I'm not the only one who thinks we need a Star Wars What If Show, right? And specifically these What If..?
What If... Anakin Skywalker didn't fall to the Dark Side?
What If... Padme Amidala was force sensitive?
What If.... Obi-Wan Kenobi became a Sith after Qui-Gon's death?
What If... Darth Vader lived at the end of Return Of The Jedi?
What If... Darth Maul left the Dark Side after Palpatine's betrayal?
What If... Padme Amidala lived in Revenge Of The Sith and raised Luke and/or Leia?
What If... Sheev Palpatine wasn't Darth Sidious?
What If... Ahsoka Tano didn't leave the Jedi Order?
What If... the roles were reversed? (every bad character is good and viceversa)
What If... Luke Skywalker fell to the Dark Side?
What If... Darth Vader didn't fight Ahsoka in Twilight of the Apprentice?
What If... Ahsoka Tano and Darth Maul became allies in Clone Wars?
What If... Alexsandr Kallus redeemed sooner?
What If... Kanan Jarrus saved Grand Inquisitor in Fire Across the Galaxy and he reluctantly became part of the Ghost Crew -just to stay alive- until he truly became a rebel?
What If... Thrawn became a rebel instead of an imperial?
What If... the Empire fell, but Anakin Skywalker didn't, and he had to raise Luke?
What If... Thrawn and Ezra had to put their differences aside to survive after Family Reunion – and Farewell?
What If... Ezra Bridger became a Sith?
What If... the Order 66 didn't happen?
What If... the Empire and the Rebellion had to work together to stop a threat, far more dangerous than the Empire ever was?

Annnnnyways, no Empire AU where Agent Kallus is actually Padawan Kallus (he was found a bit late and Kenobi threatened to make him his new padawan if they didn’t let him in the creche so the council got flashbacks and allowed him in the creche and told Kenobi to go make Reva his Padawan instead cause they cannot handle another blonde child at Kenobi’s side rn) because he’s a fair bit force sensitive and Kenobi found him in a dumpster someone threw Kenobi into so now he’s 22 and has a nice Wookie master and on a trip to Lasan when Alexsandr meets the honor guard Captain Garazeb who compliments him on his nice mutton chops since it’s very hard for humans that young to grow hair on their faces that nice and Kallus blushes and mentions he might have some non-human ancestry in there while twirling his braid around his fingers and they talk and get to know each other and maybe exchange comm codes and talk daily and it’s not a crush master he’s just VERY NICE and pretty and sweet and beautiful and ITS NOT A CRUSH- it’s a crush. Anyways. Maybe he should become the Lasan ambassador between them and the Jedi, that sounds like a totally logical decision right there he thinks. He just likes the jungle they live in and the cubs that run about is all, he’s just being helpful-

What if the Imperials Were the Rebels?
So I was thinking about if Star Wars had a “What If?” series like Marvel does, and I starting thinking about how some characters part of the Empire would be the rebels in another universe. I found it pretty interesting (and Star Wars should really do a “What If?” series), so here are my own versions of what roles I think the Imperials would play if they were the ones fighting in the Rebellion (and Palpatine is still Palpatine). (I didn’t include Kallus because he did defect to be a rebel in canon, so in my AU he would possibly remain an Imperial, as this focuses more on people who never defected and stayed loyal in the canon universe.) I’ll discuss just a few characters below and my thoughts on them.
Feel free to let me know your own thoughts and ask about any Imperial characters I didn’t discuss! I'll write small fics for them one day!!
Darth Vader: He would remain Anakin Skywalker in my AU, helping to lead the rebellion. Also being one of the Jedi part of the Rebellion, he helps to fight against the Inquisitors and lead the Rebellion towards the right path. The Empire had taken his master, padawan, son, and daughter away from him years ago and had assassinated the love of his life; he would do anything to bring them down. Is also one of the strongest pilot fighters the rebellion has.
Wilhuff Tarkin: I imagined Tarkin as like an individual similar to Commander Sato from Rebels and General Dodonna from the original trilogy/Rebels. He leads one of the main rebellion fleets and is highly respected as a commander. Was offered a position in the Empire but had immediately refused in its early days, not wishing to serve under this new regime. Has led many of the rebel attacks against the Empire with many success rates.
Thrawn: As a general and a pilot fighter in the rebellion, Thrawn leads one of the powerful squadrons in the rebellion. Often comes up with many of the attack strategies when preparing for an ambush, and is ready to command and attack when the Empire gets a level up on them. Often feuds with Hera Syndulla, one of the most powerful admirals and TIE fighter pilot in the Empire.
Orson Krennic: An engineer and a rebel commander, Krennic has helped design many of the weapons and starfighters the rebellion uses against the Empire. Has led many rebel fleet attacks while stationed in the base, helping to direct the fleet to their target.
Inquisitors: I viewed them as the Jedi of the Rebellion, as characters like Ezra, Kanan, Cal, Ahsoka, Obi-Wan, and other Jedi alive during this time would be the Inquisitors. They would be spread around in the galaxy, continuing to help keep up the fight against the Empire and protect young Force-sensitives from the hands of the Inquisitors. Have all met Anakin Skywalker and would follow him into battle any day.
Morgan Elsbeth: I felt like thinking about her and how she would potentially fit into this AU, as she did basically design those TIE fighters that Thrawn adores so much while she worked inside the Empire, as seen in Tales of the Empire. Morgan would be an engineer like Krennic, focusing her designs primarily on the starfighters for the rebellion to help them succeed. Has worked with Thrawn and designed the fighters for his squadron, watching the fight from the ground. The Republic was responsible for the execution of her native people, and now that it had become the tyrannical Empire, her only wish was to destroy it.
Edmon Rampart: I based this off some of the theories I would read about Rampart potentially becoming like Kallus and turning around to become a rebel, but we saw where that went lol. I see Rampart as one of the rebels part of the Alliance who had escaped the Empire after being caught by Hera Syndulla, conveying a lot of important information to the rebellion while remaining in an Imperial position. He has helped lead many rebel attacks and add successful strategies in the fight.
Royce Hemlock: You may be thinking, how does someone like Hemlock become a rebel? When I was thinking about this AU based off his skills and use to the Empire, I thought of him as being a lead medical doctor in the rebellion and partly an engineer, using his skills for healing and designing useful assets and weapons for the rebellion to take advantage of. Had not gotten expelled from the Republic Science Corps in this AU, but was forcefully kept in a secret facility for Palpatine’s wants after the fall of the Republic, and managed to escape. Not much of a direct fighter but knows how to handle a blaster, would rather stick to the base instead of being up with the pilots, but would do anything to make sure the Empire meets its demise.
Eli Vanto: A commander of another rebel fleet, and Thrawn’s partner in many of the rebel attacks and strategy meetings, Eli is respected for being the one to find out many of the Empire’s secrets through his spies scattered around the galaxy and his own aspirations to perform deep research into the Empire’s hidden goals. Used to only be a minor commander in the rebellion until Thrawn took note of his skills and Tarkin found him worthy of promotion to do more for the rebellion’s military.
let me know your thoughts and hopefully you found this interesting!

here we've got Pre-Empire, lower levels hive-rat Sasha Kallus and Good boy Junior Guard Captain Garazeb Orrelios for the @bahrynfestival prompt 'In Another Life'. Zeb characterization and general Lasan HCs courtesy of @sidhebeingbrand
Now, I could be normal and say this is just a 'oh what if these two met before the Empire' thing but I'm far from normal and that's not JUST the story behind this pic. Yeah, they're meeting before the Empire, but there's also a bunch of other nonsense going on. Lemme explain;
Sasha Kallus hasn't felt like a person since inheriting his 'magic'. It's been a quirk of his family for generations, but lucky him, it seems he's been gifted a particularly 'bad' case. Instead of being able to influence the 'magic' in others, like his baba and older brother, Sasha is burdened with generating an overabundance of 'magic' in himself. It sizzles in his veins like a live wire, heightening everything, dialing up his senses, his reflexes, his strength, keeping his mind buzzing all the time, hyper-aware and overly sensitive. Without his brother Tuz there to bridle that magic, Sasha runs the risk of becoming something dangerous, of becoming so overwhelmed, he loses himself and lashes out in a way he can't take back.
And he hates it.
He knows he's scaring his family, that there's a 'good reason' Tuz keeps him on such a short 'leash', but Sasha resents it all the same. He wishes he could get rid of his stupid magic. He wishes he could run away and never look back.
The family trait he knows as 'magic' is unheard of on Coruscant, and it's not quite the same as channeling the Force. Its two distinct flavors, however, are common and even revered on the planet Lasan as a gift of the Ashla. On Lasan, there are Watchers, who see with the Ashla's light, and their Guards, who shield the Watchers and aid them in honing their gifts.
Junior Guard Captain Garazeb Orrelios is visiting Coruscant as part of his Queen's entourage. Personally, he finds the planet a disturbing, lightless place. Excluding the Jedi in their temple, it feels like no one here has been touched by the Ashla. He was told to expect as much, that there are no Watchers or Guards among humans, but still. It's freaky. It makes this durasteel hive of a planet feel all the more dead inside.
Perhaps it's because he's particularly freaked out that, when the faint spark of a Watcher's soul suddenly appears several levels below them, he's the first to notice. Perhaps it's his disposition–his talent for meshing so well with any unbonded Watcher that might be in need of his aid–that keeps his awareness locked on this stranger, this lost soul.
No, not lost, there is a Guard's presence keeping the Watcher stable, but. It's too fraught a union to be a healthy bond. The Watcher is in distress.
Garazeb's duty is to all Watchers, even alien ones hidden in the depths of off-putting city-planets. He asks permission to pursue this stranger, to ensure personally that all is well.
That's how Garazeb meets Sasha.
Now, there's one last thing. On Lasan, it's understood that the Ashla has made every Watcher a Guard to compliment and complete them, and every Guard a Watcher, in turn. Bit of a soulmate thing. It's not guaranteed one will find their match, but it's likely and extremely obvious when it happens. Even for a talented Guard like Garazeb who seems to naturally compliment every Watcher he meets, the work of shielding his intended would be frictionless.
Garazeb has been searching for his Watcher ever since he was small and learned one might be out there waiting on him. He had not expected to find a human, let alone one who considers his Ashla given Sight a curse, has no concept of a 'bonded pair', and has only known a Guard's influence as 'leash' to keep him to heel.
There's no denying it, though. They meet, and even his superiors can tell the bond is special. Garazeb never, ever expected to forsake his home for the hellscape that is Coruscant, but for his Watcher? He might. Assuming Sasha will let him.

Help me name this little peanut
Wonderful artwork made possible by @lasat-picrew!
This dear little one is one of my OCs and the biological child of Garazeb Orrelios and Alexsandr Kallus.
He can be sensitive and shy, but he's a hell-raiser once you get to know him. He thinks his cousin Jacen is just the coolest and loves to do all the crazy Jedi acrobatics even though he's not the least bit Force-sensitive. His older (adopted) sister Klavdia can be a little overprotective, which sometimes causes friction, but overall they are very close.
Current name ideas are Gavril, Timur, and Osvald. Last name Orrelios. Thoughts? They're all names from the same-ish geographic region as Alexsandr, but they seem to fit well enough with lasat pronunciation/spelling.
I'm estimating he was born somewhere between 10 and 13 ABY. Sometimes I want to make him a blond, sometimes not. (Can you tell I have problems deciding things about my OCs?)
A snippet of him as a newborn:
“He’s perfect,” Zeb breathed.
“He is,” Alexsandr agreed, perched on the side of the hospital bed with one arm wrapped around his husband’s shoulders and the other following the cradle of Zeb’s arms where their son lay.
Sleepy little eyes looked up at them, Lasat and sclera-less but honey-brown in color. The baby wrinkled his nose with just a little bit of extra cartilage at the end, making the constellation of tiny purple dots over his nose fur jump around. Zeb smoothed out the nose with one gentle finger.
“He’s got yer dots,” he said with a dopey grin.
“And your ears,” said Alexsandr as he felt them twitch against his hand.
“10 perfect fingers and 8 perfect toes,” said Zeb, stroking said fingers gently where they latched onto one of his.

Thinking of another Star War AU I Will Not Write. This time, it’s an Imperial Ghost Crew one:
Sabine Wren fails to escape the Imperial Academy, and is, for some reason, forced into a mentorship program with Hera Syndulla, an extremely competent and talented new ISB agent coming out of a decorated career in the Imperial Navy. Sabine hates her on sight. She attempts to run away at least five times a day (Hera always seems to know where she is), and makes no secret of how much she wants to join the rebel terrorists they are currently hunting. The only upside to the situation is Agent Syndulla's ancient, borderline illegal droid (he doesn't want to go through Imperial reprogramming, and Hera won't make him) who lives for chaos and is absolutely willing to hack into a Star Destroyer’s comm system to blast the Republic anthem and smuggle in smoke bombs.
Hera Syndulla was captured in an Imperial raid when she was a kid (11-12) and placed in an Imperial reeducation facility. She graduated top of her class at the Imperial Fighter Academy and served as one of the Empire's most talented TIE pilots until she was promoted to the ISB. And now she has to wrangle a teenage Mandalorian whose favorite hobbies are high treason and vandalism. Sabine's relentless rebellion starts to change her mind on the Rebellion, especially when Sabine tells her about the Duchess and what the Empire's done to Mandalore.
Chopper, of course, goes where Hera goes, even though the Empire is far too orderly for his tastes. He somehow found her after her capture and reeeducation, and covertly replaced her astromech at the Fighter Academy. He commands an army of Mouse Droids on the Star Destroyer, and takes great pleasure in using them to sneak bugs and smoke bombs into Officer's quarters. In his opinion, Sabine is the best thing that's ever happened to him--she's an excellent gunner, a fellow chaos lover, and she's gotten Hera to loosen up a bit, so it's easier than ever to sneak off with her codes to prank the Admiral.
Ezra was captured with his parents on Lothal and put into Project Harvester, where he was eventually transferred into the Inquisitorius as a Junior Inquisitor. As such, he is extremely repressed. Sabine takes one look at him and decides he's her new best friend, and by the Force she is going to radicalize him. They become fast friends, and are soon the bane of every Senior Officer's existence. But no one can track the mysterious disappearance of all of Admiral Konstantine's pants back to them, of course. They bond over shared Imperial Trauma and eventually decide that they need to get out of here as fast as fucking possible.
Kanan was captured after Order 66 and was tortured into the Inquisitorius, so he's even more emotionally constipated than Ezra. He is Struggling with attempting to parent a teenager because Vader and the Grand Inquisitor's solution to everything was torture, and for some strange reason, he doesn't want to do that with Ezra. Also, he's extremely confused whenever he looks at Hera because he gets Feelings other?? than unquenchable rage??? and he does not know how to process this At All. He ends up covering for Ezra and Sabine's shenanigans because they're just kids and he doesn't want to see them punished. So no, Admiral Konstantine, he has no idea how all the security tapes for your room on the night your pants were stolen disappeared, it's a complete mystery.
Zeb and Kallus are the leaders of the Rebel cell they're trying to capture, because there's absolutely no way Zeb would ever be Imperial. Kallus and Hera were friends back at the Imperial Academy so they've got that best friends to enemies dynamic, and Zeb and Kanan have a really old rivalry--Zeb has a habit of sneaking Force Sensitive kids out of the Empire's reach, and Kanan's been halfheartedly hunting him for years. They are absolutely kriffing, and keep asking Hera and Kanan when they're going to finally do it. Kanan is so embarrassed he can't speak, and Hera looks straight down for so long that the rebels make their getaway unchallenged.

Rebels rewatch liveblog: Season 1, episode 2: “Sparks of rebellion, part 2”
Hera *knowing* what Ezra is going to help Sabine, Kanan, and Zeb is very Jedi’s-wife of her
…
Zeb trying to justify an unwilling sacrifice is awful I can’t wait for Hera to yell at him
…
Ezra accidentally activating the Jedi holocron and then immediately tricking the guards into letting him escape by calling himself the Emperors nephew is peak force-sensitive gremlin child
…
Kallus actually listening to a “stormtrooper”‘s suggestion is a nice change of pace from the usual imperial antagonists
…
Zeb I think that there’s a significant difference between Ezra’s 5’3 self (idk) wearing just a helmet and the fully-grown fully-uniformed bucket heads
…
Something that I don’t like in this show is that they changed existing-characters facial shapes, like the Wookiees and Ahsoka in later seasons (and Darth Vader!)
…
That stormtrooper is fucking hilarious, too bad Kallus kicked him 🤭🤭
…
Young Obiwan is cute in this animation style, but again his face structure changed

Thank you for asking friends! 💛

Five things the Spectres found out about Kallus and one he told them himself is here ❤️
(There's a lot I have to say about OCD wip so I'm gonna post it in another post)
Alrighty, so Force Kallus is, like the title suggests, about Force-Sensitive Kallus
If someone is intrigued enough by that, here's the link to the first chapter I already published a while ago- if you don't want spoilers, I would advise not reading more of this post before you read the chapter 💛
a blind man needs no looking glass
Now back to the topic
The first few chapters are (or will be) dedicated mainly to Kallus' backstory- the first one already touches on his childhood and what part the Force played in it.
As a sewer rat/street kid in the lower levels of Coruscant, Alexsandr learned to be sneaky and quick in order to survive on his own- he knows how to steal, shoplift, pick pockets or even straight up convince someone to help him out with a credit of two. The last one especially requiers an ability he mastered as a kid- he looks the person straight in the eyes and concentrates fully on the tjings he's about to say, believes it fully as he says: "give me a credit" or "it wasn't me" when someone catches him shiplifting or emptying their pockets. They let him go, do nithing as he runs away with his prize. It helps him survive.
In the 1st chapter, he runs away from a shop he just stole a pack of ration bars from. He didn't have enough focus to make his trick work so now what's left for him to do it outrun the shopowner and he almost managed to do that- before he runs into some kid and spills the bars. And Alexsandr feels something strange in the air as he looks at the kid- and soon he feels it even stronger when some woman shows up and asks what happened, but before they can fully explain, the shop owner catches up. To help him out, the strange woman mives her hand in front of the man's eyes and convinces him to return to his work as if nothing happened- Alexsandr recognizes immediately that she's performing his trick. He connects the dots and realises that- no. Nope. Not yet. He's in denial.
After that, he swears off of using it ever again. He somehow survives a year or two without it.
Then one day something very painful explodes in the air, causing him to scream as his entire body twists in some strange pain- as if he was hearing thousands of people screaming all at once, he's so cold he feels like he's freezing, he can almost feel the physical pain the owners of the unbearable voices must be feeling to scream like that-
And then there's just... silence. Awful, deep silence, it's all so quiet he barely even hears his own thoughts. He stills and can barely hear his own heart that was beating so loudly a moment ago. He stays like that, laying on the floor, with tears on his face and the memory of pain fresh in his mind, for hours. But he feels nothing. Except that horrible coldness that never leaves.
He tries to forget that moment. In the Academy, in the Empire after that, he pushes it away and away but it never leaves him.
As he works for the Empire, he masks his Force-sensitivity well wenough to fool the Inquisitor, but it takes a huge toll on him. Even more so when he has to fool Vader. But he manages, he does it well and it's working, because well, he's still alive, isn't he?
He knows that the Force could help him catch the Rebels, he knows it will make him an even more valuable tool for the Empire, but he never let's anyone know about it.
Officially? Because he swore off using it a long time ago, he doesn't want to use it ever again after it caused him that awful feeling back when he was a child, when everything in the Galaxy went cold and quiet and still.
Unofficially? He's scared of what the Empire might do once they realise they have a Force-sensitive within their reach. But he doesn't admit it, even to himself.
When he meets Ezra, he dismisses the weird feeling, focusing on his work instead. When he meets Kanan, he feels that pull in the air again and he knows that Kanan is a Jedi a moment before he draws his lightsaber. To him, it just means that there are two more people he absolutely needs to catch (and two more people who he needs to mask in front of- if he can't have the Empire knowing he's Force-sensitive, he surely can't let the enemy know)
For now that's all I'll be giving you, I have some very brief ideas about what happend post-Atollon tho, so I might work on it and maybe post a new chapter after my exams are finished

Funny thought
Kallus, trained in ballet in the lower levels for extra cash, also discovering he's force sensitive.
In the middle of a battle, a Saber is thrown his way and he doesn't know what he's fucking doing with it.
Him founding catches Kanan’s attention, who had started teaching him the beginning of the positions. So he yells out "second" and Kallus instinctively retreats to a ballet position, deflecting a shot.
Kanan: Not what I meant, but I guess it worked-

Rules: In a new post, post the names of all the files in your WIP folder regardless of how non descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet or tell us about it. Then tag as many people as you have WIPs. If you don't write, list your art WIPs! Overlord!Huskerdust au - Val loses Angel's soul in a bet to Husk, Husk & Angel slowly fall in love, Husk's casino stops making a profit & Husk loses his soul to Alastor. Stick it Val - Basically an Angel x Vox au where they start hooking up behind Valentino's back as a mental "go fuck yourself, I can do what I want" Overlord!Angel Dust - Basically a role reversal of Hazbin Hotel, I have only written a bit for Charlie, Angel & Vaggie tho.
I can see through you - Kallus is barerly force sensitive but with the small amount of force sensitivity that he has, he can tell when a person is lying. That's not a problem in his work, but it is when he starts befriending Zeb.

Rebels Rewatch: "The Antilles Extraction"
WEDGE WEDGE WEDGE WEDGE!
Hey, they had the budget to give at least one of these Rebel commanders a face!
This opening scene with the unfortunate redshirts serves two major purposes:
Establishes that the Rebellion needs pilots, and not just pilots but good pilots. (Recall the hilarity that in Legends canon they tested Wedge repeatedly for Force Sensitivity because they refused to believe he was just that good, lol.)
And it sets a baseline of the cruelty we can expect from the Empire. They wipe out this whole flotilla, even though the transport surrendered and is unarmed. Call Forward to Saw's Modus Operandi perhaps? At the very least hinting at the kind of blind dogmatic fanaticism the Empire encourages in its ranks.
Important to note: When the tips of a TIE are painted like that... that's an ace. That is someone you do not want to mess with in aerial combat.
Once again, the A-wings get a really raw deal in this show.
Hngh, Ezra's hopeful expression when Sato mentions "Fulcrum", he was so ready to believe that Ahsoka had somehow survived. *cries*
I think everyone in fandom and their dog guessed that the new Fulcrum was Kallus, lol. Once again, really should have gotten to see some of that arc onscreen. Didn't have to be much, just a scene or two here and there showing him researching into the Geonosian massacre or something and then attempting to get in touch with the Rebellion.
Ezra's objections to Sabine going in undercover play a little bit back into his overactive Hero Complex, that the holocron took advantage of to tempt him. Even though he's sworn off the Dark Side at this point, the underlying causes for why he was flirting with it in the first place--to prevent anything else bad from happening to the people he cares about--are still in effect. So having to wait in the wings and surrender control of an uncertain situation that could prove dangerous to his family is still going to be a source of distress for him.
Unfortunately, as Hera points out, Ezra's face has acquired lots more notoriety (at least in Imperial school circles), so Sabine's the one who's gotta do it this time. And she does not sound too eager about it lol.
This show is so good at lovely environments.
Sabine is the tiniest one there lol.
Kanan putting a supportive hand on Ezra's shoulder 'cause he knows Ezra's worrying. <333
"I'm just not a fan of these solo missions." "Unless it's you." That is kind of how his Hero Complex works, he doesn't want anyone else putting themselves in harm's way, would rather take on the dangers himself so that nothing bad happens to anyone else.
("Tari did the fandom have uncharitable interpretations of this moment too?" Ohhhhh yes you betcha. Fandom, please let the boys care about and worry for their women without turning it into some kind of chauvinism PLEASE.)
Oh wow, that was a snippet of Luke's theme transposed to minor key, that was a brilliant musical move.
HI WEDGE!
Officer Prissypants immediately shutting down any attempt for the cadets to maintain their individual personhood, insisting on callsigns only. See fandom, this what actual cult-like indoctrination looks like.
(Probably one of the reasons Wedge was bristling under their control, he's got too big a force of personality to keep under wraps.)
So another reason why I think the hints of Force Sensitive!Sabine in the Ahsoka trailers have to be a big red herring or else a giant-ass dumb retcon? Recall if you will the Empire has methods of testing for Force Sensitivity, if anything about Sabine's skills as a pilot here had pinged them as a little too good they would have flagged her and called for an Inquisitor to come investigate. (Even given that we lost three at Malachor.)
Or you know... just shot her.
Oh look, basically the same in-field situation they just showed us in the opening! Designed as a test of pilot loyalty: Unquestioningly follow these orders to blow up this ship or you're a filthy traitor to the Emperor.
We can see now a glimpse of how the Empire suppresses all individual thinking, personality, creativity, and humanity in its members, turns them into mindless drones to be pointed as weapons towards the Empire's enemy. Also that the Empire nominally has standards that purport to offer a sense of fair play and moral rule, but that it will immediately ignore its own rules when it suits them, again, in order to go after and obliterate its enemies.
Rebels said watch out for anyone who tells you not to ask questions or express doubts or concerns and who operates on Rules For Thee.
Love that they put the Ghost in the simulation lol.
You gotta know Sabine is chafing under this reprimand from Vult Skerris (the ace in our opener), this is her cadet days all over again, being told to sit down and shut up like a good girl and not worry her pretty little head off.
Wedge already admiring Sabine for her guts and dropping narrative hints that he's one of the defectors. We knew this already, of course, because it's Wedge, but still.
HI HI PRYCE! HI KALLUS. :D
Kallus must be so frustrated that ISB sent him personally to root out the sympathizers they learned about lol.
(Unless he volunteered for it himself, to try and cover their escape and help them if he could?)
Lol the stink eye he gives Pryce.
Sabine lucks out and stumbles across the very self-same sympathizers conversing in the hallway and of course no one is surprised to see Wedge.
Really can't praise the environment and lighting work on this show enough.
Sabine carefully feels Wedge out and confirms he's a defector and reveals herself.
Welcome to the Rebellion, hope you're good at Indy Ploys lolol.
Ezra's agitated pacing as he worries about Sabine. <3
And Kanan speaking directly to the insecurities and anxieties and fears that drove Ezra to consult the Sith holocron.
(Once again the parallels to Anakin "I need to be powerful enough to stop people from dying" Skywalker are great. The heart of Jedi philosophy is realizing you are not in control, and letting go of your fear of loss. Per Lucas, it doesn't mean you don't fight to preserve life if you can, but that if it is their time, you accept it. You don't go down into Hades to get them back, you don't break the laws of the universe to spare yourself that pain. You love them, and let them pass away. You let go.)
Ezra's immediate, "Of course I trust her." awwwwww.
Ahhh Kallus went along to be all, "We have investigated ourselves thoroughly and have found we have done nothing wrong." re. the defectors.
Hi Hobbie! Hi redshirt that absolutely bites it because we don't know him from the OT!
Still loving how Sabine is tinier than everyone there.
"These Rebels you say are waiting for us, do you trust them?" "With my life." UNQUESTIONING FAITH IN EZRA TO SWOOP IN AND SAVE HER AWWWW.
Yeah yeah Kanan is there too but Ezra's the one in the command seat LET ME HAVE THIS IT'S CUTE.
"Come on Ezra... where are you?" See, Sabine specifies him too.
The Rebel Alliance fanfare as the CR90 jumps in, yay!
"Sabine? Hope we're not too late." "Right on time." Sue me, I love cute banter.
And I hear the "Shenanigans" cue in heroic horns there.
Pryce reveals herself to be Actually Pretty Clever, having rigged the TIEs with kill switches beforehand.
HA HA HA HA NOT THE LAST TIME SABINE WOULD PLEAD WITH EZRA TO ESCAPE A PERILOUS SITUATION. *weeps in finale feelings*
And he still hates leaving people behind. But Kanan's right, they have to apply some Jedi non-attachment in this case or risk being unable to help her later. On account of, you know, being dead themselves.
:(
Pryce waltzes in being fabulously nasty and effortlessly reveals Sabine. Kinda wonder if the Imps just had this interrogation table on hand or if Pryce brought it with her.
Ooof Sabine's comment to Kallus here about "they found someone to do your job" had to hurt.
Have I mentioned I love Pryce yet? I love her, she's so casually patronizing and cruel and I adore that she's also a pretty effective brawler.
Love this little fight, it's not pretty or civilized at all, all grappling and dirty tricks.
Wedge is not quite skilled enough in the Indy Plot to pull off escapes like Ezra and Sabine yet lololol.
"Tell Garazeb Orrelios we're even." <333333 I love him.
Shades of Poe Dameron in Wedge's "I can fly anything." boast.
We sacrificed speed for durability, a smart decision when up against an ace like Skerris, actually. The bomber takes three direct hits without shattering like a normal TIE would. And Wedge handles it with much more maneuverability that it'd normally be flown.
Ho ho man this hero shot of the CR90 emerging from the clouds. :)
More adorable Sabezra banter. <333
Lol Hobbie not giving Sabine his real name (Derek Klivian btw) so she has to awkwardly give his nickname to Sato.
And congrats, we have successfully completed another Friendship Fetch Quest!
I remember being kind of bored with this episode the first time around (Sabine was kind of the least interesting member of the main cast for me, up until Season Three) but I think I appreciate it a lot more now. The look into the workings of the Imperial propaganda and indoctrination machine is illuminating, Wedge is pretty cute and it's nice to see him before he was a noted Rebel hero, and Ezra's concern over Sabine makes my shipper heart warm.
Amazingly, however, we managed to completely avoid getting any kind of backstory for Sabine out of an episode where she literally goes back to an Imperial Academy. So I guess if I had to nitpick this episode it might have been kind of nice to see her have to struggle a little bit more with being there, besides the one regretful look in the beginning and the bristling at her reprimand in the middle.
But aside from that, this episode was actually a pretty nice one.

Would anyone be interested in an AU where the meteorite Zeb found Kallus to keep him warm was force sensitive (doesn’t not have to be kyber, in fact it’s way better if it isn’t because kyber is NOT the only force sensitive stone type in SW) and bonds with Kallus before promptly deaging him slowly over the course of the day they’re on the ice moon till Zeb is sorta forced to take Kallus with him cause the empire would never stand for force bullshit happening to Kallus and they’d immediately hand him to the inquisitors and Kallus would suffer and now Kallus is clingy and has the weird force ability to grow tiny when he needs loves and always goes running off to Zeb when he’s smol???? Yeah cause I’m writing it and y’all just have to deal with that.
#star wars#star wars rebels#alexsandr kallus#garazeb orrelios#deaging#kallus still has ALL his memories he’s just a little boy about it#only about two at most#very little many antics!!!#it’s like kalluzeb but mostly in spirit and platonic life partners way#I say mostly they have their moments
