kitchen. Dew isn’t far behind, Aurora and Swiss also getting up and following.
Phantom may have beaten him to the kitchen, but Dew knows he’s Aether’s favorite.
Aether had been trying to keep quiet. Pulling the ice cream from the freezer went fine. Taking out four bowls flew completely under their radar. Even doling out scoops of ice cream into the bowls didn’t raise an eyebrow. Aether was surprised at how lost to the world they were from within each other’s arms. Usually, Dew would keep an ear open for his mate, waiting to hear him call so they could retire to their room.
It wasn’t until he pulled out the whipped cream that they came running. He was able to get the cap off and the first squirt into Swiss’s bowl before they all started mobbing him.
Trying to avoid a maul between Phantom and Dew, which was seconds away from happening based on the growls and snarling coming from the two, fighting each other to get closer to Aether, he places the bowls on the ground as quickly as possible.
He slides the bowls to different corners of the kitchen, trying to keep them all far away from each other. All four ghouls reverted to their basest form, following instincts to get to the sweet treat. They probably wouldn’t have acted so feral if they weren’t all together. The competition between them only amplifies their emotion. Snuffling along the floor, tripping over limbs to get to the ice cream, Aether thought it was all very cute.
He still had the can of whipped cream in his hand. Not that the ghouls would notice the difference without it. Aether felt bad anyway. So he went to each ghoul’s bowl and gave them each a hefty spray of whipped cream. Their snarling had turned to excited purring, but Dew’s tail continued to swish with anger.
When Swiss finished first, he laid his entire body down on the floor, content to lick his bowl relishing a deep feeling of satisfaction.
When Phantom finished he immediately slinked across the floor to Aurora’s bowl trying to see if he could steal some of hers. Good riddance she was just finishing up as well. Instead of lashing out at him, she took to licking around his mouth, cleaning up the mess he’d made.
Aether stood a few feet behind Dew, ensuring none of the ghouls could try and do what Phantom had tried to do to Aurora. She was very forgiving about theft, but Dew would have flipped out. Aether could just imagine his little fire ghoul with his claws out, teeth bared, ready to tear the throat out of anyone who came close. Aether would have had to stay up for hours in the infirmary patching up whichever ghoul thought it was smart to get between Dew and his ice cream.
When Dew finished eating his ice cream, his tail stopped swishing, and he sat up on his knees looking at Aether. The other ghouls were still preoccupied, and Aether was sure they’d eventually find their way back to their rooms. He decided to leave the empty bowls on the floor, sure he’d return to clean them in the morning. Maybe Mountain would guess what happened and put them away for Aether while he was preparing his coffee in the early hours of the dawn.
Either way, it was a problem for future Aether. Present Aether was ready to pick up his lovely fire ghoul and carry him to their room where he could lick the remnants of the ice cream off Dew’s face and Dew could gently fall asleep purring heavily and kneading at Aether’s chest in contentment.
(just something I thought might be cute)

prev. || masterlist || next
I never expected Clarcton to be so plain. As a girl, I used to dream about escaping the swamp, imagining a world beyond my responsibilities—a world full of beauty and freedom. But standing in the little village’s town square, those daydreams evaporated like morning mist.
Stover, the tiniest town in Clarcton, was quaint and small, with cobblestone streets and wooden cottages that seemed to lean on each other for support. The townspeople moved with the kind of slow, deliberate pace that comes from a life untroubled by haste. Their eyes lingered on me, and I could feel their curiosity as they assessed the stranger in their midst. I stood out just by being different, my scars a map of battles they couldn’t fathom.
Through a day of shopping, I learned that Stover rarely saw travelers. The elves invading the northern tip had made the locals wary, and I could hear their whispers about my scars. Ignoring them wasn’t easy, but I’d be gone tomorrow. The market was a small square, stalls offering modest wares—fresh produce, simple cloth, handcrafted trinkets. Each vendor seemed to eye me with a mix of suspicion and pity.
Northorn still held strong, its capital unfallen. King Edward had called for aid from Whopping, a fishing town on the east coast. The wolves of Viridi Gramine had decided not to help the humans, heading instead to Bangtan to protect their princess. Hearing the townsfolk speak ill of Hyuna made my stomach churn. These people were ignorant, jumping to conclusions like humans always did since the Sarkans first landed in Lustra.
Starving, I dropped off my supplies and set out for food. Hannah, a kind woman who ran the inn, had pointed me to a tavern that promised a decent meal. However, I was low on money and too frightened to barter. Drawing attention could be dangerous, especially after hearing rumors of elves in town. I’d hidden in shops, body tense, the sight of white hair sending chills down my spine.
Elves all looked the same—pale, white-haired, with amethyst eyes. This party had no women, and when I asked the tailor, he explained that their kind had a queendom where men were lesser beings. These elves were young and inexperienced, sent to weaken before the real conquerors arrived. The tailor believed Lustra would fall when the second wave came.
The tavern buzzed with an overwhelming clamor. Inside, the air was thick with the scent of ale and sweat, and it was clear that I was the only human present. The elves, their pale faces flushed with drink, were loud and rowdy, their laughter grating on my ears. Ale sloshed over the edges of their mugs, splattering the wooden floor. Keeping my head down, I approached the bar and ordered soup and ale, deciding it was safer to stay than to risk attracting attention by leaving too soon.
Finding a corner table, I settled in, hoping to blend into the shadows. The warmth of the tavern was a stark contrast to the chill outside, but it did little to soothe my nerves. As I waited for my meal, snippets of conversation drifted to me. The elves boasted of their exploits, their voices dripping with arrogance. They spoke of battles and conquests, their laughter tinged with cruelty. Each word stoked the fire of my hatred, but I kept my face impassive, my gaze fixed on the table in front of me.
When the tavern maid brought my soup and ale, I thanked her quietly, avoiding eye contact. The soup was hearty, its warmth spreading through my body with each spoonful. The ale, though bitter, helped to steady my nerves. I ate slowly, trying to make the meal last as long as possible.
As I ate, a group of elves at a nearby table grew louder, their taunts more pointed. They spoke about the humans they had encountered, their words laced with contempt. One of them, a particularly burly elf with a scar running down his cheek, caught my eye and sneered. “Look at that one,” he said loudly, gesturing towards me. “Thinks she can hide among us.”
The others laughed, and I forced myself to remain calm, taking another sip of my ale. The burly elf stood, his steps unsteady, and made his way over to my table. “What’s your name, human?” he demanded, leaning in close, the stench of alcohol on his breath.
I looked up, meeting his gaze with as much defiance as I could muster. “None of your business,” I replied evenly.
His sneer widened, and he reached out, grabbing my arm. “Feisty one, aren’t you? I like that.” He pulled me to my feet, and I could feel the eyes of the entire tavern on us. The room had fallen silent, the tension palpable.
The elf’s grip tightened, and I winced, but refused to show fear. “Let go of me,” I said through gritted teeth.
“Or what?” he taunted, pulling me closer. “You’ll make me?”
Before I could react, a flash of movement caught my eye. Another elf, smaller and quicker, appeared beside the burly one. “Enough, Dalion,” he said, his voice low and dangerous. “Leave her be.”
Dalion hesitated, his grip loosening slightly. “Why? She’s just a human.”
“Because I said so,” the other elf replied, his tone brooking no argument. “We don’t need any more trouble.”
With a grunt, Dalion released me, shoving me back into my chair. “Fine,” he muttered, glaring at me one last time before returning to his table. The smaller elf gave me a brief nod before following.
I took a shaky breath, my heart pounding. The tavern slowly returned to its previous state, the noise level rising once more. I finished my meal quickly, eager to leave and find some semblance of safety. As I paid for my food, I noticed the smaller elf watching me, his expression unreadable. I decided to go to the bar and finish my night there.
At the bar, a hooded figure sipped clear liquor, the sharp smell cutting through the tavern's haze. The bartender, his eyes darting between me and the elves, asked where I was from.
"Leeside," I lied, knowing he saw through it but didn’t call me out. He knew my destination and that Leeside was big enough to hide in. "Just passing through."
He nodded, wiping the bar. The elves were bothering a drunk old man for money, out of coins and still thirsty.
"Heard about Azamar?" the bartender asked.
I nodded, taking a bite. "Hot. Too bad, I’ve heard it’s nice this time of year."
The hooded figure shifted, drawing my instinctive gaze. Her teeth were too large, canines sharp, and one incisor framed in gold—a mark of an assassin from Whopping, according to Hoseok.
"The plains are worse," she said, her voice rough but feminine. "Hard to see anything if you go that far south."
"The northern tip isn’t too bad," I replied without thinking. "I came in through that way."
"Interesting."
She knew I was lying. Keeping my fear in check, I ate. The bartender offered another bowl on the house, which I accepted, knowing hot meals would be scarce. The elves grew louder, and I wanted to leave. Tomorrow, I’d memorize the maps Sam packed.
"Hey! You!"
I closed my eyes, feeling their gaze. They spoke a bastardized Lustrian, discussing my potential in bed and survival odds. I resisted the urge to respond, knowing a fight would expose me. Humans feared magic, as Aldara always said.
"Girl," another elf slurred, "give me some money. I need another drink."
The bartender, catching on, turned his back. I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. He knew I understood them. I was obviously not an elf, so the options were shifter or witch—either one could spell trouble if the bartender exposed me out of ignorance.
"I’m talking to you, bicce."
My eye twitched. The bartender noticed, realization dawning. He turned away, leaving me to fend for myself.
Fortunately, he didn't look disgusted by me. His face remained remarkably neutral as he returned with a refill. He carefully placed a napkin on the bar before setting down the glass. I glanced at him, then at the woman out of the corner of my eye. She was tense, her head inclined towards me, her eyes hidden but clearly watching me as closely as the elves were. They were louder now, frustrated by my lack of response. I picked up my glass and read the smudged writing on the napkin.
"I'm Vern."
I took a sip, nodding, keeping my face impassive. Quietly, I ordered another drink, placing a copper coin on the bar, and pointed at the group with my thumb. I didn’t care what they wanted, but I hoped Vern wouldn’t provoke them. With great care, I picked up the napkin.
Crumpling it in my hand, I muttered under my breath, wiping it against my lips before placing it back on the bar. I went back to eating. Vern brought the elf his drink, and their angry taunts stopped. The one who called me a bitch thanked me in a condescending tone. I wanted to tear him apart, but instead, I drank my ale and ate my vegetable soup.
Vern came back, picking up my napkin and walking over to the trash can behind the bar. The traveler next to me was still staring, and I knew she knew what had happened. They both had their secrets. She stayed hidden beneath her cloak, while Vern saw too much. Both of them were searching for something, but I couldn’t tell you what. I did know, however, that lying would only make me look worse. I had given him my first name and hoped that would satisfy his curiosity.
Another napkin appeared in front of me. Vern was wiping down glasses, back turned, and I was sure no one except the three of us understood what was going on. I glanced down.
"Moland. Etta Ketchens’ son."
So, there was another witch around. Moland was the original land of magic. All witches alive today descended from those who first discovered it in the swamps. Bangtan stole the title after witches began making deals with the ielfen. Their world was linked to the spirit realm, and the monsters that lived there were difficult to manage, so they sent them to the forests. The witches were strong enough to keep them away, but the creatures found refuge in Bangtan.
Anyone from Moland had magic, and I had heard of Etta from Thelma. She was from the northeast. I had never met her, but she was known for playing music and throwing great parties. Trusting Vern became easier. We were in the same boat, and witches liked to stick together. At the very least, I knew I had backup if it came down to a fight.
"Bangtan. Thelma Richard’s niece."
He nodded, his eyes wandering to the woman at the end of the bar. She hadn’t taken her eyes off us since the written exchange began. Her eyes seemed to glow within the darkness that surrounded her face, boring into me, waiting for something. Feeling exposed, I stood. It was time to leave. I had done what I came here to do, and the elves were starting to badger people for money again.
Vern shook his head and glanced down at my seat, giving me pause. Gaze turning to the woman, she shrugged and shook her head in agreement. I had no reason to trust either of them, but I had a feeling in my gut. Even if we wouldn’t normally help each other, right now, we had a common enemy. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Aldara would say I should listen before reacting. So, when the woman offered to buy me another drink, I sat back down.
“They’re planning on following you home,” Vern murmured, placing a glass in front of me.
“How do you know that?”
“I’m gifted. You could say I specialize in mind magic.”
Stiffening, I eyed him with new wariness. That’s how he knew I was lying; he could hear my thoughts. Vern nodded, answering my unasked question.
“I’m not concentrating on you,” he clarified. “I’m trying to watch them. I’m just picking up bits and pieces of everyone else. She’s—” He looked at the woman, “—not human either. She’s trying to decide if she should accompany you. You’re both going east.”
The elves were back to insulting me for another drink. I gritted my teeth, my anger and frustration bubbling over. I’d always been a hothead, but my emotions felt so volatile now. I hated them. I hated everything they stood for. Cordelia’s dead body flashed in my mind, and Vern couldn’t hide the horror on his face.
“Bicce!”
Beside me, the woman turned her attention to the elves.
“Don’t speak to her like that,” she growled.
Their group stopped their taunts, a thick, tense silence falling over the bar. Tensing, I prepared to defend her. She didn’t need to take up for me, but my hatred made the decision easy. I wanted to kill them all.
The elf scoffed in disbelief. Vern’s eyes widened in horror, and he reached out towards the hooded woman. I knew what was coming, and instead of waiting, I took action.
I’d always been a loose cannon, but these last few days had made me feel more unhinged than ever. Anger, sorrow, and hatred coiled tightly in my stomach, driving me insane. The nightmares. The heartache. Yoongi’s blank stare. Cordelia’s lifeless body in the flames. Jimin’s anguish. Sol’s betrayal. All of it consumed me, and for once, I didn’t try to stomp the flames out.
“Swígan!” I shouted, turning to face the elves. I had reached my limit. Knowing I had at least one other witch on my side, I felt emboldened. “Mieltan.”
The iron ring on my finger melted, searing my skin, but I hardly registered the burn. I shot the melted iron like a rocket, stabbing the elf who disrespected me through the chest. Dalion couldn’t scream. When I retracted the metal, there was a hole so large I could see through his body. The other three stared, mouths agape, before turning on me. The dead one fell to the floor with a thud.
The remaining elves rushed at me, their movements fluid and unnervingly synchronized. I didn’t hesitate. The iron ring, now a molten band around my finger, reshaped itself into a thin, sharp blade. I slashed at the closest elf, the blade slicing clean through his raised arm. Blue blood sprayed, and his scream was a piercing wail.
I spun, my instincts sharpened by adrenaline, and kicked another elf, the one who had defended me earlier, square in the chest, sending him crashing into a table. Wood splintered under his weight, and the patrons near him scrambled to get away. The third elf tried to grab me from behind, but I twisted, using the momentum to elbow him hard in the face. His nose crunched, blood spurting as he staggered back, clutching his face.
The elf with the severed arm was still screaming, trying to cast a spell with his remaining hand. I didn’t give him the chance. I lunged, driving the blade into his throat. His eyes widened, a gurgle escaping as he collapsed.
The elf I had kicked was back on his feet, rage contorting his features. He muttered an incantation, and I felt a wave of energy pulse towards me. Instinctively, I threw up a shield, the air crackling with the force of our opposing magics. My shield held, but I could feel the strain. I couldn’t let him overpower me. With a snarl, I pushed back, my magic flaring, and the shield exploded outward, knocking him off his feet.
Vern had been right about the woman. She was a shifter, and now her cloak had fallen away, revealing her true form. She was massive, her muscles rippling under her skin and a pair of black ears poked through her long, black hair. She let out a roar, leaping into the fray with a ferocity that matched my own. She tackled the elf who had been behind me, her nails elongating into claws that raked across his chest. He shrieked, trying to fend her off, but she was relentless, tearing into him with a savage precision.
The elf I had knocked down was getting back up, and I moved to intercept him. He cast another spell, a bolt of energy shooting towards me. I dodged, the bolt sizzling past my ear and scorching the wall behind me. I retaliated with a burst of fire, the flames engulfing him. He screamed, thrashing as the fire consumed him, and then he was silent, his charred body crumpling to the floor.
The last elf was still alive, barely. He was pinned under the woman, her claws at his throat. He looked up at me, eyes wide with fear. I walked over, the molten blade in my hand dripping with blue blood. I knelt down, meeting his gaze.
“You should have left me alone,” I said softly, before driving the blade into his heart.
The bar was silent now, the only sounds the crackling of the flames and the labored breathing of the survivors. The humans who were coherent enough to watch the altercation fled the bar screaming while the others were too drunk to care. I still had energy to burn, shaking with the force of my emotions. Too quickly. I wanted more time with them. I wanted to kill them again and again. I wanted to earn their hatred. I wanted—
“What’s your name?”
I looked at the hooded woman. Her face was covered in blood, and she smiled crookedly. She had deep, pitted dimples, and pieces of jewelry shone inside them.
"Y/N," I replied, keeping my voice steady.
"Lily," she said, giving me a small bow before standing up. Her muscles bulged and twitched with each movement, almost as tall as Jimin. Her hands were adorned with intricate tattoos, and her nails were a vivid ruby red. "Would you mind some company during your travels?"
"Do you know your way through Ozryn?" I asked, eyeing her warily.
She nodded. "I'm from Idris. I'm meeting some friends in the mountains."
Despite my earlier reluctance, this woman might be my only option for crossing the mountains safely. Assassin or not, she was offering her services, and my violent display earlier should deter any funny business. She might beat me in a physical fight, but I had magic on my side, fueled by enough emotional turmoil to last a lifetime. The fact that we were both shifters aided in my trust. We were both wanted citizens if the elves had anything to say about it, and her exposing herself made it hard to justify turning her away.
“You’re obviously a shifter,” I said, placing my remaining coins on the bar. Vern deserved the tip. He'd been an excellent server. "What are you?"
"Maned Wolf," she answered, already walking toward the bar exit. That meant she was half-wolf, half-fox. It would not surprise me if she was the last of her kind. "We should leave. Those humans have alerted the local police about your little... situation."
I looked at Vern, who was quick to agree with Lily’s plan. He would cover for us. Thanking him, I followed the huge woman out of the bar. She hadn't really answered my question, but given the circumstances, I let it slide. I had just murdered four people in a bar. I should have felt more shame, but I couldn't muster any. They killed Cordelia. They deserved it.
“We can collect your belongings from the inn and leave. Okay?”
I agreed. We moved quickly. No one was at the front desk when I entered, making sneaking upstairs a cakewalk. I threw my bag over my shoulder and grabbed the few personal items I had lying around. A deep sadness settled into my chest as I thought back to the fight. I hated flashbacks, but I was starting to realize there was something I disliked even more: myself.
I should have just left and minded my own business. That’s what Jimin would have done. A fight would be a last resort. Instead, I acted a fool for someone I didn’t even know, a woman whose face I couldn’t pick out in a lineup, who could easily have turned her back on me the moment I killed the first man. I didn’t stop to consider that someone else might have abandoned me back there. I was so used to being surrounded by people who loved me that hindsight was 20/20. This time, I had simply gotten lucky. If it had been anyone other than an elf I killed, they would have been disgusted by me. Hell, I felt disgusted by my actions.
Cordelia wouldn’t have been able to look me in the eye after a stunt like that.
Shaking myself out of my daze, I rushed back downstairs. Hannah was at the desk now, and three men wearing navy blue uniforms were crowding her. Quickly, I stopped and kept myself hidden in the shadows, body pressed against the wall as I listened in. They hadn’t heard my footsteps. Human ears were very weak.
“I told you I don’t have any witches staying here,” the human girl barked, clearly fed up with their interrogation. “The old man must have been confused. Vernon even said he was being ridiculous. Those elves were nowhere near the tavern.”
“Well, we can’t find them anywhere else, and it wasn’t just John. Betsy said she saw it happen as well.”
“Betsy?” Hannah drawled, placing her hands on her hips. “So you have a drunk and a schizophrenic's testimony? Have to say, Charles, I expected more from you.”
“Now Ms. Winslow—” one of the men attempted to speak, but Hannah flashed him a dark look. He quieted quickly.
“No,” she spoke in a bored, cold tone that reminded me of Yoongi. They even had the same unimpressed, irritated look. “The three of you came barging in here in the middle of the night, ranting and raving about a witch on the loose who, by the way, according to my records, does not exist. I don’t know where any of you got off waking me and my father at a time like this, but he’s far too sick to be dealing with this mess. So, either tell me a name I can work with or get the hell out. Your choice.”
I was impressed with the girl. She had to have known who they were searching for. I had suddenly popped up, and now you have four elves dead in a bar? Too coincidental. Still, she was covering for me, and I was grateful. It was a shame I was out of money.
“Sorry for your troubles, Hannah,” the man in the middle said, tipping his hat. “Hope Maurice feels better soon. We’ll go and ask Martha and Dawn about it. You could be right about the two kooks.”
I didn’t like the way they talked about John or Betsy. They might have been a bit odd, but they were not liars. I hoped their words wouldn’t get them into any trouble, at least not on my behalf. I’d much rather get arrested and escape than let anyone else get locked up. The policemen left, the wooden door slamming behind them.
“You can come out now.”
Walking the rest of the way down, I hoped my face conveyed how sorry I felt. I didn’t want anyone else inconvenienced because of me. Hannah, however, looked very happy. With a big smile, she greeted me. Lily crawled out from under the desk, hood still securely on, and patted the other girl’s head.
"Congratulations on winning your fight," the human drawled, dark hair tousled from just waking up.
"It's not something worth celebrating," I replied, handing my sack over to Lily when she held out her hand for it. "Thank you," I told the massive woman.
"You need a coat," the traveler demanded, her voice brooking no argument. "It's cold."
Opening my bag, she started digging around before finally landing on the cloak I bought this morning. It was heavy, lined in white fur, and beautifully handcrafted. The most expensive thing I bought next to the boots I was wearing. The outside of it had a beautiful ornate flower pattern spun in a delicate silver color, almost perfectly matching the shade of Jimin’s hair.
"This is nice," Lily commented absentmindedly, handing over the cloak. "Good purchase."
I tied it around my shoulders and charmed it like the rest of my clothes. Taking things on and off would take too much time in an emergency. Lily slung my bag over her shoulder like it weighed nothing, and I was glad to be rid of it. Flying would be easier without the annoyance of straps.
Then it hit me. I couldn't fly as quickly as I normally did. If I had a wolf hybrid traveling with me, I would need to travel in the only way she could. On foot. It was almost enough to make me second-guess bringing her along. Alas, I needed the extra hands, and a guide who knew the area was too good of a resource to flush down the drain. Traveling would take longer, but I would have a better chance at living through this.
"The best elves are the dead ones," Hannah yawned. "You should get going. They’re going to be looking for you all night. Vern cleaned up the mess already, so don’t worry about it. He sends his love."
I nodded. "Tell him if he wants to go back to Moland anytime soon, to stay east and travel down the Syrena River. Most of the witches are in Foxglove now. You both could find some protection there."
She smiled at me. "When my father is well enough for the journey, I’m positive that fool will be taking the two of us with him."
There was no mistaking the affection in her voice.
"You two…" I trailed off. "He loves you."
Thinking back to the moment she was brought up, I had not noticed the same tenderness in Vern’s voice. However, the fact that he had spoken to her about me in such great detail pointed to some sort of relationship. It being a romantic one made me unreasonably happy. They were both friends of mine, even if they did not see me in the same light. I was happy they were together. Witches and humans were not a typical pairing, but I could say the same about my own situation.
"Almost as much as I love him," she winked.
"We need to go," Lily gruffed, grabbing my arm. "I can hear them making their way back towards the inn," she frowned at Hannah. "They’re going to bother you for a little while. Sorry about the trouble."
"Like I said," she huffed, "You did everyone a favor. I don’t want to hear another word about it."
"Thank you," I told her. "For everything. Vern too."
"Go," she replied, shooing us away with her hands. "Go around the back. There’s a small nature reserve that stretches on for a few miles. Keep north before heading east. That should take you to Azamar Pass, but stay close to the volcano. They have encampments everywhere."
Azamar Pass was a small stretch of land connecting Lustra to the island where the Ula’re volcano rested. A large bridge connected it to Northorn and another to the land before the Ozryn mountains. It was likely the safest place for us to travel through despite the treacherous terrain. According to my maps, it was filled with hills and jagged cliffs that could kill you easily. Lily seemed confident enough, so I decided to follow her. She knew this place better than I ever did.
"I know the area well," Lily assured the girl. "We will be safe."
I had to trust she was telling the truth.
We slipped out the back, the night air biting through the fur-lined cloak. The reserve Hannah mentioned was darker than I expected, the thick canopy of trees blotting out the moonlight. We moved quickly, our breath fogging in the cold air. Lily led the way, her steps confident despite the uneven ground. I followed closely, every crunch of leaves underfoot setting my nerves on edge.
The silence between us stretched, only the sounds of our hurried steps and the occasional rustle of wildlife breaking it. My mind raced, replaying the events of the night. I had always been a hothead, but tonight felt different. It wasn't just anger that drove me, but a deeper, more consuming fury. Cordelia’s death had changed something in me, twisted a part of my soul that I wasn’t sure I could ever untangle.
"Are you alright?" Lily’s voice broke through my thoughts. She had stopped and was looking back at me, her eyes sharp even in the dim light.
"Yeah," I lied, not trusting myself to say more.
She studied me for a moment, then nodded. "We’re almost there. Azamar Pass is just beyond these woods."
I nodded, swallowing the lump in my throat. We continued on, the terrain growing steeper as we neared the pass. The ground beneath our feet turned rocky, the air heavy with the scent of sulfur. The volcano loomed in the distance, a dark silhouette against the night sky.
We reached the edge of the reserve and paused, taking in the sight before us. The pass was a narrow strip of land, flanked by jagged cliffs and treacherous drops. It was more daunting in person than it had seemed on my maps.
"Stay close," Lily warned, her voice low. "The winds can be brutal up here, and the paths are narrow."
We started across, the wind immediately whipping at our clothes and hair. I pulled my cloak tighter around me, every step a fight against the elements. Lily moved with the grace of someone who had done this a hundred times before, her large frame somehow slipping through the narrowest of paths with ease.
Halfway across, the ground trembled beneath our feet, a low rumble emanating from the volcano. I froze, fear clutching at my heart. Lily glanced back, her expression unreadable.
"Keep moving," she urged. "It’s just a tremor."
I forced myself to keep going, each step feeling like an eternity. The path seemed to go on forever, the cliffs on either side closing in like the jaws of some great beast. By the time we reached the other side, my legs were shaking and my lungs burned from the effort.
We collapsed on the ground, the safety of solid land a welcome relief. Lily pulled out a canteen and handed it to me. I took a grateful sip, the water cool and refreshing.
"Thank you," I said, my voice hoarse.
She nodded, wiping sweat from her brow. "We need to keep moving. There’s a cave not far from here where we can rest for the night."
We got to our feet and continued on, the landscape gradually shifting from rocky terrain to dense forest once more. The trees grew thicker, their branches intertwining overhead to form a natural canopy that blocked out most of the sky. The sounds of the forest began to surround us—the rustle of leaves, the distant calls of nocturnal creatures, and the occasional snap of a twig underfoot. The path ahead was narrow and winding, forcing us to move in single file, with Lily leading the way.
After what felt like hours, the cave Lily had mentioned came into view, a dark, yawning mouth in the side of a moss-covered hill. The entrance was partially hidden by overgrown vines and thick underbrush, making it almost invisible to the casual observer. We ducked inside, and the temperature dropped noticeably, the cool, damp air enveloping us like a shroud. The cave was surprisingly spacious, with a high ceiling that echoed our footsteps as we ventured further in.
Lily set down my bag and immediately began gathering kindling for a fire, her movements quick and efficient. I watched her as she worked, unable to shake the feeling that there was something otherworldly about her. Despite her petite frame, she moved with a precision and grace that spoke of years spent surviving in the wild. Her hands were steady and sure as she arranged the twigs and branches, and within minutes, she had a small fire crackling to life.
As the flames grew, casting flickering shadows on the cave walls, I couldn't help but study her more closely. Her face, illuminated by the firelight, seemed both young and ancient, with eyes that held secrets I couldn't begin to fathom. There was a quiet strength in her, a resilience that I envied.
"Why are you helping me?" I asked finally, breaking the silence that had settled between us.
She paused, looking up from her task, her eyes meeting mine with an intensity that made me shiver. "Because you need it," she said simply. "And because I’ve been where you are."
I frowned, not understanding. "Where I am?"
She nodded, her expression softening. "Lost. Angry. Searching for something you can’t quite name."
Her words hit closer to home than I cared to admit. I looked away, the weight of the night's events pressing down on me once more. The memories of the fire, the screams, and the feeling of helplessness washed over me, and I had to fight to keep my composure.
"You don’t have to do this alone," she continued, her voice gentle but firm. "Whatever it is you’re searching for, it’s out there. But you won’t find it by tearing yourself apart."
I didn’t know what to say, the truth of her words cutting through my defenses. For the first time in a long while, I felt a glimmer of hope. Perhaps she was right. Perhaps there was a way forward that didn’t involve self-destruction.
"Get some rest," she said, her tone softening even further. "We have a long journey ahead of us."
I nodded, lying down on the cool ground, using my bag as a makeshift pillow. The fire's warmth was comforting, and the sound of the crackling flames was soothing. As I closed my eyes, exhaustion finally overtaking me, I couldn't help but feel that maybe, just maybe, I wasn't as alone as I thought.
I couldn't see past the smoke. It was a roiling, black mass, punctuated by brilliant yellow flames that danced like demons in the night. Shiloh's voice cut through the chaos, a desperate cry reaching out through the suffocating darkness, pleading for me to return. Inside, the screams were a cacophony of terror and anguish, and I ran, my small feet pounding the earth as I shouted for Auntie. Shiloh's cries grew louder behind me, but I ignored her, driven by a singular need to reach the cottage. I had to get to Aldara.
The distance stretched endlessly, the screams crescendoed, and Shiloh's voice became an unbearable buzz in my ears. I was sobbing, calling Aldara's name, feeling the forest around me weep. The spirits that had once tormented me now seemed my only solace, and I crumpled to the ground. No matter how desperately I tried, the cottage remained out of reach. Then, from the corner of my eye, I saw it—a movement that made my breath catch.
There it was, not even ten yards away—a large, midnight-black wolf with eyes like burning coals. The firelight cast a grotesque glow on its face, revealing a blood-stained muzzle. In its mouth was an arm, the ring on it gleaming malevolently. Anger surged within me, turning my vision red as I focused on the ring—a skull etched in fiery orange and yellow. Before I could stop myself, I was chanting a spell, my voice echoing through the forest. Somewhere in the distance, a wolf howled in response.
The wolf dropped the arm and snarled, its eyes locked on mine. The air crackled with energy, the spell building inside me, threatening to tear me apart from the inside out. The wolf lunged, and I screamed, the spell bursting forth in a torrent of raw power. The ground shook, the trees groaned, and the wolf was thrown back, its body slamming into a tree with a sickening crunch.
I collapsed, the spell having drained every ounce of strength from my body. The forest fell silent, the only sound my ragged breathing. I crawled towards the cottage, my limbs trembling, my vision swimming. The smoke began to clear, and I could see the outline of the cottage through the haze.
Aldara lay on the ground, her body limp, her face pale. I reached her side, my hands shaking as I tried to rouse her. Her eyes fluttered open, and she looked at me, a weak smile playing on her lips.
"You did it," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the crackling flames. "You saved us."
I nodded, tears streaming down my face. The forest had fallen silent, the spirits watching us with a newfound respect. I had faced the darkness and emerged victorious, but at what cost?
As the first light of dawn broke through the trees, I held Aldara close, the weight of the night's events settling on my shoulders. The forest might have been our home, but it was also a place of danger and despair. And I knew, deep down, that this was only the beginning.
But then everything started to change. The flames flickered and became stars in a velvet sky. The trees twisted and turned, transforming into towering figures that whispered secrets in a language I couldn’t understand. Shiloh's voice turned into a soft lullaby, and the ground beneath me felt like the softest bed I had ever known.
Aldara’s form began to shimmer and fade, her features blurring as if she were being drawn away by an unseen hand. "You must go," she said, her voice echoing like a distant melody. "This world is not for you."
I tried to hold on to her, but my hands passed through her like smoke. The stars above began to swirl, forming a spiral that pulled me upwards, away from the forest, away from the cottage. I was weightless, floating, the screams and flames and shadows all fading into a soft, gentle darkness.
I awoke with a start, the remnants of the dream slipping away like shadows at dawn. The morning light streamed through the cave entrance, illuminating the damp stone walls and casting eerie shapes that danced in the corners of my vision. I lay there, struggling to piece together the fragments of a nightmare that felt all too real. But no matter how hard I tried, the details eluded me, leaving only a lingering sense of unease and the whisper of a name.
"You okay?" Lily's voice broke through the fog, soft yet insistent. I blinked, shaking off the last vestiges of the dream. The cool, damp air of the cave was a grounding contrast to the surreal horrors still echoing in my mind.
"Yeah," I replied, my voice hoarse. "Just a bad dream."
Lily studied me, her eyes narrowing slightly as if she could see through my flimsy facade. But she didn’t press the issue. Instead, she handed me a piece of bread and some dried fruit, which I accepted gratefully.
"We should get moving soon," she said, her tone matter-of-fact. "The sooner we leave, the better our chances of staying ahead."
I nodded, chewing slowly as my thoughts lingered on the dream, the name echoing like a distant drumbeat in my mind.
We packed up quickly, the remnants of the fire reduced to ashes that Lily expertly scattered with her foot. Outside, the forest was waking up, the early morning light filtering through the leaves and casting a soft, golden glow on everything. Birds chirped, and small creatures rustled in the underbrush, weaving a tapestry of normalcy that stood in stark contrast to the turmoil roiling inside me.
As we began to walk, the path ahead seemed clearer, more defined. It was as if the forest itself was guiding us, the trees parting just enough to show the way. I fell into step behind Lily, my thoughts drifting back to her words from the night before: lost, angry, searching for something you can't quite name.
"Can I ask you something?" I ventured after a while, breaking the silence.
"Sure," Lily replied, not turning around, her attention focused on the path ahead.
"Why are you going east?"
She hesitated, tension knotting in her shoulders. "I’m trying to find my daughter," she said finally, her voice low. "We got separated when the incursion started up north. I have some friends in Ozryn who might know where to find her."
"I'm sorry," I said, not knowing what else to offer. The weight of loss was something I understood all too well. “I hope she’s alright.”
"I’m sure she is," Lily continued, her voice softening. "I don’t like being away from her, but I know she can take care of herself. I’m just being cautious with the elves in the area."
“I’ll help you find her,” I promised, a sudden surge of determination filling me. “Once I’ve done what I came here to do.”
Lily chuckled, a sound tinged with both gratitude and disbelief. “Thanks, kid. But I don’t think we’ll need your help. Tinka can’t hide from me.”
“But I’m indebted to you,” I insisted. “It’s the least I can do.”
“You’re assisting me during my journey. You don’t have a debt as long as you do that magic thing and slice and dice whatever gets in our way.”
We walked in silence for a while, the forest around us providing a comforting backdrop to our shared grief. There was something about being in nature that made the pain more bearable, as if the trees and the earth could absorb some of the sorrow that threatened to overwhelm us.
After a few hours, we reached a clearing with a small stream gurgling through it. The water was crystal clear, the gentle sound of it flowing over the rocks soothing my frayed nerves. We stopped to rest, filling our water bottles, the cool water a welcome relief against the weight of our thoughts.
As I splashed some on my face, the chill sent a jolt of clarity through me, a reminder that life continued to flow, regardless of the chaos that swirled around us. And for a brief moment, I felt the edges of my turmoil soften, blending into the rhythm of the world around us.
As we sat by the stream, the water rushing over smooth stones like whispered secrets, Lily reached into her pack and pulled out a small, leather-bound book. She began writing in it with a pen unlike any I had ever seen—a sharp blade at the end, glimmering as it danced across the page without needing a drop of ink.
“Why are you going to the mountains?” she asked, her voice carrying an edge of curiosity.
“I’m looking for someone,” I replied, staring at the water’s surface, its reflections shifting like memories just out of reach. “Someone important to me said I needed to find her.”
“Let me guess,” Lily sighed, her tone a blend of weariness and knowing. “Naida?”
“How did you…?”
“She’s the only thing out there worth hunting down,” the hybrid drawled, pulling her hood down to reveal ears the color of rust, tipped in black, and hair that cascaded like ink down her shoulders. “Must be needing Khione. Do you know what for?”
I cleared my throat, the words heavy with significance. “I’m trying to get extra help in the south. I was told they might be able to assist us.”
Lily laughed, but it was a humorless sound, tinged with bitterness. “Naida might. Khione? I doubt it. That old bitch doesn’t do anything except fuck the little whores she keeps in her castle while my friends starve in those mountains.”
I stared at her, taken aback by the rawness of her words, the pain wrapped around them like a vine. “That’s quite a reputation she has.”
Lily’s expression hardened, the air thickening with her disdain. “Reputation? It’s the truth. Khione has power, sure, but it comes with a price. She doesn’t help anyone unless there’s something in it for her. If you’re seeking aid, you’d better be prepared to pay dearly for it.”
“What do you mean?” I asked, a knot of anxiety tightening in my stomach.
Lily leaned back against a tree, her gaze drifting to the rushing water, as if searching for answers in its depths. “She’s got a knack for making deals that trap you. You think you’re getting help, but it’s usually a trap. You could end up worse off than before.”
I let her words sink in, the implications wrapping around my mind like a cold fog. “So, what do you suggest? Just forget about it?”
“No,” she said, her voice firm, slicing through my doubts. “I’m just saying to be cautious. If you really think Naida can help, go to her. But if Khione is involved… just be ready for anything.”
“What do you know about Naida?” I pressed, desperate for any insight that might illuminate my path.
“She’s a force to be reckoned with,” Lily replied, her tone shifting slightly, like the wind before a storm. “A protector of the mountains, they say. If anyone can help us, it might be her. But she’s not easily found, and even harder to convince. You’ll need to prove yourself worthy of her time.”
I nodded, determination battling with trepidation in my chest. “I’ll do whatever it takes.”
Lily studied me for a moment, her expression softening. “I believe you. Just remember, you’re not alone in this. We’ll figure it out together.”
“Together,” I echoed, warmth spreading through me at the reassurance. It was comforting to know I had someone by my side who understood the stakes.
We resumed our journey, the path growing steeper as we ventured deeper into the forest. The sun climbed higher, casting dappled shadows on the ground, and the air was thick with the scent of pine and earth—invigorating yet heavy with the weight of our conversations.
As we navigated the terrain, our topic shifted to lighter matters, and I found myself laughing at Lily’s sarcastic quips about the creatures of the forest. Her spirit was contagious, and the laughter felt good, a welcome reprieve from the tension that had settled in my bones.
Eventually, we reached a vantage point overlooking a vast expanse of mountains in the distance. The peaks were shrouded in mist, an ethereal quality lending them an almost otherworldly presence. I could almost feel the pull of Khione’s castle lurking somewhere among them, a siren’s call promising both danger and salvation—a promise that felt too heavy to bear.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long, creeping shadows across the ground, we stumbled upon another cave. This one was smaller, cozier, and had a natural chimney that promised to keep the night’s chill at bay. The entrance was framed by thick vines and moss, giving it an almost hidden quality, like a secret the forest had kept for itself. As we stepped inside, the air was cool and damp, a welcome relief from the heat of the day, and soon we had a fire crackling to life, its flickering light casting playful shadows against the damp stone walls.
Settled by the fire, I pulled out the remnants of our meager supplies while Lily rummaged through her pack. The warmth enveloped us, creating an intimate cocoon as we prepared a simple meal from what little we had left. The aroma of the dried meat she had brought wafted into the air, mixing with the earthy scent of the cave.
“You’re a vegetarian?” Lily laughed, a sound rich with amusement that echoed around us, almost like a melody bouncing off the walls.
“Yes. Do you have any nuts?” I replied, attempting to keep my tone casual despite the slight twist of discomfort in my stomach at the thought of what she might offer.
Lily shook her head, still chuckling. “That won’t keep you healthy, little one. Have some rabbit. I killed it yesterday.”
Her words hung in the air like a challenge. I recoiled as she brought the dried meat closer, the odor hitting me like a wave of something unpleasant—savage and primal. “Ugh,” I flinched away, my face contorting in distaste.
Her laughter deepened, a hearty sound that seemed to vibrate within the cave’s very stones. “Don’t make that face,” she teased, her voice rich with mirth. “I have a pack of nuts and mushrooms in my bag.”
I caught the bag she tossed my way, the soft thud of it landing in my hands almost comforting. “Thanks,” I said, rifling through the contents. “You know, not everyone can be a barbarian like you.”
“Barbarian?” she replied, raising an eyebrow, a smirk dancing on her lips. “Just because I prefer my meals with a bit more substance doesn’t make me a barbarian.”
“Sure, whatever you say,” I replied, rolling my eyes as I munched on a handful of nuts, their earthy taste grounding me. “But seriously, rabbit? Did you have to?”
Lily chuckled again, the firelight illuminating her features with a warm glow, casting playful shadows on her face. “You’re too soft. A little meat might toughen you up.”
“I’m plenty tough,” I shot back, more defensively than I intended. “I just don’t see the need to eat something that was hopping around yesterday.”
“Oh, I see. You’re a sensitive soul, aren’t you?” Her sarcasm dripped like honey, thick and sweet, teasing at my vulnerabilities.
“Just practical,” I countered, crossing my arms as I met her gaze. “I like my food to be, you know, not staring at me with big, sad eyes.”
Lily laughed again, a rich, genuine sound that resonated off the cave walls. “You’re a riot. Alright, sensitive soul, eat your nuts. I’ll enjoy my rabbit.” She leaned back against the cave wall, her posture relaxed yet ready.
I shook my head, unable to suppress a smile. “One day, you’ll see the benefits of a vegetarian diet.”
“Doubtful,” she said, a playful challenge in her eyes. “But hey, I’ll give you this—you’ve got guts. I like that.”
“Thanks, I guess,” I replied, feeling an unexpected sense of camaraderie despite our bickering. “I could say the same about you.”
“Oh, you’re just full of compliments tonight,” she quipped, mock bowing as if accepting an award. “What did I do to deserve such praise?”
I laughed, the tension of the day easing like the fire’s warmth. “Just being you, I suppose.”
“Well, aren’t you sweet,” she said, though her eyes sparkled with warmth, a glimmer of something deeper beneath the surface. For a fleeting moment, it felt like we were both trying to shield ourselves from the weight of the world outside, a world filled with uncertainty and danger.
We settled into a comfortable silence, the crackling fire providing a soothing backdrop to our thoughts. Despite the teasing, there was an ease between us, a shared understanding that felt almost sacred in the dim light of the cave. She reminded me of a blend of Cordelia and Thelma—strong yet nurturing, the kind of ally you wished for in times of darkness.
As I lay down to sleep, the flickering flames began to blur into shadows, and a sense of peace washed over me—something I hadn’t felt in far too long. The nightmare from the night before felt like a distant echo, a whisper that faded with the growing warmth of the fire. I found comfort in the knowledge that whatever challenges awaited, I wouldn’t have to face them alone.
I glanced at Lily, illuminated by the firelight, her features softening as she lost herself in thought. There was a hint of sorrow in the lines around her mouth, a weathered quality I hadn’t fully appreciated until this moment. Her eyes were distant, reflecting something that felt ancient and haunting, as if they held stories of their own.
“Didn’t anyone ever tell you that swearing is rude?” she barked suddenly, her gaze flicking to me with playful accusation.
I closed my eyes, feeling a flush of embarrassment. “Once or twice.”
“Sleep, little one. I’ll try to keep your nightmares away.” Her tone was softer now, as if she understood the weight of my weariness.
My eyes snapped back open at her words. Lily noticed my surprise and smiled gently, a transformation that made her appear ten years younger, the burden of her past momentarily lifted.
“You were crying,” she said softly, concern lacing her words.
“I’m sorry,” I mumbled, shame flooding my cheeks, wishing I could pull the memories of my fears back into the depths of my mind.
“I have nightmares, too. One day, I’ll tell you why they haunt me and why they never leave. But for now, let me share how I manage to survive them.”
Lily pulled a band from her wrist and swept her hair into a messy ponytail. The movement highlighted her tall, pointed ears, a feature that now seemed almost majestic in the firelight. I couldn’t help but wonder about the rest of her—a creature born of both human and something wild, a mixture of strength and vulnerability hidden beneath her baggy clothes.
“On bad mornings, it feels impossible to enjoy anything because I’m terrified it could vanish. So, I play a little game: I make a mental list of every act of kindness I’ve witnessed. I just do it over and over again. It gets tedious, but after doing it for so long, you get used to it. There are worse games to play.”
Her words settled between us, a fragile bridge built from shared pain. Whatever shadows haunted her, it was clear she wouldn’t share them tonight. I was too wrapped up in my own swirling thoughts to consider her horrors—too many fears to confront, too many questions I didn’t want to voice. I didn’t think she was hoping for anything from me, anyway; she seemed content to offer her wisdom without demanding answers in return.
“Wake me if you have them,” I whispered into the darkness, feeling a strange sense of connection in the quiet. “I can try my best to keep yours away, too.”
“Thank you. You’re very sweet,” she replied, and her sincerity made my stomach twist with unease; if only she knew how wrong she was.
I rolled over, facing away from her, the warmth of her words lingering in the air like a promise. “Go to bed. We have a long day tomorrow,” she said, her voice fading into the quiet.
Lily hummed softly, but I couldn’t hear her moving around. Giving up on being social, I closed my eyes and willed myself into sleep.
As I drifted further away from consciousness, the last thing I saw was the silhouette of a deer gliding through the trees, its antlers twisted into a heart-like shape against the dusky sky. I lay there, watching the creature as I sank deeper into slumber, just on the brink of nothingness when I felt Lily shuffle closer.
“Idiot forgot about a blanket,” she murmured, and suddenly I was enveloped in warmth, her presence a comforting shield against the unknown that lurked outside the cave.
The warmth wrapped around me like a tender embrace, and I could no longer hold my eyes open. Just before sleep fully claimed me, I felt the stirrings of peace settle into my bones, allowing me to drift away into the safety of dreams—where the forest would guard my heart for just a little while longer.
