Thinking about how Leo’s portal and teleportation powers have both directly (and in one instance, indirectly) been the cause of him being separated from his brothers at least four times now.

There’s that time in Portal Jacked, where his inexperience leads to his portal being messed with and his brothers ending up in Tahiti.

There’s the Bad Timeline, where Leo’s portaling led to them losing the Key, therefore indirectly leading to the apocalypse and in turn, ending with Leo being the last of his brothers alive (though just for a few minutes.)

There’s him teleporting him and Krang into the Prison Dimension, cutting him off from his family so wholly that the only way to fix this was a literal mystic miracle.

Then there’s the comic, where Leo’s powers act up again and make him lose months of time completely isolated from everyone and everything he knows.

Just, looking at all of this, it’s like the universe gave him the powers of distance on purpose to test him (and his bros), literally seeing if they can overcome unimaginable space and still make it back together. Imagine if it doesn’t stop here, and Leo has to learn to either deal with the occasional complete isolation or deal with time travelers coming back to stop some terrible event his powers (whether directly or indirectly) have caused, events that always lead to separation in some way, shape, or form.

It’s worth noting, too, that his portals often led to accidental separation, but his teleportation was the one power of his that was used to isolate himself on purpose…and was also the one that in any other scenario would have been the most permanent.

Throwing my hat into the elves and culture discussion, I think one of the things that I find most... upsetting is _what_ Bioware took from Judaism to make their elves. Which is to say, not a lot. What they took was Jewish history - ghettos, diaspora, and blood libel. The bad parts. Stuff about our oppression. Not stuff from Judaism as a religion or Jews as a culture. We don't get to see elves celebrate any cognates to Jewish holidays. There's no equivalent of kashrut or Yiddish or Ladino (despite that not making sense with the Dales being around for four centuries). The two most defining features of Dragon Age elves, the vallaslin and the Evanuris, directly contradict Jewish teachings. Jews started writing down our history and laws as soon as we lost our homeland and independence to Babylon, but it's written into the fabric of Dragon Age that the elves didn't, and their story is one of obtaining a lost past, not preserving a remembered one. It's even indicated that the city elves largely worship the Maker.

In thoughtful hands this could be a story about how Jews are seen as a religion when it's convenient to oppress us one way and a race when it's convenient to oppress us another, but it's not. Instead the impression I am left with is that in the mind of Dragon Age, Jews are defined solely by our oppression.

this came up earlier when an anon asked about making an elven oc from a (marginalised) cultural context they themselves aren’t from and i think it always comes down to a question of whether oppression and suffering are the only things you’re interested in or whether you care enough to learn about community, family and joy. and bioware seems to fail to clear this bar every time it comes to the elves.

i truly think some of the most incredible work in this fandom has come from fans putting those things back into the setting.

Hello! I'm sorry if this is a rude thing to ask, but I think I remember you saying that you've been drawing ever since you were very young. I'm curious, did you draw on paper back then? Or have you always been drawing digitally? Do you still draw with pen and paper? Or do you have a better grasp with digital art these days? Because your pieces are absolutely gorgeous (like genuinely incredible, the details in then have me absolutely swooning), I was wondering if you can draw the same on pen and paper. As you can probably tell by now, I'm not an artist, so I don't really know if people drawing digitally can draw the same way traditionally, haha.

I'm really sorry if any of these things are rude, it's really not my intention! I'm genuinely just curious about the way you draw! I've always had a certain admiration for artists of any kind, and your pieces have me dropping my jaw (in a good way, I promise!)

Even if you don't respond to this ask, I just wanted to tell you that you're incredibly good at drawing and that I am genuinely looking forward to your novel! As a writer, I am cheering for you! And once the novel comes out I think I might just write a fanfic or two based on your characters to give something back for all those incredible pieces you have created and shared with us! I *have* been drawing since I was a kid, and yes! I used to draw exclusively on paper for a looooong time. Back then, I mostly did pencil pieces (either regular or colored pencil and sometimes charcoal (gahh!)) And I used to draw on my bedroom floor in the worst position imaginable, lol

Since turning to digital art, I rarely do traditional pieces anymore :// I can't say I'd be able to achieve the same level of realism that I can get with digital, and I've come to rely on the ease and practicality of just having my tablet to draw with. That being said...I wouldn't mind trying to go back and do some pencil or watercolor stuff in the future..🤔

For reference, here are some pieces I did as a wee teen (some of these are from ~15 years ago..welp 🙃):

As you can see, these are still pretty detailed. But there's still more I can achieve in terms of color and adjustment using a digital platform 👍

Ended up making a wof character when I was away from the house yesterday. Haven’t used procreate in ages so I had to make myself a new brush for it lol

Got home and redrew her on csp, think I’m gonna name her Mirage (she’s a sandwing/icewing hybrid). I honestly just really wanted to make a sandwing oc with the headshape I’ve been messing around with for a headcanon. Then the visual addition of icewing features sounded super cool (ahah).
