karasu would prob a little worked up merely bc now he feels left behind as he’s the only person in the loft that doesn’t engage with that stuff. gets all mama bird like; asks you what their name is, what they do, if they’re tested on the basis of just making sure you know what you’re doing 👍👍 if reader brings them over he Will glare daggers at them when they pass by the night of. if they have good survival skills they’ll leave before karasu can catch them in the morning and pry at them as he wakes up the earliest HAHAH

at firsf, yukimiya just smiles and tells you to have fun, stay safe, to not be too loud, his eyes going to flicker at otoya. then secretly conspires with karasu to figure out who this person and good grip on them. finds all their social media and will judge them based on his findings. “They have a gap between their resume? That’s peculiar…” he’ll mutter as he scrolls thru linkedin.

so sometimes they get a little freaked out when you introduce them to ur roommates and not understanding why this strange model knows about their high school. you’d think it’s otoya who drives away all your dates—you’d never suspect it’s sweet-faced, soft-spoken yukki whose doing all the deterring bahaha

Thank you for getting me to finally try pixel art! I‘ve always wanted to get into pixel art but I never knew what to start with and always ended up procrastinating. Your blog and the post you made on learning pixel art were what finally pushed me to give it a go. It was really helpful and I managed this little animation in Libresprite.

I definitely want to improve and your art is like the ultimate goal lol. Do you have any tips or instructions for how to get better or on what to focus on in the future? I‘d appreciate any kind of criticism/input you are willing to give! How do you manage to make such gigantic and beautiful landscapes?

i can help a little with animation stuff but i'm not an expert, ill write something out about backgrounds at the end

i hope you don't mind but i edited the sprite a little, just to illustrate some stuff

🤺Animation stuff

i added an extra frame near the top of the arc so it slows down. this is called ease or slow in/out and usually happens at the beginning and end of movements. u can do even more slow but this is just a quick version

i also removed the middle frame (where the tail is straight down) to make the swing appear a bit more powerful. this could be the principle of timing in the same video. you can exaggerate smears if you do this, its up to you!! lately i tend to exaggerate stuff a lot, things arent super noticable in motion

i also got a good bit of advice from nickwoz that helped me, basically when you begin to animate, it really puts the rest of the sprite being still into focus. try to think of how you could animate other parts of the body, even subtly. and sometimes if individual pixels stay still they can catch the eye in an unintended way as well, just keep it in mind!!

if you want to learn animation more, you could take a look at duelyst sprites, they have incredible idle and ability animations, i study them a lot

heres one i downloaded a long time ago. i recommend just downloading stuff you like and looking at it!! i have a huge collection of pixel inspo. slowing animations down can really help you understand whats going on. its just a bunch of simple elements put together that makes it look so good.

it looks like you have art experience already, but im gonna talk as if youre a complete noob cos it might help some other people who read this!! ur doing great 👍

❓ how to learn: study (and practise a lot)

what i mean by study: draw it, copy it, try to understand it. you can try to change characteristics about it. changing the angle or lighting can help u understand how something works in 3 dimensions.

sometimes it takes time, dont worry, you will figure out your own style through doing studies, its all a process

❓ how to draw landscape details?

study pixel artists and how they do it recommendations: fool, slym, jubilee, deceiver

also please look at real world references!! you got to build that visual library

❓ how to learn composition?

study traditional artists or animation. i did a ton of studies of ghibli backgrounds which i think helped my growth a lot recommendations: arcane, studio ghibli, traditional painters

im gonna break down a piece as well and maybe that will help. this is one from 2022 but its still one of my most popular and its pretty simple too!!

if we remove all the fancy stuff what we have is actually really simple. just a few large, overlapping shapes that all point towards our focal point. it's the brightest area with the most contrast and many edges point into it.

go to pinterest or google and just search "pretty landscape" or "mountains" or something and you can see what i'm doing is nothing special or unique!! break it down into bigger shapes to begin with, its just different areas of material mostly.

and heres how you can make any landscape from any colours. purple sky or mountain? orange grass? ok !! it all works, it doesnt matter. i just blend the colours.

when parts of the landscape are in the distance they become closer to the sky colour as there is more "sky" in between you and it. its called atmospheric perspective. so if the sky was red, the clouds would fade towards red.

OKKK i dont know what else to say so i hope that helps!! honestly 90% of what i do is intuitive and hard for me to really explain, so you dont have to know The Rules, you just kind of pick up stuff as you go.

you know how cats have those scruffs on the back of their necks? Kwazii probably has one.

imagine he's telling Peso about some creepy sea monster myth but then someone sneaks up behind him and pinches the scruff on his neck. he proceeds to start purring while his pupils dilate like crazy and its fricking hilarious.

Actually, this might be true if he was a kitten, but as cats grow older not only do they lose the placating effect when being held by the scruff (they will be EXTREMELY stressed out more often than not) but it also gains a new purpose.

Alot of animals have different survival tactics when it comes to dealing with personal enemies or larger animals coming for your neck. The cat method is "if u grab the extra skin on my neck,I can still fully turn around and scratch you and bite you, you thought u had me pinned huh? Well you're wrong get ready for a world of pain I'm flexible btch" and honestly "I'm flexible btch" is probably like 87% of how cats survive and fight lmsoo

(The only other time that the scruff is bitten by another adult cat in a less violent content is during mating :/ )

However! I get the feeling what you're looking for is that wide pupil purring effect��- which catnip *can* induce! When cats *smell* catnip its very stimulating and can give a sense of happiness which makes them super affectionate and playful (and generally hyperactive)

Irl cat behaviour for this would mean stuff like rolling around, rubbing against stuff and people, and just being silly and playful in general.If a cat *eats* catnip it can have a more soothing effect that makes them calm and even a lil sleepy yk? So the latter is probably what ur looking for

Catnip doesn't actually give cats a "high" like humans understand it btw because they don't really have negative side effects to their health (the smell just has chemical combos that feel like feline pheromones that make em feel happy) and they also can't become addicted to it.

Additional information is that only like 60% of cats can even be effected by catnip due to a certain gene they have👍 kittens also aren't effected by catnip btw 🤷‍♀️ its possible that one of the evolutionary reasons for cats like to rub against catnip is because catnip is just a bit of a natural bug repellent which is great for wild cats

Yeah this just turned into me infodumping about cats and cat nip lollll, but ur idea is very funny to me lol, the idea of a lil kitten doing something mischievous and then they just get yoinked MID MISCHEIF and become lil zoned out purring happy guy? 10/10 wonderful incredible top tier, we love to see it every time 👏👏👏

For a similar gag u could make him very susceptible to having his hair brushed or being held- despite him "being an adult" lol. Also alot of cats like to be squished (correctly)

the rest of this post is a fuckign ramble bc im just very excited that someone is engaged by the poetry/vision of these guyz, so feel free to skip it LOL. anyways yeah thanx & i hope ur taking care of urself and thanks 4 taking the time out to say this.

i think this song is among their most cohesive & effective examples of conveying an extremely specific life-defining concept via very discordant, fast, tangential lyrics. every part of this song is the pinnacle of a lot of shit coming together into a horrible, beautiful whole thing. i wanna do more vids like this soon bc i love doing lyrical analysis & dose/why? are a treasure trove for that shit. i love analysis in general lol.

dose has a lot to say about a lot of things around him, & tends to ramble incredibly quickly/in a way difficult to parse literal meaning from a lot of the time. it's very abstract about its concepts via hyperspecificity of unrealistic things, hypotheticals, and the juxtaposition is fascinating to me.

i think he tries to evoke profound & very visceral questions/thoughts through abstract visuals & words & *feeling*, to give commentary on society, status, fame, work, & art. it's extremely hard to find written lyrics to dose's songs and he often makes himself difficult to understand on purpose.

i think "mannequin hand trapdoor i reminder" and "a tale of apes 1"/"2" are good examples of this. when you look at the lyrics and their flow they are extremely difficult to follow, but convey a very specific "impression" to pull apart that says something about the world.

why? is kind of the opposite. while he's definitely very good at using abstract imagery/metaphor to give an impression (and does so often), he's very obsessed with himself. especially his flaws/suffering/destructive tendencies.

his voice is always plain to hear & easy to follow. he focusses on rlly concrete and (again) hyperspecific visuals and words, but they're rarely abstract or unreal, and they're very unique to him. they're used to invoke a higher statement about human condition in the listener by being a vent of his own *exceedingly* human condition.

his descriptions tend to get very gross & repulsive at times. he frames moments to the finest detail to really locate and convey a sense of greater meaning. while leaving a lot to interpretation, he always very clearly broadcasts himself; his thoughts, feelings, and memories are clearly the source of everything he writes. he's his own muse. there's a lot of great examples of what i mean but "whispers into the other", (edit) "bad entropy", & "the hollows" are some of my favourites lyrically. shoutout to "into the shadows of my embrace" which imo perfectly encapsulates the way he uses music to express shit.

both of them tend to write in a way that feels like someone spilling their guts out. very carnal and visceral. and they're both fucking wizards at metaphors.

i think collabing with why? grounds dose's lyrics into a more concrete & identifiable context, because why? has always had this incredible ability to make very mundane things feel like they have a huge artistic meaning.

also is it clear from these why they're very strider-esque (and vantasian) to me?

thank you for the kind words... honestly was not having the best of days today so this cheered me up a bit :'D and, i don't really know when i started drawing? i've been doing it as a child, doing digital art for fun starting 12 y/o- i just know i started taking it "seriously" around a year ago (striving to improve more than the usual i guess)... i just drew stuff i really liked, honestly! i mostly drew a lot of furry/anthro/pokemon stuff growing up but my gateway to drawing "anime" was when i watched girls last tour in 2017-2018. the artstyle was simple enough for me to transition into understanding humans more (?)... additional note: one of my biggest advice to people starting drawing is your shit will fucking suck but that's because your eyes learn faster than your hands. if you keep drawing, you'll train them to be around the same eventually. think of it as race between your brain skills and your hand skills, i think! (also thank you-- i don't think i've ever gotten told i was an artstyle inspo lol? that's new)

How would you characterize modern day Japan’s relationship with China and Korea? I’d love to hear your thoughts! Ps. Love your art

KFLDHGF JK JK... this is quite a question though 💦 Honestly fairly rocky I'd imagine, but they do hang out. I think there's a contrast between Korchu complaining about Japan and the three of them going to karaoke and drinking together. Inevitably they're going to have a decent level of closeness I feel given how intertwined East Asian modernity is, but that doesn't lessen the antagonism all that much. Korchu harass him on twitter*, and totally justifiably as well LOL Japan is NOT owning up to anything and this is all the reparations they're going to get in the foreseeable future...

On Japan's part, I don't think he's particularly apologetic so much as irritated by them bringing old scars up because 'it was in the past, why are you lingering on old history instead of looking into the future' with maybe an added 'this is why you haven't developed properly like I have' towards China - although he probably can't do that anymore I guess! Sad! I also do think he lowkey looks down on them, and that he has some weird complexes about them as well but that's another conversation. Japan has some sort of 'closer to the west' sense of pride that gets in the way of relations with his neighbors as well, he's really annoying about that, and he has (more than) a bit of nostalgia towards eras Korchu are Not Happy About. He also has a bad tendency of blaming them for his domestic problems which they also aren't very happy about.

This is where I'm going to reveal my bias: I'm definitely less knowledgeable and therefore less confident on Korea-Japan compared to China-Japan, but to focus on China-Japan for a second: I think Japan's actually fairly irritated at China. Like, in general Korchu anger towards Japan far outweigh Japan anger towards Korchu for obvious reasons, but in this case Japan has a thought process like 'I helped you so much in the 80s and now you're stabbing me in the back!!', which China thinks is bullshit of course 👍

Also, lest I make it seem too much like Korchu vs Japan, I'd imagine Korpan complain about China together quite often as well and Nichu commit racism towards Korea separately but they catch each other's gaze across the internet and have a moment of understanding. Japan and Korea play nice when America's looking but fight a lot when America's not looking. They're caught up on each other's latest media and resent that fact. Easia's such a funny region 😨

*China has a twitter through a vpn like all those Chinese gov officials/international correspondents who spend their time dropping twitter roasts all day

Heyyyy everybody just wanted to let you know it is probably gonna be a while until the next update. I want to be able to give you guyz an update that is more than 2 pages but I am super busy with final essays and exams so it might be a month or so until an update.
