The Destiel Folder: Season 10

[Season 4; Season 5; Season 6; Season 7; Season 8; Season 9]

Episode 1:

Cas is slowly dying, practically naked, in a bed, and the first thing he says when talking about Dean is "I miss him" (6:35), with a soft smile. "Why would he just disappear?"

... I'm sorry but If Cas Were A Woman, this would look like a scene from a movie or something, where the wife talks to a friend over the phone about her missing husband. JUST SAYING

Crowley: "The girl seemed nice. Slightly damaged. I could see the old you falling for that." (9:29) uhm... who else is "nice and slightly" damaged? I don't know... CASTIEL??!!!

So... these two men (actors Todd Mann and Brad Mann) we see with the DemonGang, are real life twins (9:14).

At (27:18), Crowley states him and Dean did "extroardinary things to triplets" ... and, well, the only twins with a possible other sibling we see are... them

And this is not the first time we hear about Dean doing "things to triplets" with a buddy of his (15x07)... and the first time he was NOT a demon... so, there's that. And triplets don't necessarily mean "all females"

Cas, while talking about the good things that come with choices, mentions "hope, love, dreams" (39:06), and Hannah points out that "those are human things". Human things...

Cas is talking about his own personal experiences with creating chaos, so those are the things he felt after rebelling for... Dean... WOW. ICWAW, it would totally be read it as a reference to Dean. A romantic one. Fight me

Episode 2:

Cas is dying, just got back from a fight that left him wounded, doesn't have enough power to heal himself, is on a mission to restore Heaven, and once again he chooses to go save Dean (9:35), and the way rage builds in his eyes when learning Dean has become a demon. Look at this shit

I might be crazy, but this feels like a touching metaphor to me:

"I think you don't know what you want. Tell me, Dean. What are you? A demon? [...] Maybe you're human. [...] Why don't you do us all a great, big favor... and pick a bloody side!" (22:22)

Episode 3:

We are reminded that, even tho in terrible conditions, on the verge of death, Cas is willing to risk it all to save Dean, and is devastated by the thought of Dean not making it (4:47 - 5:17)

This is so funny to me, I'm sorry, but Cas is so visibly uncomfortable with Hannah touching him, it's hilarious (15:58)

"I've been around humans for long enough to see how easily distractions occur. Emotions, feelings... They're dangerous temptations." (22:32) like rebelling against your own kind, destroying your home, falling... all for a human?

"I'm trying to keep our priorities clear." Moments earlier, Cas listed "Getting to Dean" (22:17) before anything else. In fact, Hannah says "I am very clear of my priorities... and yours." = Dean (23:00)

Cas is not sure whether the cure will kill Dean or not, and in any case, he wraps his arms around him, and softly says "It's over... Dean it's over." (35:40) as if hushing him to sleep, in what could have been their last moments together... wow. Think about this ICWAW

"Well, I can see his point. Only humans can feel real joy, but... also such profound pain. This is easier." (36:17) Look at the way Sam is looking at Cas looking at Dean

Cas already stated he misses being human, but knows how fragile they are in both body and spirit:

Castiel really wants to be with Dean. For real. But maybe he thinks (see season 9) him being an angel is an obstacle to their feelings.

Only by being human he can truly be happy (MMMMMMHH SEASON 15), but isn't sure he could handle the pain that comes with it. A possible rejection, the thought of Dean dying, him leaving Dean... MMMMHHHHH

"You look terrible." [...] "Well, you, on the other hand, you... *checks out Cas* Looking good." (39:09) full homo right there. Also parallel with Ketch in 13x18 ("You don't look good." "Yeah, well, you're not my type, either.")

The way they are looking at each other here... man.

Cas is so happy to have Dean back, and Dean looks hurt about Cas leaving so soon.

"So... so, you're back?" "At least temporarily." (39:27) bitch, you know that's not what he ment.

In all of this, Cas is trying to make Dean feel better about the whole situation (DAT SMILE 40:18), and Dean replies with "I'm glad you're back, man.", basically no-homoing himself...

Cas starts walking out of the room, but stops and turns back [insert concerned husband here] (40:27), and Dean has that hopeful look in his eyes, like Cas is going to stay, and the hurtful look comes back as soon as Cas is gone

Episode 4:

"On your knees!" "Wow, I'm awfully flattered-" (34:33) SASSY BI DEAN IS THE DEAN WE DESERVE

Episode 5:

Fucking kill me NOW!!! Dean's reaction to Destiel is PRICELESS!! And even before he learns what that is, he just looks at the girls playing him and Cas and... freezes for a moment (13:18) And the eyebrow raise thingy at (13:34)... what's going on in your brain, Dean?

I'd like to point out that the Italian translation for "You can't spell 'subtext' without S-E-X" is, for once, AMAZING:

"It's just that... their bond is so strong it has subtext of a... sexual nature."

THANK YOU ITALIAN DUB! JUST THIS ONCE, THANK YOU! (13:43)

Also at (9:44) Dean immediately reacts to the implication of Wincest subtext, shutting it down and telling the girls to take a step back, but with Destiel he is like... alright

... this is so fucking cute, (25:54) Dean adjusts the girl playing Cas' tie so that it's messed up like the real Cas'. ADORABLE

SAM SHIPS IT (13:57) and is teasing the SHIT out of Dean, who reacts like someone being teased about their crush. Just saying (14:08 - 14:52) [AND THIS HAPPENS IN FRONT OF A PINK-BLUE WALL]

"I know I have expressed some differences of opinion regarding this version of Supernatural." (26:44) ... oookay meta? *turns to "Cas"* "And I want you to put as much sub into that text as you possibly can." ... oKAY?!

Episode 7:

Cas being extremely uncomfortable with women is too fucking funny to me (5:03 - 12:51)

Episode 9:

(15:13) Alright, so, this is a date... what now? Anyway, nice bi flannel, Dean. And the little sweet smiles you two are giving each other? So fucking precious (16:01)

"I ain't exactly a role model." "That's not true." (16:07) how Dean looks at Cas right after that? BABIES!

"How are you, Dean?" "Fine." "*I-call-bullshit look*" "I'm great!" "No, you're not." (16:18) #MARRIED

As Cas is choke-holding a guy, Dean, clearly amused (almost proudly), says "I'd do what he says." (22:17) Like that time with Raphael in 5x03, Dean likes it when Cas gets rough

Episode 10:

Shut the fuck up and marry each other already so you can finally actually BE the old married couple™️ you ALREADY ARE (22:17)

This is the "My husband is so FUCKING STUPID" look (22:30)

"I was hoping you might reach out to her." "... Me? I'm probably the last person she'd want to hear from." [...] "All I know... is she won't talk to me." (23:03) #MARRIED, PARENTS, PERIODT

Shut the fuck up. Cas is the dad trying to figure out technology (23:36) "I'll text you her number. I like texting. Emotions!" DAD

Cas worries about Dean like a wife would with an alcoholic husband

Of all the things Dean could be MAD about at Metateon... the first thing he can think of is him stealing Cas' grace (31:33) (okay, maybe he is going in chronological order but STILL)

Episode 11:

[I AM SO SO SO SORRY BUT DEAN USED THE ALIAS "PRESLEY" (18:55) I AM NOT OKAY]

Episode 14:

Have this deleted scene: Castiel and Crowley bitching over Dean, and Crowley calling Dean Cas' boyfriend

This is some hell of a goodbye-eye-love-making scene (26:57)

Cain compares himself to Dean... and CAS TO HIS WIFE COLLETTE [PARALLELS]

"You're living my life in reverse [...]

First you'd kill Crowley. You'd get it done, no remorse. (Cain had been killing his descendants, for whom he didn't care much)

And then you'd kill the angel, Castiel. Now, that one... that, I suspect, would hurt something awful. [And than Sam is Able, bla bla...]"

Episode 16:

This is such a good source of hidden meanings scene! Dean starts his "confession" as a scam. Everything he says at first is to attract the spirit.

He starts talking about seeing lots of women, not being able to control himself, and being sick of it. Then the real confession begins...

Dean feels he's going to die soon, and fears not death itself, but what he would be missing from his life.

"There's things... people, feelings that I... I would experience differently than I had before. Or even for the first time." (25:28) and the priest believes Dean is talking about love.

Well... "people, feelings"... who could he be referring to? Does Dean want love all of a sudden? People he wants to experience for the first time... uhmmmm... Is Dean opening up to his attraction to MEN??!! Or one angel in particular?

ICWAW we would guess Dean was talking about Cas

"Who mixes their blood and bones into paint? No woman has ever done that for me." (39:19) UHM- Dean, what about

6x20 "He has bled, died bla bla bla for us",

7x21 "I'm always happy to bleed for the Winchesters" or

9x22 "You just gave up an entire army for one guy"

ICWAW we would ALL roll our eyes at this statement and scream CAS

Episode 17:

About saving Dean from the Mark: "We won't- (free Metatron)" "Yes, you will... because you're desperate." (9:44) Hannah knows. Let's remark that

Notice how, when we get a Sam-Cas centred episode, we don't get the same interactions with Dean-Cas? Why this?

Dean is always ready to call Cas a "brother", but the only one true bromance here is Sam and Cas'. There are no longing stares, no weird sexual filled dialogue nor tension, NO LONGING STARES

Episode 18:

"You killed my friend." "Oh, pff, Dean is fine, mostly. Can't you get past that?" "Never." (12:39)

Charlie being excited about meeting Dean's famous boyfriend is WHOLESOME (37:34)

To have Cas back, 100%, safe and sound, is a win for Dean (38:58) and the face Cas makes after Dean hits him with another no-homo "It's good to have you back, pal." is "UHH not this again". Charlie already ships it

Episode 20:

A #MARRIED couple and their daughter. NO ARGUMENTS VALID (7:06)

Look at how they enter the motel (16:22)

OH MY GOOOOOD!!! #PARENTS coming back home from shopping!! THE HAND ON THE SHOULDER!!! Also

"Happy birthday. I got it at the Hot Topical" DAD

Dean: "Imma head back over there." Cas: "I'm coming with you." Claire: "I'm coming with you too." (17:24) #FAMILY

A fucking family comedy about a dad confronting the daughter's boyfriend and the other dad scolding him:

"What did you do to him?" "I didn't lay a hand on him!" "Dean, that isn't exactly true." "... Well, I didn't kill the guy." (17:14)

Surprisingly enough, this is not the first nor last time Dean acts like a dad to a lost child (AND TWO OF THESE TIMES THE KID IS SOMEHOW RELATED TO CAS) (21:54)

Episode 22:

C: "Claire, you are not going out there. [...] It's too dangerous. I can't let anything happen to you." D: "Claire, you're not going." C: "You're not either, Dean." D: "What?" (19:29)

#FAMILY DON'T TALK TO ME!

"No fighting. [...] Both of you." AAAAAA

This doesn't fucking matter, but Dean just said "... for the ladies. Or the fellas. I don't judge." (36:23)

Cas' speech to Dean... wow. "So if there's even a small chance that we can save you... I won't let you walk out of this room." (39:20)

I hate this scene. (40:11)

Dean is overwhelmed by Charlie's death, Sam and Cas' betrayal, the Mark changing him and all the other shit.

The Mark is taking over, and Dean can't (and won't) help it. Cas knows it. He doesn't want to hurt Dean. He is not even resisting. Doesn't put up a fight.

And just like Colette with Cain, Castiel only asks Dean one thing: "Stop." (40:38) [9x11]

Parallel to 8x07:

The only thing that stops Cas from killing Dean, is him begging, clutching onto his sleeve.

"Dean... please..." (41:08) Cas pleading Dean, clutching to his arm, makes him resist the urge to kill him.

cries think I made my ask too long so like half of it got deleted bc I typed it right into the askbox. anyways. I come bearing a3 thoughts! at first i was gonna watch the spring/summer and autumn/winter ones and then give my thoughts on both but. turns out i had too many thoughts lol? which i shouldve expected but i actually kind of... got bored by the first two chapters of this event! so i skipped and went to the stranger. and then went back. (1/?)

and then i got to like "tsuzuru and kazunari are having a fight?" and jumped on that like a starving wolf bc helllll yeah! i rly adored kazunari in sardine search, i think he was great! hes just so nice and has good vibes. he and taichi are kind of similar i feel? but i think their respective ages contribute to a lot of difference in their characters. why does it feel like this askbox limit personally wants me dead. (2/?)

anyways! i rly enjoyed the improv scene devolving to a real fight. admittedly i was kinda surprised that the content of that improv wasnt rly too similar to their actual fight? like normally a3 has the story of the play run parallel to like the actual real character drama so i thought the improv might function as the play in this event... it was still good tho. the scene i mean. (3/?)

also i rly liked tenma ragging on them afterwards. like he was mean but. first i adore tenma. second he just felt like. a different meddling type to muku lol? like the vibes he gave me were always like... im going to be a considerate leader and watch out for the ppl under me! therefore im gonna make sure theyre doing fine! aggressively. i think tenmas also just like a friendly person who likes to take care of others in general? like im not saying hes omi or anything but just like. (4/?)

that time he offers his car ride to juza so they can go to school together like hes surprisingly open compared to his initial prickliness. also ive got thoughts abt the tenma juza SSR conversation thing i read. one day ill make a tenma and juza fic and complete a trifecta haha... but thats something for another day! back to the actual story. the way tsuzuru dives right in after kazunari! that was so nice. like its easy to see how much they care abt each other. (5/?)

to the point where like even while theyre fighting theyre like angry but still like fairly quiet bc i think theyre both at least trying to be considerate of each other. ah the moment kazunari didnt respond to tsuzuru trying to talk to him i KNEW he was sick tho. felt proud of myself for calling that one but also the reason i knew is bc i have used the "character being sick during an argument causing them both to make up with each other" trope myself before so uh. like recognizes like haha. (6/?)

anyways the cg there was fuckin beautiful like kazunari looks so sad in the middle bit but then u see his shy smile? like hes sick but hes also like. happy to be there. idk. lovely. i adore kazu i think hes just deeply sweet to other people. tsuzuru telling him "you make everyone around you feel as bright and cheery as the things you design” is so wonderful too (7/?)

now im thinking. ah tsuzuru probably feels quite drained after a script and such (i know i am when i finish any piece--its like the emotions just rush out of me) so i like to think that like yknow. kazunari dropping by his room or whatever helps him set himself back to normal! but also when tsuzurus like oh u left ur magazines here! i suddenly remembered. wait shit kazunari and tsuzuru arent even roommates. wonder how much they bother masumi lmaooo. anyways overall very good story! (8/?)

some more thoughts: itaru and citron were so cute in this event! just like. citron saying itaru winking makes his heart skip a beat and itaru quoting citrons wrong sayings (which. i am also guilty of today i told my brother "we'll jump that bridge when we cross it" so) also i love how yuki is like "thank god i wasnt partnered with that hack" but like. yuki. u could literally just not talk about him. like its so funny to me yuki is like wow i hate tenma but he wont shut up abt him haha (9/?)

i also was a lil taken aback at hearing itaru go "for the lulz" tbh... like it fits him. but im mad it fits him? anywaysss thats all i had for this one! im gonna watch autumn/winter and go say my thoughts on that soon. sorry the ask was so broken up, idk what happened!

I'm putting my answer under a read more because. Well. *waves hand* it got long.

The non-play events can be perhaps a little harder to get into because unlike the plays events that you start with a clear idea of at least the main plot (re: "they are preparing a play, i know the leads so i know who it will focus on"), non-plays events take a little longer to first set up what event they're participating in, how to prepare for it, and then bring up the conflict and which characters are going to have something to do with said conflict. So i can understand that they're a little harder to get into when we know the plays awaits.

On top of that, the first few events still were a bit tame because since it was early when the app released, i think they didn't go too heavy at once in case some people were still stuck on earlier chapters (esp since especially Winter is hard to unlock)

ANYWAY glad that it sucked you in on the second read :3c

Totally agreeing with you about Kazunari, and very good point about Taichi as well! they aren't the Puppy Pair for nothing :'D (Yuki took one look at both of them together and just Knew. His suffering knows no end (lovingly)). But yeah i think they have a lot in common, they both are the really bright and friendly figure, both also started in overcompensating a bit because both wanted to be popular in some ways.

But we do have, on one hand, Kazunari who wanted that rather late in his life while Taichi always thrived for that, the fact Kazunari made friends easily and it's just that he was scared of getting to the next level, while Taichi always struggled with this quest for popularity. In a way too both of them were at least scared to share a part of them, Kazunari worrying to show his thoughts, and Taichi being a spy and all of that... which impacts them really differently considering the guilt it puts on Taichi. And then you add their age into the mix, especially the fact Kazu is the oldest of his troupe and Taichi the youngest of his, it makes them fairly similar all while being fairly different.

both are so interesting to me and i love them bothhh, so it's always nice to see them have focus.

i love how you are seeing the patterns a3 tends to do it's so neat!

It's true the fight isn't really similar to their actual fight, though i do love that they had "swapped" their personality for the act and ended up insulting each other for theirr swapped personality. Like, Kazunari insulted part of himself in Tsuzuru's character and Tsuzuru did the same?? and then the fight escalated and the way Kazunari broke character hurts bc it's really that Tsuzuru hit where it hurts. But yeah it still wasn't too relevent to their actual fight, though i think the thing is that their fight was as such mostly because they tend to clash often due to their personalities rather than just this singular reason why, so to have the play go more "it's their personalities the problem" kinda hurt lol. But yeah still agreed that it didn't reflect much on the plot itself

I was rereading the improv bit to answer correctly and man since we're going to talk about Tenma next, i just. Love that when Kazunari, breaking character, his eyes sad, tells Tsuzuru "you have no rights talking to me like that..." it then cuts on Tenma being upset. Bc like. Exactly like you say, he wants to look out for the people under him. and like. Kazunari is his friend. A friend he also snapped at once and insulted for being who he was, so he probably could have relived a bit of his fight with Kazunari seeing those two fights; Except that now Kazunari is one of his closest friend and he doesn't like that.

Also like. It was also because he could still hide under the plot of the improv but it's so rare, and it never happened before that point, that Kazunari stands for himself in a "the way you treat me is unfair"? Like again re: his fight with Tenma, when Tenma snapped at him, while Tenma was unfair with him, Kazunari took the blame, called himself annoying and all yaknow?

The fact Kazunari is starting to accept that he can take more place for himself is something the whole Summer Troupe have been trying to help him work on, but especially Tenma. Tenma is always there trying to push Kazunari to say what he means, to express his feelings, to stop hiding.

And for once, Kazunari does that in front of everyone... and it's because he's breaking because of his fight with Tsuzuru.

I think Tenma probably felt it was even more of a reason to get involved like, this is the thing he's been working on with Kazunari about, and now he's being all hurt about it, not on Tenma's watch!

And i totally agree with your take on Tenma! (and would LOVE to read the Tenma and Juza fic once you get to it :3c). I think, Tenma is really caring and is trying to take a place as a caretaker and all, but unlike Omi, he has absolutely no reference for it.

Omi is the eldest of multiple brothers and everything indicates his parents have always been lovely to him. Add to it how he ended up leader of a delinquent crew he was clearly looking after, Omi has a history of taking care of people, of nurturing them, and he knows what he's doing. Meanwhile Tenma grew up on TV sets, mostly surrounded by adults and not by people his age, mostly getting advice from being ordered around by directors i think. And his parents are distant, hyperfocused on their job, not really nursing with him. So Tenma meanwhile really didn't have a family emotional support and was in situation where he couldn't befriend other kids his age. His only reference was probably Igawa (his agent) and i think for a long time he didn't exactly see it, and Igawa remained mostly professional so there was probably the idea of it not being sincere? That Tenma had to grow out of.

So like, they're both extremely nurturing and caring, but my point is that Omi has experiences in it and is at ease with it, while Tenma has been so alone and in places were he had no support system that even if he wants to support others, he still struggles with how to do it because he has no set exemple. And that's his development in the main story arc, to learn from how Izumi shows she cares in order to care back at them all.

Like i mean the way Tenma yelled at them about their mistakes at first feel like he would have picked it up from some directors on TV set yaknow? Probably hearing them say that with no consequences on others actors, seeing it worked, didn't think "that's an abuse of power and the actors probably all think badly of their director for that" but "wow that works", tried it on his troupesmates and realized this is... not how that works. And it's spending time watching how Izumi encourages them that have him fix his way to approach it.

So yeah i got lost too into it but like. I feel you on Tenma i love him so much and i love his development so to see him get pissed and involved there? was really nice. even if he was aggressive about it. He's still learning.

ANYWAY back to Tsuzuru and Kazunari, totally agree with what you say next. They still care a lot about each other and yeah they're at a point where this consideration they have for each other make their anger more quiet than trying to attack one another (Banri could NEVER-). so yeah totally agree with you!

DLKFJDLKF i LOVE the reasoning on "recognizing that Kazunari was sick". Your writer's powers making you see through... *coughs* unlike Tsuzuru....

AND YEAH ALL YOU SAY ABOUT THE CG.. YEAH. Kinda crying thinking about it again now LDKJFLKDJF It's just. Everything about it is so soft and tender. The things Tsuzuru tells Kazunari are soo so sweet sobs. They're just adorable i love those kids. and also i feel you for Kazu he's just that great huh?

The whole set up about Kazu dropping by his room is so so cute! I love it! Like probably the very first time Tsuzuru braces himself because "oh no i'm not in the mood to stand mister hyperenergy himself" but Kazunari quickly adjust his energy so that Tsuzuru can just recharge without being overwhelmed. Yes it would drive Masumi completely nuts. Which i think is a plus for Tsuzuru like, hey, if Masumi gets annoyed once in a while it's a win. But yeah also i think that Tsuzuru and Kazunari should really have the Artistic Soldiarity of Students in Art school Probably Working Until Very Late To Complete Their Projects. Would love if at the end Tsuzuru gave it back yaknow?

but yeah their story was really nice i'm so glad you liked it! :D

oh god yeah Itaru and Citron were SO cute in it too, i also love the comments Citron makes about Itaru's winks. Just there flirting in front of everyone like those two embarrassing friends huh. (probably with Muku being all starry eyes considering he greatly admires both Itaru and Citron and, well, Romance.). And yeah i love how Itaru ends up so much into Citron's rhythm (and this idiom you said? is glorious actually, 10 points for you)

DLKFJDLKF what a call out toward Yuki. "yes i hate Tenma,no i won't shut up about him, also if YOU say you hate Tenma i'm going to stab you with my needles, have a nice fucking day.". I love their dynamics so much aha

And yeah Itaru is there cursing us the whole time with the fact he's the greatest nerd ever and it fits him perfectly. It makes me laugh so hard.

so i watched cobra kai all in two days and i have so many -

this show has so many cool and smart angles to it, but the same time.... its so stupid oh my god everyone is so dumb literally mr miyagi held all of the braincells in this whole universe

like i am but at the same time i am not surprised it was made like this, bc in hindsight of course there were hordes of ppl simping over johnny lawrence .... but it still amuses me that this is like... an Actual Official Thing

how much fun this cast has is super visible and i love it

i rly enjoy how the world was expanded ! i did grow up watching the karate kid movies, so watching how they progressed the world of the movies so organically was pretty cool. it rly feels like its the same universe

i fucking LOVE stories that are largely about a Thing. dancing ,skating, sports its just so thrilling to experience this all consuming relationship people can have with this type of activity? and martial arts are just that much more intense, so yeah, grown ass men kicking each other around at the lightest provocation and a war veteran caring so much abt teen karate is Ridiculous.... but i love it all because thats the intensity i find so thrilling

was kinda surprised with how much im missing mr. miyagi. first because, like everyone is so unhinged jesus christo, it just really throws into relief how much his character grounded the narrative of the movies. but also hes just a really great character

and on that note it rly Gets Me that the show itself aknowledges that and plays that into daniels angst and all the little ways they sorta weave myiagisms into the whole show........ im not getting emotional over this dumb karate dads show OK

they really went down the down and out johnny lawrence route huh. like i was always kinda bummed we see kreese choking him and then we never see him again in the movies, and while i love dumpster fire problematic trash himbo ck johnny, its like......................... actually really sad that his life turned out like this fjngn

everytime i hear ‘babes’ and ‘pussy’ i die a little inside. i know thats the point but i am a v cringe easy person, have mercy (ehe)

loved the way they are constantly drawing parallels between johnny and mr. myiagi of all people. hes the handy man of his building that has a bullied kid asking for help and eventually steps up to teach them karate, beats up a bunch of bullies for him, creates a friendship with said kid, estranged from family, drinks his sorrows away, surprisingly one of the least quick to anger characters (which says more about everyone else really but.... Well.), no schemes or ulterior motives hes just tryna vibe here.... oh and ofc magically heals miguel of is asthma apparently. the true disciple.. meanwhile daniel is his usual messy petty self even tho he wants to be mr myiagi so bad

also interesting about that is how miguels character is a parallel of both johnny and daniel at the same time

overall the parallels in ck are done really well, drawing comparisons and also subverting them constantly. theyre well thought out

THE PARALELOGRAMS

fr tho, the angle being explicitly the cycle of trauma and its effects and how trumatized adults in turn traumatize kids, maliciously or not, is so interesting

but! on the flip side of that, it feels like the writers are getting in their own way @ letting the characters grow. especially this last season. theres only so many times you can do "johnny and daniel are getting along but 5mins later they are (literally) fighting over some dumbass random issue" or "johnny puts in 20% of effort with robby and then gives up" before it gets on your nerves yknow?

i see daniel no longer talks like macchio ingested 15 shots of espresso before every take and idk how to feel about that tbh

interesting tension in daniel, as in, in tkk mr miyagi was there and daniel was frankly, kind of a lil shit, this messy petty spitfire hot tempered sassy kid,(johnny lawrence voice: just... stop being so annoying) but now hes the adult, and he wants to be mr. miyagi... but hes just not, and never will be to his very core and it shakes him and in a way hes trying to find who he is now that he sees himself in a position to be a not! cobra kai figure. i kinda really like that

plus how that relates to his cobra kai trauma. idk if the writers thought abt it Like That, i think so, but in any case, its interesting bc it seems like daniel has told everyone whod listen about johnny lawrence his Pretty Boy Karate Rival and high school and 84 cobra kai... But. no one seems to know what went on in 85 (or 86? idk) which was just so much worse

like ye og cobras were shitheads, but tkk iii is just two hours of daniel being emotionally and physically tortured.

like, the third movie is.............chaotic, to put it nicely, and many people ignore it, but the writers clearly didnt. daniels actions are, in a way, responding so much more to the events of tkk iii than to the first movie ie. johnny himself, AND. daniel doesnt rly seem to have dealt with that trauma? he never told sam? doesnt feel like hes ever told amanda? he doesnt even say terrys name out loud? freaks Out over kreese ? the way he reacts to robbys deceit? his FACE when he walks past the new "fear does not exist in this dojo" paint or kreeses photo? hmMm i sense Pain

his fashion tho........... disappointing. where are the flower shirts daniel huh we had one (1) shirt what a tragedy STOP WEARING SUITS ALL THE TIME . also the band ts/grunge bi are a look for johnny but part of me longs for the preppy lovable 80s bully chic johnny lawrence getups

weird that they never used that last moment of karate kid where johnny kinda... snaps out of his anger and hands daniel the trophy almost in tears. like “youre alright larusso, good match” “thanks a lot” that being their last direct interection seems like itd be perfect fruit for cobra kai but... they just dont. weird.

especially when, the FIRST SCENE they see each other, suposedly in 30+ years, the first thing to come out of daniels mouth is QUOTE "u still got those golden locks huh?" WHO SAYS SHIT LIKE THAT DANIEL FUCKING SAN

also amandas immediate reaction "your pretty boy rival?" like. can we talk about the fact that daniel had to have imparted to his wife the very important information that his high school bully/karate rival was like Really Cute and Fucking Hot Actually

the writers Knew exactly what they were doing and honestly.............. power to them

also I was thinking that daniel sounded strangely fond in that first scene, and i wonder if he developed a weird affection for johnny on the grounds that of all of his Karate Rivals johnny was actually the only one who didn’t actively tried to literally kill him

i was actually delightedly surprised with how great the chemistry between them is, like from the get go i am Invested. their rl friendship totally bleeds through and its fantastic

. granted, idiots enemies to lovers friends is my Thing so i am biased

johnny lawrence: i am down in the dumps, i fucked up my whole life and my sons probably, largely in light of the trauma that the father figure sensei and the philosophy of my karate inflicted on me and all my friends. u know what i should do, as a traumatized, unreliable mess of an adult? teach that same philosophy to some other kids! what could go wrong!

but really i enjoy the setup of it. i kinda like that i watched it late because, season 1 was johnny setting himself up for failure in a way and it was exciting to watch it all go to shit sjfn

Like. his heart might be in the right place, but theres just.... not a way to teach something like ‘strike hard, no mercy’ and not have it fuck up a kid

case and point: aisha, miguel and hawk become annoying as all hell over that bullshit in the end of s1, even before shit gets truly fucked up

billys subtle panicked eyes when he sees hawk and miguel fighting dirty in the all valley was SO GOOD especially in parallel with the panic that is so visible in his face in the movie when kreese tells bobby to injure daniel and in the sweep the leg scene

seen people question wether kreese should have returned and i absolutely think he needed to. johnny needed to realize that cobra kais fundamentals are flawed, at the root, beyond kreese himself being a toxic piece of shit

also who are we kidding? we are here to see the tkk characters play on new playgrounds!

i get what they're doing abt kreeses backstory, ( also. cobra kai. pq eles caem nas cobras djjs sorry) but did it need to take up that much time? feels like they couldve done it in half the run time and developed some other stories better

aisha was cool and im kinda mad she wasnt in s3, especially bc a storyline with her tory and sam was like RIGHT THERE , but also... cant say i was super super fond of her... doesnt feel like we ever spent enough time on her

overall its a good cast but the main draw for me remains the og cast

the tory/sam miguel/robby Thing. enjoy how theyre Narrative Foils and i like how their stories were so dramatically entangled but oh god give me a break with the teenage love square for the love of god. if u gonna put us through that at least have the decency to not make it so straight

and honestly some sam/tory miguel/robby romantic tension would even make more sense. just saying!

also im not sure how i feel abt the cobra kai: red miyagi do: blue theyre going with since some of daniels most iconic looks in tkk are also red. like it was a color they (johnny and him) sorta shared. i get it, opposite but complementary but idk... a little too fire nation and water tribe for me .

and like the cobra kai kids are so funny abt it bc their outifts grow progressively more ridiculously coordinated. its like do they group chat every morning before leaving their houses?

robby still sticks out like that tho. he went thru an athleisure/daniel san tsleeves phase and now hes back in the bandts grunge, but his color scheme doesnt fully blend with the other cobra kais. hmmmm.

LOVED LOVED LOVED both the okinawa episode and the cobra kais easy rider episode just such good good heart aching fun

bobby is an icon. he was in tkk and he is now ck hope appears more and more

tommy is like the most iconic background character. all his lines, freaking gold then and now. sigh :(

the framing in the okinawa trip was so good everything was so good

i stand by the fact that kumiko was the love interest daniel had the most chemistry with and shes is overall such a joy to watch, loved to see her again, idola, fashion icon

also really enjoyed chozens role in the episode, his evolution; i love that they introduced the pressure points (ty lee the blueprint) and! the honk + karate! cousins! absolutely iconic

when kumiko reads mr miyagis letters........ oh my god, my eyes FILLED with tears, it was so heart wrenching :(( tamlyns delivery was so emotional and lovely and its so obvious everyone involved in ck has so much love and respect for pat morita and mr miyagi as character, and i adore that it exists like this electric current through the show

when we were watching i told my sister i thought that ali would be miguels big shot surgeon and ngl i am so disappointed that didnt happen. hire me cobra kai writers

Naruto Shippuden Openings Ranked

Aight y'all, I said I would do this months ago, so here we are.

Just like my last ranking post, I have no real reasons as to why I like this OP over that one. They're just poor reasons and explanations that I'll probably change my mind about after posting.

But yeah, this is gonna be a long post, so let's get to it.

Also just a disclaimer- I had a very difficult time ranking the openings, especially at the bottom. Just note that I like and enjoy every OP except one.

Actual ranking is below the cut because yay I can use my laptop to make posts now :D

Number 20 - Tsuki no Ookisa - OP 14

I always thought this was called “Size of the Moon” or something like that

This OP

Oh boy

I used to just hate this one with a passion

And I still do!

Okay not literally, but it’s still my least favorite

I see what they were going for

Red, black and white vibes

It’s….okay?

And the song

Yeeesh

It just doesn’t make me feel anything but the huge urge to skip it

I’m so sorry if you really like this OP but goodness I really don’t like it

It’s one of the only ones I don’t like vs don’t mind

I will say

The end though?

Where its showing the freeze frames of everyone

That looks great

Itachi at the beginning looks great

It definitely has its moments, but just not enough to make me really enjoy it

Number 19 - Hotaru no Hikari - OP 5

Now that I’ve seen all of them, I kinda have this bias of “I know what the next opening is and that’s a whole BANGER” so I kinda sleep on this one

But its not bad

I always love the Naruto and Sasuke parallel shots

Just not up there for me

Number 18 - Guren - OP 15

Another OP I lowkey just disregard after watching all of them because we all know what follows this one

But it’s not bad at all

I love the split screens

And then it all comes together

Kakashi and Obito’s split screen looks amazing

Actually, all of their shots look amazing

The song goes well with the visuals

I love the colors they used

Seeing Madara is always a treat

The shot of the hokage is good

But uhhh

Yeah that’s about all I got

Number 17 - Newsong - OP 10

Don't kill me plez

A lot of people don’t like this OP

I can see where they’re coming from

But it's goofy and wacky, and honestly not so bad

It ain’t nowhere near top tier, but I can enjoy it more times than not

The part where they’re running and do a lil jump

That took me out when I first saw it

The animation is supposed to accompany the wacky feel, and I feel that the animators had a lot of fun with this one

Overall, I don’t dislike this OP like most

I actually like it

But admittedly, it’s not strong

It’s very cute tho

It makes me smile

That team jutsu though

What the hell

I don’t know how I feel bout that

Also B falling

That was a nice addition

Also also Sasuke refused to be a part of this wacky ass OP which I love

Number 16 - Niwaka Ame ni mo Makezu - OP 13

This OP is fine

It doesn’t really do anything for me until the 5 Kage are shown fighting Madara

Which looks great by the way

But also gives me storm 3 war flashbacks

It’s pretty overall

Like all the parts with Naruto look really good

The individual shots of the 5 Kage and Sasuke are meh

I don’t really care for that part

Overall, ehhh

Number 15 - Moshimo - OP 12

I’m not gonna lie

I totally forgot about this OP

It’s fine

Nothing really excites me

I do like 2 parts though

Where Ay tries to punch Minato and he gets out of the way to fist bump baby B

And when Naruto is in the middle and it zooms out to show Kushina and Minato behind him

The song is good

Overall, okay opening

I was torn over whether to put this one above or below OP 13, but I decided above because I like the ending part more

Number 14 - Toumei Datta Sekai - OP 7

Another OP I really slept on

A lot of people really adore this one but I just don't see it??

It takes a second to kick off

It really only gets started for real when we see Pain and the trio’s flashbacks

After that, it’s pretty good

The music picks up, the visuals start getting quite interesting

And that Pain v Naruto moment where they just stare at each other and it shows both faces

Looks amazing

And of course, Kakashi brings some spice into the mix

It’s always a great time when we can see him in action

Makes me wish we got the girls v Konan though

But yeah, the shot with Naruto falling in

From then on, it's incredible

Number 13 - LINE - OP 18

From here on, these OPs are just the ones I love

This OP is a major breather

The song is very slow and nice

Visually, I love the choice in focusing on one thing at a time

Once character at a time

It looks very nice

The little destiny shard flying around

And I love how there’s variants in who interacts with the shard at the very end

My favorite is Itachi because he gives the shard to us and I’m not crying you are

It’s really pretty too

Not much to say here

I just really like it

It’s not top tier, but it’s a great OP nonetheless

Number 12 - Closer - OP 4

THAT SHOT AT THE BEGINNING

Where everyone is looking back

I absolutely love it

I absolutely must know if the budget was actually blown on Hidan spinning his scythe

The shot looks great though

Another vibe kinda opening

The ending is so cute with Naruto jumping in the air

they did that to cover the gaping hole in our hearts

Also I completely forgot there was a second version until I saw it while pulling up the link

First version is better

Number 11 - Lovers - OP 9

That beginning part with the camera cutting and focusing on the three

Yeah that right there is great

And the explosion behind Killer B

Love that shit

They really went all out for the aesthetic kinda look

And it really pays off because the OP looks very very good

The song is pretty good too

But I probably wouldn’t listen to it outside of what’s in the OP

Every shot with Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura on the divide is really good

Number 10 - Blood Circulator - OP 19

Ah the top 10

Another song that is hype asf

I honestly prefer the third version with Naruto and Sasuke

But even still, this OP is pretty great

It’s a lot better visually in the second version because there’s not a lot of lingering shots

I love the shots of Minato, Kushina, Jiraiya, Orochimaru, Itachi and Iruka

But I also love that the whole first version is summed up in no time in the second and we move onto better shots

But the third version is the best visually

With the fights and flashbacks

And the ending with Sasuke staring and Naruto crying and then they fight

That rasengan is great

But even still, all versions look pretty good

I really don’t have that much to say about this one

I enjoy it quite a lot

Number 9 - Hero’s Come Back!! - OP 1

Everybody and they mama be dancing to this I swear

It’s a bop and a half

Honestly what a great way to start the series

I’m bopping every time it comes on

And that shot of Gaara holding out his hand before he don’t feel so good

I mean, what else can I say about this one

It’s just great

Number 8 - Totsugeki Rock - OP 11

First things first

THE SONG????

IT’S A WHOLE BOP

EVERY TIME I HEAR IT

I GET SO HYPE

Naruto’s face at the beginning caught me off guard the first time I saw it

Visually, this OP isn’t bad at all

I actually really enjoy this OP a lot

It makes me dance and headbang lmao

I would say the song carries this one, but nah

The visuals really go well with the song

I really don’t have much to say about this one

It really is just so fun and hype

And I really love it

Number 7 - Kaze - OP 17

This OP is very pretty

It’s another one I slept on

It’s animated so well

All of the freeze frames we see are stunning

And it’s animated very well

Also long Kakashi segments always get extra points from me

And this one is gorgeous so even more points

I love the kinda traditional style they were aiming for with the textures

The cuts to the hand signs are good too

Also in sync with the music which y’all know I love

The aesthetics in general are just so lovely

HE LOOK AMAZING IN THIS STYLE

This OP has some of the best visuals in all of the OPs

I can’t even express how beautiful it looks

And seeing Minato and Rin slowly fade by as Obito falls and Kaguya is revealed

It caught my attention when I first started watching Shippuden

And it’s very pleasing to look at

The walking scenes are the best

The visuals with this one carry it on home

I LOVE Diver

It’s another OP that just always got my attention from the get go

They really calmed down with the visuals on this one

Instead opting to have the very pleasing gentle visuals that match so well with the song

And then he gets blasted out of the water and it gets SO GOOD UGH

All the hidden gems you don’t recognize until you rewatch it after seeing everything come together

I love that

And then Sasuke coming in to get all up in Naruto’s personal space just to fuckin chidori the shit out of him

It’s quite sad

But then his friends just lift him up

My heart

Then he wastes no time just rushing in to save Sasuke in the same 30 seconds as when Sasuke attacked him

It really shows his character

But also it was a whole direct reference to how Sasuke was looking over him back when he first left in the rain

That’s the subtle little hidden gems I love to see

Also the music just slaps so hard???

A:TLA romantic ships part 1

yes, no one asked for my opinions, yes I will give them anyway, yes because I have decided making a bunch of meaningless decisions and arguing for them will improve my mental state, yes I watched the show all in one very sleep deprived go and i’m not interested in rewatching it so yes I have absolutely no sources, yes this is a really long grammatical nightmare because I don’ t know how to be succinct and i use way more words than necessary at any opportunity because if my point doesn’ t come across exactly like i intend it will greatly upset me, no I have not yet watched Korra or read the comics because i’m tired now let’s do this.

from 0 I despise people who ship this immediately to 10 I will read absolutely anything with this, I love it and could draw it for hours on how much I think the relationship would be good and how happy it makes me

Kataang (looks like a comic book sound effect so plus points)

very clearly built up over the series

cute kid crushes also ngl did not know katara was 14 and not older 12 or 13 so didn’t care about age when watching

now I know she’s 14 and he’s 12 it’s a little weird but still

haters say katara was just the avatar’s trophy girl, as if aang didnt kiss the ground she walked on and wouldnt stop telling anyone how amazing she is. Katara was the first face he saw from the new world and they immediately became friends. she was so excited to meet another bender, he clearly is trying to impress her and it is working, he listens to her about bending and offers to take her to the other side of the world to master water, TELL ME at this moment she is not ride or die and she doesn’t even know he’s the avatar, he lets her feel like a kid again, which is a feeling she’s forgotten after years of being a mother to sokka and the children. he literally sweeps her off her feet to save her from the fire nations ship i-. rewatched boy in the iceberg and hoo boy had canon not messed it up, this ship could have been legendary

hard to imagine older them working out what with the whole last airbender, preserve air nomad culture, let’s travel the world bc nomadic lifestyle, what’s marriage i’m a monk without biological family values vs last southern waterbender, preserve southern water tribe culture, I believe in the power of family and am ridiculously dedicated to my tribe, let me go home to my father and tribe shtick, but I don’t care for after the show finishes much except for following the gang fix the world so I don’t really care about the marriage issue

canon was good until that Mess in season 3, WHY did he kiss her after that speech, wish they talked that out properly, wish he learned letting go of her to open the 7th chakra was the only right decision, wish the ending was a little more vague in ships and just left things open but yk whatever

that finale kiss was sweet, they hugged foremost as friends, no blushing, and then got the fuzzies, that moment standing alone? a+ but without any talking about what happened on ember island, a little unsatisfying

overall, fine ship, not my favourite nor do I actively ship it, but I see a kataang moment, i’m like, sweet so I give it a 6

Zutara (apparently fans are zutarians which looks like an alien race, plus points)

latter half of the show had quite a lot of Zutara potential, but idk about Zutara actual

katara was so ready to drop his ass, no way at the start

there is only one dynamic between them in which I can see Zutara working and that is as in the Stalking Zuko by emletish series where katara is so distrusting over zuko she takes to stalking him to make sure he isn’t doing anything to hurt Aang or about to betray them (her) again but he is just such a sweet dork who keeps trying to apologise to her even while she’s apologising to him for being a bitch that she can’t help but start to trust him, i’m a third into the third book in the series not stalking firelord zuko and I am thriving and tbh this is the only situation where I accept zutara, read the series I love it

age gap is weird, I know it’s the same difference between kataang but they made a point of zuko being older in the show also he’s so much taller and I don’t like 16 year old boys with 14 year old girlfriends in real life and so would katara because jet

katara has a bad experience with bad boy sword weilders (jet) but I guess you could see it as the start of her type idk

they are both the moms of the Gaang. sokka is the fun dad.

there is a parallel between their families, with the leader of their people dad, mom who left the picture when they were young, an older brother who is not a prodigy at/can’ t bend their respective element so they become proficient at swords instead, prodigy at bending younger sister with a violent streak. this is why I see zutara as potentially a really close friendship, almost siblings, but not a romance because to me katara is a little too like azula for comfort...

tbh I think a lot of folk shipped it because ooh fire boy and water girl (not the game) that’ s perfect, and bam army of zutarians

overall, kind of weird but ok and good grounds for humour so I give it a 4

Jetkara (bad ship name, why would you like this, minus points)

Jet is bad. yes Katara really liked him, yes he was definitely her first kiss and she would definitely consider him her first boyfriend but they would not define it because it’s easier to manipulate someone when it’s unclear what your relationship is and Jet is bad, with his weird fricking eyebrows and not even real swords those hook swords

Jinko (cool name, reminds me of Hong Jinkyung, plus points)

short but so sweet. not the first thing people remember from watching the tales of ba sing se (brb going to rewatch and cry) but really cute, so here’s a running commentary

his first thought was she knew they were fire nation rather than a pretty girl sat in a teashop giving him looks because she had a crush omg

that honest surprise when his uncle suggested she liked her and then she walked up and asked him on a date, adorable

anyone who looked at that god-awful hairstyle and still thought he looked cute has it bad also aww that hair ruffle and the little grab onto his arm

he’s pushing his food around and she’s trying out ice breaker questions and recieving one word responses he has no idea what he’s doing

“she is not my GIRLFRIEND” he’s not over Mai, clearly but he still is trying his best to be a good date even if he’s terrible at making conversation

anyone who sat through that date and the bad lying and the stilted conversation and still thought he was cute has it bad

he is So Bad At Lying he just told the truth very vaguely and then bam travelling circus

jin so knows the two are fire nation, the whole date she just politely ignores the clear lies and doesn’t react to the obvious firebending, what an icon we love jin

honestly I was really expecting the show to reveal that jin knew he was a firebender if not from the start then from the lights but eh I guess she can keep a secret, good for her

HE KISSED HER BACK BEFORE REALISING A RELATIONSHIP COULD NEVER GO WELL AND HE MAY HAVE ANGSTILY STORMED OFF BUT HE ADMITTED IT WAS A NICE TIME TO HIS UNCLE

that being said I can’t see anything more happening but this date but omg imagine fire lord zuko coming back to visit and they become friends I-

overwhelming support for pre-date jin flirting to an oblivious zuko and the date Jinko, 8

Maiko (name would be a good name for a cat idk why)

childhood sweethearts before the banishment i think

she crushed because he saved her hair from getting burnt by tackling her into a fountain? adorable

I love mai she’s so funny but I think not the best match for zuko? he has a lot of trauma to get over and she doesn’t seem like the let all your feelings out and let’s talk about it until you feel better kind of person. it was deeply ingrained in her to keep all of her feelings and emotions strongly hidden because she got what she wanted from her politician parents so long as she was quiet, well-mannered, and perfectly behaved according to avatar wiki so I get why she’s that way, until I was 11 I was that way too all the time, I understand freezing your face so you don’t look afraid or upset or angry and risk annoying adults, but I don’t think that that would fit zuko with his social ineptness

they literally broke up twice but are just assumed back together? she just surprised him and said they were back together and I think he forgot she existed

the deadpan firelady and the fire lord would be hilarious together tho she got the ruthlessness he lacks

post coronation I can see it happening, 6 but under Kataang

Sukka (terrible name lmao)

the cutest, sokka very excitedly says “Suki!! :DDD” every time he sees her

she didn’t give him the time of day until HE changed, incredible

just the best canon ship, the two nonbenders in the Gaang but very clearly shown to be important key members.

suki is sneaky and badass, rivalling zuko for position on the team as the sneaky badass one (they tie and bond over being sneaky and badass)

sokka is a great dad, he is the dad of the Gaang and he clearly loves suki and suki loves him back

sokka ships are ELITE, 9

Taang (a delicious orange drink mix that reminds me of home, nostalgia)

foreshadowing from the swamp where someone aang loved in the future really made me think taang was endgame yk

opposite elements ideology that I guess is what zutarians like also leaves everyone in the gang dating a Gaang member if zutara happens

actually the same age but not much else going for it

best friends, 4 but under Zutara

Tokka (great name of a small pet fight me)

sokka ships are elite, childhood crush turned adult strong friendship

I really like seeing the rough, tough, greatest earthbender in the world have a crush, adorable

sokka is a great friend and his and toph’s canon relationship is so sweet, I wouldn’t change it

toph was fully going to give sokka a kiss on the cheek for saving her life i’m melting

age difference is too weird for a romance he’s like 16 or 17 by the end I think and she’s 12

best friends, 10 as a relationship in the show, 2, but in their 20s after the show... 4 but under Taang

Toko (very forgettable name but both characters have 4 letters so I guess it’s hard to come up with something memorable but every time I read it as Toph because same shape ish so minus points for being annoying)

even weirder age gap than Tokka

not many moments that could be considered romantic?

toph first accepted zuko despite him burning her feet, how she sees, which was big and they resolved problems between them quickly

toph clinging to his arm and asking for a life changing field trip caused him to blush, but I see that as him being like oh someone wants to spend time with me?? she’s hugging me??? what is this

convenient ship for kataangers because the Gaang could be paired off as Kataang, Sukka, Toko

her crush on sokka seemed to go away or calm down when he showed up and she punched him and teased him a lot, her way of bonding

similar strict teaching styles and bonding over secret identities as Blue Spirit and Blind Bandit and parental issues and being the children of important families who made them run away to enjoy not having anything to do with politics and being nobility with impaired vision who have never stepped into a kitchen in their lives and being used to servants and then being on the run

I really see them as siblings with her helping him relax from his duties as fire lord because you already know this boy’s sense of honour is going to make him work tirelessly to fix the world and him helping her relax from the whole i’m not a fragile, weak little blind girl, i’m the greatest earthbender in the world shtick and reminding her she can be both a blind 12 year old girl and the most powerful earthbender in the world, she can accept help without being weak or lesser than anyone, people want to help because they care not that they pity you

best friends 10, relationship in show 1, after show 3

Ty Lokka (I don’t like this name looks like a place but can think of nothing better)

yeah I guess ty lee’s obvious flirting is grounds for a ship but in every interaction he’s involved with someone else and doesn’t seem to like her as a person

do they even interact while on the same side?

friendly aquaintances at best, don’ t understand, 2 but above Jetkara

Tyzula (don’t like this name, like a mineral water?)

canon I don’t care it is canonically a possessive relationship

azula’s only genuine apology goes to ty lee after hurting her feelings

Azula clearly loves ty lee, her betrayal sends her mad

after a lot of therapy for azula and apologies, maybe a healthy relationship could form after the show, 8 above Jinko

Yukka (looks like a childish insult, surely someone could have thought of a better name)

Sokka’s love for Yue stays with him for the rest of his life, she was the first person to die in front of him and he sees the moon as her facing the earth

love this forbidden lovers content, sokka ships stay elite

Sokka and Yue spend as much time together as possible with secret midnight dates flirting (“you wanna do an...activity together?”) Sokka’s reaction to Yue’s engagement shows that he wants to have a serious relationship with her, and also he thinks Hahn is a bad person for Yue, which he is.

Yue dying devastated him and he never falls out of love with Yue. her last words “[she] will always be with him” are true. swamp visions show Yue as one of the most important people in his life like a season or so after he last saw her. he wouldn’t kiss suki in front of the moon, and cries when Yue appears on stage, ignoring Suki. he talks about the moon as if it is directly Princess Yue in that cactus juice scene.

she died in his arms oh my god don’t look i crying, he feels personally responsible and guilty

yue was great even though she was the indigenous or black girl with light hair and eyes character and I wish she could have helped aang in the spirit world

despite her arranged engagement she clearly really likes sokka even though she knows nothing can happen, 9

Finale commentary under the cut

So I wanted to kind of liveblog as I was watching but held back so these are my remembered reactions/second watch reactions

Bummed there was no song recap but quickly figured itd play at the end

PUPPY. Best part of the ep, lbr, Dean was so cute with him

Theyre really doing a cheesey life montage huh - still not clear whether monsters are a thing in this new world?

I was watching the mins tick by during this first montage like OKAY we get it, cheesey happy home life, move along. There was only 40 mins left of the whole show like get on with it, it went way too long

We definately needed to restablished that Sam is neat while Dean is messy. Totally necessary to spend time on that. Also didnt Dean get houseproud when they moved into the bunker?? What happened to that?

OMG get on with it

Then becomes apparent that hunting is still a thing. Which if so what was the point of showing then doing fucking laundry and dishes while “Ordinary life” plays - if its not just an ordinary life?

At this point i thought it might go the route of them being listless without hunting as a job but then murder scene so I guess not

This whole pie sequence is stupid and a waste of time, we all know it

Dean being a cold, heartless bitch about everyone being dead. Aces. Not unexpected but still just great. How dare you be so happy about pie fuck you dude.

I started skipping through during the murder scene. I was bored. Like, I dont care about tension building to the murder of a family we dont fucking know. Ive always skipped these scenes, what is the damn point. Its not scary or interesting.

Same old FBI bullshit. Nice to see the journal again I guess. But like, this is STILL what we’re doing? In the very last ep? Same old, different day, just like 15 years ago. Really?

I skipped through the interrogation too. I dont find the scary brother act cool or entertaining

15 mins in and nothing has happened

Theyre trying so hard to give Dean jokes and nothing is landing, its so cringe just stop

The way the little clown faces pop up - if that supposed to be scary? Really? Its all just so silly rn

Watching it again I realise just how easy this hunt is. The answer is in the journal. They find the exact family. They find the exact barn. The kids are just stood in a cupboard. This is what takes Dean out, really? Its not even a normal hunt, its a way too fucking easy one.

I do not remember this chick or what ep she was in, maybe theres some parallell or foreshadowing by bringing her back but if there is I dont get it

Bottom line if youre gonna bring people back WHY THE FUCK THIS RANDOM GIRL

I knew so fast he was gonna go out like that. Hanging from a fucking nail

I kept saying out loud not like this, no way, this is so stupid, its so stupid omg

I paused and tried to talk myself into putting aside how stupid and awkward it was for him to be doing this scene hanging off a pole and just try to invest in the emotion of the speech. Which I achieved at times

but why was is so awkward tho?? Just the way hes stood pressed against it is fucking weird. Also 1000% Sam couldve gotten help and he wouldve been FINE. It took so long for them to talk, an ambulance couldve been there before they were done, there was no need for this

Okay the speech did make me cry once I pep talked myself into being invested. The reference to being scared Sam would reject him, the I love you so much, Sam saying dont leave me, the stay with me and tell me its okay - all those moments got me and I did cry. I appreciated the family business line. I liked Jensen telling Jared he always keeps fighting, that was a nice reference.

BUT there were also those moments that made me scoff, roll my eyes or laugh. The whole “always you and me” bullshit especially. The second I knew he was going to say I’ll be in your heart I yelled at them to no do it, I hate that cheesey move, then literally was like “oh my god, he did it”. It WAS NOT always going to end like this - so much of the last 15 years was proving him wrong about that. This is all just so wrong, it is not good.

Jensen and Jared did a good job with what they were given in this scene but my god

The audacity of the Cas erasure- always you and me. FUCK YOU.

I laughed out loud when his last shot was a One Perfect Tear. I was literally like “Oh wow they did that”

DEAN DESERVED A BETTER DEATH

It also kinda loses all impact when you see him like 2 mins later

MIRACLE IS THE REAL MVP ILY

Theyre really doing another montage. Really. Like we get it, hes sad, we didnt need the toast to understand that

Looking around his room like beer and guns was all dean was. Sure. Aces.

I choose to believe Bon Jovi was a ref to before Dean went to hell

Why is that shot made to look like hes leaving the bunker forever?? Like that makes no sense

Bobby greeting him is nice and all BUT IT SHOULDVE BEEN CAS

Also they are 1000% doing the show don’t tell by having Bobby just sit and explain everything. SO FUCKING LAZY

Cas has been out of the empty, helping rebuild heaven. Okay, fine. Even Dean’s reaction to hearing that was fine. BUT YOU ASK WHERE YOUR FUCKING BEST FRIEND IS AND GO SEE HIM. WHO IS THIS VERSION OF DEAN WTF

I know people are upset Cas is back working in heaven but I dont think its anything like before. It sounds like he helped fixed things then got his own heaven. Also he’s God’s Dad, hes not serving God, hes teaching him. I know human Cas done right is what we wanted but I dont hate this for him. BUT WE SHOULD HAVE FUCKING SEEN IT.

Why is a memory of being a kid with his Dad what Dean is reminiscing on. They have literally reverted him back to s1. There are so many memories dean should be thinking about in fucking heaven

In the car he was just in

WHY THE FUCK IS HE ACTING LIKE HE HASNT SEEN BABY IN YEARS WHAT IS THIS SHIT

Hes going to drive around doing nothing until Sam gets there are you fucking kidding me. Not going to see any of his family from the last 15 years, just driving. Absolute horseshit.

This is the moment where you realise that this episode has changed NOTHING. This is the same ending as the last ep except theyre in heaven not on earth

ITS THE EXACT SAME FUCKING THING

Okay so they skip over how Sam went from going on a hunt to walking with a toddler. OMG how unsubtle that they have literally just labelled the child Dean in big yellow letters. I couldnt help but laugh, how fucking stupid.

I did get a bit teary when the music started I’ll be honest. But mostly through the whole montage (ANOTHER ONE) I was saying to myself This is so fucking stupid. omg this is dumb, what the fuck is this, so stupid.

They literally did a montage so long they had to play the song twice. Im just done at this point wow.

The old man make up is so bad I just laughed. The only pictures being of the 4 of them, reinforcing the Winchester only bullshit, great. Not even pics of this new random family Sam’s got. The painfully cliche Dad moments for Sam, again so bad its funny. Omg the hand on the head of this random kid, this is so ridiculous. Old man sam in his bad wig trying so hard to move like hes old and crying in the impala. Wtf is happening, this is SO STUPID

I thought theyd cast a more attractive son I’ll be honest. So he has the tattoo - are they a hunting family? Because that would go against both s1 Sam they’ve tried to go back to and the s15 Sam they build up to for all those years

I know they were going for an emotional parallel with that “you can go now” but this random man saying it to Sam in that make up, with the music cue lined up right there - its just funny coz its so dumb im sorry

I cant believe they actually played another different version, I’ll never get over that

The cut almost immediately to them talking to the camera, still in character getup, was so cringe I yelled and turned it off

And they pan out to literally none of the people we want to see . Great, Good.

Daisy/Sousa

I really like them for a number of reasons: 1 he makes Daisy happy 2 they are hot together 3 the trolling!!!! Plus, I loved how it enchanced the narrative. Their scenes together are very cute and the first time when I actually watched instead of lurking in the tags was the time loop episode which was great for the ship.

P. S. In another episode of "TVD scarred me for life" I now see Steggy-Daniel as Stelena-Caroline with Daisy playing Klaus' role, lmfao!

Jemma/Fitz

The finale did a miracle for me, making me lile Fitzsimmons. Well, sort of. I certanly don't resent them anymore, even find their last scenes with Alya very cute. Idk how I'll feel when I will rewatch the whole show, even the two seasons I skipped. We'll see.

Sidenote: They were totally AOS's version of Pepperony+Morgan, weren't they? My God, the Endgame trolling was real xD.

Mack/Elena

It's cute and I am glad Mack got such an amazing ship. They were at their best in season 4, imo, but even in season 7 they got their moments: aside from the finale, I loved the episode where they meet Mack's parents back in the 80's.

May/Coulson

I count it because of what you told me of season 5 finale. Honestly, I really liked how much May was into him (the real him, not the LMD one, even if season 7 did provide some nice moments for the half-LMD ship). And seeing Coulson with May always made me like him a lot more. As with Yoyomack, I feel they were at their best in season 4. Tho, I am curious how I will feel during the rewatch.

Claire/Douxie/Jim

Cuties!! Clearly, Jim/Claire is the best ship in the whole verse, but I loved how soft both of them were with Douxie. And the parallels between the new trio and Morgana/Merlin/Arthur made me really appreciate the dynamic. I really wish that the movie will be kind to them as I want more content.

Top 10 Scenes in TDP Season 1 (pt. 1/3)

*not ordered in which is better or worse, but it will be in chronological order*

Also some things are worded weirdly. I have a pain in the ass time trying to get my thoughts across in words so... I thank you for your patience :))

1) The scene where Callum, Ezran, and Rayla find the dragon prince. Ep. 2

I think this is one of the more pivotal moments in the show. I mean it is literally the scene that sets the story in motion after all! Two human princes, an elf assassin, and the lost dragon prince (who was thought to be dead/gone/egg destroyed(?)).. this is just IT.

*also i’m aware that Ez probably found the egg first cos he already knew about this secret area but still

2) Viren (attempts to) proposes the idea to trade his life in for Harrow. Ep. 3

Now there are other well thought and well written posts on this scene with Viren and Harrow, so I won't waste your time with all the gushy stuff. I find this scene important because it shows the lengths that Viren would go for his friend. Whether he's doing out of the goodness of his heart or some other selfish reason... maybe both(?)..

!WARNING! MINI VIREN POST ALERT EVEN THO I SAID I WOULDN'T GET INTO IT

In the book Moon, it dives deeper into the plot along with expressing the characters' thoughts and feelings. As for Viren, it's stated in the book that he wanted to:

"offer his life for Harrow's, but he wanted him to understand that this was more than just a sacrifice of a subject to his king. This was personal"

"... he would need to be straightforward. He wanted to say simply I love you and I will die for you" (Ehasz 80).

I have no doubts that Viren didn't not love Harrow or anything of the sorts, but at the same time it feels like there was another motive. Maybe there was, who knows.

All we know about Viren is that he's a father of two (Claudia & Soren), divorced/ separated from his wife, and he's a dark mage. Of course there's some more (like he's taller than Harrow according to the character line up)... also his staff... like if you look at it, it's the same one as the mage who faced Sol Regem all those centuries (?) ago. Maybe he's related to him, or possibly descended from one of the followers. I'd imagine that teaching dark magic may be a thing within his family and ancestors... he taught Claudia dark magic. That doesn't prove anything but it's a small thought.

ANYWAY-- this scene is one of many scenes that show Viren in a vulnerable state. The book gives a look into how he felt when he decided to sacrifice himself and everything. It's just interesting and I'm here for it.

3) Amaya and her weapons grade baguette Ep. 4

On a less serious and more fun note, the fact that Amaya is a breakfast connoisseur is just perfect. Amazing. Fantabulous.

"As a breakfast connoisseur, she was offended that Ezran would neglect a hearty morning meal" (Ehasz 120).

I only emboldened and italicized "offended" because in the show YOU CAN LITERALLY SEE HER FACE WHEN EZ TELLS HER.

Bruh she was so offended lmaooo

It's right at 13:36 time in the show... the slow zoom in and all 😂

4) Amaya and Gren meeting Viren at the statue Ep. 5

I’m trying to see if I should have paired this with the first scene where Amaya arrives first. That scene is pretty calm but has a somber feeling. It introduces the relationship of Amaya and Sarai without having to directly say it.

But this scene here is... interesting. Not in a good way or bad way, but we see they’re reminiscing of the past. At some point, they all got along nicely. Callum even noted in his spellbook that Viren’s family became like a second family to him when he moved to the castle.

This interaction was cute tho. It started out positive (sort of) with them joking about Viren eating the last jelly tart which pissed Sarai off lol. But then Viren went on to apologize to Amaya and reassured her that what he does is out of the goodness of his heart and love for Katolis. But...

“Aaaaand, he’s back, Amaya thought” (Ehasz 150).

And then went on to sign that he’s on a bunch of bs. See? Even Amaya knows he’s full of shit lol. But really tho... it makes me wonder how much of bs Viren goes on even before the events of the current story line.

5) Rayla saves Bait from the sea monster Ep. 5

Let us give a round of applause for Rayla going against her fear of water to save Bait, the grumpy frog who hates her. I think this just goes to show how compassionate Rayla really is. This would include the time when she goes back to grab bait back in the banther lodge in episode 4.

6) Viren giving his kids their *secret* missions Ep. 6

Okay this isn’t just one scene. I cheated yeah yeah whatever >:3

When Viren is telling Soren what he must do when he finds the princes, at first he doesn’t fully get it, but then.. OH n0

Viren’s intentions are starting to unfold and come together as one. Like, this man just told his own SON that should he find the princes, he should kill them. This 18 yr old bby

And Viren didn’t say it aloud, but he heavily implied it. Only to then gaslight him later on when Claudia confronts him in prison.

As for Claudia, Viren tells her that she must retrieve the egg. And do everything in her power to bring it back, even if it means that she’ll have to sacrifice Soren... her own damn brother ;-;

7) When Callum finally lets Rayla hold the egg Ep. 6

This scene is pretty big. Rayla knows that Harrow is long gone and is trying to find a way to tell them. Obviously she doesn’t choose the best time to try it.

They were in a dire situation that could potentially kill them (even tho they had plenty of those moments already). The reason why this scene is so big is because it shows her struggle to break the bad news (ever since the right binding fell) as she continues to grow closer to them. Here you can see Callum passing the egg to her, despite her hand being in the terrible state that it is in. It is also the scene where right before passing it, he finally tells Rayla that he trusts her.

8) Human Rayla!! Ep. 7

Human Rayla is so corny but it’s the good kind of corny. One of the best comedic jokes in the series!

That is all cos human Rayla needs an AU of being a nighttime tv host or smthg

9) Viren and Runaan Ep. 8

yo this is alot okay. The scenes with these two introduced some Moonshadow philosophy and such (ie. not being scared of death). Runaan being the stoic and serious assassin that he is. And Viren not having any of this shit.

There are three major things here:

Runaan knows about the mirror and is most likely aware of who Aaravos is. He literally says, “That mirror? You have found something worse than death.” Goddamn...

And then Viren just... trapped his soul.. his essence into a goddamn coin. Just like that? wow. And hold it, almost admiring it in front of Gren.

Also this is the first time we officially see Viren in that form. In the beginning of episode 5 we are given a darkened silhouette of Viren and the butterflies. But here we see the damage resulted from years of having done dark magic, and it’s horrifying. He is the high mage and all but goddamn. I mean with every action there are consequences so-

10) Callum destroying the primal stone Ep. 9

I feel like this is one of the “of course it’s this one!” scenes but it really is! Callum realizes that only a sky dragon can be hatched in the eye of storm and there he is with a literal storm in his hand. By now, Callum has come to understanding what feels right and that being a mage is his destiny. But he also understands that he needs to sacrifice some things for new beginnings. This whole journey was to get the lost dragon prince home and restore balance and peace and with the egg starting to die... well you can’t really do that without the egg.

It’s at 18:50 where he realizes all of this. It’s one of the big boy moments in the show. Seriously, it’s a big moment and the suspension helped get the feels in. And we got a cute baby dragon!!

End, begin. it’s all the same. (pls someone get that reference ;-;;;)

Some honorable mentions:

- Episode 7: Claudia and Soren interacting. I love their sibling bond; it’s so silly and sweet and I love it. It makes me wish I had an older brother of some sort.

Ellis and Ava,, I like the flashback story given when they meet the dragang. I just like it, okay? Smol chiald w/ smol wolf pup and a hippie Lujaane seeing the beauty & strength in Ava.

CGI Coran. That all I have to say about that guy lmao

- Episode 8: When the group is going up the cursed caldera and they encounter that giant leech. Like can we just appreciate Callum’s funny way of making out a plan? Fat respect for that.

Another is when the group split up and waited for the leech to leave. The conversation between Ellis and Callum were sweet as was the one between Rayla and Ez. I loved Ellis’s admiration for Callum being a mage. And her expectations of what a mage was is pretty hilarious. So wholesome. The same goes for Ez when he gave Rayla that daily fill of positivity.

Like... Ellis is telling Callum how smart and confident and cool he is. And meanwhile Callum is like... it’s not me, it’s this. *whips out primal stone* And she goes on to tell him that she believe he’ll be amazing with or without the stone.

And Rayla is telling Ez how she failed in her job of killing the enemy. And Ez is telling her how she’s awesome at everything she does.

this is the positive wholesome shit I come for like... this is parallels but GODDAMNIT it’s so.. ;;;;-;;

pete i owe u my life

*proceeds to write a fucking essay on why i love every single character in undertale*

i love all the characters in undertale. i just love how real they are. how real their motives feel. and how those motives don’t always have to be like “i wanna free everyone” how those motives can be flawed or how those motives can be as simple and genuine as “a lady i don’t know asked me to protect you and i’m honoring that because she likes my knock knock jokes” and how each character is connected in some way, they just feel so natural and real and alive and it brings their world to life as well.

and i also adore the fact that you can’t get to the true ending of the game until you meet and befriend every single one of these characters. it’s the fact that your bond with them is what incites all of these characters to save you. and it’s the fact that they end up being what pushes you onwards, to save them, and save everyone as well.

undertale could’ve just been a game where monsters are trapped underground and you free them someway somehow, but it’s just. so much more than that.

anyways here’s just a few reasons why i love every one of undertale’s characters in no specific order:

alphys

in all honesty, i rlly appreciate alphys’s character. for most of the neutral run, the person you’re getting to know isn’t actually the true alphys. and u end up finding out she was lying to u the whole time, using mettaton to help her fabricate this narrative. it’s so SO fitting that alphys is the one u have to go back for to get the true ending. u end up seeing her tear that persona down bc she wants to better herself. and u end up seeing her admit to her mistakes, and change, and do better. and it’s just, so healthy to see an adult character with all these insecurities who’s avoiding her mistakes actually improve herself.

sans

sans is rlly a wholesome character. it’s so clear that he genuinely cares about everyone in the underground. i mean, look at what happens when u go to grillbyz with him! everyone knows and loves him! he sells hot dogs at his sentry station to monsters, he does stand up comedy at the hotel to keep everybody happy, he starts a fucking pretend concert when ur jamming out with shyren. his entire motivation for not killing frisk the second they left the ruins is bc someone he didn’t even kno asked him not to and “someone who genuinely likes knock knock jokes has an integrity* u just can’t say no to” i’m CRYING. and it’s clear that he’s not the happiest skeleton in the world, all the jokes & puns aside. he had to give up on his past experiments and thusly had to give up on “going home.” dude is stuck in a place he doesn’t belong but he’s doing his best to make his little brother & everyone else around him happy, all while protecting frisk. jeez????

*i also love this line bc both sans & papyrus can turn ur soul blue and the blue soul is integrity.

papyrus

papyrus is also a great character and i’m not just saying that bc he has some of the best lines in the game. also his battle is so fun. it’s the first battle in the game where ur heart turns a different color. this skeleton BELIEVES in u. he believes that everybody is capable of being a good person. i love how he comes out of the gate boasting about how he’s going to capture you and become part of the royal guard but he ends up wanting to be ur friend instead. bc despite how many times he calls himself great, deep down he’s insecure and just wants a cool friend who thinks he’s also cool. yet he still has these great messages about boundaries and how it’s important to have many friends and not just cling to one person. tbh i think that’s one of the best messages papyrus gives, besides the fact that anyone can be a good person. i also love how he lives to not only uplift himself but others as well………

undyne

man i fucking ove undyne’s PERSONALITY, like, the moment i fell in love with her was when she was standing atop the cave and was like “first let me tell u the history of our people………ACTUALLY, U KNO WHAT? SCREW THIS! WHY SHOULD I TELL U WHEN UR ABOUT TO DIE” and there’s just all these close up shots of her face and her theme song is blaring and she like, whips off her helmet and u see her face for the first time but it’s this dramatic shot of her standing on top of a fucking mountain its so ANIME AKLGHDKSLHGDSH. both her battle & her hang out are probably my favorites in the entire game. ITS JUST SO FUNNY LIKE. “undyne clenches her fist and shakes her head.” “undyne thinks about her friends and pounds the ground with her fist.” “undyne suplexes a boulder just because she can.” AND THE DYNAMIC OF HAVING TO RUN AWAY FROM HER AND SHE CHASES AFTER U BUT UR JUST WALKING THE ENTIRE TIME AND SHE FUCKING STOPS WHEN U GET A PHONECALL AND PAPYRUS IS LIKE, in the middle of undyne chasing frisk down to kill them, “hey human! let’s hang out with undyne later!” AND THEN RESUMES CHASING U AFTER UR DONE. she gets too hot in hotland and passes out, but if u give her water then she just. goes home. without saying a word. bc even tho she has been consistently trying to kill u, and u could’ve just left her there, u HELPED her. up till that point she was convinced u were faking kindness. but after that, she realizes ur not a bad person and leaves bc she can’t kill someone who’s not a bad person. her soul mode is literally the color of kindness. i can go on and on, how obvious and cute her crush on alphys is, alluding to how she literally just keeps soda at her place even tho she hates it bc she knows alphys likes it and won’t let u drink it bc that’s for her crush omg. how she teaches papyrus how to cook bc she doesn’t want to tell him that he’s not fit for the royal guard. how much she admires asgore and goes as far to say frisk reminds her of him bc they’re both so kind. and god everything she says after alphys confesses to her that she’s been lying about everything undyne is so FULL OF LOVE FOR HER FRIENDS

HOLY FUCK I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT WHAT UNDYNE DOES IN NO MERCY TOO I’M SCREAMING

THERE’S A REASON WHY THE NARRATION IS SO DIFFERENT DURING HER NO MERCY BATTLE AND WHY NARRATOR CHARA ADMIRES UNDYNE AND THINKS SHE’S THE BEST CHARACTER IN UNDERTALE AND THAT’S BECAUSE SHE IS

(i have a theory that chara, during no mercy, thinks that undyne has the best chance of stopping u which is why they get so excited when she arrives and so upset when she loses. i also just think chara and undyne are rlly similar too, in like. so many ways. also ik i’m going off on like 3 different tangents i’m so sorry to anyone who’s reading this i just get rlly excited about undertale.)

mettaton

mettaton is probably close second for my favorite battle. i honestly love his character and how it never rlly hits u how the whole “evil human killing robot” facade was so obvious until u play again. he’s obvious trying to do what he loves, entertaining people, while being saddled with this task to pretend he’s an evil robot trying to kill you. the reveal that he’s actually a ghost inside a robot is even more like a punch in the gut bc u realize that…alphys never made him. she made him a body, sure, but not him. i rlly like watching let’s players react to his battle bc of what he says towards the end, about how humans have so many actors and entertainers, but monsters only have him. and how much life and happiness he brings to the underground, and how he would leave a gaping void if he were to leave. it’s rlly sweet to see let’s players connect with that moment imho. i also love how he returns home to visit his cousin after their phone call.

napstablook

speaking of mettaton’s cousin, napstablook is so sweet. ik this post is getting massively long but it wouldn’t feel complete without them. honestly, the fact that after mettaton left, they wanted to start getting to know their other neighbor (undyne) but was too intimidated to talk so they started making her a mixtape which is just a bunch of dudes screaming their signature wrestling moves is so fucking adorable and hilarious. also the fact that they just straight up avoid the apocalypse by not answering when it knocked on their door.

toriel

toriel……..is my mom. enough said.

ok no i lied not enough said. dude how heart breaking was it learning that all the kids she tried to protect in the past ended up leaving her and getting killed by her fucking ex-husband’s order?? hello???? and that she was so desperate to not lose another child that she was going to destroy the exit to the ruins, which would mean she would never be able to hear another knock knock joke from her only fucking friend (sans), and she would just be stuck in the ruins forever bc she’s goddamn immortal. i’m gonna CRY.

asgore

i like how asgore is written, i don’t like his actions tho. i definitely love all the build up to him, the parallels, how he’s always painted as a nice guy and every character tells u to talk to him, but the second u get to him he destroys ur mercy button and ur left with no choice but to fight him or get killed. new home & onwards is when undertale’s storytelling is at its strongest, is what i personally think. asgore definitely plays a part in that.

flowey & asriel

flowey & asriel are such complicated characters idek if i can summarize what i think about them but i guess all i’ll say is i’m just happy with how undertale treated the both of them.

frisk

me when it’s revealed that they’re their own person and not the player or chara

chara

ok finally on to the character who, if i had to pick one to be my favorite, would claim that spot.

i will admit. i am a big chara stan. :pensive: i personally think they’re the most relatable and interesting character in undertale. i also hate how they’ve been treated by the fandom, like they’re evil. i think it’s undeniable that they are the narrator in all paths in the game. they are woken up by frisk’s determination, after all!

of course, with the true ending, u help their brother gain closure on losing them, proving both chara & asriel that the idea of “kill or be killed” is wrong, and then helping them finish the plan that they both failed- destroying the barrier and freeing the monsters. then flowey encourages chara (and indirectly, the player) to not reset and to let frisk live their life, which chara does, unless the player decides to start a new game.

the one thing i just rlly like about chara tho is that they’re always encouraging u, making all these silly puns, jokes, quips, providing advice and tips on how to spare monsters- like they r rlly invested in helping frisk. it’s clear they’re a good person. they knew almost every monster in the underground. they’re incredibly smart. they’re a big fucking nerd and into anime. they liked gardening to the point of having a gardening knife specifically for cutting plants. they cared about their family so much that they had bff necklaces with their brother, they knitted a sweater for their dad, they loved their mom so much they talk like her. but they’re not a flawless character. they’re coded as a mentally ill abuse victim. they hated humanity, they ran away to a place where people are said to never return. when they messed up, they got so upset that they laughed to cope. they’re flawed, but their brother idolized them so much. and on top of this all they had this pressure on their shoulders that they were “the future of humans and monsters.”

but their plan failed, and it was either kill or be killed by the humans attacking them. and u all kno how that ended. :(

i guess in a way that’s kinda why i think chara and undyne are rlly similar. they’re both incredibly determined, they both wanted to free the people they cared about, they both had a loved one who didn’t want to hurt people, they both shouldered this huge responsibility, and they both would not hesitate to hold ur ass responsible if u ended up doing some awful shit.

Reveling in Richonne

#47: The "Even If" (7x5)

As much as 7x5 became a bit of a blur after the kiss of life lol, I still had just enough vision left to take note of one more Richonne moment in this episode. 😋 And it's the scene that follows, with Michonne and Carl.

(Side note: I know we're supposed to assume a lot of conversations between characters are had off camera, but this 7x5 scene is pretty much the first time we’re seeing Michonne and Carl really talk since Richonne became a thing 🙉 Again, I low key feel robbed that we haven’t gotten more scene with them post-canon lol. Here's to wishfully thinking hoping season 8 will give us some continued development of Carl and Michonne’s relationship. 🙏🏽)

So, Richonne is obviously relationship goals and I love that Michonne is definitely an admirable example of a wife. What her character depiction confirms is that you can be both an independent boss and a loving supportive wife. Like she has her stuff together and she can take care of business while simultaneously respecting her man and his leadership and decisions.

I say all this because this sentiment really comes through in Michonne’s talk with Carl, post-the kiss of life.

Side note: I feel like there's Richonne “pre-kiss of life” and “post-kiss of life” cuz, for me, that kiss took their relationship to a whole nother level lol.

But anyways, let me stop myself before I get off track and start going on about that kiss again, cuz I need to break this current scene down right quick. 😋 So our homie, Carl has two sides to me. Like he's either this good kid with a killer instinct, or he's this wildn kid with a killer instinct. Both are understandable considering the crazy world he’s had to grow up in. But, I must say, what I’ve noticed is that when Carl's in “wildn kid” mode he has a tendency to disapprove of and try his father. 🙉 So in this scene he's kind of in “wildn kid” mode and trying to see if Michonne also disagrees with Rick's "Submit to Negan" approach. I love that the first thing he asks tho is, “Why didn't you go with my dad?”. Like Rick and Michonne are such a package deal that it feels strange to other people for them to be separate.

Also I love that Michonne and Carl are in this house cuz it reminds me of when they were in that house in “Claimed” and they were just becoming family back then and now it’s pretty official. Michonne tells him she has to figure out how they can do this or if they can and that lets you know that while yes, she supports RIck and his decision, she is still trying to find some way to fight. Carl says “We can’t” which reminds me of when Michonne tells Rick those very words in 7x4. I’m telling you; like Step Mom, like Son lol. 😋

Carl feels like they can’t win if they do things Rick’s way. And I know Michonne understands where he’s coming from but she tells him, “Your dad thinks differently.” I appreciate this cuz it lets you know that, as much as everything in her says they have to fight back, she’s obviously really taken to heart what Rick thinks about the situation.

Hearing her say “your dad” stood out to me too cuz, what’s so different about this conversation than pre-canon conversations between Carl and Michonne, is that now Rick is not just Carl’s dad but Michonne’s husband lol. Like this just reminds you that they truly are even more of a family than before.

Carl responds to Michonne saying, “And he’s wrong. You know it”. And low key when he said this, I was like...

Carl tried it just a little bit, cuz even if Rick is wrong, that’s still his father so he has to put some respek on his name lol. But I know this was “wildn” Carl talking. 😋

And as Michonne lets this resonate it could appear she’s between a rock and a hard place. Does she voice her agreement with Carl that they shouldn’t just play along with Negan? Or does she pretend like she’s fully on board with Rick’s way of thinking? And just when you think maybe she doesn’t know what to say...she reminds us that, y’all, this is Michonne Grimes, she always be knowing just what to say lol. 👌🏽👸

So she responds with such a great line. She tells him “Even if I think he is...I don’t know.” It's a very powerful and wise statement. It’s also such a meaningful thing for her to say because, as strong as she feels, she has enough maturity to say she doesn’t know. She’s not blindly agreeing with Rick, nor stubbornly disagreeing. She’s acknowledging both sides and going out to get answers because she’s productive and a real one. 👌🏽👸

She doesn't feel like Rick's way is the way to go, but since she doesn't have the facts to know for sure, she’s choosing to remain open. She loves Rick and trusts his judgement and so she's willing to consider his side, which is why I love that “even if”. She's saying “Look, I'm not going to lie and say I think he's right, but I'm not going to just assume I'm right either.” She's wise enough to know that she doesn't know.

To me, that’s real wisdom. Like wisdom isn’t always having the answers, but rather being open to the fact that maybe you don’t have all the answer, and then going and seeking out the answers, as she’ll later do in 7x7.

This line is also such a perfect answer to give Carl because it accomplishes two things. It allows her to be honest and admit to having an inking that Rick’s way may be the wrong way, which is good cuz it allows her to honestly communicate with Carl and keep him in the loop so that it’s not like he's just some kid. He's still her friend too. And Michonne’s answer also sticks up for Rick and says, “I support your father and we do need to be cautious and consider that maybe we don't know everything”. Something Carl needs to do (and completely does not do, as his “wildn kid” side takes over and gets him singing songs in the Sanctuary 😑🙈). This line also reminds me of "The Distance" when Michonne tells Rick, “You know what you know and you're sure of it, but I'm not", in regards to Aaron and ASZ. Like this relationship is so healthy because R&M can have strong opinions while also acknowledging that they don't always have the answers.

Throughout the series, Michonne has had so many great lines that can be used as real life lessons. And this line to Carl is just such a great example of acknowledging that you’re not all-knowing or always right just cuz you think you are. So Michonne leads Carl by example in this moment and is both friend and mom. That's some healthy balance right there. 👌

🏽And you know Carl at least lets this resonate momentarily. I love that it's really only Michonne who can tame Carl's “wildn kid” side. (If only Michonne knew what Carl's plan for the day was 😑)

And I adore the last part of this scene, where Michonne's mommy mode does in fact take over lol. She heads out and reminds Carl to change his bandage and “be nice to Olivia”. It's such a cute mom/son moment and I was so here for it.

(Side note: I always find it such a funny parallel that Carl has his first low key awkward kiss with Enid in the same episode where Rick and Michonne have the greatest kiss of all time. 😋 )

So this scene is a Richonne scene cuz, even though Rick isn't in it, this is Michonne putting aside any pride to be a supportive wife and a good mom. And I know Rick would be appreciative of how she handled that situation with Carl. Rick's got himself a woman that is A1 wifey and mother material! 👌🏽👸

Michonne is only in like two and a half scenes in 7x5 but I love that these scenes are so memorable. It shows us loud and clear why Michonne is both an excellent wife and an excellent mother. 🏾😊

for this college boyfriend!jihoon request. i love you

okay so i originally really wanted to do campus dj!woozi because i’ve had this same idea for another boy for about a year but i had hit a rut and i really didn’t know where to go with it until i saw the gifs of woozi at the piano and so piano prodigy!woozi popped into my head and i had a hannah montana moment,,, who said you can’t have the best of both worlds,,

so, right, jihoon comes from a very well off family

not a lot of people except his friends know about it because he never talks about it, ya know? like he’s pretty much grown up all his life faking smiles and learning useless manners to please even more well off families and his parents in the process. it’s just not a part of himself that he likes to share. when people know how much he has, he ends up in the presence of a lot of fake friends and jihoon is really not that kind of person

he loves to have his own small group of close friends who understand him and who can be there for him instead of just having the empty feeling of like,, thousands of instagram followers and no one to air his grievances to

which is why he mainly keeps to himself, and for the most part, his parents allow it

but on one condition: he had to compensate with talent

so when jihoon was really young he found interest in the piano and not a day later he was getting professional lessons from some renowned italian guy that jihoon couldn’t even pronounce the name of

at first, jihoon was really excited to learn because hey!! the piano is such a pretty instrument and it’s so fun to play!!

but jihoon still has scars and nicks along his knuckles where that piano teacher whacked him with a ruler whenever jihoon even slightly made a mistake

there was no fun ad libs to add to boring songs by mozart and bach and whatcha call ‘em

it made jihoon start to resent the instrument completely

but his parents had forced him to keep up with it and he ended up becoming a really good player well into his high school years, so his parents had made arrangements to let him pick any school he wanted as reward for being good, but he still had to go in with music as his major

and jihoon found the most ordinary, most public, most average school… and he chose to go there as a music major

his parents were super all over the place about it and honestly tried to get him to reconsider, maybe go to juilliard or some other whoop-dee-doo school in another country that was more than willing to accept him but jihoon was like no. you gave me the choice and i wanna go to this school

so his parents relented, thinking that they could allow jihoon to at least live a semi normal life instead of one in prim and proper uniforms with professors who had caviar for lunch and stuff for a few years… right?

and jihoon loves it

he goes all out buying a completely toned down and lazy wardrobe and he convinces his parents with “i want to fit in, of course”

no, it’s just he really fucking hates blazers and loafers lol

he gets to sleep until noon most days, dress in a hoodie and jeans and look about as undone as humanly possible and not have to worry a hair on his head

and since the school isn’t some stuffy prestigious one, he can play piano with little to no reprimanding

to be honest,,, he pretty much shocks his professors with his talent

they’re like?? what do we even teach him??? He knows? Everything????

and all the other piano majors envy him to death, while the other music majors want to duet with him super bad

because,,, guess what’s the final exam,,,,, a duet with another music major

and everybody wants jihoon because he’s like a guaranteed shoo-in to ace the exam

but every time jihoon gets asked to collab he’s always like “uh. can i think about it”

never gets back to them

it’s not that he doesn’t want to collab with anyone really. it’s just that… he hasn’t found the person to click with him, you know? like he can’t be expected to play his best if his partner can’t keep up with him

and trust him, no one in that class that he’d heard could do it

but he’s still got about three months before the exam, and he can easily snag a desperate soul even if they’ve already paired up if he wanted, so he doesn’t sweat too much about it

the great thing about college tho, is that jihoon can do anything he wants and his parents are not obligated to find out about it at all

so one day, he’s just kinda minding his own business and he gets told about this old building on campus where there used to be a campus radio station, but it’s since gone to the dogs bc the dj is so boring and the show only amasses like,,, two followers

the dj and his mom

but the school board really wants to be more modern and hip so they put out an ad for a new dj. the person would ultimately come in on a certain day on a certain week and they’d advertise that dj for the spot. kinda like a contest

that dj would play their playlist and then students would listen in and vote on the campus radio website for which dj they liked best

and jihoon’s friends are always pestering him about it bc they know that besides classical music, jihoon is really passionate about all other genres like pop, hip hop, old school rnb, jazz, you name it

and jihoon has impeccable music taste

so fellow music major and friend vernon convinces him to turn in a playlist, just for fun, to see if it would work

and so jihoon does it, fully expecting nothing to come of it, but he tunes in anyway

and that’s like. the last time he listens to the radio until the contest is well over

he gets a call from the head office and they’re like “congrats!! you won the contest!! you’re the new campus radio dj!!”

and jihoon is like. what

turns out, his playlist was a hit. everybody who listened loved it

and now he’s the official dj on campus

the job is only once a week, every thursday night, and he gets exactly three hours to play music, answer questions from the website if he gets any, and just all around have fun

and since jihoon is in a pretty steady spot with school at the moment, he has no real reason to say no to it

so,,, begrudgingly, he does it

on his first day, he’s got like everything set out, he’s written a detailed schedule for how he’s gonna spend the three hours, and he’s totally planning to just be silent the whole time but the technical operator in the back is like yo! you gotta introduce yourself at least!

“uh… hey. i’m… dj… woozi. yeah. bye”

and he tries to hide his flushed cheeks as the operator in the back just laughs her ass off at him

but according to the comments on the website, they found that kind of endearing? he doesn’t even really think about the name, it’s just a weird nickname his friends had given him and it was just cute ok

the only people who know he does the dj thing is his friends, cause he really doesn’t want to draw more attention to himself than necessary

like he already gets a lot of attention from being a prodigy so he’d just rather. not.

but being a dj slowly becomes such a passion of his and he feels so sneaky yet so cool doing both the dj thing and piano

and as long as no one knows? he’s good

now, finally, this is where you come in

you play piano too, but it was a very sudden hobby you had come up with so it was pretty funny to say you were a music major when you just started playing piano like, last summer lol

but don’t underestimate your love for it just because of the fact

your parents had been very supportive of you doing something you loved, and studying music, especially the piano, was something you really wanted to do

it just seemed right to you tbh

and of course you knew lee jihoon, the best piano prodigy on this side of south korea

his skills had no parallel, and he always played with a precise hand that you knew came from years of refined and expensive practice

it made you feel a bit small in comparison, since you liked to play by ear and just have fun with your instrument which was, of course, not a thing you could do when studying it in school

you definitely didn’t want to put your family’s money to waste if you weren’t going to do something you would be proud of and take seriously, so his ability always struck you to be a little jealous, but the kind of jealous that pushed you to work even harder

but in that jealousy there was respect. admiration. jihoon was good and eons better than you but you… you had the perseverance to better yourself

so for a long while, you really just sat back and admired him

and in your wildest dreams, you imagined asking jihoon to be your partner for the duet

everything in you tells you you’re reaching for the stars but as the exam draws closer and closer and jihoon continues to turn down partner after partner, you start to wonder if maybe it was a sign?

working up the courage one day, you find jihoon as your class is filling out one day and you kind of fumble over your words but you get out “will you be mine?”

and at first. jihoon. he obviously misinterprets it

he’s just standing there like a shocked bby like o.O first, he has to turn down partners for the duet and now he has to turn down suitors??? can god leave him alone?

he’s about to come up with something like “you seem nice (you’re actually very attractive wow?) and all but i’m not looking for anyone at the moment”

but then you splutter “that came out wrong! i meant, would you be my partner? for the duet? i should have clarified. im just. im really nervous right now. but i understand if you don’t wanna be my partner! honestly, it’d be an honor to be your partner-”

and jihoon doesn’t really know what does it. maybe it’s the cute little sparkle in your eyes or the way you frantically move your hands back and forth as you try to explain yourself

but as you’re babbling on and on, he sees something in you that he hadn’t seen in anyone else that had come to ask to be his partner

everyone had either come to him because they had found out that he was a wealthy prodigy or because they wanted to slack and jihoon’s talent could give them the space to do that

you. you just wanted to make music.

he could tell from the way you played when he’d watch the others in his class. he had seen many people go at the piano all rough and demanding of the keys but you had always had a childishness in your eyes that reminded him of something… or someone

you played to have fun, and he envied that about you

so like a light went off in his head, he realized that you were the one

“sure”

you stop mid sentence to look him in the eye, not totally convinced you heard him right

did lee jihoon just say he wanted to be your partner??? for real?? for real for real?????

“oh, uh… wow. i didn’t think you’d say yes.” “are you retracting your request?” “ARE YOU CRAZY HAHA HELL NO”

when people find out that you, the childish piano player had somehow snagged the best prodigy on campus as your partner, everyone is all green eyed

they really can’t fathom why they weren’t picked tbh. and neither can you

even as you and jihoon train together, you can’t help wondering exactly why he had even given you a chance. like of course you were glad he did but wasn’t there a billion others more qualified than you?

whenever you would try to ask though, jihoon would just reprimand you like “focus on playing, don’t focus on me”

when you two would study together, it was pretty obvious your carefree playing style wouldn’t mesh well with jihoon’s more refined practice, but still, you were determined to make it work whenever he got a little angry at himself for working so hard to make you two fit

he’d sometimes say you two playing together was like forcing two puzzle pieces together that weren’t meant to connect

and yeah, it hurt, but he also wasn’t wrong

still, if it meant forcing your wild mind and jittery hands to play as pristinely as jihoon instructed, you’d do it. because you wanted to be good and he was your ticket for that

and while rare, the moments when you would get jihoon to let loose and play a little carelessly were the most rewarding

he’d shove his jacket sleeves up to his elbows and run a hand through his bleach blond hair (with the dark roots that looked so good on him) and he’d just play to be silly

he’d swear that playing that way was hard for him, but you noticed how naturally his hands flew from key to key like muscle memory, playing a tune a little more unruly than the set score, and the smile he’d so desperately try to hide under his fringe would show no matter what

you really can’t understand why this cute boy doesn’t show his cute side more tbh?? he’s so adorable

but he damn near throws himself off the nearest tall surface every time you say something nice to him

you: wow, you’re really talented

jihoon: *resisting the urge to fall to the ground in a ball and groan* t…thanks

you realize it’s because he gets blushy easily

and you’d think a kid raised by people constantly telling him how good he is at music would like teach him not to care but literally he’s always so embarrassed getting compliments from you

little do you know he gets blushy because compliments from you mean something completely different than compliments from other people

and you always mean what you say to him and that’s why he’s just so asfkjseofiwjio around you ya know

but it also encourages him to do the same back

so whenever you do something new, even if it’s tiny, if it’s new for you, he goes crazy with the praise

like it’s usually not in his nature but he does his best to make you feel super accomplished and it’s the cutest thing

sometimes he even promises to do aegyo if you can do a certain piece or something with him right on the first try. you seldom can, but the few times you have……. they’ve been quite a doozy

he practically threatens you to never tell anyone what he’s done or he’ll find your house and finish you himself

you don’t take him for granted. that’s one small angry man. full of anger and violence, alright

still. he does it cause he trusts you for some odd reason

so as the months go on and you two grow closer to finishing up your parts for the exam, jihoon is getting a lil busy so he can’t meet up with you as often, which makes sense because finals and things are kicking everyone’s asses at the moment

not to mention, he’s busy every thursday, which is pretty funny

usually you like to study on other days so it’s no big deal but you’ve always found it kind of odd. he doesn’t allude to having many hobbies other than music so you can’t possibly fathom what he’s up to every thursday, but you thought if he wanted you to know, he’d tell you

well, one day, your friend who works in the building where the campus radio station is located asks you to bring her some dinner by since she’s got a long evening ahead of her

you’re usually used to doing so before she goes to work, but she had been caught up in some things so she hadn’t gotten the chance to ask you beforehand and now she was starving

so you got her usual and headed on over, and you were told to keep quiet because currently dj woozi was doing his segment

to be quite honest, you were a huge fan of dj woozi

part of the reason you were never pressed over jihoon being busy on thursdays was because you enjoyed sitting back and listening to dj woozi talk about his day and his favorite music

he’d gotten really popular and had become less shy over the weeks that he had become the dj, and now he often spoke with listeners during every show

he’s such a nice and thoughtful guy with a ridiculous amount of sardonic humor and he really reminds you of someone but you can’t really place it

so, needless to say, you’re like super excited to meet him

of course, you’d never been in the actual building like that, especially when your friend was working, so it was super exciting for you

the receptionist lets you know that she’s just through the door before the recording booth, so you go on in and see her at the controls, headphones half-on, half-off as dj!woozi answers questions through the speakers

she turns to you with a smile and mouths for you to drop her food on the table and that’d she talk to you in a minute

and the moment you turn around, you see jihoon

or… woozi?

or both?

all you can do is stare as he talks into the mic, and when his eyes flit from the screen before him to the glass that separates the two of you, he falls completely silent

of course, your friend jumps to go to a song because jihoon is literally just staring wide eyed and open mouthed at you like a fish out of water

and he’s like…… internally screaming 🚨🚨🚨

why are you here!! why are you looking at him!!! no one is supposed to come back here during his segment

he pushes his headphones off and rushes toward your room and you immediately run behind your friend like a kid about to get scolded, but instead of entering the room he goes right past it and…

he’s leaving

“go. go get him. i’ll keep things going” your friend shoos you away, giving you a reassuring look

your legs are taking you before you can even question it

he hasn’t gotten far, and you thank the lord that he has such short legs so that you can catch up to him

he’s got his hood up over his head and his hands deep in his pockets so you almost missed him, had it not been a hoodie you had been so familiar with for the last few months

you grab his arm and he yanks himself back, avoiding your eyes as he tries to run off again

“woo- i mean, jihoon, why are you running away?”

he stops in his tracks but he doesn’t look at you, head down. all you can hear is his mumbling of something you can’t quite make out

and then “woozi is the one thing i have that no one can belittle or take away from me”

he doesn’t look happy talking to you about it, but he also doesn’t look happy indulging in anything he feels particularly emotional about, and it’s pretty obvious how he feels about this

so you grab his arm and he lets you lead him to a nearby bench, far away from the bustle of students leaving class. it’s right next to a calming pond and there are little ducks there, swimming to their heart’s content. you can feel jihoon calming every second he’s there and thinking clearly

once you feel he’s calmed down enough, you ask him about it again

his worries come out like word vomit, and he explains how he felt coming from such a strict and well known family. all he wanted was to live a normal life and learn more about the instrument he loves, but he couldn’t even play for fun anymore because of his family’s insistence on rigid teaching

he talks about how everyone on campus that finds out who his family is treats him like an alien or some million dollar ticket if they could manage to befriend the introverted piano player

his shoulders sag more and more with the words he says until he’s completely deflated and kind of leaning on you unconsciously

“when i’m woozi, i’m just some mysterious nobody on campus who apparently has good taste in music. when i’m woozi, no one expects anything more of me than what i offer on my show every week. when i’m woozi… i’m not lee jihoon.” “bullshit”

jihoon looks at you in surprise, but you don’t let him interject, “lee jihoon is woozi. from every brown colored strand of hair on your head to every laugh line on your mouth. woozi is as jihoon as jihoon is woozi. there’s nothing to be ashamed of being lee jihoon. at the end of the day, if you give woozi and jihoon a piano, they’ll play like they were born to do it. that’s all you. you just have to find people that see that.”

for a while after that, the two of you just sit in silence, watching the ripples on the pond and letting the cool breeze rustle your clothes

only then do you realize how cold it is, and when you visibly shiver, jihoon is quick to wrap a warm arm around your middle like instinct, cheeks dusting pink

(if you asked him about his blush later, he’d tell you it was because of the cold)

“were you always this wise or was i just way too clueless to notice?” “both, jihoon. both, easily.”

you and jihoon decide to keep things secret from then, of course. you keep his secret and in thanks, he teaches you more techniques for your exam

surprisingly, he’s much more softer and patient with you now that he’s gotten to know you better and can see what kind of person you are

when the exam comes up, you can tell he’s really nervous and you’re always like ??? because usually when he performs, he’s very laid back and calm, but for whatever reason, this exam has got him shaking in his boots

since the exam is going to be performed kind of like a showcase, lots of people from other schools and stuff are coming to see, but you know that’s not the case for jihoon’s nervousness

it’s only when the day of comes and he’s nervously fiddling with the knot on his tie backstage that he actually tells you the reason he’s so scared is bc his parents are going to be in the audience, and he knows that they can be really harsh and it feels like they’re intruding on his comfortable space

you take one of his shaking hands in yours and hold it tight, and he realizes then that you are shaking too, but you’re hiding it as best as you can

“jihoon, i’m going to give you this advice because you’re my friend and because your nerves are kind of contagious and i’d rather not catch ‘em,” he looks away when you refer to him as a “friend” even tho you’d been calling him that for a while now, “right now, it’s just going to be us out there. i’m going to be there with you the whole way. so just… whatever you do, do it well. i’ll follow in my own way, as per usual”

your fingers squeeze his and he lets out a breath, feeling a little more comforted by your words “thanks, (y/n). you’ve really become a formidable piano player over the last few months. i couldn’t imagine being on the stage with anyone else”

and instantly you’re ‼️! cause i mean, jihoon rarely gives out compliments

and when he does, they’re usually shrouded in some kind of sarcasm or something, but this is all 100% genuine “i think you’re a great musician” complimenting right here. wow. wtf

the embarrassed smile that envelops on your lips moments before your names are called is enough for jihoon to know his words did their job

you two walk out to the center stage and do a bow beforehand as the crowd applauds you, and before you can walk over to your piano, jihoon grabs your hand and gives it a tight squeeze, one that you return with a whispered wish of good luck

your piece starts out as planned, where jihoon starts playing a soft and melancholy song, and you compliment him in stride on your own piano

everyone in the audience is prepared for another boring performance

and then you abruptly slam your hands on the keys, the crowd letting out a chorus of gasps, but jihoon just winks at you from under his hair and you two start playing like crazy

he plays the uniform version of the score first, and you follow with a wilder rendition, passing back and forth between each other like fire and ice in a dance

weirdly, it works??

you are strong key strokes and combinations of flamboyant transitions while jihoon is striking melodies keeping you on a track only you can hear and feel

he guides you through the song in such a way that could only be described as wind controlling a wildfire

it moves with the controller as the controller commands, but it also spreads and overtakes everything in its path like a wildfire would

by the time you’re finished, you both are beaming at each other even as the audience starts off in a stunned silence, and then melds into uproarious applause

the two of you take hands again and bow once more, the smiles on your faces far too large to contain then and there

it’s only when the both of you get off stage, making your way through the flurry of people complimenting the both of you and giving you congrats that jihoon’s parents find you two

they both look somewhere between surprised and confused as they look at their son

“that was… quite the performance, jihoon” his father says, looking a bit flustered as he says so

you can see the change in jihoon’s features as they look down on him, obviously waiting for their stamp of approval

“we didn’t even know you could play like that. you completely let go up there. there was so much passion we didn’t even know you had, jihoon. it was beautiful”

you watch with adoration as jihoon’s shoulders sink with relief and his parents take him in for a hug, just as your parents come to talk to you and you both end up getting swept up in all the formalities

it’s only a few hours later when it’s near midnight and most everyone has gone home and settled in for the night that you get a text from jihoon, which is already out of the blue because he rarely ever sends you a message first

jihooooon: meet me outside. i have something for you

disgruntled but intrigued nonetheless, you grab your jacket and head outside of the dorms, and sure enough, you see a familiar hooded figure standing in front of the dorms, the streetlights blaring down on his head and making him look orange in the night light

“don’t tell me you came all the way back to campus just to give me something. it couldn’t wait till the weekend was over?” you say, feigning annoyance as you let out a yawn

“my parents told me tonight changed something in them… they’re letting me choose to change my major if i want” is all he answers back with a nonchalant voice, but you can see the pleased smile peeking through in the corner of his lips

“oh my god!! jihoon that’s amazing. i’m so happy for-” “i told them i didn’t want to change though” “oh… why?”

and jihoon blushes…… like he actually literally goes tomato red in the face

“well,,, i mean,,, it’s kind of a big campus and like,,, if i changed majors i’d probably change a lot of classes and we might not,,,,,, see each other as often,, you know? and like,,, you taught me that i can have fun with the piano again. i found my passion again,, thanks to you”

“a-are you saying… you’re staying because i helped you find your passion for piano again? and because…. you’d miss me?”

he just scratches his head, and you realize that both of his hands are neatly tucked behind his back and with the shifting of his hand you hear plastic crinkle so you’re like o.O what’s dat

jihoon too seems to remember he called you out here for something and he holds it toward you: a huge, very fancy looking bouquet of red roses

“i had a feeling you might like something cheesy like this, and since i didn’t get to properly congratulate you on a job well done… i thought i might get these for you instead.”

you take the flowers into your arms and are surprised to find a lil card tucked into the petals of one, and when you grab at it, you’re practically melting

“I’m pretty sure I’m going to be too nervous to say this out loud, so if a card will do, would you like to go out on a date with me?” - ljh

you look up from the card just in time to see jihoon has shuffled an inkling closer, feet scraping the ground sheepishly as he awaits your response, looking nearly everywhere else but at you

suppressing an embarrassing fit of giggles behind your hand, you set the roses on the ground to give you and jihoon some room, “should I… say yes out loud or should I give my answer on a card too?”

inside jihoon is like YEAH I MEAN I’M NOT SCREAMING OR ANYTHING YOU ARE HAHAHAHA WOW AM I SWEATING???!!

outside jihoon however is like,,, “smart ass” with a little smirk

inevitably, date one turns into date two and by date three he’s kissing you over a plate of chicken wings and some leftover mozzarella sticks from the appetizers you two got at the bowling alley and everything is ethereal

while jihoon still has to deal with breaking away from his parents’ hold and learning independence, he finds it’s a lot easier to find confidence with you there

jihoon sees a lot of his younger self in you so naturally when he’s around you,,, you see a whole other jihoon

like he can usually keep it relatively toned down and stuff in crowds or around classmates but when you guys are alone it’s like you’ve unleashed a beast

he’s a giggly mess and you love it

honestly, when is he not giggling at something with you?

you: jihoon??? my joke wasn’t that funny?

jihoon: i know but like *dying of laughter* it was so bad i can’t help it

you’d totally take offense if his laugh wasn’t so friggin’ cute okay

it’s worse at night though because as you two get closer, he starts calling you to help himself fall asleep

so whenever you get on the phone with him at like midnight you guys just gush about the parts of your days that you didn’t get to tell each other about in person and it helps jihoon’s insomniac self tire his mind out

he always spills all his ideas and desires to you late at night and it helps him reason those thoughts out later, and as a plus, you really like listening to lee jihoon babble

it’s a win-win really

but oh god, don’t joke with him this late at night or he’ll turn blue in the face from laughing so hard and it would probably wake up his parents if he didn’t live on the opposite end of the house as them in his big old mansion

speaking of which,,, you’ve been to several times without his parents’ permission :)

but it’s mainly for movie nights, piano practice (which is really just the two of you fooling around and trying to play as many songs by shinee as you can), or helping him put together playlists for the radio show and stuff

but one of these particular nights, you and jihoon were snuggled up on the living room couch, tuckered out from a long day of classes and you both were nodding off to spirited away on the tv when his parents came home from their night out early

let’s just say mr. and mrs. lee finding a girl half asleep across their son’s lap was definitely not the way they thought they’d be introduced to jihoon’s girlfriend

but the awkwardness (thankfully) dissolved with a pot of his mother’s hot and famous brewed tea ten minutes later and soon, his parents were giving you the stamp of approval

your parents were kind of in disbelief when you told them you were dating one of south korea’s most prestigious piano prodigies until you brought said prodigy to the family cookout and they were just kind of like oh. cool. this is a thing that’s happening now i guess

your mom: are you sure his mom isn’t evil or that he’s not already engaged to a famous heiress he was old friends with that moved away to america to study??

you: about 100% sure, yeah

he likes your family’s wackiness though, they bring a little more normality to his life and they remind him of you completely

his friends make more appearances now too that jihoon has gotten himself an s/o, which jihoon can’t decipher if it’s a good thing or not yet

his friend mingyu is absolutely obsessed with using you to destroy jihoon’s stoic personality, so sometimes he’ll crack jokes about how he’s nearly twice jihoon’s size and sometimes he’ll just pull you into his side with a lil laugh just to see what the older boy will say

and usually jihoon doesn’t really care because you’re friendly and his friends are friendly and he’s honestly just happy his favorite people are getting along

but then mingyu just has to,,,, pus h it

mingyu: wow hyung, you have a pretty cute gf. shame you got to her first, i would’ve loved to have gotten the chance to talk to-

jihoon: If You Like Having Kneecaps You Will End That Sentence There

and just to prove to mingyu he means business he’ll even go out of his comfort zone and give you a lil pda ,,, nothing too crazy,, a kiss on the nose,,, maybe

and mingyu is just laughing his ass off with joshua and seokmin in the corner bc seeing jihoon get all red in the face and at the tips of his ears is adorable

even tho pda isn’t really jihoon’s thing, he does get pretty into kissing you when you two are alone

he, without fail, either starts each kiss awkwardly or has you start it for the both of you

but once he’s getting swept up in you, he’s grabbing at your thighs and pulling you impossibly close and honestly??? you didn’t even realize he had it in him

like a switch goes off in his brain and all he can think is you you you, he can’t get enough of you

and with those unnecessarily long canines of his nipping at your lips and neck, he leaves you bitten and red all over when he’s finished with you

he never fails to leave you completely winded after a makeout session, and it’s a source of pleasure and pride for him

like nothing makes him feel better than knowing he’s flustered you with a kiss

it’s a boost of confidence for him honestly

and finally, this mushy baby plays you love songs every time he does his radio show

like no matter the theme or mood of the night, he’ll play you a love song at least once and say “as always, i dedicate this to my moon and stars. i hope you’re listening”

even if you two are mad at each other or haven’t been able to talk much, when you flip on his show, he always remembers to play something just for you, and it’s such a constant in your life

jihoon thinks, and god forbid it happens, that if you two break up one day, he’ll still play you songs

maybe not directly stated, and if you ever asked him about it he’d most likely not tell, but even then he’d still play you a song in the hopes that you were listening

jihoon has never been good with saying what needs to be said with words, but he’s always been good with music, and he’s never been more happy that you speak his language

in short, lee jihoon adores you, but you already knew that ;)
