Is there any space that's safe to enjoy my ships anymore? I feel like this place has become quite hostile recently due to misunderstandings.. I and a couple of my friends are looking to move to other sites but the format of blusky is unfamiliar and intimidating. I'm not used to non blog sites tbh. Most of us like other ships besides the 'problematic' one but ships shouldn't be used to ridicule or attack others. It's making the entire fandom on tumblr look like an unwelcome space for new fans. All because someone took one terrible unhinged person and made it to be about ships. Is there a discord too? I'll come off anon if needed. I'm just so tired to feeling like I have a target on me at all times just for what I like. Some ppl just dont want to SALS on here it seems.

I don't know what's happening/has happened with Tumblr and I'm not on here often enough to speculate, but yeah, the TROP part of this place feels very hostile and weird at the moment. (And I haven't seen much about the stalker specifically here but I know of that stalker/other bad fandom behaviour around the actors & their families and have seen it discussed this week on Twitter, so I will say this: in my view, making behaviour like the stalking weirdness into something about ships and why Those Shippers (whoever the assigned 'Those Shippers' are this week) are Bad trivialises the actual harm done to actual people, and therefore I don't think is ever a good road to go down.)

As for where's better: I don't know, alas. Bluesky is still so new it's hard to see how the culture will shake out, and it's not really doing the same thing as Tumblr anyway. Twitter is toxic, Reddit is weird, DreamWidth is really really quiet. of There are Discords but most of them are either ship-specific or tiny little groups of friends, but I think there is at least one general TROP one that's good that I've seen mentioned/promoted on here before, and at least one Haladriel one I saw last week in the tags here that said it was multishipper-friendly.

But! It's also my view that most people in fandom (here & elsewhere) aren't here to yell and shout and spend all their time fighting ship wars and don't see fandom as something you can Win - it's just that the few who do seem to think like that are always the loudest. It's hard not to let it get to you, but I do not intend to let the people with that attitude ruin my fandom experience. so whatever happens with Bluesky or other platforms, and whatever someone's elf-related grudge on here might be, I'm going to keep talking about the stuff I like and writing about the stuff I like anyway.

on twitter one time i was scrolling through a thread where a person was basically saying that cannibalism only works as a metaphor (as in not real) but if you actually employ blood/gore/consumption you’re a sick freak. so this user (with tens thousands of likes) was actively saying there’s only one way to talk about cannibalism, their way, the pure way, while publicly calling out artists who wrote about cannibalism in less metaphorical way (or included physical parts into metaphor as well).

needless to say i don’t use twitter anymore. and i assume most “cannibalism pomegranate dog motif enjoyers” are the same as that user.

subversive has to become consumable, has to become good, has to become an aesthetic. it has to be pure; this cycle repeats over and over. i remember very well the witchhunts over dA teens drawing guro vent art and porn, entire blocklists dedicated to them, by the same people who went to be "dog motif cannibalism" crowd.

weve already had this with the "sex is nasty, except lesbian sex which is pure and good" crowd, vent art which has to be metaphorical and etheral instead of showing any true toxic emotion or self harm, delusions which are okay unless you are a schizophrenic (then theyre bad), intrusive thoughts which are okay to discuss unless its incest/pedophilia/rape/whatever, and this affects a broader issue than just question of blog aesthetics. taboo is taboo for a reason; it goes against the society-approved topics and tastes, and this bleeds into serious discussions as well outside of sexual or metaphorical context.

the "cannibalism pomegranate dog motif enjoyers" want to keep the subversive aesthetic - see how they go against the grain, they discuss forbidden topics! - and then get out the moment the topic is brought to light in a taboo or unclean way. everyone wants to be subversive, its a part of individualism in capitalist society. both conservatives and libs want to be persecuted - be against the society-imposed rules; that way you are an individual taking a stance against the system persecuting you. with consumerism your tastes and consumption become personality traits; but these tastes dont go below shallow surface when examined because they arent based in philosophy, but superficial mirror of who you are, who you want to present yourself as. with dog bone motifs you get to be 'subversive', but you dont have to question anything deeper; plus you get to be a moral axis to judge upon the people who are "lower" than you. "look, i have intrusive thoughts, but i dont have THOSE DIRTY intrusive thoughts, so i can speak as an authority" "i like cannibalism but not the PROBLEMATIC kind, so as an expert in being problematic i can judge them".

You're very right, to be a pwNPD and to argue that victims and survivors shouldn't have a community based on their shared experience of abuse because you feel personally victimised by the conversation is trying to dictate our recovery to us. It's attempting to invalidate our experience and its hella indicative of real life abusive behavior.

Thank you for sharing personal details of your own experience with NPD. I know it's hard, I know it's not fun for you and I'm sorry your safe spaces have been hijacked by wannabes and fakers pretending that to have this disorder is cool and edgy. You don't feel cool and edgy for having this disorder, because it's a real mental illness that effects your life daily, not a quirk you get to take off when you close the app and go into your life.

Support is out there for people with NPD or people who suspect they have it. It's not as fun or exciting to get help than it is to run a edgy tumblr blog that perpetuates further abuse and stigmatises people with NPD, but our mental health is our responsibility, and anti recovery and anti treatment narcissistic abuse denial blogs are just perpetrating further harm and stigma. The people who beleive in it will never get better, and it's sad, but you didn't fall into believing the narrative that NPD is untreatable. You got help though it was hard and you learned to be better.

I don't condone violence to correct bad behaviour, I don't think you needed to be hit to learn better. The desire to do better and be a good person is in all of us, and I hope you know that the decent human being you are today is thanks to your own hard work, your commitment to consistency in therapy, your strength to understand your disorder, not the time you were hit to learn better.

Kind of a vent feel free to still post but thank you so much for making unbiased positivity posts for problematic factives. I see so many that are like "as long as you hate who you are and are trying to get away from it !! Shout out to you !!" Some of us just exist. Some of us don't hate our identities, some of us are neutral in them. It's not a monster out to get me, it's just who I am. And a lot of us are abused by hosts and other system members to try to force us to change and for some change just isn't what makes us happiest. Being myself is what makes me happy. This blog was actually inspired by a blog that I saw post a lot of plural positivity posts seem to refuse to make a post for problematic factives that didn't have the caveat of "as long as your changing" I don't think problematic factives are incapable of being bad people, but I think. People think they're being such allies to you when they say "I'll give you this attention/positivity/recognition but I need to also make it known that I'm not okay with the things your source did and you shouldnt be like that" and the thing is. anyway 4/13 is tommorow and there’s never a better day to start reading homestuck so i’ll probably pin the free unofficial recovered version for anyone who wants to read! i know homestuck is cringe and everyone says they hate it but tbh ive never known a more enjoyable and memorable character-driven story. if youre looking for something to get into, well, it never hurts to try something new

Touhou: Imperishable Night is my favorite game, while my most favorite character is a tie between Marisa Kirisame, Reimu Hakurei and Alice Margatroid. Fun Fact that famous Bad Apple video is what got me into Touhou in the first place.

Pretty Cure: I got into the entire franchise just last year and I'm currently watching the entire seasons from start to finish (By the time I'm typing this I'm in DokiDoki Precure). The OG and Max Heart have my heart while Cure Black and Cure Blossom are my favorites. I also love the All Star movies cause I'm a big sucker for crossovers.

Sailor Moon: I watched Crystal and the Eternal Movie on Netflix, and I'm currently reading the Manga! I would get into the 90s anime since I seen so many clips on Youtube (its so funny) but considering how many Precure episodes I have to watch, I can't. (Maybe someday!) I love Hotaru Tomoe. Can't say the same thing for Mamoru Chiba (especially during the first arc of the manga/crystal UGH-)

Revolutionary Girl Utena: The intro slaps and I'm also currently in the middle of watching the series. I know all about the dark themes and enjoy the symbolism even if I dont get it at first. (I could ramble about how the show is amazing tbh)

Ib: One of my favorite games of all time, please tell me people remember this game.

Mad Father: Same vein as Ib, again please tell me people remember this game.

Lolita Fashion: I have a few skirts and blouses (still need to get a petticoat lmao). I particularly like Gothic and Classic Lolita Fashion.

So you scrolled my blog a while, looking for something else you villainize me for. Something you can use to make me as a trans woman out to be evil so you can feel good about yourself. (You’ve already forgotten that this is entirely unrelated to your original ask and point). Eventually you find a post about incest, and cnc. Not even explicitly ageplay. You ignore the fact that incest and cnc are incredibly common kinks, and that the post was made by an adult and that i am an adult because now you can bring that post to me and imply I’m a pedophile. If ur not up for your blog to become a discussion hub you can delete this ask but notthatalex' analogy of "but for some reason, people are really scared to roast you, excluding you entirely from that dynamic" I don't think quite makes sense. Within a friend group there Will be healthy boundaries. So therefore there should be some too when we joke to an audience. People roast and joke their friends because they know each other, have given the ok and know they dont hold ill will - if that isn't the case there's a clear problem that should be ideally addressed! Comedians like the ones in Smosh have a platform which I think is ok to demand it to be used responsibly. There's a difference in making a joke where the punchline is "get it ? it's a gay guy, that's funny on its own" and making a joke that happens to include gay guys/their experience for example. Also as much as we want them to, jokes can't exist in a political void. It's already been well documented that memes, jokes, comedy can be absolutely used as a propaganda tool and that some "jokes" are actually meant to represent the creator's political stance. A good example from not too long ago is Sacha Baron Cohen who lately appeared in the news for his Zionist beliefs, while he's built his career around making fun of "arabs" that people have been giving him the benefit of the doubt for for years saying it's "satire".

But yeah, I would say I'm a bit more in favor of restricting comedians than Alex, but I think what you're saying is kind of misreading him. He made it pretty clear that there are good jokes and bad jokes you can make about anything. If you ask me, the biggest thing that makes something funny is surprise. And bigoted jokes are hacky. They're not creative. "Haha this group is bad/weird" is a thing we've all heard before. But I think the friendship example is actually perfect because roasting a friend requires knowledge of said friend beyond hacky stereotypes, so it's going to have to go beyond easy bigoted jokes. Again, I do agree with Alex in the sense that you can joke about anything, but you've got to do it well. And again, bigoted jokes just aren't funny. They're all overplayed. The only reason people find them funny is because they agree with them.

And yeah, it does suck to be the person in the friendgroup who feels like they're being treated with kid gloves. It's all about knowing people's lines. I know seeing the TNTL roasts of Angela made me so uncomfortable at first because I basically am Angela and the particular points they were hitting are things I'm super sensitive about. So if I were her, I would have felt like absolute shit. And then I saw her say how much that made her happy because she felt seen, and how it meant so much to her. And that's made me actually really embrace that view of it and encourage my friends to roast me like that. Because you know what? This is who I am, and I do want you all to see me in my cringe glory. Because being cringe is a good thing. So like, to me, that's what Alex is saying. You've got to know the lines, but imagine how it'd look if they never went after Angela.

Also I don't exactly keep up with Cohen, but I have seen... Whatever the name of that movie was over my brother's shoulder and needless to say, it was a yikes and I don't know how we let anyone who made it say he was at all progressive.
